This morning, the employee working in the aisles was extremely rude. I was trying to stay out of the way, parked on the side, and quickly got what I needed to avoid causing any inconvenience. Just as I was about to leave, the employee barged in, saying "excuse me" in a very entitled manner while stocking shelves. As a former stocker myself, I always made sure to help customers without invading their space or blocking their way. Politeness and consideration go a long way, and this employee showed none of it. He was a terrible stocker in the mornings. Due to this unpleasant experience, I plan to move my grocery shopping to the weekends. I'm giving this store 2/5 stars because the cashier with long brunette or brownish hair was very nice, even when the machines malfunctioned. For the rude stocker: you're excused, considering I have bad arthritis in my left wrist and your behavior was unnecessarily harsh. Learn to be flexible with customers who spend a lot of money at your store. read more

My mail lady told me at this Aldi's here in Woodstock. Honestly I'd never been to an Aldi before just because I just don't think of Aldi's when I think of groceries. I suppose it's because I live within stone throw of a Publix and Kroger almost on top of each other. Plus I got Costco up my ying yang so I don't venture too far from these flocks..... The first think I notice about this Aldi's is how squeeky clean the place looks. Not one single piece of trash in the parking lot or the sidewalk. The store itself is bright with super shiny floors.... The second thing I notice about this place is how super cheap everything is from produce to wild caught salmon. It's probably 30-70% cheaper than Kroger or Publix depending on the items. Their produce no question is about 50% cheaper than even Walmart. The only thing you may want to remember is that you have to bring a quarter for a shopping cart (you get it back when you return the cart in its proper place) and they don't provide plastic or paper shopping bags for your purchase which is fine since I got a million plastic shopping bags in my house....I'll spot you one if you need it... read more

I was happy with Aldi all along, but post-renovation ... I've added a star! The store is large, cheerful and clean with plenty of specials and even more products. Their prices often beat competitors. Yesterday I bought blackberries for less than a dollar and avocados for 39 cents each. I came away with a selection of interesting German imports priced less than what they'd go for in a gourmet shop. Some things are the same: pack-your-own-groceries, shopping cart rentals, multi-tasking employees. But one convenience they've added: credit cards! And bananas priced by the pound, not in pre-packed bags. I'm a firm believer in competition. With stores like Sprouts, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, Aldi's has to stay in the game by keeping up with the times. And at this outlet at least, they have! read more

AWWW! This location now holds a special memory for me because after years and years of conversations my son has finally realized that if he wants a good healthy meal, he will need to prepare it himself. That "baller" diet is starting to get to him. Yes! So, in light of this recent revelation, we decided to go shopping together, (at his Aldi), and food prep some meals to get him started on a different path. This is the perfect store for that because it literally has a lot of great options within a very small space. The other stores are just too large a nd overwhelming whereas Aldi feels just right. He can even purchase his paper products here. The footprint for this store is perfect for encouraging your children to assist with the shopping and choose better options. As soon as you walk into the store, you encounter fresh produce which sets the tone for your trip. My son had no fresh veggies in his fridge, just frozen options which is no bueno. Okay son, that is why your veggies don't taste like Momma's veggies! Outside of the produce, I love their breads which include delicious brioche buns, spinach wraps and super healthy whole-grain options. I think this store actually had a larger selection of items than my store. It was very well stocked, clean and efficient. Highly recommended for the newly initiated and the very seasoned shopper because everyone loves a bargain! read more

I had heard from a German friend that Aldi's and Trader Joe's were owned by the same company. I expected a Trader Joe's-like selection and experience when I visited this new store in Woodstock yesterday (5/9/12). What a disappointment. The best analogy is to think of Cadillac and Chevrolet. They have the same parent, and they both manufacture automobiles, but they are targeted at different ends of the market. I didn't like this market from the moment I spotted the quarter deposit system for the carriage. I'm happy with store brand selections and enjoy Trader Joe's, Harry's and other similar stores. But this location is very small and has a bit too few selections, and is targeted at the budget-conscious shopper. We will however compliment their graphic artists at headquarters. They have spent a lot of time expertly copying and mimicking the look of brand name packages. Quite frankly I am not sure how they are getting away with some of their designs. They are so close the major brands, especially the cereal boxes. I used a debit card to pay but their terminal did not offer me an option to get cash back. Is this in some way another cost-saving strategy by Aldi's management? The worst thing however was the meat department. Has anyone noticed that their meat is labeled "enhanced"? Water is injected into the meat. I don't like the concept, nor did I like the pinkish tinge to their beef. Aldi's is not for me. Not with that gorgeous Kroger's in Towne Lake or any of the Publix nearby. read more

