I nearly wept from joy as I walked down each aisle. This is my new favorite Aldi. If Whole Foods and The Dollar Tree had a baby, this would be their creation. You have quality, inexpensive foods. There are lots of gourmet items. You could create a wonderful picnic or amazing dinner party with Aldi items. The produce is varied and fresh. On rare occasions I have been disappointed with a bag of grapes or something spoiling too soon. Aldi refunds your money and replaces the item if you are not satisfied with it. There are gourmet cookies, fancy pastas, and inexpensive wines. The row of non-food items is fun to explore. There are household items, cooking gadgets and baby items. You can find amazing cheeses that would cost twice as much or more at Whole Foods. The employees are nice, and available. We will be back!

Grand opening! 8:25 ribbon cutting. First 200 ppl get golden coupons. Most local ppl have received $5 already. Now tons of Donuts and coffee;) Price: Cheap.

Less than 2 bucks for grated cheese, forget waiting for sales

So am testing out different Aldis. The Duke street is bigger than Kenmore, it seems smaller than Sterling. Parking during day was fairly easy. Typical layout of Aldis, clean. Seems like less staff is on the floor than Sterling sort of hard to get help in store. Okay but the prices and offerings rock. I think the wine section was smaller here. Am definitely drunk on Aldi Kool aid. I adore avocados, have been hunting down low price avocados, Aldis beats Trader Joe's, (both owned by German Albrecht family), BUT both stores are WAAAY better than Giant $2.99 for one avocado, aw hell no no self respecting Dominican will pay THAT.. so am going to post pics so you can see for yourself. Just go and experience Aldi yourself.

I came in 5 minutes before closing and she refused to check me out. I begged her for a bottle of water and she refused to even accommodate this. Aldis a great franchise that offers great pay to their employees but they should really invest in employees more respectable than her. I was so shocked by her behavior- I shared it with other people who live in the condominium behind the store and they agreed.

$1.99 a bag for apples - Amazing deal!

Aldi is great. Employees are nice. Started going to another location because sometimes there were beggars outside.

Veggie and fruit section sucks. Don't particularly care for the meat section either. I recommend using your veggies immediately.

Love Aldi! It can be busy at times, but what store doesn't have its moments? I love the weekly deals and the items they put out.

The frozen section has "sustainably wild caught" fish from the northern Pacific for very cheap prices (labels says caught in Alaska).

And, in this economy, there is no reason to shop at any other grocery store in the DMV. Aldi does not price gouge unlike other chain grocers. Their stores are clean, well organized, well stocked, the selection is amazing, there are many high quality items including organic & grass fed, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Shout out to one of the stockers for his assistance today, and the sweet cashier, Lucretia. She made checkout a breeze and was really nice and had a big smile on her face. I believe that many of the competitors are 75% hype and "marketing"; you can literally get many of the same things at Aldi for a fraction of the cost of what you'd pay at the fancy chains, e.g., amazing cheeses, quality breads, meats, produce, etc. Over the years I've shopped at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Mom's, Natural Grocers (west coast), Sprouts, Wegman's, Harris Teeter, etc., and these stores can't compare to Aldi. When I read the labels for many things I'd normally buy elsewhere, there isn't a huge difference. The fact that I can get most of what I need at Aldi makes it worth the trip and I don't mind going to another store to fill any voids. There is ample parking in their lot, and be sure to bring a quarter for the shopping cart (you get it back when you return it). Also, bring your own bags.

FSG is sandwiched between One Good Tern Wild Bird store and Simply Fish restaurant in an odd layout of a strip mall off Quaker and Braddock in Alexandria. They have a vast selection of wines, ports, cheeses, caviar, and breads. What keeps us going back, and a lot of our friends talk about this, too, is that there is not a hint of pretention there. The owners are so very helpful, patient and kind. The prices are also comparable to bigger stores and chains. And, of course, they do generous case discounts. We normally buy cases of the Le Petit Duc La Porte (glad I'm typing it because I can't pronounce it) and we get a better price at Fern Street Gourmet than what they're selling it for at Whole Foods. Off-street parking is almost always available here. I know they do tastings, too, but have never been to one. If you're looking for a nice pairing for a special dinner or holiday meal but don't want to feel looked down upon like in some other wine joints, check out Fern Street. Clare, from Tallula wine bar, works here part-time, too, and really knows her stuff.
