Ever since the bird flu of 2025, eggs are still hovering at six dollars a dozen not only that, they are constantly out of staple items such as peppers, red and green, fruit and variety of other items are not stocked. There's an Aldi only about five miles away from another in South Windsor. The low prices on generic products are really deals you don't want to miss out on. The name brand Pop tarts are over four dollars but you can get the Aldi's version well under $2 for 12-pouch pack. The hot cocoa rolls for the holidays from Pillsbury are stocked here. This store is well stocked and sanitary plus employees are treated nicely while serving your shopping needs. If you don't want to hit up ShopRite for certain products, then Aldi's is a place for you for decent prices on frozen food, bakery items, snack products and more. read more

Unfortunately, many items are discontinued or frequently unavailable as soon as I fall in love with them (fiber one cereal, three pack of individual pizza crusts, Radiance dry sweeping cloths, frozen crab cakes, frozen eggplant cutlets). I hope this week Radiance hand soap for dishwashing will be available. (I refuse to pay $4 for Dawn,etc.) Also, the non-grocery impulse aisles take space from what is more needed: more frozen food. read more

This is typically my first stop when I need groceries. Their prices on most items I buy are less expensive than other stores and the quality is good.Staple items such as bread, vegetables & dairy are purchased here. Their bread selection is pretty good. They carry items such as the chocolate-filled croissant rolls that are just as tasty as a local warehouse club sells but half the size. Their artisan breads are as good as any we've found in other stores. We love the sourdough here. They also carry a brand sometimes from Illinois that my hubby grew up eating with Italian beef. We bought ciabatta rolls this time and they are the softest ones we've ever had! They still have that chewy texture but are super soft. We had them with cheese & prosciutto for a snack, & later made sandwiches. The fruits & vegetables here are usually in good shape. Bananas are not always ripe but everything else has been good. Fruits such as grapes & berries are budget-friendly and last well in the refrigerator. I buy squash, potatoes & onions regularly. The dairy case offers good prices most of the time. The week before Thanksgiving, they had a good sale on butter quarters as they were marked $1.50 off with a limit of 6. Yep, I hit that limit! Milk prices here are good as well as eggs. We pay around half as much for eggs here than at other stores. Cream cheese, sour cream & shredded cheeses are all at a bargain and taste good, but the star of the dairy case is the selection of gourmet cheeses that are ridiculously affordable! They carry so many different types of cheeses that work well for entertaining, whether on a charcuterie board or on their own. Cheeses such as Gouda, Gruyère, Havarti, & Brie along with cheddar and other more familiar cheeses. If you're interested in trying a new kind of cheese or flavor, the prices are reasonable enough to do so. With cheeses you often serve crackers & their store brands of crackers are quite good. They have an entertaining box of crackers that has several different types, all delicious & pair well with cheese. Their version of Wheat Thins is a staple in my pantry. I buy many of my baking supplies here as well as oils for cooking. The prices are good and my baked goods come out delicious. Their seasonal aisle has some great finds - foods, beverages & an assortment of decor & gift items as well. We have tried several of their store brand condiments with success. Their mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup & Worcestershire sauce are spot on flavor-wise. Their version of A-1 has a different flavor than the original but it's a good flavor. I use it in place of A-1 and no one has noticed. These are all priced well below name brands & are worth trying. Aldi has lots of options for prepared meals for those times you need something quick. Their Mama Cozi's take & bake pizzas are good in flavor & price, as are the heat & eat entrees such as pork carnitas. 3 minutes in the microwave & you have a main entree. The frozen food section is a treasure hunt for us. We never know what will be in those cases and we've been happy with the items we've picked up. They sometimes carry a delicious frozen French onion soup that I love stocking my freezer with. Pizza from Chicago area restaurant that hubby grew up eating. Desserts galore! We have picked up frozen items for Oktoberfest celebrations when we know we'll be short on time. Schnitzel cooks up quickly, spaetzle is in there (red cabbage is in the veggie aisle), apple struedel, Black Forest cake....so many options! I stock up on frozen veggies here as well. The checkout process is FAST! It's amazing how quickly the cashiers can ring up your purchases & help get you on your way. You won't find grumpy cashiers here! They are always smiling, greeting us & asking if we found everything okay. If you haven't shopped at Aldi before, bring a quarter to get a cart (you get a quarter returned to you at checkout). Bring your own bags as well. I took off one star because they don't carry everything I need & I always have to shop at a second store to get everything on my list. It's worth it to me because I save so much money shopping here. read more

