We've done both Coral Academy (Cadence) and Pinecrest (St. Rose) and Pinecrest is better. First, Pinecrest has a very effective system to deal with bullying. My child is somewhat awkward like most preteens and has been hurt by the very unkind words of peers. Always the teacher involves the vice principle who speaks to both students and follows up with me afterward. Administration leaves classroom issues to the teachers at Coral and if they do address a situation they do not attempt to notify the student victim or their parent to "protect the other family's privacy." The teachers that we had at both schools were GREAT (6th grade teachers at Coral and 7th grade teachers at Pinecrest.) No complaints there. Administration is more communicative and helpful at Pinecrest. read more

The front office lady is rude. She does nothing and treats me and the students there like crap. I was asking for a permission slip for my daughter last year and she whispered under her breath "how are these people loosing it already" and I took that very mean. shes always on her phone and I didn't appreciate her. she should be fired the school is amazing except some teachers. theirs so many expectations to live up to and so much work these kids have to do its mind boggling to believe how my children are able to do this. My daughter currently attends this campus and we cannot be more pleased. She was in a public CCSD school for kindergarten as well as first grade and I can say that her kindergarten experience was terrible and teacher would not communicate with us and eventually sent home a letter saying my daughter needed special ed. We contacted the faculty and never got a response, this was at Reis Elementary, we then moved our daughter to Wright Elementary the next year where she had a great teacher and we witnessed great progression. Fast forward to her second grade year where she started here at Pinecrest and ended up in Mrs. Parkers class. Not only can we clearly point out that we were correct in not signing a paper to send her to special ed when she was in kindergarten we have seen that her abilities exceed what we could even expect form a 2nd grade student. At Pinecrest she has received such awesome instruction and assistance that she is reading at nearly a 5th grade level and is doing math many levels above her grade level, she also recently tested in the 86% in the nation!! All of the staff we have interacted with have been pleasant and very helpful and that is a very nice change from the CCSD public schools we have dealt with. One thing I will mention is that if you are a parent that does not like to be involved with your children's education and what is going on at the school this is not the school for you. There are requirements put on the parents when it comes to donating some time to help around the campus or on projects at home but lets be honest, without the parents taking time to care and actually work with their children outside of the school building the student will indeed suffer. The school definitely does their part in facilitating a great learning environment and experience for my daughter. My son will also be attending this campus next year for his kindergarten and we could not be happier. read more

