Got in touch with Jennifer on Friday morning to see how quickly we could get my son in for his road test. Surprisingly they had a spot Sunday morning and were willing to get us in. Because I was traveling I was only able to communicate by text and she was professional and very thorough even though it was awkward. Showed up and met her in person and I must say that she was super nice for it being 6:45 am on Sunday morning. She let us know that we would be testing with her dad, Keith. No problem as I read the other reviews and felt we were in good hands. To my horror the gas light came on while we were waiting. I told Keith and he said they could stop and put in $5.00 with, just in case. Super nice and a great experience for my son to practice filling the car. Over the top customer service and accommodation for my ding bat mistake. I did not go with them on the test as I am a phantom break pedal stomper and make my son nervous. He reported that Keith was very patient and put him as much at ease as he could be. He said he was not gruff, grumpy,or bossy but offered helpful suggestions in a teaching way, not just barking out directions or criticism. As I was waiting at the school I observed Jennifer also being very supportive and excited for the people that were testing with her. I wish I had researched driving school companies more for his level 1 & 2 classes. I feel like these two would have made it a positive experience and it would not have taken over a year for my son to get the confidence to take the road test. We used Alert Driving School for my daughter's drivers test. We knew families that had used this testing service and had good experiences with Keith and Andy as instructors. The person performing the test for my daughter was Dan (a Teenager which was a bit surprising) and was very unclear with his instructions to her.(and later to me.) The directions he gave to her and later myself in regard to how often you are allowed to readjust position during the parking portion were incredibly confusing and also misleading. He said several times that "the driver is allowed to pull forward as many times as they want, to readjust." And it wasn't until the third time he was explaining that I stopped and said you keep saying it's allowed, then why did she get points? He said "Oh you're allowed but you get points every time you do it." So he told her she was allowed to adjust as much as she wanted but did not make it clear she would be marked for each time. He also told her several times she could ask any questions she wanted and as many questions as she wanted but then said in response to her questions "The State doesn't allow me to answer that question." read more

Worst experience I ever could have have, do no recommend at all. Awful never go here, Dan is the rudest and the worst person and road test guy ever, told me I had to brake earlier because he is stressed out and anxious. It's not my fault you're a weirdo and if you are like that you shouldn't be a road test person. Not sure how the other people are, but Dan needs to be let go or something, because he was looking to fail me, calling out every little thing because he's the one stressed out when nothing was going to happen. My drive was completely good he just decided to tell me that I didn't look left and right enough when I had a green light, like not sure how he got certified to do this, awful person, never go here. Dont Go here at any cost, if you think you have to, avoid it just go to another testing place, Dan will fail you, he is a bad driver and a rude person. 0 stars if I could, if you for some dumb reason go here and get Dan just quit the road test to same time. He will fail you for no reason, awful awful awful place. Oh and I asked the speed limit one time because there was construction and dude got mad at me. Dan sucks and looking at other reviews he has a history of sucking, so just avoid this place don't go here at all. Unless you call Keith and do it with him because he seems nice in the reviews, but Dan ahhahah he's a kid and is rude, doesn't help the stress of taking a drivers test, and makes it worse by putting his hand on the dashboard like what, so rude. Avoid this testing site. It operates out of a church parking lot with no real office or indoor waiting area, yet gives the public the impression that it's an official facility. Customers are told to wait outside in cold weather, and staff often arrive late with poor communication. The operation appears disorganized, cash-based, and lacking transparency about fees, refund policies, or testing requirements. No receipts or written documentation are provided, raising serious questions about accountability and professionalism. And good luck trying to reach them -- they rarely answer the phone or return calls. There are several better testing locations nearby (Royal Oak, Southfield, Troy) that are properly staffed, responsive, and provide a professional testing environment. Until this site improves, it's best to go elsewhere. read more

Excellent place to have your teen tested. My daughter was originally to be tested on a Sunday, but Keith called and asked if we could come in Saturday due to a pending storm. That was much appreciated. My daughter ended up testing with Andy - who was beyond accommodating and kind. He did a great job of explaining everything and gave my teen a lot of useful feedback. Well, the first thing I do not like about alert driving is the fact that they do not provide the cost of the program before you enroll for their 30 minutes orientation which costs $175.00 and does not count towards your program credits...you do not get refunded if you are not satisfied with the orientation and do not want to pursue further. If I could give no stars, I would. I signed my daughter up for a road test. We showed up with all the necessary documentation and were turned away because we could not present a paper copy of her drivers permit. We were also charged a $40 improper documentation fee if $40. The Michigan SOS does not issue a paper drivers permit anymore, they issue a plastic GDL. Mr Lee would not accept this as proof (a plastic license, issued by the state) and would not allow her to test. This guy won't even return my phone calls and refuses to give her priority for rescheduling. Everyone says he's great - but he can't be bothered to stay informed of changes at the state level and unfairly denied my daughter the right to test. She had to wait almost a full 3 weeks to get in elsewhere to test. He's a jerk. read more

