I visited Benedict's in Dundee twice. The atmosphere here is nice, cozy, and homely. This unique restaurant has a living tree growing through it and out the roof. Service was cool. The great menu options for breakfast is what drew me here. The first go round I had scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and blueberry pancakes. The eggs and turkey sausage were fine. The blueberry pancakes had plenty of blueberries mixed throughout the batter, but I really wasn't a fan of the batter flavor. I really wanted to try the biscuits and gravy because the gravy was made with turkey sausage instead of pork, so I came back. On my return visit I did not like the biscuits and gravy at all. The biscuits were savory and contained some extra ingredients. It looked like finely chopped carrots or something. This breakfast item was a no go for me. I think the gravy should be savory enough to use on good ole regular biscuits. I did like the house potatoes thought. They were seasoned well and cooked right. The menu is what we remember - it offers a variety of breakfast and lunch items, both classic and slight twist of the classic/seasonal. Best of all, it has Intelligentsia coffee! Service was good and very friendly and attentive staff. They didn't take call ahead or online waitlist. Luckily, we got there when it was not too busy. Foods were solid. The eggs were basted in butter, so added flavor. The grit was not smooth - it could have been cooked a bit longer. The temperature of the food was ok, it was warm but not hot. My mouths watering thinking about it. Lemon zest pancakes were fluffy and flavorful. My other dining partners enjoyed their chocolate chip pancakes. The order of beignets weren't New Orleans quality but were solid. Plenty of coffee was made available with a pot on the table. The flavor of the coffee was very tasty, exactly what I was craving in the flavor. They make a homemade veggie quiche with fruit or potatoes. I asked for the potatoes today. It was very good, perhaps the potato pancake could have been crisper and lighter, but it was a tasty combo. My companion had the simple egg breakfast combo served with buttermilk pancakes.