Ok, I'll be honest and say that I hated the idea of an ALDI going in next to my home in Woodstock. I always thought this place was a bootleg German grocery store for impoverished people who need loads of SPAM and powdered milk. I was wrong, and I'm man enough to admit it. This place rocks. It's a European shopping experience where you have to bring your own bags, pay .25 to get a buggy and all the food is displayed in a crude fashion in the boxes that they were originally shipped in. Pretty fun. It's great! All of the things that make this place look cheap also make your food cost much less. The produce is amazingly cheap. I bought a bag of apples for under 2.00, a pineapple is .69, and bananas are ridiculous as well. It's the best price for produce you can find anywhere...including farmers markets. When you go in here you will need a specific list of stuff you're looking for and they only carry your regular staple items (milk, bread, cereal, beer, wine, canned goods, sauces, coffee...) so don't go in looking for some off the wall brand name thing. We shop at Aldi in Woodstock on a weekly basis. This is a great place for staples - milk, eggs, cereal, bread, etc. We definitely save money. Their wine, chocolate, and chips are pretty darned good too. Oh, and ice cream is very good too. Their produce can be hit and miss. Like Mark L. stated in his review, we have to supplement our groceries at Publix or, God forbid, Walmart. To address some of the complaints about this Aldi that others have posted - yes, there are long checkout lines but they move fast. Not as bad as Walmart, though. Yes, a buggy requires a quarter deposit - big deal. My 5-year old can figure that out. Comparing Adli to Trader Joes???? Really??? That's like going to a Chevy dealer and griping that they're not Cadillacs! After all, their both owned by GM. For those who have never shopped at Aldi - bring your own bags, bring a quarter, and be prepared to bag your own groceries. Aldi carries their brand, not national brand and you can only pay with cash or debit, NOT CREDIT CARDS. I highly recommend Aldi for any cost conscious person, since you can save substantially on some basic staples by shopping here. I have quite a few items that I only get at Aldi because of the prices, which are around 20 to 50% cheaper than in other supermarkets. The quality of the food is almost always very high, and I can't tell the difference between Aldi products and the more expensive versions at other supermarkets. One thing I don't like is that you can't always count on them to be stocked all the time with the basic staples. For example, their plain yogurt used to be one of the staples I would always get from them, but frequently they would be all out. It's likely you will need to supplement shopping at Aldi with trips to Kroger or Publix since there are many items that Aldi just doesn't carry, but a trip to Aldi once a week for some basics is highly recommended. read more

The prices are low and sometimes cheaper than if I tried to buy a name brand with a coupon. They occasionally have name brand products, but it is not their usual fare. I love getting German or European products at a fraction of the price sold in other stores. In case any one is wondering, ALDI Einkauf GmbH & Co. oHG is the parent company of Trader Joe's. I find most of the basics for my cooking and baking needs here and anything else I get from nearby publix. *Meat : i would not recommend buying the sausage in the roll. I have bought three packages and all had a chip or 2 of bone in them. 2 of the packages was Aldis attempt to rectify to first bad one. The beef is so so average. The ground turkey has always been good. The other meats were OK. *Veggies: your basic fare for basic needs. I have been to other Aldis and have never had bad or wilted veggies. You can get super cheap potatoes and onions here that seem to last a good while *fruits: Always good and the bananas seem to last longer than the ones I have gotten at walmart, publix, or kroger. *Freezer I really love the nut topped ice cream cones and fruit bars. They have fantastic prices on honey baked hams, turkeys, and yes even ducks at times. They do have pre-made frozen meals if you are looking for that sort of thing *Cheese. wow! you have to try the honey goat cheese. At this time I saw it there for 1.99. A bargain you can't pass up on that kind of cheese. They have quite an extensive selection of wonderful cheeses. Also be sure to try the Aldis salsa. IT kicks A** *Wine and beer : not much to choose from, but the selection is pretty decent. I like the red winking owl. Nice and dry. Very similar to red 2 buck chuck Merlot *Chocolate: if you are craving chocolate, this is the place to go. It has much more interesting choices the usual grocery store. I like the chili dark chocolate and orange dark chocolate. Also any one that knows me, knows I am crazy nutty about chocolate covered marzipan. OMG! it is so cheap there! hmmm Maybe that is not such a Good thing. Cleanliness: the store is very clean as well as the parking lot. For a long time I was against Aldi simply because I was misinformed about what it really was. Once I finally gave in and went I was impressed. The store is tiny! However the produce are very fresh and the prices are very fair. I don't like how the cashiers throw the food into the cart when they are ringing you up but oh well they are very fast. This is a different experience than Kroger and Publix this is not a store you come to and slowly browse around. You get in move quickly and get out. The slow shoppers here get in the way and frankly there just isn't enough room for that kind of shopping. read more

