This review is for a meal my girlfriend brought me home last night after work. I am not sure if the owner will see this or not, Please just know I am not trying to be picky with the food, just honest is all, because I never sat down in your establishment, just had foods too go, because my partner works out in Elgin, IL. So last night My Lady brought home the Steak Fajita with flour tortillas. The food was so so. What I mean is, it was hard to determine the taste, because there was too much a salty taste than being able to taste each ingredient. I am unsure if the cook / chef, that made this meal is a smoker, and if so their sense of taste is not there or taste buds may be destroyed. I know this from experience as a family member of mine smokes and they have done the same thing. Being a person with kidney issues, and recently started dialysis, well I try to watch what I eat. I thought that meal would be ok to try and have since I had not had meat in a long long time. But the salt just ruined the meal. I am being nice by giving 3 stars, mainly because of the meal, My Lady has never had a bad experience going in there as the staff she has spoken to has been nice to her. Note to the Owner: I may not knwo how it is in your shoes, but in mine it is hard to pick meals sometimes, because sometimes you can pick a meal and is A-OK and then other times it is not. I am not sure if new staff was hired, maybe someone had a bad day. I am not giving up on your restaurant, as you have some breakfast items I still love, but if possible someone needs to lay off the salt, it is ok to use it to help flavor, but someone is over doing it. read more

Super good breakfast & mimosas!! Wish they had some vegan options, but the waitress was happy to customize my veggie skillet. Also, loved the berry mimosa, which was made with Veuve, and the Elvis crepes were to die for!! Nice bar and waiting area, too. Would definitely go back! read more

Definitely a must try location if you're in the area! Very polite customer service from Kailey & I can't remember our servers name. Considering I am on a budget and I was not prepared for this trip this place was perfect. It's so close to my hotel I walked for dinner. There are a couple items on the menu that are pricey but they still have some very reasonably priced items as well. For the beverages they offer a few nonalcoholic options for bottomless drinking through out your meal. Their French Onion Soup is one of the best I've ever had. I ordered the spinach artichoke turkey sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich was toasted perfectly, but the artichoke & spinach seemed a little overwhelming. In the end the service was wonderful, the food was overall very delicious!, and a dinner for 2 costed only $29. Every penny was worth it, only wish the piano player was their during the time I went with my boyfriend. read more

I use to go here as a child and loved this restaurant. So I recently went because I work nearby and they really haven't changed much. Still great food and the restaurant is still busy. The customer service could be better because they're so busy they seem to skip over you if you don't speak up. I order to go so this could be why. First time here. Walked in and noticed the place was pretty clean and had a nice ambiance with a pianist playing near the entrance. We were seated at 11:03 and ordered within a few minutes. After waiting approximately 40 minutes, we waved down our waitress Heather to ask about our food. She explained that the kitchen was backed up. A party of four who was sitting near by and came in 10 minutes after us got their food before us (a party of 2). Within those 40 minutes of waiting, Heather walked past us 3 times and never updated us on our food nor asked if we wanted refills on our mimosas. When we finally received our food, the fries that came with the BLT were stale. The crepes I ordered were pretty good. For the inconvenience, our waitress notified us of a "Good neighbor discount" she applied towards our bill... a discount of $2.40 So guess how much the tip was? read more

Loved the feel of this restaurant! Pianist was playing music during Sunday brunch. Food was great! I had the egg and two meat plate. The hash browns were fantastic, pancakes were ridiculous with the cinnamon flavored butter on top of it! Super rich, and we certainly couldn't get enough! My daughter got an Oreo pancake Childs meal and loved it! It was super rich but right up her alley! If we were in the area again, we will most definitely come back here!! read more

The service was extremely slow, considering there weren't many guests in the restaurant. I sat at the counter, and it was 7 minutes before the service came to ask for my drink order and another 7 to take my food order. Besides this, there were MULTIPLE employees eating and drinking at the counter and the food service area. The man who was expediting the food was eating at the expedition area, touching plates and food with bare hands, and wiping his face, nose, and mouth ( after eating in the customer site). There were also other servers eating in the customer site, all while a few of us were waiting for service. Then, I believe it was an employees baby that came in and everything can to a standstill. The baby was cute, but customer service should never be sacrificed. There is also a time and place for that kind of stuff like taking a break to see your child. The lack of hygiene is the biggest concern for me. I would not recommend anyone eating here. This site won't allow me to post the video I took of all the nasty stuff. read more

