I'm not an ALDI regular-- we're more of a "Gross Out" family (IYKYK) after buying our frozen stuff at TJ's and produce at Sprouts. But I found myself with an hour to kill in the Monrovia shopping center that I still inexorably associate with K-MART, and I wandered inside. No quarters on my person, so I did not get a cart. I grabbed a bag of apples, a container of milk, perused the meat counter, snagged a pack of Swiss cheese for $2. Ended up getting out for under $20. Prices are definitely lower than big-name grocery chains, but I didn't feel like anyone lost money on me. Nice young lady at the register, fast check out. I imagine--like Gross Out-- you can come here weekly if your shopping list is simple, or if you are willing to mix things up with substitutes for what you were looking for in the first place. So for me, I'll give them a positive rating, but it probably won't change my frequency of visiting. Creatures of habit tend to operate like that. read more

Fairly decent ALDI and like other locations, this one is a bit ransacked around weekends, the day they have the new weekly ad (Wednesday), and around the holidays. Parking can get a bit hectic but it's not the worse location that's out there. Decent stock on produce, snacks, frozen section and Aldi Finds during my visit. Meaning that a lot of stuff was already gone, but it wasn't completely empty or messy like some other locations. It does get super busy here, but the workers are doing their best. Once you pay, they are already checking out the next person so push your cart out of the way or grab your items quickly! It's lively market ambiance-wise and not a bad ALDI to stop by if you're in the area. read more

Half the carts are broken, often I come in and there's few if any shopping carts at all. If you go 3-4 parking rows away the cart will freeze up and you have to flag a manager to unlock it. Sometimes there's scammers at the shopping cart area " offering" their quarter/slug for yours or some shenanigans. Not homeless, just Californians that extra 25 cents can go towards their pot stash I guess. Not bad inside but if they can't handle basic cart maintenance I'm concerned how they handle the produce there. When I did health inspections in the military at the chow hall my first look was the equipment. If it's not well maintained I can tell most likely the report was going to be unsat because that lack of effort extends to food prep, storage and everything else. We love Aldi and we frequent this store because we live within a mile from the store. Plus we buy gluten free products which Aldi usually carries. Today though, we had a horrible customer service experience from a manager by the name of Jennifer. We asked for an item from the freezer that she was asked to assist us with. Many food items and always go early before a holiday ! The service is friendly but unobtrusive. So you may have to ask and sometimes the only 'service/worker' is checking people out. They use to have a self- check at most Aldi's but theft was an issue. Ambiance is clean, well-lit , a low counter to bag & sort your own purchases. The Handinwipes are at the front & carts are available to rent for a quarter, you get your quarter back when you walk your cart back or find someone to do that for you.... Public restrooms . Great service and reasonable prices! I always find products that become essentials. With rising food costs at most markets, this is the place to save those hard earned bucks. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Today a clerk noticed that some freezer items were out of reach for me and immediately sprung in to assist. This seems to be the norm here. read more

Had a very rude and unprofessional clerk (woman) at the Monrovia store this morning between 9-10am. First of all, had full cart of groceries to bag and when I attempted to bring cart over to counter to bag (with my elderly mother-in-law), clerk started putting items in my cart (which I had put quarter in to use) for next customer. The next customer had their own car too, so I told clerk I needed to bag items at shelf and took items from next customer for her into next customer's own cart. When I said I needed to bag at shelf, the clerk yelled that that's not what you're supposed to do. When I took the cart and bagged my items and begin to leave, the clerk yelled out "are you going to return that cart?", so loudly that other customers noticed and made comment. I told her I was going to unload and return to get my quarter back. Have never had such a rude experience at this store. read more

I love Aldi for their house stuff. They have the best deals on little hot trinkets. You can find so many house items, dog stuff and clothing for great prices. . The service is not that great , many of the workers do not like to help you and are always in a rush. This location restroom is always dirty too. The ambiance is cool and the parking is easy. They have a lot of healthy food to choose from with bargain deals. I will always be a customer due to the trinkets they have. read more