Well I will admit I thought I was going to like it more than I did. PROS 1. I don't mind the quarter for the grocery cart. Smart idea. 2. Food prices were good and lower than my regular stop. 3. Fruits were ok and somewhat fresher than I expected. Grapes were great and good to find bananas. CONS 1. Setup of story is FUNKY. 2. No deli. 3. Meats looked a little squirly. 4. Store is very small, which wouldn't be bad if it was set up better. 5. Same or similar items at several locations in store. 6. Register, the person was awesome and ten times faster and harder working than anyone else I have seen, but I did have to wait a bit for her to get back. 7. Cola, ugh, very watered down. Message to ALDI owners.. WAKE UP. Your stores have a ton of potential, but you clearly don't utilize it. You already own or rent the locations, jack up the service a notch, reorganize, get a few more products in there and get 5 times as many customers. I can see an jam packed store, due to great cheap priodcuts, but what I see today is not even mediocre. read more

Aldi is an experience! I love getting sushi grade tuna and scallops in the frozen section, and they also have whole frozen Duck (not always, but it is hit or miss with that anywhere) The cheeses are great and the meat is good. Love shopping here. I can always find fun new products when I come since they have special buys that change each week. Try things when they have them because they may be gone the next time you come in. They get their items locally when possible which is great and they have organic options in produce and select other items. Bring a quarter to get your cart then get it back when you return the cart. Absolutely wonderful! Cheap prices for good quality. All of their brands are "store" brands and as mentioned in a previous review, there's little marketing and flair here. The cereal is better than name brand (at least the ones we've tried). The milk tastes good and is cheap. As a value-conscious consumer, we started visiting Aldi a while back. Our grocery bill went down by about $40 a week. Since then, we've stopped going there and started going to Walmart - the quality is lower there and the prices are higher (but not by much). When an Aldi opens up closer to our home, we'll go back - but I can't justify driving 20 miles round trip to get our groceries. Be sure to bring a quarter to get your shopping cart and expect to pay with cash or a debit card - no credit cards accepted. Bring your own bags too. read more

Negative reviews on Aldi, that are based on a comparison to large, national chain stores, is like a negative review for McDonald's on their filet mignon. A big store it is not. You will have to supplement your grocery shopping at other stores. I have no problem with this, because if I wanted to go to Walmart, I would. So disappointed. I had heard so many good things about aldi but I wasn't impressed. I had to rush to get there before 8 because they close earlier than the other grocery chains. I went through all the trouble to get the baby out of the car only to find the carts require a quarter deposit. I thought surely they must have an easy way to get change but there wasn't and long ling at the cashier and no hand baskets either. No staff in sight other than the busy cashiers. My reward for trying somewhere new was a mad screaming baby who had to go right back in her car seat and off to publix. Update: Second try, brought my quarter this time. Is there a way to give this place negative stars. Now I will say there were some good prices on a few staples but most prices were the same or more than other grocery chains store brands but I had a 10 off 40 so I grabbed some things and went for it. The store is very small and the quality of the produce and meats was not impressive and the prices were comparable to sales anywhere else. I get my things, get to the line and they don't accept credit cards. That is really something you should put in big bold letters in your ad. I only brought a credit card so I was out of luck. The cashier who appeared to be the only person working there said there was a sign at the door. There is a sign at the door but the no credit cards part is in white letters on a pale grey background so its almost impossible to see unless you are really looking for it. The prices really were not that great just but the sale items at Kroger and publix you will not spend any more money and get national brands and can use coupons. read more