We were staying across the street at the HOLIDAY INN, so we already tried BENNIGANS and wanted something different. We both had the chicken and wild rice soup..EXCELENTE!! my wife had the turkey, artichoke, and spinach panini sandwich with coleslaw on the side. She seemed to enjoy it. Stopped by for breakfast with friends. Was seated quickly. Nice set up even with Covid plexiglass. Servers were amazingly friendly and fast. Friends had French toast and said it was the best they ever had. I had pancakes and they were amazingly fluffy and light. Sausage was delicious too. I've had some of the sandwiches and soups and most have been pretty good. Price is a bit heavy, but not terrible. For some reason their sign always tells people to drive 55, which is dumb because the speed limit there is 45. Why are you trying to encourage people to speed Alexander's? edit: Thanks for the response Bob. While it says drive the speed limit, it definitely says speed limit 55, which it's not. Before covid, this used to be an amazing cafe. My absolute favorite thing on the menu then was their tomato caprese salad. This would normally be followed by a nice slice of French silk pie. They have reduced their hours,their menu and their overall quality. The service was good as was the French onion soup, upon ordering the eggs Benedict I noticed that the poached egg was extremely over cooked. A hard gelatinous yolk as opposed to a soft runny yolk. As I remember back when this restaurant was quality and hope that in the future they do better! read more

I ordered a large bowl of soup over the phone. When I asked if it comes with bread I was told no just crackers. This cost me over $5.00 and was supposed to be "Italian wedding" soup. My family and I have been eating here for 25 years. Reason #1 I gave 1 stars: It was near closing and I had just gotten in from Florida to visit my family. When we were leaving I had forgotten my mittens on the window ledge. The next day I had called I asked to speak to the manager and if they were still under the table possibly. Well he assured me they weren't there and that he would call me if they found them. Since it was closing I knew we were the last one in there. Shockingly the manager told me that they are "in the process of now keeping things that are left behind." Now it makes me upset we have been coming there for 25 years and in return to have my mittens stolen...they were 100% left there and unique. :( Reason #2: My chili came out luke warm. Who the hell wants cold chili when it's 12℉ outside?!?! My Chicken Tenders and Sweet Potato Fries were amazing but once again those weren't so warm either.... Everything I've gotten here has been amazing. The cinnamon butter on their pancakes is fantastic, and I think I nearly cried tears of culinary joy when I tasted their Chipotle Benedict. The Butchers Block skillet is another great choice. It quickly replaced Burnt Toast for me. They even have a bar to sit at so when I'm dining solo there is hardly ever a wait. I come at least once a week now. Edit: I don't ever go back and edit reviews, but I just had the Bananas Foster pancakes and they straight up blew my mind. read more

The new Alexander's is super nice. Modern and spacious...... If you like good design, you'll notice things like: the loungie waiting area, oversized booths that fit six people and bathroom doors that push from the I inside out. It's nice not touching a knob on your way out of the jon. THE FOOD: First, the coffee is excellent. I guess it's Intelligesta. Awesome. The Cali omelette is delicious. My little guy got the pancakes and fresh squeezed orange juice. I didn't ask him, but the cup of syrup seemed to make him happy. SERVICE: Very nice server. The food was always good, but it had been a few years since we ate at Alexanders Cafe. We walked in and Wooohoooo....talk about restaurant makeover, this place looks amazing. Ordered breakfast, I had Steak and Eggs and my wife her normal Skillet with Cheese and Sausage. Coffee, juice, water, toast, bagels, etc. The food was incredible, in fact my steak was more tender and satisfying than the one I had the night prior at a well known steakhouse. Did I just get lucky? Maybe, but judging from the faces around us, it seems everyone was loving their food, the service and the ambiance of the new design. Kudos Alexander's Cafe...we'll be back soon! read more