Taking the driving test is so stressful but Keith brings a sense of calmness to the entire experience. He explains things very clearly and gives them great direction. He has amazing insight as to what the kids are thinking and why they do the things they do which in turn enables him to give excellent feedback at the end of the test. As a parent, I have sat in on three tests with him so far and have learned so much each time. First I need to mention that all previous comments were right,! This is an excellent choice for a driving school. I went with my wife to take our practice test in order to get our USA driving license. Both Jennifer and Keith were very professional, they give us confidence in our driving skills, and at the end of the test they gave us some personal recommendation about our driving habits (Mexico). Also they kindly rent their car for the test because of insurance constrains with our car. As a foreign Resident in Michigan, with a bit of language constrains, I will encourage the use of this school to learn and to request a driving test. I chose to take my road test with Alert because although there were testers closer to me, I read favorable reviews about Alert. I agree with some of the other reviews that communication was not the most straight forward email wise. The first time I went I scheduled with Keith through email and that I would be getting my road test done at 2 pm (it was not on the sign up page). I was unsure that I would even be taking my test because he did not reply and I did not get a confirmation. Once I got there at 1:50 I noticed that another person was there ready to test and she told me that she was scheduled to go at 1 and had not even started yet. I decided to reschedule for the following week because I did not want to wait for her to finish her test. The following week I came back and made sure to sign up for a morning time to prevent any delays. I arrived 20 minutes late this time due to heavy traffic but Keith was very understanding and we got started. He was patient and helped me relax and better understand what I needed to work and gave good feedback afterwards. Despite the previous difficulties, the test went smoothly and I recommend going to Alert for your test. read more

My daughter signed up to take the road test for 5/20/2018. We received notice that the time was good and the next day we got a message stating that the date was moved out 2 weeks due to the freeway being closed. She was very upset as you can imagine a 16 year old would. I told her to wait and we practiced for two more weeks. our day finally came and we went to the location at 1:45 pm to do some more final practice. When we arrived we noticed the girl that was scheduled for 1:30 was still there with no instructor. Both girls started to call and email the instructor with no response. After about 30 minutes the student for the 2:30 time slot showed up. That mother was very upset that there was no call, text or email about the appointment being cancelled. the first girl left after being there over 1 1/2 hours, myself and the second girl left at 3pm still with no call, text or email about the appointment. This is very disappointing that this business has been around so long and they could not even notify us that there was an issue. I hope the instructor and all that work at that company are ok but I WILL NOT ever suggest that people use this company for anything. James K. read more

This guy is a total unprofessional jerk who does not know the requirements for his own business. Mr Lee turned my daughter and husband away for our long-awaited road test appointment and charged $40 for improper documentation because we did not have a paper drivers permit, just her GDL (plastic card). According to the Secretary of State, as of March 16, 2021, a permit is no longer issued, a level 1 GDL is issued. Upon returning home, my husband contacted Mr. Lee and pointed out that the state no longer issues a paper permit. Checking with other driving schools, they all require the GDL level 1 license to road test. Seriously - your job is to know the requirements and the changes when your job is as a driving instructor. Furthermore, he was rude, refused to admit his mistake, would not fit my daughter in for her cancelled road test and would not refund the $40. If I could give him no stars, I would. Don't take a chance that you will wait weeks for an appointment with this guy and then be turned away because he doesn't know the new rules. THE WORST!!!!!!! read more

I got in touch with this company over a month ago to schedule driving lessons as I saw they had great yelp reviews. As an adult looking for private lessons it was great that they said they were able to pick me up and drop me off at home for the lessons. I receive multiple confirmation emails with my lesson information and confirming the time and instructing me to text the owner, Keith Lee with my pick up/drop off address. I texted him the night before my lesson was schedule with the information and never got a text back, and I chalked it up to the fact that if they run their business this way they likely won't text back every client after they send information. I was supposed to have my lesson yesterday at 12:30 pm. Keith NEVER SHOWED. I called him twice and left a voicemail after it seemed he was running late, but he still never showed. It has been over 24 hours since I left him a voicemail with all of my contact info and still no one has reached out to me. This is a shameful way to run a business. I had to take time off of work to fit this lesson into my schedule and for what? Just a no show business. I would never ever recommend this company to anyone. read more

Signed up for a private lesson via sign up genius, texted my information as requested and also left a voicemail. Keith was a no show on lesson day. Keith didn't follow up with call or text either to say he was cancelling. My son did some of his training with Kevin Lee at Alert who was great, he took his driving test yesterday with Kieth Lee who could not have been better. Keith made him feel comfortable and at ease while at the same time being extremely thorough. I was recommended to them by a friend. My friend took it with an instructor that no longer works fo them/ evaluates drivers tests. I had to "rent" on of there vehicles. I arrived earlier then the required time to insure that every thing would go smoothly. When I go there he was about to take a student on he road so I took that time to examine his car which was filthy internally he had actually bunches of bananas lying around his car and the back seat was cluttered as well as had about 2 medium sized coolers and some lunch box coolers. Mind you this was a hot day and it was 4:30/5:00pm so those bananas were probably sitting out in the car for hours.( when in the car and it smelled awfully strong) so when he came back I gave him my money and he went to his car for about 15-20 minutes to "straighten out his car" When I walked up to him I had my ID and permit in hand and he told me I wouldn't need it. (Pretty sure I'm not allowed on the road in any circumstance without them. I asked if I could familiarize my self with his car and he said "this is how you get familiar, get in" so I had to get in a car that IV NEVER DRIVEN and was expected to complete this test. The cars I had practiced on all had the flat trunks where the rewindow was the very back of the car. Where as his car had one of the trunks that extends out about 2 feet. Proving to be very difficult for me to even back in to a space or parallel park. Frankly I believe this was unfair. Because I know how to control a car and if when I practiced on my own I didn't need to calculate an extra 2-2 and a half feet and then now having to figure that out with no prior practice. Is pretty much unfair I failed that test and he had the audacity to tell me what I did "wrong" and the things he said I did "wrong" I wouldn't have had a problem with it was my own car or if he had at the very least let me figure out how to controls his vehicle for myself. Frankly Renting his car was a huge mistake and my money and time was wasted by this awful "instructor". I absolutely will never EVER take my test with them or give them any recommendations. This was an absolutely awful experience. And I feel like I've been stolen from. I'd honestly give ZERO stars if I could! read more
