We stopped here for some items for grilling burgers later and what an old school throw back in time grocery store. The carts are the old school fold up kind which I thought were all gone. The store it self is everything a modern grocery store has with meat, deli, produce, frozen, take home fried chicken and pre made options. There was a knock off red box looking movie machine which I have never seen before. There is a nice liquor section with a good size walk in cooler for a small town store. This was a completely small town grocery store feel which I liked. The check out lanes were a blast from the past old school. I had to ask what the kid with the funky cart at the end of the check out was, they deliver you're groceries to your car for you, who does that. This was a great shopping experience and if I lived in town I would shop here. read more

I'm a true believer that price shouldn't be the deciding factor in where to spend your hard earned dollars. Service, community support and price should all be part of your decision. Millers is a true supporter of Verona. Hiring students and instilling a work ethic. Supporting high school athletics with Saturday brat fries in the summer. Millers provides the brats, hotdogs, buns, condiments and grill. The teams (mainly parents) set up in Millers parking lot grilling and selling brats and keeping ALL of the proceeds for the athletes. This is just one of the ways they give back to the community. They support local producers. I even read a copy of a thank you letter posted in the meat department from a child thanking them for buying their prize winning 4H pig. Can't get more farm to table than that! Some items may be a bit more expensive. Of course it is. They don't have the buying power of Walmart. But, you get what Walmart doesn't supply. Old time courteous, friendly service. Grocery carry out to your car. (Really, who likes having to wait in line, hoping the right cart is loaded into your car at the drive thru). They also have enough staff so you're not waiting in line forever. read more

The meat aisle has the usual selection and doesn't use the strange new color correction lighting that makes the red meats look somehow still living and in my view quite unappealing. The real appeal at this store is the baggers and cashiers, they don't seem like reanimated mannequins, the kind found in most retail. I LOVE this grocery store! I recently started working in the area and Miller's is such an easy and convenient store to pop into before or after work, or for a quick lunch find. My first visit I was completely blown away by the selection. This place isn't huge, but the amount of products they carry and the various options available are definitely huge. They have everything! I have been back several times now and there are a handful of things that stick out to me.. Friendliness of staff - Everyone always had a smile and is more than willing to help find whatever you need. Availability of staff - There is always someone available to help, I often see several staff members out on the floor stocking or cleaning.. If you need help with something you aren't stuck wondering aimlessly looking for someone. Cleanliness of store - They are doing a great job with keeping things clean and enforcing masks during these covid-times. Miller's is doing exactly what they need to be doing to keep everyone safe! I appreciate their efforts to make sure we are as safe as possible. Hand sanitizer is available at the front and the checkers have plexiglass dividers as well. All staff members are masked up. "MIller's" (as the locals call it) is one of the few classic small town grocery stores. They have a great deli selection, pretty good meals to take away on those nights when you're running late and don't have time to make a meal, and their bakery is really good. Great cakes, donuts and bread made on site ("I love the smell of a donut shop in the morning"). A nice selection of meats and cheeses if you have to put together a charcuterie plate for a last minute dinner at a friend's house (for example...) They do a very good job at trying to offer a diverse selection of groceries, you can find a lot of items here that you wouldn't expect to find at a small town grocery store. And they're always well-staffed, I almost never have to wait more than a few minutes in line. Where Miller's really shines for me is that they employ lots of kids from Verona, and they offer up their parking lot for tons of local organizations for brat sales on the weekends. Simply the best grocery store I've ever shopped at. I've been in high end luxury stores and super mega markets and Millers manages to beat them all. It carries a wider variety than much bigger stores, and the shelves are always full. I never, not once, have had to wait in a line of more than 1 person. The staff are friendly and efficient. Baggers do a fantastic job and cheerfully bring to groceries to your car. Bakery, deli, and produce stock excellent fresh product. Even the liquor store is extremely well stocked. read more

