I worked with Doctor Rader years ago fora long time and I can say that no other doctor can do the quality of care he does. He diagnoses conservatively for the benefit of the patient. The care he provides lasts for years and his detail work is phenomenal. My mom came in for an implant after having years of dental anxiety and to this day, still says how surprised she was on how easy it was. She very particular on how much she enjoyed the office and the other staff there. She said she didn't even feel the numbing needle. I really enjoyed my time there and still recommend him to anyone. Dr. Rader is fantastic. I'd describe his practice/approach as modern, thorough, efficient and kind. My orthodontist actually recommended him when I said I was concerned my current dentist wasn't using modern imaging equipment. (I also didn't want to go somewhere that would pressure me on cosmetic work, etc.) Dr Rader did find issues that should have been caught much earlier and quickly got me in for needed treatments to prevent further damage. They have equipment in-house that allows them to address care that usually requires multiple visits in just one. The staff and overall office vibe is organized and supportive. I just switched to Dr. Rader about a year ago & ive been absolutely blown away by my experiences! He uses the most up to date, cutting edge technology-things I didn't even know existed!! And he's very skilled & always checks in to make sure I'm comfortable. Due to my fibromyalgia, my mouth is very sensitive. I especially hate the drilling. So when I went in for my first filling with him I was super nervous. I was SHOCKED & PLEASED to learn that he didn't have to drill!! Instead, he used LASERS . He DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO NUMB ME!! NO SHOTS!! The whole appointment took a little over a half hour, and it was literally the most pleasant dental experience I've ever had. Obviously he can be busy and there have been a few instances of miscommunication in the office, so I wouldn't say the organization is perfect there but everyone there does their job well, is friendly and attentive. Found doc Rader based on some recommendations in our community. Can't say if he's a good doc or nor but my experience was far from the best. Don't like to write a bad review, I got two messages asking me to confirm the appointment with doctor Rader, which I both confirmed. Today is the day of the appointment and which was supposed to be at 8:30 am, I waited for this appointment for a while. they called me at 7:46 am and said the doc has a severe pain and will not be in the office. I asked when I can reschedule they said in a month again! Which I was waiting more then that already. Dr. Rader and his staff are simply the BEST and I ought to know. After 5 years of searching for a dentist I could trust, I was referred by a colleague to Dr. Rader in Walnut Creek. I had poorly done veneers that I wanted replaced. I had seen several dentists and either didn't agree with their approach (replace veneers with porcelain fused metal crowns) or intuitively, I didn't trust them. The replacements had to be an improvement and teeth I could live in for years to come. From the minute I started working with Dr. Rader, I was comforted by his years of experience, cosmetic dental education and overall compassion. Dr. Rader has been our family's dentist for years. I cannot recommend him highly enough! He is very knowledgeable and highly professional. And if that was not enough, he is a pleasure to deal with. I went to see Dr. Rader upon recommendation of my wife who had a cleaning done there. From the moment I walked in I felt a bit like I was in a car dealership. Marble floors, flat screen TVs, videos explaining cosmetic procedures. Way to slick for my taste. Within 5 minutes of sitting down in the chair he diagnosed me with TMJ and recommended $5000 worth of treatment not covered by insurance. When I declined he bargained the price down to $1500. When I refused that he suggested I buy a $500 night guard from him. I might have actually considered his diagnosis had he taken the time to explain himself. However, he apparently didn't have the time and insisted I watch videos on the computer about TMJ and the treatment while I waited for the hygienist to come clean my teeth. Perhaps it's just me, but I prefer it when a doctor takes the time to explain himself face to face rather than have some off the shelf dental video explain things for me. I left there very skeptical so went back to my old dentist for a second opinion. He said the TMJ diagnosis had no basis, but if I wanted to he would make me a night guard for $75 (sure beats $500). A few months later I went to another highly recommended dentist who concurred that the TMJ diagnosis was bunk. A few months later we received a bill for my wife's dental work. Even after insurance covered their part I felt it was extremely high for the work done. For example, I paid $185 after insurance for a filling at Dr. Rader's. A filling using the same procedure at my new dentist is $60 after insurance - almost 1/3 the price! We called and left message upon message regarding the bill. We got no return call, only more bills in the mail. I couldn't help but think he was trying to pay off some of the unnecessary expensive equipment in his office. Needless to say, neither my wife nor I see Dr. Rader anymore. The funny thing is, behind all the salesman tactics he may actually be a decent dentist. My current dentist said the filling he did in my mouth was very well done. read more

