The problem came when the IRS did not post my final payment. I received a bill from the IRS saying that I owed them over $2000. I sent the letter and the proof of payment to them and asked them what happened? They told me that I had to call the IRS to find out why they didn't post my payment. I even reverified that they were not going to make that call for me. My taxes are complicated, and I have had a CPA prepare my taxes and electronically file them every year for the past 30 years. Things like this don't happen often, but when they do THE CPA IS THE ONE WHO CALLS THE IRS ON MY BEHALF!! If there were an error on the preparation of the document, then I would have been at a loss to explain it. I ended up waiting on the phone for 4 hours and was able to get it straightened out myself. However, I am now looking for another accounting firm because this is not the level of service I require. At the same time, as I said, they prepared my taxes accurately, so I don't think it's fair to give them just one star. I'm not sure I would recommend them though, just based upon the fact that they aren't going to help you if anything goes wrong.

We had hired a different tax prep company, but in January 2019 we got a notice from them that they had outsourced a bunch of clients to Bill's company. By then I was wrapped up in a major project for a client, so I went with the recommendation. Let's start with our corporate taxes. I had our corporate taxes ready to go on January 23rd, 2019 and I added Sean from Bill's office to our QuickBooks account. I asked for status updates every couple of weeks and never got back a single email. Sean also never accepted the request from QuickBooks to be added to it, so I could see that nothing was being done. The first time I actually heard from Sean is after I called the company that I hired to find out what was going on, this was on April 8th. I heard from Sean twice that day and nothing else. We had several payments that clients had made for work that hadn't been started yet, so we needed to make sure that income was deferred corrected into 2019. I sent that information to Bill multiple times and he never seemed to understand what he needed to do with this information. Our business taxes were eventually done on April 14th after many phone calls and emails to get status updates. I had to assume they were done correctly, as there was no time to double check the work. On our personal taxes; our information was gathered up and sent over on March 8th, 2019. As we had 73 files which had a total size of 36 Megs, I couldn't email the data over, so I uploaded the information to One Drive and had One Drive create a link for the folder, which I sent over to Sean (from Bill's team). Again, I heard nothing when I asked for status updates. When we finally got an email from Bill about what was going on (this was April 8th) the email made it seem like it was doing up a favor by doing our taxes (and that he wouldn't be doing them until April 13th when he was done with his clients that came to his office). We had sent in all the relevant information months before, but his apparent lack of time management meant that our taxes never got done. Bill never figured out how to click on the link that I put in the email to the tax information. At least I must assume that was the problem, as Bill never bothered to tell me why we couldn't download the files that I uploaded for him. On April 12th he told me that I needed to upload the files to his file transfer app. I was using a restaurants Wi-Fi (as I had work to do that day since I wasn't planning on spending the entire day dealing with my taxes) and I kept getting errors from the website that Bill had sent over. The tax firm that I hired in the first place ended up downloaded the files from One Drive and uploaded them via Bill's site since Bill could download the files himself. The week leading up to Tax Day, Bill kept trying to talk us into filing an extension, because I assume he didn't want to do our taxes before April 15th. We kept telling him that an extension wasn't an acceptable option because we had no idea what the estimates where going to be because of all the changes with the tax laws. Like our business taxes, our personal taxes were done on April 14th. I again had to assume they were done correctly, as I didn't have time to sit down and review everything. Having someone do your taxes is supposed to take the stress away from you when it comes to this process. Bill completely failed at this. My stress level went up dramatically, and I have zero confidence that my taxes were done correctly. I would have had less stress if I had simply done them myself, but I didn't have the time which is why I hired someone to do them for me. I'm at the point where I'm going to pay someone else to do them again and file an addendum if/when the taxes that Bill and his team did are wrong. If I had the time, I would have sat in Bill's office and supervised him doing my taxes, but I thought I had a professional doing my taxes; I was wrong. Needless to say, I will never have Bill or Sean ever work on my taxes again; and I'll never hire them to handle any aspect of anything ever again. I've never worked with anyone with such poor time management skills, such poor communications skills, or such an inability to use basic computer skills such as sending an email (emails have subject lines for a reason, any email thread that Bill started has a blank subject line, so I have no idea what emails and responses are to what). I wouldn't trust Bill or Sean with counting the change in a piggy bank much less our taxes which come with legal risk associated with them if they are wrong. If I had known there was an issue in March, I would have simply found another person to handle our taxes. But because I let things go until it was too late, I had no choice but to pay to have work done, which I need to pay to have redone.