However, with how low the price point is on many items, trying some of them and comparing to name brands is worth it. A savvy shopper can definitely save money compared to just about any grocery store, and even walmart. The overall quality of their products is reasonably good. The goodies available keeps changing. I look at the flyers before starting to the store. It is december 2018 when I am writing this. I tried stollen for the first time in my life and I loved it. It is a German bread with marzipan and some dried fruits. May be there was a tiny bit rum also in the bread. It seems this is the season for spekulatious. Unbelievable prices on food and baby supplies! What's awesome is the baby items have no artificial colors or flavors, and there is a good variety of flavors. The diapers are a steal, and all of the boxes are the same price regardless of the size, so if you need to exchange a box for a different size it is no hassle, and you don't need the receipt! We get organic milk here, fruits and veggies are good if you eat them same-day or soon after, they don't seem to keep for longer periods for some reason. We also like the Mexican food staples like wraps and salsa here. We have never been disappointed with an Aldi brand item. It took me awhile to come around, but I've finally made the jump onto the Aldi train, choo choo. Up to this point in my life I've been wandering the aisles of my local mega grocer. I would arbitrarily grab the brightest box and continue my laissez-faire meander, paying in excess of $200 on most occasions. Who knew that what I needed in my life was a little bit of that German efficiency. Aldi's is a no fuss kind of store. Each store is operated by a skeleton crew of employees, (who are pretty well paid btw). The lack of cart pushers, bag boys, deli and bakery employees must save them a fortune which luckily they pass on to the customers. I've looked down into my cart full of Organic foods, started to dig deep into my wallet only to be told that my bill was $95!!! Can you think of any other weekly expense that could be cut in half?! If you've never shopped at Aldi, you're missing out. It's a discount grocery chain that operates in 32 states. Founded in Germany, I saw Aldi often when I lived and worked in Germany. Owned by the same people who own Trader Joe's, Aldi keeps it prices low, and it stocks a limited selection of items. You won't find many name-brand items because the majority of what Aldi sells is its own private-label products (which cuts out the middleman to keep costs lower). However, the shopping experience at Aldi is much different than the Trader Joe's experience, where happy employees roam the aisles handing out samples and assisting shoppers. At Aldi, items are displayed in the cardboard boxes they were shipped in, you have to bag your own groceries, and Aldi charges you for the bags if you forget to bring your own. A 25-cent deposit is also required if you want a shopping cart, though you'll get your quarter back if you return the cart. The system saves Aldi money (which it presumably passes along to customers in the form of lower prices) because it doesn't have to pay an employee to round up carts from the parking lot. You might not be able to buy EVERYTHING here, but you'll be surprised at what you can! read more

I just recently started shopping at Aldi's, and I must say that the prices are definitely less than at other grocery chains. A gallon of milk is always 20 cents less here, eggs are a lot less, and so are fresh fruits and veggies. They also have a large selection of snack items for much less than comparable name brand items elsewhere. That being said, I cannot always find everything that I need here, so I still need to go to an additional grocery store to complete my weeks worth of grocery shopping. Aldi is one of my favorite places to grocery shop (next to Trader Joe's, which is owned by the same parent company), so I'm going to do my best to not repeat all the good things other Yelpers have said. Usually eating healthy is synonymous with expensive, but not when it comes to Aldi. My staples are: frozen fruit, bananas (44 cents/lb), (massive) garlic cloves (99 cents for three), organic marinara without sugar added ($1.69 each), and organic salsa (under $1.99). I also will buy their avocados (under $1 each), grapefruit (under $1 each), berries (under $2/container), and mushrooms (around $1/container) when they're on sale. And they have random healthy finds like organic coconut oil, fruit leather, and almond butter. When I travel, I love the Bolthouse Green Goodness smoothies. I also love their baking aisle, where you can get items like cans of pureed pumpkin and golden raisins for a steal, and their random rotation of household goods and kitchen items. I've never had an issue with the service, and the staff are always helpful and friendly to me. My two gripes with Aldi are that they don't always have everything I need (their produce section tends to be very seasonal), they don't take credit cards (gotta get that cashback) and they don't accept coupons (which I use frequently). To that last point, Aldi may not accept coupons, but their regular prices are comparable to other grocery store sale prices--and in some cases even cheaper. read more

