Why anybody would shop here is absolutely beyond my realm of understanding. I used to shop here back before the fire and I loved it back then. Went in today and asked them if they could cut a premade sandwich in half for me. She took the sandwich and told me she had to go find out. 3 1/2 minutes later, she came back to tell me that she could not cut the sandwich in half. I walked out and will never go back in there again. Absolutely absurd what the hell has become a Port Townsend. So sad! read more

This is a lovely store with lots of different and unique choices. I stopped in while visiting PT recently and enjoyed sitting in the quiet upstairs area with my coffee one morning. Nice fruit and vegetable selection. I was a bit unsettled that a staff member seemed to be following me as if to "keep an eye on me" as if I were a shoplifter, but I did have a backpack and I know small businesses suffer from that problem a lot, so there's that. Overall, it is nice to see that this store with a history is up and running in Port Townsend and apparently thriving. read more

This is a great market in town with street parking. They have groceries, premade food, gifts, some clothing, a coffee shop, and a bookstore upstairs. A little bit of everything. Some premade items I tried. The sesame noodles were good. I got this near store closing and the noodles were not soggy but had a great texture. The tuna fish was good. It had a good crunch from the celery and onion. Also tried a locally made ice cream - mint chocolate chip. I highly recommend though I'm sad that I cannot remember the name. This market is so charming. This is our second visit there and it's only gotten better. They have a beautiful grocery section with unique frozen foods, cool wines and perhaps the best ice cream sandwich I've ever had: soft lemon cookies and lavender ice cream. They have some beautiful small brand products (especially the blankets pictured) and a coffee bar. The upstairs has a few small shops that were closed when we were there and a stunning alpine balcony where you can eat your ice cream sandwich. read more

A great place for high quality, and high-end, food and gifts. Went to this place a couple times while visiting Port Townsend, and had everything we needed and more. Some of just about everything, and the people are so nice! They even have a little sushi counter in the back and hot food/miso soup as well. Great wine selection and so many meats, cheeses and about 100 chocolate bars, lol. Looks like a little coffee and cafe to go too. It's a really cute store and just a fun place to even browse if not going with a list in mind. As they have local gifts, I think mentioned that, lol. read more

I stepped into Aldrich and was warmly greeted by the scent of breakfast and coffee. I did a lap around before making any decisions. I got a breakfast sausage sandwich which was pre-prepared and on a warming table towards the back. I also tried an interesting chocolate from Singapore that is "Salted Egg Cereal." It was delightful with many layers of texture and flavor. I ended with a soy latte and friendly conversation with the barista! As I was exiting I noticed they had an upstairs seating area with beautiful art by Diane Wheatley. Deep and vibrant works of floral art were the perfect company for my morning breakfast. read more

This is the cutest spot a little off the beaten path in Port Townsend! I was looking for coffee and the folks at the bakery down the street directed me here. Once inside, I was pleasantly surprised to find not only a coffee setup, but lots of goodies like wine, snacks, and trinkets like jewelry. The space is homey and welcoming, with a spacious mezzanine upstairs where you can enjoy your coffee, a snack, and a relaxing respite. The groceries and sundry items were fun to peruse and I found loads of things that caught my eye. This charming little spot is more than the sum of its parts. read more

It's an interesting niche they're going for - there's a lot of snack and lunch options, along with a solid little cafe and a pricey sushi shop. Along with the souvenirs up front it's clear that it's not really trying to compete with the co-op (actually local produce etc) or Safeway (cheaper wider range of items), which is probably a smart choice. There is a decent selection of "gourmet" style sauces and other cooking ingredients you can't get elsewhere, and an interesting selection of frozen items. Prices on many things are really inflated, it does really feel like a store for tourists in uptown or wealthy retirees, but it's working for them. The space upstairs with tables is a bit bare bones, but well used by the community with reading groups, chess clubs, and TTRPG / DND groups using the space. read more

Came by here about a month ago. Fun little space. Cool to see it still going given its history. A bit on the pricy side. Wasn't really impressed by any of their grab'n'go food but I appreciate them trying - seeing a sushi section of a grocery store not filled with dry, unpleasant AFC stuff was cool. The sauerkraut they used on their Reuben was a little overpowering, kinda sour, making the overall taste of the sandwich not that great. Definitely filling though. As for the sushi, the roll I got had way more of what seemed to be a generic sweet and sour sauce on it than I realized, which was pretty disappointing. The filling still had a nice crispy consistency but it was hard to taste under all the sweet and sour + kewpie. Still better than most grocery store sushi I've had. Mini Banana cream pie was a little too simple, the crust wasn't great and the banana flavor tasted a little artificial. Probably wouldn't get any of those things again, especially not desserts if I came again, but if I'm in the neighborhood it'd probably be fun to come back and try something else. read more