I'll pop anyone in the face (or anywhere within punching distance) if they come remotely close to me with that thing. Dr. Rader performed a root canal today, a real doozy of a root canal apparently, and I felt absolutely nothing. TWO THUMBS UP! 2. I can't say enough great things about his staff! Typically, there's an amazing doctor or dentist, but his/her staff is sub par, or vice versa. SO not that case here. TEAM RADER ROCKS MY SOCKS! 3. The office is beautiful, clean, and cutting edge! After having a horrible experience at multiple dentists. I decided to give this office a try I read the reviews on yelp and was like "yes this sounds like a great place" and I'm so happy I did. From the moment I walked into this dentist office I felt comfortable.... for years I had neglected my teeth and not gone to a dentist for fear of judgment on how bad I had let my teeth get. it was a vicious cycle that just got worse and worse with time. At 30 years old I knew it was time to do something. I discovered that Dr. Rader was a professional in the cosmetic surgery department and this is hard to find a lot of dentists will advertise cosmetic dentistry but don't have the skills required-meaning they are not providing cosmetic dentistry or doing cosmetic procedures on a daily basis so they don't really specialize in that practice instead they're more general dentistry providers! Dr. Rader is different he does great general dentistry as well as wonderful crowns veneers and everything else concerning cosmetic dentistry. I got all of my upper teeth done in veneers or "crowns" as some may say I spent about $20,000 but it was worth it I am so happy. I am constantly being complemented by people on how white and beautiful my teeth are. It is a wonderful feeling to have gone from not looking people in the eye because I was so embarrassed of my smile to constantly smiling and feeling confident and beautiful. I love this office and dentist so much that I do all of my dentistry needs here too, from cavities to teeth cleanings this place is the best. I was one of those people who got extreme anxiety when it came time to do something as simple as a cleaning or getting a cavity filled. I have been overly happy with Dr Radar and his staff for the last 8+ years that I have been a patient. I have sat in dentist chairs more than the average person over the last 25 years. From retainers to braces to night guards and cavities. I had an excellent dentist as a child and found myself in the hands of barbarians when I moved away about 12 years ago. You can really tell, when you know what you're looking for, when you are in good hands. Dr Radar is a complete professional. He always takes the time to walk me through the process and explains the benefits and drawbacks of the situation. Though the options can sometimes be expensive, he always offers a range of choices to fit within my needs and limits. Just remember -- you only get one set of adult teeth for your life -- So take care of them! He keeps his office up to par with the latest dental technology so you know you are getting the best care out there (though honestly the mouth camera can be a bit much - I'm not sure I'm meant to see that!). His staff is practically family in their attention and concern towards you. Sometimes I wonder if my hygienist and my mother speak on a regular basis, can you say FLOSS :) I would 100% recommend Dr Radar if you are looking for a trustworthy dentist in the Walnut Creek area. GREAT DENTIST! FABULOUS STAFF. IF YOU'RE AFRAID OF THE DENTIST, YOUR FEARS WILL DISAPPEAR HERE. I am going to start off with that for most of my life, I had an extreme fear of going to the dentist. I dreaded going to the dentist every six months and when I was finally off on my own (after college), I did not go to the dentist for about six years. Yep, a looooong time because I was so afraid. Needless to say, I finally decided I needed to go in 2009/2010 so I asked my co-workers for suggestions. Almost all of them recommended Dr. Alex Rader in Walnut Creek. Everyone said he was great even though a couple people warned me that they like to "sell things" there. So I thought, "What the heck, I'll go." What an experience! Yes, my teeth needed help because it was so long but Dr. Rader was so nice about it and had me fixed in no time (a few cavities and a crown). And the office is beautiful. Someone is a