The school is an incredible private institution where your child won't get lost in a big crowd. You can feel confident that your child is safe and receiving an outstanding education. I can't imagine a better experience for my daughter. I was referred to this campus from numerous friends and I was not disappointed. They helped my daughter adjust to school and were always patient and loving with her. My daughter attended a Merryhill Preschool for 3 years she did intermediates, pre-k and then kindergarten. The school only went to kinder so I had to tour schools to find the one that worked with her personality. I toured at least 10 elementary schools, some religious, some other Merryhill Schools and some public schools. Public school classes are so large and I knew it wasn't for us. Curriculum is huge to me and Merryhill is pretty unbeatable in the area. I toured a Merryhill closer to me but didn't get "that feeling". When I toured Durango fireworks went off! I know that sounds strange but the feels are unbelievable in this school! I was a stranger but every staff member welcomed my family and especially my daughter. Principals are a huge part of a school community and I've been blessed with the best at Merryhill! This location is ran by Kim Roden and she will move mountains for our kids. Her personality is 1 in a million and the teachers and staff are the same . We are half way thru this school year and I know I made the right choice. I cannot say enough good things about Merryhill. We have tried other private schools, as well as a brief stint in public (eye opening to say the least). Merryhill is the perfect balance of higher learning and creative expression. It feels like family and I have never seen a group of children so happy to be at school in my life. You can't help but smile when you are there. So much of this can be attributed to the leadership that is shown by the principal Ms. Roden. What a rare gem they have in her. Ms. Roden was the first person we met when we stepped foot into the school and I immediately knew she was who I wanted to look after my children's education. She is warm, funny, engaging, and pretty much everything I ever wanted in an elementary principal. She inspires young minds in such an enviable way. I find myself becoming playful just in her presence - she's just that infectious at times. The staff is nurturing and the teachers have been helping my children flourish in leaps and bounds. I could not be happier. This education is worth every penny. The only thing l would change about merryhill would be that i wish it went straight through high school. Fifth grade graduation is going to be a bittersweet day. read more

This is a great school. A school should be more than a place that infuses academic informations into kids' brain. Our kids actually live their big portion of life at school and it is so important to us that they are well taken care of at any given time when they are there and I can trust the principle and faculty on this. It has lots of activities and events for kids so they can have varied experiences about society in big picture. They grow very smart and well rounded with good manners. I love that. It's been nearly a year since we pulled my step-daughter, Kayla, and 2 years since pulling my son and adopted daughter, Adalyn. I am convinced that there is nothing this school can offer any child, advanced, normal or disadvantaged, that is worth a single dollar more than public school. Compared to public school, Merryhill is not as safe. Unlike public school, parents (and friends/boyfriends etc) are able to just walk right through the door and into classrooms. The front door is coded but if you walk in behind another parent or you happen to acquire the code, no one is batting an eye at you. This goes for aftercare too. At our public school you need your ID every time you enter the school. You are also required to wait in the office while your child is retrieved for you. In addition, if you are required in the actual classroom they will give you a name tag and you'll be logged in and out. If you volunteer, unlike Merryhill, you will need a background check. I see now why these steps are important. Because the school is so small, with just one class per grade except kinder, the teachers become uncomfortably close with their students. To be clear, I do not think it is appropriate for teachers to hug students when they leave and say "I love you" or "I'll miss you". Although I recognize that the time spent with students throughout the week is quite high, I still believe that we need to enforce expectations. Once these students move on to the next school, They can't just go on showing affection to each and every one of their future teachers. And that's what will happen, because they've learned that it's normal. It was brought up to Mrs. Roden (the principal) and nothing was done about it. She brushed it off to us wanting to leave the school anyways. This case was female student to female teacher but if it had been female student to male teacher than there would have been an even bigger issue. If you're considering sending your child here you probably have the funds to do so, so this complaint is minor but useful: Every other week or so there is an event costs students and parents.. . And also school supplies are not included in the cost, you are expected to purchase these yourself. I figured this was normal until we started at public school, where they do not require supplies sent with your students and most events are free. This might seem petty but it just goes to the quality of what you're paying for. Finally, and most importantly, EDUCATATION. My step daughter is brilliant. I'm not just saying this, she is exceptional. We knew she was ahead, but it wasn't until she began at public that we were thrown through a loop. Within the first few months they pushed her ahead of the line for GATE testing and not too long after that she was tested for HIGHLY GIFTED, where she passed with flying colors. This program will follow her through high school where she will be offered college scholarships. Our school and her teacher have made education a top priority and we have seen huge growth in her as a result. At Merryhill she was praised for high scores and pushed along with the other students. At public, she spends a lot of time with students at her level and is pulled from class to participate in things like dissecting a sheep's brain! My daughter, Adalyn, wasn't so lucky. I have experienced both ends of the spectrum at Merryhill and how they handle each situation. Adalyn came into kinder and barely scooted by. I felt as though she was pushed along even though she clearly wasn't retaining simple information like learning how to spell her name. As a result she struggled in first grade and their suggestion was to hold her back. I took these suggestions seriously, as I relied on their input and "expertise" - so we held her back. Mrs. Roden suggested that we have her tested for ADHD. We did that, at our own cost. The results were able to get us a "modified work load". Adalyn was expected to complete only certain portions of work and was allotted more test time.. Nothing seemed to help. In fact, it made her reliant on these accommodations. During her second first-grade year we pulled her and my son, and placed them in public school. We allowed my step daughter to remain for the rest of the year per her mother's request. Almost instantly public was able to help my Adalyn. They set her up for immediate testing, her accommodations aren't crutches and we have discovered new ways to help her retain information. We even spent time with the school counselor for Neurological Testing. Paying top dollar for 3 educations simultaneously wasn't enough to get REAL attention and education for neither my advanced child or my struggling child from Merryhill Educators. In conclusion, Merryhill is a glorified day care. read more