ALDI also owns TRADER JOE'S! ALDI is a tremendously popular and hugely growing worldwide store (started in Germany by two brothers who still own, altho only one of them is active in the business)....They are billionaires who grew the business from a little grocery store in Germany and now are in a huge amount of countries. I am trying to find the url links to some amazing news stories my friend shared with me.....I will post an update when i can locate them. I am so thankful to a yelp friend of mine who turned me onto this place, the one time before I had decided to try it (after never having heard of it, and knowing they had a new location in Rocky hill). I walked in, took one look and said, ewwww, this is all 'off name' scummy stuff, and its all open stock (kind of like a 'Mini' Sams club but with no membership fees, other than the 25 cents for the carts, which you do receive back. and we prompty turned around and walked out. Big Mistake! The whole beauty of this place is that is can be run with only a couple of employees in the store if need be...they try to run on very limited operating costs, which allows them to keep product costs low! The thing to do is to get on the mailing list, and each Saturday they send out the next weeks super deals (which run everything from electronics to toys, to foods, could be anything that they have a deal on).....and the trick is to get there Sun at 10am when they open, cuz they go FAST! For example....Hubby was there last Sunday for some Anchor Hocking glassware deals $8.88 for a 6 piece glass set of baking containers that also had snap on lids, that could go into freezer/dishwasher/oven. 5 mins after they opened, there was only a couple of them left.....Also got an awesome digital kitchen scale, that elsewhere sells for like 49 bucks and it was 19. Anyway, their trick is that they have major companies (like pillsbury, and big names like that) produce the same goods as they do, but under one of Aldi's own private label names. They also sell some things that u will recognize (Lean Cuisine for example, was 1.88 last week....each) Which is hugely cheaper than other stores. Anyway, if you love Trader Joes, you will love Aldi. and Aldi is blowing up all over this country, I think i read they will have a thousand US stores this yr. I know in Hartford, 3 or 4 have opened in just the past few months. They only carry about 1,400 or so of the most popular/ frequently purchased items, nearly all under their private labels. So, you probably can't do your WHOLE grocery list there, but you can do most of it, and the savings are worth the extra stop! Some stores even have fresh meats, and some locations sell beer and wine. Anyway, do not be a grocery store snob like I was...I am so glad my friend turned me onto this place! If you can ever find the news stories about the brothers, they make for fascinating reading (one of them was kidnapped in the 70s for like 5 million deutchmarks or something, and was released after the ransom was paid.....) They say he is a recluse now, ala Howard Hughes..... Anyway, that's just some interesting reading...the important thing is that this place can save u some serious coin, which is UBER important these days! For those who don't know what aldi is, well it's a mini super market. This place has become more or like my routine spot to pick up a few particular stuffs.. I love their prices and the quality is good as other super markets. I guess this market carries their own tied up brands and I have seen very few reputed brands. They carry cereals, chips,cookies, eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, baking stuffs, detergents, breads, kitchen paper, toilet paper, a few tools and appliances, loads of frozen stuffs..... A lot to explore in this small store. I pick up plain fat free yogurt, cornflakes, oats, most of my baking ingredients, ice creams, frozen green peas, canned juices, chips, all these are my regular picks. They carry fresh fruits n veggies too... In the frozen section they have some cold cut meats too. Every week they have special prices. The staff is friendly and have maintained the store tidily. read more

For the unfamiliar, Aldi can be confusing and possibly annoying. Aldi is a bargain basement grocery store. By bargain basement I am not saying that everything is a whisper away from spoilage...they don't sell national brands here and stick to high turn over goods only. The entire point of Aldi is that they go to manufacturer's and have goods packaged for them under their own brand names. 99% of the time it's the same stuff in Shaws or Super Stop and Shop. They also occassionally buy the national brands at a steep discount and sell them, but don't count on it when you walk in the door. Expect to see cereals and canned goods that look eeriely familiar but not the brands you're used to. Aldi charges you for each bag when checking out, but you are allowed to bring in your own. They also charge 25 cents to use the shopping carts, but you get it back if you return the shopping cart to the front of the store. The entire point of these measures is to lower costs. When you are charged for the bags upfront (rather than it being rolled into the profit margin as other stores do), you have the choice to forgo that cost by recycling bags. By charging for carts, they don't have to pay for an employee to go out into the parking lot and wrangle them all back inside. Small things, but the prices inside are lower because of them. If you're on a really tight budget the only thing cheaper than Aldi is buying stuff out of the back of some guys van. The newer stores (like this one) are clean and well lit. I have visited some of these in PA and they used to be dark and depressing, so I think the management is trying to improve thier image. Give it a shot if you're adventerous, but if you're leery of all store brands don't waste your time. read more

