Aldi consistently delivers the most affordable and fresh produce. Their fresh fruit, veggies, and selection of meats can't be beat at the price. I switched to Aldi's from Woodman's a couple of years ago due to changes in economic circumstances. It was hard getting used to the different name brands [mostly European knock-offs of USA] but I found, contrary to expectation based on appearances, that about 85% of the choices were just great TYVM. I really like the recent changes upgrading and expanding the interior [I shop at Fitchburg site near Target] and adding new products. Since COVID I have been ordering my grocs delivery. I like it pretty well but it really irks me when my go-to items [like cottage cheese or my mandarin oranges] aren't available. It has been about 2 mos since I've gotten cottage cheese @ Aldi's. As a "vulnerable shopper" who at the moment is unable to drive I really need to get all my products in one place. Aldi's falls way too short on that. E.g. I hate their options for pet foods [so does my kitty]. So sometimes I have to shop at another store, which means I have to pick up at least $35 of products from the other store to get free delivery when all I want of what they offer is $15-$20 worth. And the fill-in products to make up that $35 are ALWAYS substantially more expensive than Aldi's. After shopping almost exclusively at Aldi's for the past 2-3 years I must say after reading the very negative reviews included here...did they go to the same store I do? Cuz I'm so happy with it I have made it my #1 go-to store. I save between $20-$50 a week with Aldi's prices. And that's over Woodman's (Madison) prices [the $20 is over Woodman's; $50 is over HyVee]. When I was able to drive I'd always go to Aldi's 1st & then pick up the rest of what I needed at surrounding stores. All in all I save between $100-$150/month over Woodman's. And I simply can't stand those gigantic stores any more. So much stuff, so little I would buy. And having all that extra stuff means the giant stores have to charge more than Aldi's because of their overhead. In all the time I've shopped at Aldi's I've never had a problem with service. Indeed many clerks have gone out of their way on my behalf, especially but not only when I show up with my walker. Whereas in the giant stores I get big sighs implying, like...really?? read more

Yes it's a pain to have to fetch your cart with a quarter in hand, but where the appreciation comes in is their low low prices! This pas weekend, I found strawberries for sale for $1.29 for 16 oz container! Raspberries for $2.39 and avocados for $0.49 each! Prices are subject to change, but one thing is constant, there are good deals to be had, if you know your prices. Certain items are cheaper than Woodman's, some are not. Some items are not available here (what do you expect for a store a quarter the size of Copp's?). Another thing, the employees are very friendly. I won't come back here. I get that it was after 6pm. I get that it was crowded (please explain why there was only one cashier open?). That's to be expected. But the produce section was a big gaping hole of empty boxes. This store is huge, but it doesn't utilize its space--there are so many empty boxes where product COULD be. I went for broccoli (managed to find ONE sad little bag of crowns--and I HUNTED), frozen fruit (couldn't find it), and mango (found two--ONLY TWO). If you want the premade pizza or frozen meals, or booze, they had a lot of that crap. But if you want to cook healthy, good things for your corporeal temple, skip it. read more

Waffled between a three and a four but rounded up based on what it is, and not what I wish it would be. This Aldi is a new build and is the nicest and largest Aldi I've been in to this point (I've heard rumors of Sun Prairie being even larger, so we'll probably check that out at some point). I had originally been to Aldi in high school to shop for supplies for an extracurricular club party (limited budget meant making the most of our money). Unfortunately, the products were not great. In recent years I've read that many of Aldi's brands are made by name-brand manufacturers and they're poised to take on Whole Foods with their organic and no artificial additives approach to products so I thought I'd give them another go. Overall it was fine with some really good finds. I did a lot of impulse shopping so my bill wasn't great at the end, but I scored some coconut oil for a couple dollars cheaper than I've seen it elsewhere and got some Girl Scout cookie knock-offs for about half the price. Also: hamburger buns for 15 cents. I also ended up with a bunch of products that were pretty terrible, though: - Veggie burgers: they were a vegan vegetable blend (instead of soy-based) that had things like broccoli and edamame, both of which I like. In burger form, though, it was disgusting. The vegetables were cheap (hard, chewy broccoli stalks) and due to the range of vegetable types they didn't cook evenly. - Frozen pineapple fruit bars: the flavor was fine but these were also made with cheap castoff bits like the veggie burger - tons of pineapple core that was inedible. No one wants to be spitting out chunks from their ice pop. - Four cheese pasta sauce: watery. Not inedible by any means, but just not very flavorful and didn't really coat the pasta. I did just learn of Aldi's return policy - if you don't like it you can return it for a new product plus your money back; I'll start saving receipts as a I experiment with their product line. read more