Very dismissive and rude helpers too. I Asked if they had any other bottled water sizes and was asked why? A tall blond guy and short dark haired man. They both felt it was funny that I wanted smaller bottled water. They were distracted with each other. I've been coming to Aldriches since the early 70's. First bad experience. This store is one of the best things in Port Townsend. The coffee is good and inexpensive, the seedy bread is fresh and the same price as Safeway, they have good ice cream and popsicles, and one day I found candy expresso beans in the candy section that were sooo good. For Christmas I noticed they had high quality knit cardigan sweaters fairly priced. Everyone who works here is so courteous and friendly. I love going in here. They have doggie biscuits outside for the pups! I was fascinated to find out how long this store has been in Port Townsend. The original store burned down and this one was built to carry on. Aldrich's is my neighborhood go-to for last-minute ingredients, morning coffee runs, and desserts/snacks. I really adore this place. They have a lot of hard-to-find specialty and gourmet items, organic produce, fun and kitschy gifts, good espresso, friendly and funny staff, and a great place to sit upstairs to get work done. It's everything I want in a neighborhood cafe/grocer. The prices are definitely high, but they do have a discount rack and discount produce. Local items are priced on par with what you'd find at the PT Co-op. read more

This place usually disappoints. Not a place you can run to and grab what you need because they don't have much in the way of basics and if they do have it, usually overpriced. They have a lot of gourmet items and if you don't mind paying a lot, it is good for that. I use to go to Aldriches to get in a Christmas mood, but now it just feels like some posh boutique store like in Martha's Vineyard or Carmel. The woman working on the night we went to grab some drinks and snacks for our girls trip was so nice. I love all their specialty gifts and food. I am not sure if this is really an ideal spot for "all the time" grocery shopping, but for me it would be perfect for visiting from out of town or for a special dinner/splurge. We had visited the Aldrich Market a few years ago and I remember my sandwich being very good, so when we returned to Port Townsend this is the first place I wanted to visit, we were hungry when we departed from the ferry. Aldrich Market isn't right in the middle of the busy section of Port Townsend, we had to walk a few blocks, which was nice, because Port Townsend is a delight to walk around in, the residential neighborhoods are so charming. I ordered the Pesto Chicken Sandwich and I have to say that this was the best sandwich I have had in a long long time. They made if fresh for me, and I didn't want the onions. We sat outside on the nice bench they have by the front door, is was nice to get away from the very busy section of town. I will return to Aldrich's for sure the next time I visit Port Townsend, this is a far better place to have lunch than any of the deli's we have tried in the busy section of town. Food is always delicious, there's something for everyone, sweet, treats, produce, savory, lunch, coffee, grocery items and plentiful picnic supplies. The higher price is to be expected and worth it for the most part. However, I am not too keen on spending my time and money in a place that has over the top rude, snarky and snotty employees. Not super fun to fork over extra cash to be treated badly by the employees. Sometimes the cashiers don't even say a word when checking me out, which is sort of creepy. I moved just down the street recently and thought I'd be there frequently, but in the 4 or 5 times I've been, staff has been rather cold - the last downright rude. Not what I'd expect for Port Townsend or a small market.. in fact that's the only place in town I've run into someone like that. I only asked a question, and very politely, and was given a dirty look and told in a sarcastic tone, "I have no idea." Ignore all of the reviews below, which are ancient history. Aldrich's reopened under new management on October 7, 2020, after being closed six months, and the new market was worth the wait. The family that now operates it are wonderful people who have made Aldrich's a fun and happy experience again. The fresh-baked pastries are spectacular, as is the fresh sushi at the sushi bar in the back. There are wonderful salads, sandwiches and soups. Everything is takeout now, because of Covid, but there are tables and chairs upstairs in the mezzanine and on the outside deck accessed from the mezzanine and there are three picnic tables in the park across the street. read more

We have used Aldrich's as a meeting place for our team several times. We have been loyal customers. However, after our most recent experience, we feel shafted and unwelcome. Moreover, the owner made an excuse that patrons have complained about our presence, however, in investigating further, we discovered the was not the case and the owner was just displeased with our movement of a table to accomodate our team meeting. As patrons of Aldrich's, we feel that the owner was particluarly rude and unwelcoming, as we had intended to eat and enjoy lunch from their mediocre and elevated food and coffee menu. This was a distasteful experience and we are not sure we will be returning in the future, unless we are reciporated with welcome about utilzing the cafe space upstairs without reservation. Moreover, there should be disclosure posted that you are not permitted to sit and "loiter" in their cafe space for longer than a certain amount of time, unless you are planning to purchase something (in which we do EVERY TIME). We will be sure to inform others, who want to use the space for various lunch meetings, to look elsewhere. We will be sure to boycott Aldrich's until this is rectified and we, as community members, feel welcome in a space that is meant for meetings. read more

Aldrich's has been around for decades. The Pre-Fire Aldrich's wasn't so fancy, and carried a much different array of products. Today, it's hip and a little too pricey, but it carries delectable cheeses, fresh artisan breads, unique dipping sauces, hard-to-find microbrews, and more. (If you spend any time in PT at all, you'll see that it seems to fit.) My mom worked here in her late teens, so to her, it's not as charming as it once was. However, if you're looking for a unique treat on your way to the park, stop in and treat yourself. read more