This particlar ALDI just opened on October 2nd, so of course everything is brand new. I deduct points for poor sign placement. For some reason it was placed in front of Spare Time but you actually have to drive further down the road and drive into the lot for Terra Gardens in order to get to there. They market themselves as a "discount grocery store". I had never been in one so I decided to go check it out. You definitely don't want to go here and expect to get your grocery shopping done for the week. It is on the smallish side for a grocery store and they sell a lot of random, generic, off brands that I've never heard of before. But if you are willing to go generic they do have some decent deals. Great location. Been going to this location for several years even before the store was re-done. Now it's really popular more people in the same low prices on all your favorite items. It's a German company so expect to see brand-name items there at all. But everything from Bread to milk to coffee Are very good quality. read more

I am writing this review because I'm a bit disappointed with our local Aldi's Store in North Windham, CT. I am a regular shopper in their store. I was so disappointed a couple of weeks ago when I entered their parking lot to discover they were closed and not due to reopen until the end of June. I love their store. I used to especially live their fit and active canned vegetables. They carried low sodium canned items. Suddenly they no longer had them. My husband has Advanced COPD and congestive heart failure. Their brand was low sodium and reasonably priced! I realize they will reopen, but wish they had let their customers know a bit ahead. Never saw any postings. read more

Prices are great, food is mostly all generic label, but same quality as name brand. Never any lines at checkout. On average cart full of groceries here is probably half the price of Big Y. They have figured out how to be a very economical, efficient chain. If you want 50 varieties of rice, go to Whole Foods. Produce is good quality and cheap. Perhaps some of the non grocery (taxable items) are not great deals. read more

It's a small grocery store (with no deli), with brands that are not from this area of the United States. For instance I shopped at one in another state and found a CVS brand. I recognized the name and bought it, since I grew up in CT I knew the product was fine. Aldi's has their own brand name called "fit and active" that I recognized from shopping at Aldi's in both FL and PA. We went to this Vernon location on Sunday. It's very clean, the floor is obviously cleaned to perfection every night, and I was glad to see that they take debit cards now, it used to be cash only. I love the shopping cart setup. You get your quarter back and you don't have to worry about carts all over the place denting your car in the parking lot. They should have this setup in every store that uses carts in my opinion. We bought $.29 cent cucumbers, tomatoes for 1/4 the usual price, red and yellow peppers, red potatoes, cheddar cheese, bottled spring waters and many other items at less than the sale prices at the big grocery stores. Of course every time you go here you'll see some items the same, some different. If you're out to save money and brand names don't mean much to you, this is a great little store to shop at first, then go to the regular grocery store for the rest, you'll save hundreds over the course of a year if you do. read more

This Aldi is a great place to shop. It's a no-frills store that trades up some (simple but not missed) conveniences for low prices. First I'd like to say that the staff in this market are always incredibly friendly and helpful. I come so often they know me by face which I'm sure they do a lot of other regular customers. This store gives a sense of community every time I walk in and see the employees stocking shelves or cashing me out. The prices are great. Not sure where else you can get a gallon of fresh tasting milk for $2.65 and a dozen eggs for $1.65. The only gripes I have is that the produce can occasionally be a hit or miss (either low on stock, partially rotten or small size vegetables, peppers etc.). And during busy shopping days (like Sundays) some items run out quickly like the Greek yogurts. Most of the other products throughout the range are of good quality and the Aldi corporation seems to be taking further steps to ensure safer ingredients are being used in their foods. I have found this store to be above average in cleanliness, the prices are great and the help is very friendly. The filet mignon wrapped in bacon in cryovac packages is $1.99 for a5 oz. ateak. If you bought this same thing from Omaha Steaks (which we have) it would cost $8 or $9 per steak. I dare you to make the comparison. You cannot taste any difference. I love this store. read more