Miller's and Sons did just a phenomenal job in catering all the food for my daughter's baby shower. The party trays were delicious, plentiful and beautifully put together. What a cute neighborhood market! I was in the area and decided to pop in for a quick couple of items and to check it out after hearing about it for years. The store feels very homey and is extremely pleasant to spend some time in. In addition to grabbing some cereal and yogurt (found a new Madison-based brand called Yodelay I'd never seen before from the founder of Candinas Chocolates) I visited the deli and bakery counters. From the deli I got their parmesan bowtie salad and from the bakery I got three donuts. Parmesan bowtie salad: delicious, not oily, and the broccoli was crisp and fresh. Triple chocolate Bavarian donut: chocolate dough, chocolate icing, chocolate creme filling. Good but not life-changing. Miller's splits their donuts in half to fill instead of injecting. More even filling throughout, but messier to eat. Frycakes (cake ring donuts): plain and sugared. The flavor of the day was apple cider. I couldn't taste cider in either, but I'm not sure if all of the frycakes were supposed to be the featured flavor or if I missed the special one. I've seen several reviews proclaiming Miller's the best donuts ever but for me they just weren't mind-blowing. Tasty for sure and I'd eat them again, but I wouldn't trek out to Verona specifically to get them. To be fair I did sample them a day after buying, so maybe they need to be day-of to get the full effect? Prices are lower than I expected; being a small independent store I figured there'd be a markup, but they were on par with Copps/Festival/etc. There weren't as many noticeable in-store markdowns and sales [ex: 10 for $10] but I know they put out a circular from living on the west side. The deli mac n cheese is the best mac n cheese I have tasted and that's saying a lot. Perfect little hometown grocery store. Always clean and great staff. To get your pick of donuts you have to be there by 7am to beat the rush as there are rarely more than a couple left by 8am. My husband and I moved to Verona when I was 22 years old. I'm now 72. I've been shopping at Millers for 50 years. I came on this site today because I can't find my Miller's ad to do my shopping list, and I saw somebody left a 1 star rating because of the flavor of some steaks. I refuse to move because I know I will never find another grocery store with such a great meat market as Millers. Anything you want they will cut special for you. Package of meat to big? They will take care of that too. Best deli around. Nice people. I decided to do the math. Considering vacations shopping 50 weeks a year for 50 years, I have been on 2600 shopping trips to Miller's. Wow, so happy with Millers & Sons in Verona! Not only is staff friendly and checkout always quick, but they are customer-focused. Since recently moving to Verona, we shop a lot at Miller's, except for a few things we can't find for which we go "into town" to Pick N Save. Today, by surprise, I saw they're now carrying Daiya dairy-free Greek yogurt!! I had emailed the manager a few weeks ago first encouraging them to continue stocking organic food (and they do have a decent selection!), but second, asking to please carry this brand of yogurt (other vegan brands are runny and have less nutritional value)! I hadn't heard back, but they listened and it was there on the shelf today!! On the way out, I saw and thanked the manager, Kevin, explaining I was the one that emailed him, I told him I really appreciate them listening, and now we have no reason to go elsewhere so we'll be getting groceries exclusively at Miller's (ok, except for some things on the occasional Target run;) )! What a great grocery store! It's outward appearance belies the wonders that lie within. They have just about everything you would need. There's a side liquor area with all your adult beverage options. The best part is the checkout. The carts push right up to the checkout, so you don't have to unload your cart. There's a nice high school boy that bags everything and loads the bags on a special cart. And then without even asking, they take it out to your car and load it all in your trunk! I really appreciate the gluten sensitive selection available at this small town grocery store. I like supporting a local business while still being able to find items to meet my special diet. They have separate freezer compartments labeled "gluten free" but beware, they have gluten free pizza mixed with gluten pizza because it's both Amy's Kitchen brand. the same is true of the entree freezer. Make sure you're taking home that rice mac and cheese, which is located right next to the regular mac and cheese! They do have a whole shelf of dry goods in a specially labeled gluten free aisle. I've found that aisle to be properly separated from its gluten counterparts. Cashiers are always friendly, even the high school age cashiers. There's hope for our youth yet! And, they always offer to help you out to the car with your bags, even if you only have one or two. Keep up the good work Miller and Sons! read more

