Located in a nondescript parking lot in Alief, this taco truck is situated next to sister truck (#1) and is the destination for many locals in the know in the wee hours of the night. The protocol here is to order (quickly) at the truck window and then wait in the car while their team handles the order. The menu is extremely reminiscent of so many Houston $1 taqueria trucks, which have the usual smaller, two-biter taquitos but a myriad of other items that include "cryspy tacos" (#2), gringas, piratas, and somewhat obscure items like Tony's burger, gypsy burritos, zuzu tacos, luvacy burritos, and "michelle burguer." (#3) Side note: I do not recommend their Colombian hot dog. The meats here range from the typical fajita, pollo, and pastor along with chorizo, campechano, barbacoa, tripa, and chicharron. For non-taco fans, there are also sopes, quesadillas, burritos, tortas, tostadas, gorditas, and even huaraches available. The tacos are surely their top seller and the corn tortillas are the way to go. In terms of seasoning, the fajita is on point. I appreciate the fatty texture of the chicharron and the greasy goodness of the barbacoa. The salsa is strictly self serve on the counter and the charro beans are a nice touch. The usual outdoor taqueria rules also apply here: speak Spanish, have cash, and eat the food while it's fresh. It's the ideal complement for anything they serve. I have found success in their fatty barbacoa, solid campechano, and decent fajita. I would say no to their chicharron, which reminds me of the Guatemalan taco trucks with the charred meats, and the al pastor has a little too much food color dye. Ordered a barbacoa pack (1lb) from Doordash for pickup. After 45 minutes , there were no updates…read moreleading me to call and check on my order. After another 15 minutes, my order was ready for pickup, only to notice the packaging was smaller and significantly weighed less than normal. To ensure I wasn't loosing my sanity, I weighed it only to find out it weighed 12 oz in the container & LESS than 12 oz out of the container. Returning to the restaurant and informing the staff, they immediately pushed back and indicated the container was a 16oz container. I indicated to them I had weighed it at home and it was in fact less than 12 oz - causing the cashier and another staff member to looked shocked that I confirmed it was less than 12 oz. The cashier then responded " a pound is 12 oz." and I corrected her and said it was in fact 16 oz. The owner than proceeded to come and again, indicated it was an 16oz container and I once again informed him that I had weighed it at home & the contents themselves were less than 12 oz. He proceeded to talk to his staff in the back & took our container into the kitchen, and weighed it himself & then proceeded to resolve the issue. He then indicated that his staff is "eyeballing it and not using the scale" & that I was looking at him " as if I cheated you". Needless to say - I will NOT be returning to this establishment. Not only was my concern given push back multiple times, including the owner, but the lame excuse of having a scale & NOT USING IT, staff incorrectly stating a 1lb was 12 oz , and the comment from the owner was highly unprofessional. A message to the owner : 1. Please educate your staff how much a pound is. If I am going to be corrected matter of factly, it better be a correct statement. Also, rather than immediately be corrected, they should hear our customers concerns and check themselves on the issue to ensure they are aware of the situation BEFORE pushing back or offering a resolution. 2. If you have a scale - Use it. This was a sloppy mistake & an even sloppier excuse for the discrepancy. 3. Take ownership for your mistake instead of redirecting it to your customers. I didn't look at you "as if" you cheated me, I looked at you because YOU did cheat me, intentionally or unintentionally, and then gave me a sloppy excuse. If you have a scale, EVERY single package should be weighed before it is served, even IF the container itself is marked 16 oz, that doesn't automatically mean the contents are equal to that upon filling it. I am very disappointed that this was the service I received & deeply offended by the sloppy excuses provided for a product I already paid for. Further, it is deeply offensive to customers to have a sloppy operational process and then try to make them seem like the bad person in this situation when they in fact aren't getting what they already paid for. This was shady business practice & you should feel shameful for treating your community like this.

A late night recommendation from a local friend, I come here whenever I want to avoid the crowds from the more popular streetside taquerias in the neighborhood. Had I written about them last year, it would have been an easy 5 star but a series of recent mishaps have left me wanting more. In short, the tacos are good, but always inspect the order prior to leaving. Unlike other trucks that have lights, music, and a lively atmosphere, Tacos Roque is far more sleepy and I sometimes question whether or not they're open at all. The menu is laid across their red truck in both Spanish and English, but yet only the breakfast tacos are the ones with prices while the rest remain a mystery (#1) for the average first timer. The breakfast tacos aren't available at night, but the rest of their line up which features a number of things from gorditas to huaraches to machetes are often available. I like to keep it simple and stick to tacos and any available meats. Unlike many of the other taco trucks, they actually refer to their beef as asada (#2). Asada along with pollo (chicken) and pastor (marinated pork) are almost always available. Their chicharron, barbacoa are the more premium options at $3 each but are extremely tasty. I also hold their bistec, tripa and chorizo in high regard as well and I appreciate how tender all of the options are. I have deviated from tacos a handful of times to get their hamburguesa roque, along with their papas con queso y carne (a Mexican baked potato), a cheetos elote en vaso, as well as their tortas (chilanga + cubana). I can't say that I love them much, but I will give the nod to their pambazos, sincronizadas, and quesadillas as other heartier options worth considering. The staff is usually a two man crew from a guy with a distinctive voice who is often on the phone handling orders and handling money. This is a cash only truck the last time I checked and parking is going to be all over the place. Spanish is the preferred language here, but I think they should be fine with English orders. My recent outings here have been marred with missing items more often than not, which has been a real bummer since the staff has denied refunds / make-up items in the past.