I love the "specials" classes they have and start kids with spanish starting in kindergarten. It was the main reason why I tried to get my daughter into this school. It is the closest school to us and love that it is stem. My biggest frustration is the lack of communication. I will get emails and text messages about their free lunch program but barely any notice when its a half day. One time it was a half day and they call my dad to pick her up. I was furious why would they call someone third in line? Totally bypassing both parents. I asked why there wasn't any notice about it being a half day and the lady said "its on the school website." I must be a terrible parent because I don't check the school calendar on their website everyday..... My daughter walks to school. I waited at the corner across the street at 3pm sharp. Waiting waiting and waiting....3:15 i got worried and walked to the school only to be told that walkers will be released 15 minutes after school due to clear car traffic. I don't mind but no notice to parents! When my daughter was in public school, there was tons of notice of half days and special circumstances weeks in advance by both administration and teachers. I wish they would adopt the same practice here. It really is a great school and teachers have been great. Today ends my daughter's first year at Pinecrest St. Rose and she looked at me with her big sad eyes and said "Is it really over?". She has learned so much and grown through this learning experience. Usually she can't wait until school is out and this year she can't figure out why it went so fast and she enjoyed it so much! Every teacher I have encountered, the PTO, the front office staff, the after school program and all the parents have been nothing short of amazing! The instruction is the best she has ever had and the differentiated learning platform seems to have all the kids at or above their grade levels in almost every subject. Before my daughter came to Pinecrest St Rose, she struggled to learn simple things, had below average grades and hated to go to school. However, at Pinecrest St Rose, their teachers are allowed to teach to help their students learn in a way that works for them. They have additional learning programs they use as supplements to enhance the students learning, as well as a reading program. My daughter has come full circle, understands what she is learning, is now a straight A student and loves to go to school! My daughter started Pinecrest as a second grader and had had several CCSD schools under her belt prior to arriving. Being in Special Education I can honestly say our experience with CCSD was horrific. Since coming to Pinecrest St Rose, my once delayed 2nd grader is now reading above grade level and is blossoming at school! She loves coming here and after years of crying and wondering why she was a terrible student she is gaining confidence. I am so incredibly happy we found out about Pinecrest. Pinecrest St. Rose, a charter school in Las Vegas committed to preparing students for college and future career through their academic programs. My son, prior to his placement for 5th grade, was tested on English and Math to determine his level of development. He was then placed in the appropriate advanced level class to assist his growth and development. The teachers have been very supportive, encouraging and involved with his learning. Pinecrest also offers an array of elective classes that assist the child in their overall development. My son has benefited from computer and leadership classes. Great experience. We signed up as parents volunteer for one week and just realized how fantastic is Pinecrest Academy St. Rose Charter School with very helpful, supportive and friendly staffs and faculty members. With a smiles on their faces. Academically speaking, Pinecrest Academy Charter School delivers an advance knowledge and having advance classes for students was a plus. Preparing them for better and brighter future. They have fun and educational field trips to boost students to keep their good grades. Also some activities such as school dances, fun run and more... making their students build team orientation and family atmosphere. We are so glad we made the right choice for our children education. I spoke with A Children's Attorney, and of course as I thought things were not handled on a professional level. A child should NEVER be put in a Conference room alone for any amount of time. The Special Ed Teacher overreached, she teaches 6-8th Grade and she thinks very high of herself but she's not following Protocol or Laws, they just don't know what or how to do things when a situation happens because a child should never be put in a room alone. I know Ill never forget the HORRIBLE experience because of her! My son was bullied by her and the Dean they called him a liar and the Special Ed. Teacher told him he couldn't use the word Defend in his Statement, Read that again, she was manipulating him. He told them to call his Witnesses the other kids involved never got called in or in trouble, Standards are higher at this school for kids than Teachers. My son wanted to call me he was told no, his water food and backpack was taken from him. The other child involved who admitted to attacking my son while behaving like a Dog and biting my sons ankle was sitting in the office when I Came in and picked my son up! The Special Ed Teacher tried playing CSI and SVU all on her own and failed, she said very inappropriate things to my son. His friends in class told him the Teacher was Emotionally unstable and mad and yelling at them and than crying. They also got away with watching inappropriate stuff on the internet my sons phone was taken away but her entire class was watching videos and playing games, she ignored her class to go after my son. Kids are scared as it is when they are called in but they should NEVER be treated bad or called a liar or told thats not what happened when the video wasn't even pulled yet. Administration needs to do a better job. We had pictures and Videos of the boy threatening my son and a picture of the bite mark the dean and the special ed teacher told my son it wasn't a bite mark, again manipulating him. I took the picture it was definitely a bite mark I wish they would have called me in and said that to me but they only have the guts to pick on kids not adults. As a matter of fact my son said the Special Ed Teacher ran when she heard I was there to pick him up! She didn't have the guts to come after me, just a child she could bully and manipulate! When the video was seen they saw the boy behaving like an animal and going after my son. The Tactics they use when kids are called in are very inappropriate let's call it Gas Lighting. The Special Ed Teacher acts like she is nice and cares but don't trust her, it's all an act and if she was that good at her job she would know how to write an IEP and not have to pay someone to help her write one. I tried to warn Parents on The Facebook page but of course they deleted it. if they have. nothing to hide and they do things right? why delete it? read more

My son has always attended public school . As the news of a new charter school opening up in the area . We applied and got accepted into the middle school program . Hearing wonderful stories about charter schools in different states we were delighted.. That's until the school actually opened .. Very unorganized and poorly staffed ... It was a new school , we were still giving the school a chance to get the kinks out . It has been a nightmare. Biggest mistake ever, they treat middle schoolers the same as their pre-schoolers ..they are to walk the halls with there arms crossed at all times ... Recess in 7th grade ? But not only that . They are let out into an empty grass field .. My son has never been a trouble maker , but unfortunately the Vice Principal Ms Crawford, wanted him to leave . Making false statements about my son .I had to finally ask her if she did not like him - should I pull him out? Final draw , at "recess' another student , dared my son to kick him ,it was a mutual game .Un appropriate yes , but the other child did not get in trouble .. But my child did .Ms Crawford claimed cameras caught him kicking another child ..When we asked her for the video .. " it was erased " .We had enough of Ms Crawford . She kept telling my son to just leave .. So we did . Horrible example of an educator.. read more

