Cash only! This place is a hidden gem. The servers were super prompt and very friendly. We got there at 7:00am on a Friday and we made it just in time, because by 7:30, every seat was taken... including at the counter. It's an intimate and cozy little place, warm and comfortable. The food was great, with huge portions. I got the Neighbor Benedict, which was a mountain of gravy on top of a biscuit, two sausage patties, and two poached eggs and it included a healthy portion of hash browns with onions. The only thing that was a slight bummer was that this place is cash only, and we didn't know that coming in. Thankfully there was an ATM inside, but the fees were high and my bank charges fees on the other side, so the reasonable prices turned out to be just as expensive as anywhere else. I will bring cash next time and upgrade this review to five stars. read more

first off: it ain't hidden, it ain't a gem, and it certainly ain't a hole in any wall or hot and trending... it's a diner where you come in and get a seat at the counter and drop any one of a dozen vintage schmoozes that ends up with a waitress getting seriously over-tipped... yeah, it's that kind of place! been eating biscuits and gravy here off and on for forty years so this is like coming home except no makis. not much of a crowd at 7:30am on labor day; it's hit-n-miss on the holidays because no body remembers if they're open (pro tip: they're always open just not all the time) still, the counter is full up so it's table time and ice water and black coffee and cakes and eggs and links for a change... phone rings away with the curious and cautious as the place begins to fill and out comes my breakfast piled high and looking good enough to eat. pancakes are ridiculously large and fluffy and a great sop for the hotly sauced bright yellow yolks that used to be eggs up. coffee is black and hot and abundant just how I like it; my links a little lighter and meatier and awaiting a smuggled breakfast cocktail but that was an apricot time ago and a stone sour place away. probably should have got a biscuit though... read more

CASH ONLY. Forewarned. This pleasant breakfast and lunch eatery has allegedly been around for a century. You couldn't tell. Service was friendly, food was prompt and prepared as ordered. Seems like it's a haunt for the "usual suspects" with most people knowing each other, and certainly the staff knew most of the customers. I went for chicken friend steak and eggs, food service steak, but still enjoyable, eggs perfect, and I usually don't eat breakfast potatos, but these were tasty. Allen's Corner is a small local diner in Hampshire, IL. As I walked in, the atmosphere felt real warm and welcoming. You are able to sit wherever you like. The menu is straight forward with homestyle selections. I ordered a veggie omelette, hash browns, and pancakes. The food was nice and I was digging the pancakes. My honey took me to a gem of a diner name Allen's Corner been in business 104 years in Hampshire, IL. that serves fresh farm eggs and special was home made pumpkin pancakes. I had the special pan breakfast. Hash browns, sausage, ham veggies top with 2 over easy eggs and the most delicious gravy I've ever had. Not to mention the delicious pumpkin pancakes with whip cream, walnuts and awesome tasty syrup. Best breakfast ever! Definitely a must I believe it's cash only. Worth every penny. Drove by and stopped in at 1:37pm and found out they closed at 2pm but they were so friendly and let us eat. Maria was our waitress and extremely friendly and so great! Everyone was smiling and laughing and made our lunch so much more enjoyable and spread great vibes throughout the restaurant. Food came out in less than 10mins and everything was fresh and hot. Really looks like a hole in the wall which gives it it charm. Walked right in on a Saturday morning and got immediately seated. There's only about eight tables and a coffee bar. It was getting close to lunch so I decided to have skirt steak fried with onions. It was delicious. My daughter ordered a side of biscuits and gravy and I could have eaten the whole thing it was that good. Charming little place. This is a good little family-owned cafe. They have an extensive menu of breakfast and lunch items. During this Covid-19 pandemic restaurant has set up some outside picnic tables but inside there is not much change. It's still a crowded dining room of 4-top tables and counter seating. Not sure how this spot ended up being bookmarked. It was a beautiful Monday morning for a drive and I had them on my calendar for a while. I've been good with nutrition lately, but diverted back to one of my favorites. The biscuits and gravy were suggested by my server. There wasn't much gravy. (which helps the calorie count) The sunnyside up eggs were served well done. Egg whites were golden brown and not much ooze from the yolk. Well water was nasty. Servers seemed like they'd rather be doing something else, not a very bubbly personality. Doubtful I'd make the pilgrimage again. I could see this place packed on the weekends as it was full on a Monday by 9:30am. Seems like lots of regulars visit which hang out and socialize. I ordered, ate and left and a large group of regulars hadn't even ordered. I heard the server say "There's no tables right know" to a party of 2, and I went outside to free up my table and finish my coffee. It does have that small town charm I like. There's also a great story of their humble beginnings from 1921 on the menu. I'll bump them up to 3.5 stars, just was expecting more. read more

Have heard great things about the place for years. Trying it out. With Mr Martin of course! My first time to Allen's Corner Diner. Very busy little place. The wait time was under 15 minutes so I was surprised by this. They know how to keep people moving. Very friendly servers. Good food and a homey atmosphere. I had a Denver omelette with crispy hash browns and a side of crispy bacon. My husband had a meat lovers omelette crispy hash browns, a side of crispy bacon and a piece of French toast. Everyone there makes you feel welcome. They are right on top of coffee refills. Always smiling. Even after I told them this was my first time there they treated me just like the ones they were on a first name basis with. I definitely will be back. Only error with this whole experience is I never received my glass of water. No biggie. I survived! read more

We were traveling through the area and I had picked out some bland breakfast boxy looking place with a stupid wait... that was a hard no from my wife so I jumped in Yelp really quick and saw what looked like a great little joint. I am so glad boring and boxy was busy because we found an adorable little spot. I had read a review or two about being off the street and that it was too small and if you're a stuck up spoon fed little candy ass, maybe. BUT if you want really good food, funny and helpful staff and Vals amazing pie - this is your place. My only regret is that it is well over an hour away but will not forget this place when I trekking up north. read more
