Overall though, they seem pretty decent and want your child to succeed, even offering free after school tutoring. Some were very quick to respond to emails, some you would wait 1-2 days before hearing anything back. As far as homework load, that seemed fairly balanced. My child didn't have much trouble getting it done. My only suggestion would to be to switch up the semester Science projects. It was the exact same packet and project choices, for five years. They never did anything different and by grade 8, my child was mind numbingly bored with the same options. Next: bullying and drugs. Bullying is absolutely not tolerated here. Shout out to the Vice Principal, Mrs. Chipman, whom nips it in the bud with a quickness. They also have zero tolerance when it comes to drugs and are swift to react to any incidents. So high kudos for that. School events; a few are themed and very cute, others thrown together with very little thought (especially this last year). There would be only a couple days notice to the day before the event. It was strange. Graduation for 8th grades was not well executed either; no enforcement on the 4 tickets limit given so everyone that wanted to, attended (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, you name it). They ran out of seating quickly due to this. It was unfair to those that followed the guidelines and they never addressed it. For a school that is so stringent with kids regarding rules, that was a bit disappointing to see. Next up, the front office... if you're lucky enough to catch them on a good day, they can be very helpful but again, that is a mixed experience. Catch them on (regular) bad days and they are dismissive, short, and rude. As someone who has to make calls throughout the day at my job -and- taking in consideration that I'm sure they deal with a few unpleasant parents, I'm always polite, not once ever calling with an attitude. It doesn't seem to matter. And God help you if you get ahold of Alisha; the rudest, most foul tempered of the lot. How she still works there is absolutely beyond me. If I spoke to clients the way she does to parents, I'd be fired in an instant. It got to the point that if I heard her voice answer, I would just hang up and try again later. Last but not least, the emails. I get that they need to keep people informed but the frequency that they send them is just obscene. I'm not joking. It's -at least- three times a week and the timing is so random. Sometimes you'll get them at 2pm and sometimes you'll get them at 5pm, 7pm, and up to 9pm. Weekends aren't safe either. They really need to learn to reel that in with designated frequency, days, and times. It gets overwhelming quick and it's easy to miss updates. Overall, it's an okay school but needs some restructuring, especially the front office staff.

My daughter is in second grade and has a wonderful caring teacher who challenges her and makes learning fun! This school pays attention to detail yet keeping it a very personally experience. My child is somewhat awkward like most preteens and has been hurt by the very unkind words of peers. Always the teacher involves the vice principle who speaks to both students and follows up with me afterward. Administration leaves classroom issues to the teachers at Coral and if they do address a situation they do not attempt to notify the student victim or their parent to "protect the other family's privacy." The teachers that we had at both schools were GREAT (6th grade teachers at Coral and 7th grade teachers at Pinecrest.) No complaints there. Administration is more communicative and helpful at Pinecrest.

It's quite a change in his academic progress and his enthusiasm for school. He says Yayy every morning when I tell him what day it is, and that's school day. He started reading when he was four and a half. I don't have to ask him twice when it's reading time at home. Somehow Challenger got him to feel like he is having fun when he reads or works on the worksheets. He is able to explain to me errors he makes on his worksheets at school, and able to show me corrections. I am happy with his academic growth at this school. I like that the school entrance is locked at all time. You can't get to the front desk before you get approved to pass through the locked entrance There were couple times I had issues with admin. At first, I didn't know the school required uniform shirt and pants. I only ordered my son uniform shirts and went to buy him pants from a clothing store. One day he came home in someone else's pants with no note to explain why his pants were changed. When I called, that was when I was informed about the mandatory uniform. I was upset at how they made him change into different pants at school, and how they didn't have the courtesy to call me to work out the uniform issue. Another time was when I received a past due notice, and a warning of my son's school termination if the past due was not taken care of by so and so date. I was not made aware of the due. When I called the school to take care of the amount, I was told that it was from the one day that we picked him up late. Ms Brenda always calls me back in timely manner. For how happy my son is at this school, I can look past all the admin issues I have had.

My child received death threats from other students and has attempted to push off other students, and yet gets punishment. My child doesn't feel they are able to speak up, and feels discriminated. "Mommy, why am I the only one getting in trouble?". A child should not feel this way at a place of learning and what is deemed as "safe". I am not the only parent who feels this way as I have asked others about their impression of Tony Alamo. My child did not dislike attending school until we ended up with this one UNFORTUNATELY.