I want to speak to the rudeness of the staff. Last Friday someone on the staff blocked local traffic in order to allow their parents to exit their parking lot. It caused a big traffic jam. My letter to the Board: I was delighted to receive an e-mail from your St. Rose campus regarding the acceptance of my son but after his placement test had been completed and reviewed we were politely told, in layman's terms, my son is not a good fit. The meeting started out with, "This is a college preparatory school." My son placed at a fourth grade level when he is in fifth grade. I tried to say I was unaware that registering him for another grade was possible but I was interrupted and told that he should have been held back and they are confused why he was not. It was then explained to me that often a school will have two children in need of tutoring yet only able to give help to one.  Help goes to the child more willing to show physical effort and not the other.  In my son's case, he is the other and just not worth the time.  There were also concerns that "if he can't do the work on paper then how can we trust him to do it on a Chromebook?" I was told that maybe if it was just one subject and not all there would be hope. At this point my son started to cry. We were then told to go to the bookstore and buy a non-fiction book series, to which the principal stopped and asked if he knew the difference between fiction and non-fiction, and read it. Then find another series and read it. Then find another more difficult one and read it. I informed them that he can read and CCSD has been more focused on fluency then comprehension. I also informed them that I have asked CCSD numerous times only to be met with "He is not behind enough." or "We don't do that anymore." At this point, they looked at me and said, "Well then, it's on you at that point."   We approached the subject of math and I told them he does not understand Common Core math but functions very well with the old ways. My son and I were then informed that that is the way mathematics is taught now and if he cant understand Common Core then he is just not a good fit. Then we were asked if he has friends his own age. I do not know how this is related but it came up. I told them that he gets along better with children a couple grades above him or below him. He has difficulty with children his age but has a few friends that are. We were told that is not normal and he needs to know the difference between right and wrong. I told them he knows the difference from right and wrong. I told them it was either this or home school. They closed his file and told us that may be the best course of action. My son and I were told this repeatedly during the meeting. Needless to say, we left in tears and I am left with a broken-hearted young man who was told to his face that he is stupid and not worth a teacher's time. I am left with an eleven year old boy and I have to convince him that he is NOT what the principal and vice principal told him he was. I am left with an intelligent creature who is too humiliated to return to his previous school that I was required to disenroll him from before he could do his placement testing. I am stuck in a place of not knowing how to instill worth of any kind into my child as today he was told he has none.  I have to deal the fact that I was lied to and told that I am a failure as a mother to see to it that my son gets the education he needs. If this is how your organization treats families, why education? If this is the treatment for someone who has fallen through the crack why ask for IEPs and 504s ? I would hate to see what would happen to someone with those educational plans. Today, crushed my son. He was willing to do the proposed 2-3 hours of homework a night if it meant that he could get better grades and go to your school. I was happy and willing to sit and help him learn what he needed if it meant he would feel motivated and his love of learning resurfaced. Unfortunately, this school does not exist.  Maybe home school would be the best course of action? I would suggest a refesher course in communication for the principal and vice principal of your St. Rose campus and remind them that such condescension is unprofessional and has no place in an institution of learning.  Neither does insulting a parent and diminishing a child's value. read more

My son currently attends kinder at Pinecrest academy St. The school has been growing and improving with activities and communication with the parents. Parents have access to the child progress, weekly newsletters are sent out, curriculum is sent out weekly. Most of the sign ups are done online making it easy to see when and where things are happening. Students get hands on help, I have seen my son grow rapidly in his reading. They have online games they can test on to make it interactive. It keeps my son interested and competitive. read more

The Pinecrest Charter schools, collectively, increased their sports prices this year (from a $50.00 registration fee/$105.00 sport fee/$15.00 sport jersey fee to a $50.00 registration fee/$185.00 sport fee/$20.00 sport jersey fee - same sport fee for every sport, every grade level) despite fact that NCSAA/NYS "cut the pricing by between 30-40% for schools over the previous year. ...[giving] schools a significant price decrease from the previous year..." - NCSAA representative. The Team registration fee for the participating charter schools dropped from $900.00 to $600.00 this year yet Pinecrest individual student-athlete prices sky-rocketed. This being true ONLY for Pinecrest Charter schools as all other participating charter schools continue to offer SIGNIFiCANTLY lower prices for their student-athletes. This issue was presented to the Board and no action (no explanation, no change to pricing) has been offered to-date, making their sports program a hardship for many athletes (to include returning athletes) to participate any longer. It is disheartening that the Board and Pinecrest Charter, as a whole, fail to make sports affordable/accessible and seemingly FAIL TO VALUE athletics as a conjunct to individual learning and development. read more

The best decision I made for my kids with there schooling was changing there school. Pinecrest Academy of Nevada St. Rose Campus is by far better for my kids then ccsd. my kids have come along way this year thanks to the teachers at Pinecrest.