Needs more staff since there weren't any available on the floor to ask for assistance. The inventory seems poorly managed- all the wheat bread was out. The produce aisle, especially bananas, were almost out. There weren't enough plastic bag rollers available for produce also. The worst part was there was only one cashier available in the entire store on a Saturday afternoon. This created a long mess of customers waiting to pay. read more

Respectfully, to that blonde curly mid length hair girl at the register #1 on 12/30 at exactly 3:20pm who didn't bother asking if I needed any bag when you obviously know the cart don't go out with the customers and you see I had so much groceries to carry, all you needed to do is ask if I need one just like a normal human being working and if you have any ounce of commonsense. Not every customer that shops there, shops there all the time. You are well aware that I will be going out of that store and it will be impossible for me to carry all those groceries out but you didn't care and when I asked if I could purchase bags since I forget to bring one you said you don't provide bags anymore. Aldi has been one of my stores that I've began visiting a lot more since the lockdown had been set in place. I used to come here simply because it was next to TJ Maxx and it was convenient, but now it's because it's not extremely packed and they've got great prices! They sell a dozen of eggs for usually no more than $2. They also have extremely reasonable prices on produce (e.g. cilantro and green onion for under a $1 a bunch). They have signs everywhere to help remind people to socially distance as well. Reminder: bring your own bags to pack your grocery in or bring a quarter to get a cart. read more

If you've never been to (or heard of) Aldi before, it's a New-ish supermarket chain that originated from Germany. It's under the same corporation as Trader Joe's, and just like TJ's, they have their own brands. By doing this, they can keep the prices low. But how it's different from TJ's is many of their products are generic brands of popular items; I.e. Honey Nut Cheerios, Doritos, Granola bars, coffee creamers ... etc. and many of them taste the same or better ham the brand name counterparts. 12/7/17: Today was the grand opening of this location,'right next door to Homegoods & TJ Maxx. Reusable bags were given to shoppers. Hey, who can't use more bags? Save the planet! Most of the items are the same as other stores, with a few exceptions. I'm not sure of their new products are shipped to this store exclusively,or will roll out to all locations soon. They have a holiday section with seasonal gifts, foods and even gift wrap. There are also holiday themed eats, like ice cream shaped like Christmas trees, peppermint ice cream, holiday coffee. Executives were seen surveying the store. Many of the staff were brought from other locations to help out. But a few were using heavy machinery to wax the floor, which was bad timing since the store was pretty full of customers. Through all the chaos, I was still able to get what I needed, plus a few extra treats. I remain a fan of this store. You should now: * You bag your own groceries, and there's a spacious counter for everyone to do that. * Part of the Peking lot is closed off due to construction next door. * Cashiers were handing out coupons for this store only. If you like Trader Joe's you should theoretically like Aldi! I've been shopping at Aldi grocery stores for years when I lived in Miami and in NYC, and I absolutely love this chain. They have a tremendous variety of products (almost all their own brands just like TJ's) and they are consistently very good quality and I also love the less is more mentality they espouse. What do I mean by this? To keep the cost of products significantly lower than other chains, they minimize certain things including aesthetic appeal, staff, and generally keep seasonal produce in stock and rotate certain items based on the season and demand (don't be surprised if you go back for something a month later and they don't carry it - the rule of thumb, if you loved it, stock up on it!). You will notice few cashiers at all their locations. Usually there is a store manager (who is working in the back or stocking) and a cashier who rings people up, does returns, and does other things late night when there are few shoppers in the store. With one register open how can they possibly keep checkout lines short, you may ask. Well, the answer is simple...they are extremely efficient and ring you up very quickly. Minimal small talk and they do not bag for you! Seems weird at first, but just move your cart over to the side loading area at the front of the store and pack up your own bags. It's really not bad - especially with the savings this store offers! Bring in your bags or pay ten cents or so for their large reusable bags which I always keep in my car. Speaking of cart, make sure you bring a quarter so that you can use a cart. Once you finish shopping and loading your cart, simply take the cart back to the storefront and reclaim your quarter! Easy as pie!It's a great concept that works wonders - and again, keeps costs low because they don't have to hire extra staff! Ultimately, their selection of non-gmo, organic, and healthy (their "Simply Nature" brand) items keeps me coming back again and again. Oh, and it's so fun to find and try their assortment of unique speciality European products (primarily Italian and German imported). If you are too afraid to switch over and cheat on your main, go in for cheese, charcuterie, and wine one day. So many delicious options at a fraction of the cost! Trust me, you will be surprised by how full you can get your cart and pay around $100 bucks! read more

