When I met with Angela in-person for the estimate, I had a good vibe about her. She had a nice personality - polite, kind, approachable, honest, and trustworthy. I instantly knew that she was a responsible contractor who I could trust and had a feeling I would pick her to do the renovation. I asked her to give me a few quotes (for paintings only and for the whole apartment). Her quotes were very reasonable, her company had great reviews, and the pictures of their previous work looked great. So, I hired her to renovate my whole 1BR apartment (including the closets). Prior to the renovations, my co-op required owners to provide licenses for any work that needs to be done (electric & plumbing) in my apartment. Because of this requirement, Angela had to subcontract third parties for a licensed electrician and plumber. The licensed plumber wanted a deposit, 30% in advance, for giving their licensed certification copy and information to my Co-op Board for the renovation application. I paid the 30% deposit in advance to Angela because I knew I could trust her. One of my friends criticized me for doing so. He told me, "How could you give the 30% deposit money to a random contractor that you found online when you didn't know your Co-op Board would approve your application or not?" The team was very friendly, polite, easy to work with, creative, and performed really well. They were very responsible and acted quickly to address any issues and made sure they were all taken care of. They went above and beyond. We had a problem with the vanity because the legs were too high. As a result, the back side of the vanity had to be cut off (by a lot) to accommodate the P-Trap. I didn't want that to happen because the P-Trap would be visible from underneath. We thought of the idea to get shorter legs, and they came out beautifully. No one will be able to see any plumbing/P-Trap protruding underneath the walls unless you open the vanity's doors. We also had an issue with one of the light switches in the kitchen. One of the kitchen walls (all my walls are concrete) was uneven by a lot. After Wilmar & his team made the wall even, the original position of the light switch became inside the wall. Wilmar was able to re-position the switch to level with the wall. My co-op building was very strict and gave us a hard time. Angela and her team quickly addressed the building complaints and made sure they were satisfied. I highly recommend Anchor Painting and Renovations for your painting and renovation jobs. I referred the team to one of my friends right after I hired them (even before the job was started). My friend told me that he was also very happy with their work. One of my coworkers said my apartment looked amazing. She was planning to renovate her bathroom. I didn't hesitate to recommend Angela to her. Regarding the work itself, it was to replace 2 wood window sills. On their second attempt, the job was completed and is OK. I think it could have been quite a bit better, but it's passable. Hopefully, it will hold up.  It would have been very helpful if Angela had been on site at the start of the job to give direction to the workmen.  Instead, my building's super guided them in Spanish how to cut the wood so it would fit the space, otherwise they were well on their way to installing it wrongly, like the first time. The workmen should have used better painting tape as there is paint all over my metal window frames, and sanded the wood edges more smoothly.  (The edges are quite rough to the touch as if they will snag clothing if one gets close). However, it is an improvement over what was there before.

We had ugly linoleum stairs with metal flashing, and some of the tiles were falling apart. We replaced them with hardwood floors which look beautiful. They worked neatly and ensured that we could still access the basement in the evening. We liked the work so much that we will hire them for at least two more projects this fall.

I borrowed some alternatives, but these guys were receptive and the price they offered appeared reasonable to what had to be done. I simply needed someone who would get in and get it done without it becoming a headache. The man appeared punctually and immediately proceeded to the wallpaper installation. He made a good job of it about the door frames and the ceiling line, particularly as my ceiling is dark and any mess would have been very noticeable. No strange gaps or glue spots are left behind. The new pattern has made the room look much better--it was a good improvement without having to do the entire room. He also ensured that he cleaned up after himself, and I did not have to clean up any scraps or trash on the floor. The process was easy throughout and I am pleased with the way the wall has turned out.

This top dollar company did the outside work on my row house in Park Slope. We had the place…read morerebuilt and sided and we put a decorative cap at the top of the building. This is the work they do slowly (5 months to being really done), at their convenience, but they do exterior work well. The problem came with the interior work. I asked to have a built in cabinet/bookcase built over one wall. The owner did not remember that I insisted I wanted the piece built out of solid wood, birch to be exact, and painted. Whenever you want painted wood you need to specify that it must be wood or many companies will cut corners. We wanted doors to hide the TV to fold back into the unit. When the piece came the doors could not be installed that way because the depth was wrong on the piece. The entire thing was built out of some crap pressed cardboard product which stunk of formaldehyde and fifty other chemicals - which was exactly what I wanted to avoid since we had two babies in the house. They charged $2500, needed up front, of course. Now, three years later that piece is bubbling from where drinks have been put down on it and since it's cardboard it can't be repaired. We would have had them remove it the day it arrived but after five months of construction on a job that should have taken one month we wanted to get our house back. They also lost the handles for four of the six windows we had installed and also lost the screen to a custom window. It took weeks to convince them that they lost it and that we need the screen and then weeks to get it delivered. Never again inside the house, but for exterior work on a row house - which is tricky business - they were better than the other options. Be prepared to stay on top of them and call when they vanish for a week or two with your house covered in plywood.

Due to all the necessary repairs, they were here for 14 days. Each day they were on time, put in a good day's work, and were polite, cheerful, and honest. I've found that a lot of painters like to work with Benjamin Moore paint. I have a thing about Farrow and Ball, and they worked with it, without complaint. Roberto was exceptionally quick about getting me all the necessary paperwork for the co-op approval, and I was able to get it signed off on just about instantaneously. Highly recommended.

His estimate was reasonable for the amount of work to be done and very competitive with estimates I had already received from five other contractors. Andrew and his assistant Matt took about two days to transform my kitchen into something really sharp. Andrew was very thorough and even took care of some odds and ends that were left by the builder (and previous contractor who installed the counter top). Also, Andrew was very neat - he covered the counter top to avoid any damage or stains and swept the floor after both days of working. After they left, you would never know that two people were sawing tiles and working with grout and tile adhesive all day. I wouldn't hesitate to book Andrew for any other jobs I need done around the apartment. It was a five-star experience from start to finish and I'm glad I found the Handy Andy Squad.