good decorator here. Even the bathroom is nicely decorated. As a new patient, they have you fill out a questionnaire. If you state that you don't like to be sol extra things, they will NOT try to sell you anything. I've been there for three years now and I have not been told I need whitening and sharpening or whatever it is that's cosmetic. There are many reasons I like it here but I'll only highlight a few: 1. Dr. Rader is one of the most passionate dentists I know. And by passionate, I mean he really, really loves his work. I can tell when someone is passionate for what they do and he is IT. You can tell by the way he works, the advanced technology he uses and his knowledge. Everything he's done to my teeth has been done with care, quality and expertise. I am thoroughly impresses with his skills. 2. Since Dr. Rader knows I get scared, he talks me through every procedure. For example, he'll say, "You're going to feel pinch in your gum right now," "(while drilling) Does that hurt? No? Then you can relax because if you didn't feel that you're not going to feel anything at all..." It's just SO great that he tells you what to expect so that there are no surprises. That's what gets me...the anxiousness I feel as I wait to feel pain but Dr. Rader will make sure you know what's going on. 3. The technology. In the past, my old dentist had to give me a temporary crown because they had to order the real crown and I had to wait for it. That took weeks! But at Dr. Rader's office, they have the technology in-house. In a matter of 10 minutes, Dr. Rader x-rayed my tooth, measured it and then had it made with this machine. I was shocked! I don't even have to come back. 4. The staff. They are so nice! I have never once gone in there when one of them was rude to me or dismissive. They treat you like you're a regular at a coffee shop. I have to admit that I enjoy talking with each of them. They are so friendly. Overall, I totally recommend Dr. Rader. He is the first dentist I have gone to where I don't completely dread it. Great experience! I called to schedule a cleaning and needed to get a chip in my front tooth fixed. They informed me that it would take two appointments to get through everything, which with my 9-5 work schedule in another city is tricky to work out. I took the earliest cleaning appointment they had available at the time (10am Monday) and made another for the chip fix (9am Thursday). They called me that same week to let me know that they had a early morning cancelation and remembered I had wanted to get in earlier, so they booked me for 8am Monday instead! My cleaning went well--friendly staff, not too rough or painful, and I had sparkly teeth at the end! I mentioned that Thursday was going to be tricky for me with work and they gave me a 10am spot that same morning from someone who had canceled earlier! I came back in for my chip fix that day and when I saw the doctor, he determined my main chip and another should both be fixed. I explained that for financial reasons I would prefer to handle only the main chip and he excused himself for a minute to go speak to the woman at the front desk who handles the billing. He came back and said he'd take care of the minor chip for me as a holiday present, free of charge. Happy holidays to me! He made my day and while I would never expect this sort of generosity on a regular basis, it meant a lot to me that he was concerned more about me as a patient than the money that came with fixing the chip. I found Dr. Rader by using Yelp to find the best reviewed dentist, near my home, who was also covered by my insurance. I had put off visiting a dentist for way too long because of anxieties around having dental work done. So I was putting a lot of faith in the reviewers here to guide me to the right doctor. Yelp reviewers steered me right! Dr. Rader is a great dentist. So what qualifies a as a 'great' dentist in my book? Well first off a dentist is a doctor and, ideally, a great doctor should not try to heal a symptom or even an ailment but rather should try to treat a patient as a person. This is to say, that while I was indeed in need of good dental work the anxiety keeping from getting that work done was a big part of the picture. Dr. Rader's attention to me as a patient and my initial anxiety was every bit as important as his expertise as a clinician. He and his staff went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and to assuage my fears. That said, I believe Dr. Rader is remarkable at the physical aspect; the craft, of dentistry, as well. By way of example, I have never experienced local anesthesia administered so painlessly. Moreover, the precision with which Dr. Rader works is evident in the fit and finish of the crown I now have. The fitting of the crown and the root canal that proceeded it were executed so meticulously by Dr. Rader and his assistant that the rhythmic efficiency of their work was calming and confidence inspiring, in and of itself.