Grand opening for the newest location of Aldi today. This Aldi is located in the same plaza as the newly opened TJ Maxx and Home Goods store (right next door to Home Goods actually) and Michael's. I love that this plaza is getting more foot traffic with all of the new stores opening and Aldi is a great addition as the nearest market in the area is Von's Pavilions on Foothill Ave and Smart & Final on Huntington Dr. Being that today was their official grand opening, there was free food sample demonstrations and free Aldi reuseable bags given (with purchase, but limited quantities). The layout of this Aldi is similar to other locations that are logical and easy to find food items like produce and meat. For those that have never shopped at an Aldi before, I would have to describe this store like a Fresh & Easy and Trader Joe's (owned by the same company as Aldi). Some of the produce is packaged together instead of having the ability to purchase loose. This store sells a lot of their own store branded items (most of their items, this way to keep prices low and affordable) but of course do sell other brands. The meat section is on the small side. Being very basic, Aldi may not have most hard to find items if you are looking for something particular for a complicated recipe. One thing that I do want to mention that is unique to Aldi is that if you want to use one of their shopping carts, you will need to insert a quarter into the coin slot. But you can get that quarter back once you return it (this is one way to keep the carts out of the parking lot I suppose and others possible from walking away with their cart?). Also you have to bag your groceries, but there is a designated counter space available. Also being that this is a German company, you can find some tasty unique culinary finds that are straight from Germany. So be on the look out for those items if you are feeling adventurous. Employees were very friendly upon entering this store and actually makes me want to bring my husband to take a look for himself. I don't normally like to shop at Aldi because of the bare basics of what this market provides and limitations of what they do not have, but I can see myself in the future stopping by here if I was in the area and need to pick up some basic food staples for the week. read more

A Hispanic, chubby, light skinned, brown haired girl was the worst. I asked for one of the carts inside the store (which I was going to pay for) bc I forgot to get one from outside and she said no you have to get one from outside which was fine. She had her reasoning. But when I go to pay for my products she was very cold with me. She treated the customer before and after me quite differently which I thought was weird. She obviously was bothered by me asking for a cart lol! Aldi you need to really hire people with better attitudes bc this girl definitely needs a behavior adjustment. I really like Aldi and their products. The prices are cheaper than the other markets. Basically you're getting the same thing but it's Aldi's brand. One of my favorite items to get it this coconut caramel cookies which is basically the knock off version of Girl Scout Samoas. It's exactly the same and less than 2 dollars a pack. It might not be girl scout season but Aldi has those girl scout cookie all year. read more

In the past I have enjoyed Aldi, however, I don't think I will ever go back. Aldi sent out an ad a couple of weeks ago for steaks. I went in the store to pick some up to grill that night. I found the steaks, hopped in line and the cashier tried to ring them up...they were not showing in the system. He asked another guy who told him what to try and that still didn't work. So the other guy told him to radio someone, assuming manager, but I can't be sure. He told the other lady that the steaks in the ad are not ringing up. So her response was "tell them we cannot sell them right now....." he was like...she's in line standing her waiting and her response was "well, if she wants to wait a while, she can". So, you send out an ad, a customer comes in to purchase said item and instead of just manually typing them in...you chose to just let the customer walk out? That makes zero sense. I've worked at a grocery store before, this is not the correct way to handle it. The two cashiers, were super friendly and apologized, they were great. But whoever the lady was on the radio...horrible customer service and now I won't be going back. read more