I have to send some love to Aldi. This place is a little weird and quirky, but it's my go to grocery store and I love it for so many reasons. Let me count the ways: 1. Wide selection of different products but not cluttered with a ton of brands- there are 1-2 options for each item you are looking for. For example,there is only one kind of diced tomatoes. No more comparing between brands. Aldi regularly cycles through products so there is always something new to try. Some items will only be around for a few weeks, and then they wont be back for a few months. Keeps things fresh and interesting! 2. They have a ton of really interesting European items from mustards and cheeses to cookies and chocolates. It's also the best place to buy brie. It's just as quality as President, but literally half the price. 3. It's very inexpensive- many things are dollars cheaper than the regular grocery stores. 4. Quality produce- not a huge variety, but they have all the essentials 5. Amazing return policy- return anything you didn't like and they will refund you and replace it with something else. Tips: Bring your own bags, you will be bagging your own groceries Bring a quarter, you will need one to get a cart, don't worry, you get it back when you return the cart read more

You know what's cool? $3 wine. You know what else is cool? Progressive grocery stores that have creative incentives like no bags and return-a-cart quarter slots. This store has both and is all around a pretty fun place. It's definitely a discount grocery and doesn't offer a wide variety of brands, but that's why everything is so cheap! Pain in the butt store----zero customer service. The last time I'm there there are 12 people in line waiting in line to check out. Do you think they would consider opening another line? Not! The Fitchburg Aldi store is the worst in Madison for customer service---AND they have been that way for years. I always get a hoot when the check out person asks--Did you find everything today? Well, when you reply 'no' (shelves aren't stocked)---they just say "too bad" or 'too bad better luck next time". Ha! They aren't interested in any type of service. The store is too cheap to hire many decent people (or the manager is really bad because of the constant hire turn over)....and/or Aldi won't staff the store with sufficient staff to handle the customers. Over time I've ran into multiple people that stopped going---too much hassle for the minimal savings and since they don't keep items on the shelves you end up going someplace anyway to finish your shopping. read more

Picked up some supplies for my baking day. Also found some fun charcuterie and cocktail ingredients. The holidays are coming up soon and I need to get my base down before tackling any shopping. My base=cocktails and cookies. I was surprised by the amount of gluten free and organic items. They are connected to Trader Joe's and you can tell by the selection of their international foods and their products in the cooler section. Very affordable for all. Everyone can afford to eat healthy on a budget here. Good job Aldi for being progressive. read more

My grocery bill is about 1/3 lower than it was when I shopped at Copps. They don't have a huge selection, but for basic groceries they have most things. The prepackaged deli meats are excellent, much of the frozen food is great, and things like bread, milk, and eggs are very low priced and good quality. Everybody I've talked to who works there seems very nice. read more

I really like the business model of this grocery store. First of all they have the lowest prices I have seen on many items. I filled a cart with food for about $50. Granted, much of the food is middle of the road quality, and they just throw the food back into the cart and you have to grab a box and box the food up yourself. They do not have different brands for every product and don't have any health food, but for the savings, it is definitely worth stopping in here to get whatever you can before going someplace much more expensive. read more

I had been to Aldi overseas in Europe and Australia before seeing them pop up here stateside years back, and was pleasantly surprised. I do like their business model, and as a consumer, if you know what you are looking for, Aldi can save you a ton of money. Small things can be off-putting for those who like convenience: needing a quarter for a cart, being able to use only cash or debit, and not having everything stocked year round (a lot can be seasonal, like fruits and veggies). But, for budget shoppers, this is the place. I've read a couple of things online about Aldi that is worth noting. It's apparently owned by the same company as Trader Joe's (or it's brothers that own each). Also, most of the food is just repackaged differently than named brand items from places like SuperValu. I could go on about items I like to get at Aldi, but I'll just comment on this location. Since it's newer than the Watts Rd. location, I found it to be bigger, brighter and carries more items. It's also very clean. Hyvee (which is great) is right across the street, so I find it very convenient to be able to go to both stores. read more