This school has been amazing for us. We have a bright child and we wanted more for him than what the school district could offer. If you value small class sizes and good fellow families--but without the intense, competitive, unnecessary pressure found at other private schools, then this school is for you. From the long-standing principal (who is so fun and engaging with the students) to the wonderful classroom teacher we had this year, we are so happy that this school is here in Las Vegas. Every staff member will know your child on a first-name basis and work hard to treat parents and students respectfully. This is a special place! read more

Our son have been attending Merryhill since last year. Teachers are very caring and strict at the same time. Since they only have 15 kids in 1st grade class, teachers are able to spend some one on one time with a child. We enjoy Merryhill and appreciate the PTO moms. They do a great job with mini events and fundraisers. Also, there are many fun/educational after school activities. Very well rounded school. read more

Having experienced 2 other private schools in Las Vegas, this school, and particularly this campus, is refreshingly wonderful. Mrs. Roden, the principal, truly cares about each student and runs the school very well. The curriculum is appropriately challenging, yet individualized to the child. The student body is small, and is also one of the most diverse I've seen in private education in Vegas -- and that includes racial, socio-economic, and learning-style diversity. Of course, the school only goes through 5th grade, but Southern Hill Prep, their sister school, has a middle school. This incredibly picky parent is incredibly happy with this school. read more

My son has been with Merryhill Durango Elementary School for 6 years now and prior to that he was at Merryhill Durango Preschool from 6 weeks old on, and I can not say enough GREAT things for both of these wonderful Schools. The Teachers at the Elementary School are just absolutely amazing. Not only is my son academically ahead of other children his age, he also surpasses many children who are older than him. My friends always comment on how intelligent he is and I truly believe that a lot of it has to do with this school and the teaching and administrative staff there. We have always had such great teachers and many of which have been there for over 6 years. There are even teachers that have been with the school since its opening. That alone can give you an idea of how great this school is. The Principle not only communicates with me on a regular basis but she is truly proactive in the developement and enrichment of the students. She is by far one of the most proactive principles I have ever had the pleasure to deal with and the staff seems to love her. She is always open to speak with any parent, teacher or student that wants or needs to talk. The way that she communicates with the teachers, students and parents is such a nice thing to see! She and the entire administrative staff are such a great asset to this school. In the 6 years we have been with this school (K-5) my only complaint would be that they do not continue through to 8th grade. read more

My son has attended Merryhill elementary since kindergarten. He's in 3rd grade now. I couldn't be happier with the school. Each year gets better & better. The class sizes are small so he gets the attention and guidance he needs. He's academically challenged. The principal and teachers address any concern or questions immediately. The principal is involved in every aspect of the school. He loves going to school which means a lot me and says a lot about the school. I highly recommend this school!!!! read more