Aldi has random goodness and consistently low priced high quality items such as milk, eggs, and bread. I participate in a Thanksgiving food drive and consistently save $10 with comparable items from Aldi's compared to Ralph's or other grocery stores. Yes I made a nerdy excel sheet and did the research. I enjoy their seasonal items, During the summer I bought an 8 man tent for $60, field tested and solid performance. Pay attention. I also purchased a bee nesting house for $20 that you can find online for $60 or more. Who you bee callin honey? Last year I attempted to see what the Holiday clamour was all about regarding the advent calendars. Good deals and apparently I'm new to the game regarding the wine advent calendar that sells out to a line of people that wait before the store opens at 9 am. Wine not. If you shop here, you know carts costs a quarter. If you do not want to pay a quarter for the cart, just carry your own groceries. Lot of deals in aldi especially on food items. It's mostly off brand versions of the popular products out there with a cheaper price and same taste. I can't speak on the meat or produce/cereals ect cuz I haven't tried it but they have good deals on cheese,milk,eggs,oj and freezer stuff. They also sell spices and household goods at a nice price. I agree with the post I just read that it's basically like Trader Joe's but not as cutesy inside lol. It's just no frills shopping. I will never ever shop at Aldi again. I was a three times a week shopper and because of the panic buying employees are treating customers horrible. I walked in to get a couple of items I needed walked to the meat area a few people just standing around. So I needed ground beef so I got one and I was yelled at by the stocker that they're not selling meat right now and out it back. No sign or anything. Even the cashier was opinionated and rude. Typically very satisfied with prices and service. However, after realizing I was sold two packs of rotted salad and brought them back 10 minutes later, I was told no returns or exchanges-____- Of course I don't want to return or exchange rotted salad. Your suppose to confirm the food is rotted by looking at it, confirm the transaction with proof of purchase, refund me, and immediately inspect the rest of your produce to make sure you don't sell anymore rotted food, hurt someone and rack up health code violations. Sounds like the bad reviews are 50% about having to use a quarter for carts, 25% not having someone to bag stuff for you and 25% not finding brand name products. First off, the quarter system prevents cart theft which helps keep prices down considering how much a shopping cart cost (hundreds of dollars). Second, it's just another way to cut costs by not paying for extra staff to run around bagging your groceries. Third, products are cheaper because they're not brand name. Simple as that. You want brand name, you go pay more for it. And about the comment about cashiers sitting. Most supermarkets and stores around the world allow their cashiers to sit and instead of stand all day. The best deals in town on groceries can be found here along with a well curated selection of European specialties. Hard to beat a dozen eggs for under a buck on sale. What you won't get is service you may be used to in other local groceries. Plan to bring a quarter to rent a cart and hustle through the line to avoid being called out. You are on your own finding stuff, as there is rarely any help on the floor. Lines can be long at peak hours and mostly only one register is open at a time. I wish Aldis had self checkout so I wouldn't have to deal with their rude and unprofessional employees. Cashiers have zero customer service skills. They don't say hi, bye, or thank you. They start scanning the next order even before the transaction before is even completed. On two occasions I have seen the cashier throw the receipt on top of the customers groceries instead of handing it to the customer. Once to me and another time to an older lady who was quite shocked by how rude the cashier was. It really sucks because Aldis has great prices and a pretty good selection of items and things that I can't find anywhere else. The supermarket I come to most often, cashier are very nice. When I checked out today, I accidentally dropped a box of strawberries, the cashier asked me if I wanted to change a box. This is how they perceive to keep prices down. They expect the customer to pay a quarter so they will return the carts themselves, instead of having to pay someone to collect the carts for them. They want you to bag your own groceries so they don't have to pay for someone to bag them. Each store literally has 6-10 employees all together that work at each store and expect each employee to do the work of three employees to keep costs down on labor. Cashiers get timed on their scanning expecting you to be quick so they don't have to have multiple cashiers on a shift.. Again to keep costs down. When you aren't fast enough, you get written up. When you are fast enough, you get customer complaints because the customer perceives you as rude or that you are mishandling their products. Management is the problem. read more