I agree with what Ryan said. I would clarify one point. Even though you need a quarter to get a food cart, the quarter is returned when you return the cart. This is one of the cost saving moves used by Aldi since many shoppers otherwise would not return the cart where they got it. I also love the fact that at Christmas time they have lots of German made items that would cost you more at Trader Joe's or at Whole Paycheck. Aldi is my regular grocery store for the past two years. I maybe visit Kroger one or or twice a year now and Publix about three times a month for fresh bakery bread and Rx. I know I can get a lot of groceries for my money. Why pay more when you don't have to? Another thing. Aldi only takes cash or debit card. No credit card. You can get cash back on your debit, so that saves me a trip to the bank too. read more

Worst experience EVER! I went to Aldi hoping to save some money on the weekly grocery bill. I knew about the cart situation, so I was not surprised. However, after scouring around the store to get half a car full of food, I realized I had exactly that, a half a cart full of food and no meals. I didn't feel I could complete my shopping needs at this store. Not only that, the ALDI brands were like the off-brand of the off-brand. The meat, especially lunch meat, was not even Carl Buddig quality. I got in line and got so incensed I left the cart, wheeled it down the aisle, and walked out. So much for that quarter. Very affordable on milk, veggies and fruit. Yes, you have to pay .25 to get a cart. There are bootleg looking items I wouldn't dare purchase here. One of the main things I dont like about this particular location is the unfriendly cashiers and the lack of cashiers when it gets busy. It appears this is poorly managed at times. There is no excuse why 10 or more people should have to wait in line with only one cashier! The cashiers must be over worked cause they NEVER smile or even seem friendly. Rude staff. Not able to get the quarter out of cart while putting cart back. Also could not remove the cart back. Other stranger also tried it. Told employees and her behavior was that u are dumb and don't know shi*. She could not remove the quarter either but other Aldi customer was able to pull the cart out. Employee moved cart to other line and was able to free quarter. Also she said no need to be rude and I am still trying to figure out what I said made her feel like that. My first experience at Aldi was in Germany as I lived there for several years in the 90's. Europeans love Aldi and I came to love it too. The stores are set up exactly how they are in Germany. I agree with many of the comments. This is a cheap place to get staples like milk, eggs and produce at a fraction of the price of even Walmart. They have a growing number of organic products as well as European chocolate/candies, frozen foods and an ever-changing amount of dry goods in the middle of the store such as bath mats, plastic storage containers and small appliances. Don't forget to bring your refundable quarter for the rental of the grocery cart and your own grocery bags although theirs are just pennies each. read more

I love shopping at Aldi! Shopping at Aldi is very low stress and you can be in and out in a short time. They have very limited types of a product. Why do I need to look and decide between 50 brands of peanut butter or ranch dressing? Aldi carries just a couple of each and very good quality. Their private label is as good or better than name brand. Their produce deals are awesome. Yesterday they had Mangos for 59 cents a piece and avocados for 69 cents. Since I experienced ALDI stores in Germany I was quite shocked to find this tiny store with partially unpacked groceries. The stores in Germany were much bigger and better organized. The quarter to be paid for the cart does not bother me, one gets used to it and the carts get cleaned up. The prices for many items are much better than other stores, thinking of chocolate, wine, cookies, yogurt, milk, frozen veggies and some German products (not always available). Now my gripe: Every time I went the last few weeks, the store has no bags at the fruit and vegetable stand to buy loose fruit and veggies. Each time, I asked to have some put out, I am told that they have been ordered but not received. This has been going on for several weeks, I even had the manager called and got the same story that bags have been ordered but not received.. The cashier told me today that most people have no problems with this and bring their own bag, really? I told her that I do have a problem with this and if there are no bags at the stand, I just don't buy anything there. (not that the cashier will care). To me this is not a good business , by not providing the bags, the store is loosing business and profits, besides the fruit and veggies are getting spoiled. Apparently nobody cares??? read more

Aldi is a great store. They have many quality items that we use at a very good price. The store is clean and the folks are friendly. We are in and out within 25 minutes and on our way.