They recently remodeled their restaurant and it looks more up to date. The service was good and the waiter was very nice. They serve mimosas! The skillets are delicious and the pancakes are my new favorite! The only thing I would ask for different next time is no butter on my pancakes. They make their own butter with what I think is cinnamon and I didn't care for it. read more

Charming little eatery in the E town. One of the quickest Easter visits ever. Came down for the day from MN a few Easters ago and met up with the in laws at Alexanders. Had a family feel to it and felt like people would gather here after church. The food was decent. Nothing overly spectacular, but hit the spot and was fairly inexpensive. Nice selections of breakfast fare and I remember that their eggs Benedict was good. Eggs were done perfectly. Will gladly swing back next time I'm in the mood for breakfast. read more

This place is so delicious! I've been here twice now- the first time I got their house made corned beef hash, as in not from a can- ahhmazing!! This morning, per our very friendly waiter's recommendation, I tried the chilaquiles. Holy deliciousness!! I cannot recommend them more highly! Fortunately, I couldn't finish my breakfast and had to take home leftovers :-) My boyfriend had the steak skillet, and he enjoyed every tender bite of it. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and the coffee is "gourmet", as in not your typical diner coffee. They even have a coffee bar! The menu has a good variety, but is not overwhelming at all- just one page of delicious selections. The ambience however is probably a huge reason I keep going back- it's super clean, has these fantastic rustic wood table tops, slatted wood divider walls, and is open and comfortable. The prices are extremely reasonable as well. I highly recommend this restaurant for a tasty, homemade, comfortable breakfast any day of the week! read more

Went for breakfast with a friend this morning, I ordered the classic eggs benedict. Sad to say that my eggs were over cooked and it had almost no holindase sauce on it. The side of potato's were like warm. My friend had over easy eggs and they too were over cooked his turkey sausage did not have much sausage flavor, basically a ground turkey patty I expected a better experience that we had. I will have to say that the server was great, she checked on us multiple times during our meal. Not sure when I will be back for a less that great breakfast experience. read more

We went there for an early Thanksgiving celebration and my brother's birthday. The space was large and there's sufficient seats in the waiting area. We went on a Sunday and they were serving prime rib, so I obviously got that! It was cooked well, although a bit too salty for my taste. We also got to try their pot roast and steak&eggs, which were both good. I especially liked how they have a wide-variety of choices in their menu, which made it easy to transition from brunch to lunch. Overall, I think Alexander's is a good place for a casual meal. I have been here several times. This time the food was fabulous. About 2:30 pm Monday afternoon. The Turkey burger was wonderful and freshly made. I reccomend. 2017 May Well still good food but attention to some details slipping. Loss of quality focus. For some reason they try to recycle sugar packets and the creamers. Once all the creamers in the bowl looked like they were handled multiple times and recently the table had all the different sugar packets look like they have been man handled. Bad impression and makes one feel other things Not seen are slipping. This is not just one or two/ almost every packet. Weird. This is a managerial problem definitely- somebody worrying about nickels and dimes and losing sight of quality and the impression of customers. Waitresses are great. read more

Classic "American" Family Restaurant. Great option to yet another meal at the Belvidere Oasis. Alexanders is typical of family style restaurants across the Midwest. Family run, big menu, large portions, reasonable pricing. It is also a great option rather than another fast food meal on Illinois tollway - with a gas station across the street you have everything you need. Service is prompt and professional. Food quality is above average for a family style place, so that is a bonus. Plus - you never leave hungry. If you are interested in a short break along your drive rather than just a pit stop, a great place. They also have some true vegetarian options, not just another salad. My daughter was happy with the choices and with her meal, so that is a bonus also. This will definitely become one of my stops on trips to Chicago/NW Indiana. read more

After a much needed makeover, this place has transformed into my favorite restaurant in West Dundee. They still sell the cakes and pies which are scrumptious! The staff are still amazingly friendly which I love. The biggest change is the layout and decor - this place is so bright, inviting. Lastly the menu was overhauled with new additions - crafty skillet meals (I had the spicy chorizo), banana frosters (waffles, French toast and pancakes) and so much more! The tea selection also was impressive. The quality of the food changing made a huge difference and this is why foodies like myself will come back. read more