The store is well lit, well staffed, has great selection, the owners know me, the check out people are mostly great, they carry your purchases out to your car. What is not to love about this place. One of the best things about living in the burg of Verona, is having access to one of the last, if not THE last, family grocery stores in Dane county. Miller's grocery store has epitomized helpful service and community support in the many decades that my family has been going there. They may not have or carry everything that the mega-stores have but their strength is in what the others don't have, and that's customer service. Anytime I can't find anything, any of the staff that I ask will put down what they're working on and will take me to the spot where the item I want is or several spots if we can't find it in the first. They are more than willing to try and order something for you too, if they don't have it and you have the luxury of waiting. And yes, as they say in their t.v. ads, they still carry your groceries out to your car! Now, as a strapping young.......er......middle aged......um.....old man, I can still carry my groceries out to my car without assistance but for many of their customers, this is a big deal. You can ask for help at those other stores but my observations have been that you're waiting for some time, if you can get assistance to your car at all. At Miller's they're there as soon as you're done checking out. They may charge a little more for some of their items but honestly, I've found their prices to be competitive and I will always try to stop there to pick up my favorite milk from Sassy Cow Creamery! It is always cheaper at Miller's than any of the other stores that I may go to that also carry it. One of my favorite interactions with the staff, and a prime example of customer friendliness, at Miller's was a couple years ago, when I stopped in to pick up a bucket of fried chicken. It was near shut down time for the deli and they were literally just pulling it from their case. They were going to toss it but after I said that I'd come there for the chicken, the manager handed me a full bucket of said chicken and said, "No charge. We were going to write it off anyway." You don't get that at those mega-stores! I can attest to that personally! The store is always clean, the staff friendly, and all the produce, meat, and bakery (great donuts!!), that I've purchased there, has always been good. They may not have a huge selection, and they're definitely not as trendy as T.J.'s, but if you truly want a taste of what an old school, neighborhood grocery store used to be like, go to Miller's in Verona and you'll savor it today. read more

Miller's has almost everything I need for my weekly grocery shopping. Most smaller grocery stores only carry about half of what I usually need. Their produce is a little more expensive but they have great meat specials. They also have a kiosk for movie rentals (like a redbox but not) and they have the DMV self service kiosk to renew license plates. Lots of high schoolers at the register but they are polite and they usually offer to carry my bags out to my car. read more

This review is a little difficult for me because I want to LOVE Miller's. I've been going here for years, because I always try to support local businesses. Aside from being a local business, the owners are so nice and the staff brings your groceries out to your car for you. They have worked hard to remain relevant in a fast paced world of technology in many ways, including a loyalty program and the ability to order your groceries online and pick them up without even leaving your car. I've taken advantage of that service, and it was truly awesome. So why only 2 stars? A few little annoyances, and one BIG problem. First annoyance: price. Miller's is considerably more expensive than other stores in the area (including Hyvee). I don't mind too much, again it's a local business. Second annoyance: lack of variety of items. Specifically, the flavors of certain items (yogurts, ice cream, etc). Not a huge deal, and they do sell several items from local farms, which is pretty cool. Third annoyance: things are constantly moving and the placement of many items make no sense. I've had to ask a manager where the breadcrumbs moved to and even she had no idea! I ended up leaving the store without them. Lastly, the big problem.... expired products!!!! I cannot tell you the amount of times I brought something home only to find out it had expired. I have opened a bag of shredded cheese the same day I bought it to find out that it was not only expired, it was also moldy. The chai I just bought 3 days ago, expired last week . I bought yogurt for a recipe last week, I go to make the recipe two days after buying the yogurt, and it's 20 days expired! Earlier this year, a cashier was ringing up my chicken, and she's says "what's that smell?" I couldn't smell anything, but it turns out, it was the chicken I was about to buy! I'm lucky for the keen nose on that cashier, otherwise I could have gotten super sick. These are only my most recent examples, I could go on, but I think you get the point. I should not have to look at every item I purchase to see if it has expired. Don't the employees get paid to do that? I think I have finally given up on Miller's. Two expired items in my grocery bag last week was the final straw. I work too hard to waste money throwing away items I just bought. I'm very sorry to have to come to this conclusion. read more
