Nice no frills groomer with a big heart. I took my 4 month old puppy, Walter, in for his first big boy grooming. The booking process was super easy and I got a text confirmation the day before. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly staff who took time to introduce themselves to my little man and walked me through their plan for him that day. The intake process was pretty quick, going over vaccinations and temperament questions. I was pleased to see that Walter would get to spend the morning frolicking with the other doggos rather than chilling in a kennel. The staff let me know that they would keep him a little longer so that he could get acclimated to the sounds of the grooming stations before his actual treatment. I left knowing he was in good hands. A few hours later I got a call that Walter was ready to be picked up. They let me know that he was a little bit naughty (to be expected on a first grooming) but that all in all things went well and they thought he'd improve with future visits. The cut itself was not great but considering the limited success that I've had trying to groom this little wiggle monster myself, I think they did a pretty good job and that their work will improve with puppy's behavior. I took our 2 doodles here for the first time and was impressed with the staff. However, I was told after the fact that they charge more for doodles than what is posted on their website because their hair takes more time. I've been taking doodles to groomers for the past 12 years and this is the first time I have been told this. Seems a bit suspicious with the rise in popularity of doodles. The groomer did a nice job except for the ears. Ears were chopped and looked very uneven. Hair inside the ears was removed from one dog but not the other. I took my mutt , Jack, to Alexander's a few months ago and everything was great. This morning, I called to book another appointment but the call went to voice mail. The recorded message advised to try calling back later rather than leaving a message, so I hung up and intended to call again. Not too long after that, I got a call and they not only knew who I was but who my dog was too. Wow! That seems like magic! I had planned on scheduling an appointment in the future, but I was told that they had an opening today, if that worked for me. I'm notorious for last minute planning, so Jack was in pretty bad shape and needed a cut ASAP....so of course I took the same-day slot! The girl who took care of him (I didn't get her name) was super. She greeted Jack and took note of his nervous personality and approached him slowly so as not to make it worse. She asked how I wanted him groomed and was very friendly. A few hours later, I got a call that Jack was ready to go. When I got there to get him, he looked great! Not only the cut, but he also didn't look like he was terrified for his life. Everyone was super cool and you can tell that they all love dogs. We'll be back! read more

Jackpot!! We found our new groomer!! We were trying to brush our Bear (Shepherd Husky mix) this morning and decided we should treat him to a Grooming. Our usual chain store go-to was booked until Monday so I came to yelp look for other options. After reading the reviews for Alexanders I gave them a call and luckily they had an opening in a half hour. From the customer service over the phone I knew we were going to have a great experience. We brought Bear in explained his anxiety issues and described what we wanted done and AJ suggested some options and told us it would take about 2 hours so we left and killed some time eating brunch. The entire staff there was extremely friendly and welcoming and I liked how open the space was and you could see all the stations and the kennels were all up front with the staff so dogs aren't abandoned in a back room. Two dogs were being worked on and you could see care and attention the staff was taking while grooming each dog. We got a call 10mins before Bear was finished as I explained he gets anxious being left alone and locked up in strange places, so they called to make sure we arrived by the time they were finished. We arrived and Bear looked AMAZING!! His coat was gorgeous and perfectly groomed. All the mats in his elbows butt and tail were gone and he looked like he was ready for the dog show!! You can tell AJ and the staff care about the pets and treat them like their own while handling them! The price was half what we pay at the chain stores and it was a much better job. Bear has never looked so good and he is ready to show off! He is so silky soft, all his undercoat is brushed out and he smells amazing!! We will definitely be back and we will take advantage of the tartar removal. I'm a fan of their technique and knowing I don't have to put him under to take care of his teeth!! I'm really bummed to be writing this review. I was looking forward to taking my little guy in for a grooming at Alexanders. They had so many good reviews on here and I was referred by a friend of mine who spoke very highly of them. I waited two months for the appointment which I felt was reasonable given all their 5 star reviews. I came to pick him up after a couple of hours. Everyone was super friendly and told me StanLee was good and had a good time with the other dogs there. I picked him up and when we got home I noticed his eyes were completely bloodshot. I didn't think much of it until yesterday when it wasn't getting better and I've been noticing his energy level lower than usual. I called and asked them about it and if anything had happened during his appointment but they said everything was fine (I didn't expect them to admit to anything obviously). Now I have no proof that something happened while he was there but I do know his eyes weren't like that when he was dropped off. This wasn't his first time getting groomed and he has never had this issue before. I don't really expect anything to come from this but as a first time dog owner I've learned where I should take my pup. I really wish there was some more empathy from the staff when I called in. I paid $45 (that was with 20% tip) and just wish there was more of an effort from their part. Attached is the best photo I could get of his eye. Not great but still concerning. read more

I do not usually write reviews. But it was so good, I had to. I brought in my 5 month old Shih Tzu. He had never been groomed before. He looked like a mop and his bottom was matted. I am a first time dog owner, so I had no idea what I wanted. The staff is extremely nice, helpful, and caring. You can tell they're dog people and are very gentle. They recommended some cuts to me, and I couldn't be happier with the results. They informed me on how he did when I picked him up, which I appreciated because I was a worried dog mom. The cut looks great, and my puppy wasn't completely freaked out when I picked him up. They don't just stuff the dogs in crates when they're done, they let them run around the shop to play with the other dogs. It makes it way more fun for them! Needless to say, I'm very pleased with my experience and this is where I'll continue to bring my dog. read more

Be VERY specific with grooming expectations. I dropped off my cute 2 year old Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie mix) for her summer grooming. I wanted her to be short and assumed the groomer knew dog breeds well enough to maintain her cute Morkie face and ears. I did not recognize my fur baby when I picked her up a few hours later. She was shaved head to toe, top to bottom - her beautiful Morkie face and ears were no more. Her nails, ears, glands were groomed well and she smelled good. I also loved the dogs were not all in kennels but running around and playing together. I am grateful her hair will grow and her beatiful Morkie appearance will return - I'm just not sure we will return to AG's. read more

The staff is super friendly. But that doesn't mean that they're great groomers. I absolutely disliked it the last time but I thought I would give it another shot and NOPE... still not good. They always shave right in between the eyes. They leave some wonky uneven line, that I am pretty sure I could do better. I also noticed this time they left a bald spot right by her ear. I've asked them to trim her beard around her mouth, and they don't. Hope the pics give you all a visual. I won't be going back for "third time is a charm". read more

After feeling good about their phone call with Alexander's, they did an initial visit. Xander and the rest of the employees immediately put my parents at ease and they scheduled an appointment. Since then, Alexander's has been our exclusive family pet groomer. Our baby, a little Yorkie, is treated extremely well at Alexander's and jumps into Xander's arms every time she comes here. She is groomed impeccably at a really low cost. From a friendly staff, great grooming session, and cheap pricing, this place is easily the best pet grooming business in the Salt Lake City valley. So my wife and I adopted an older, long-haired cat from a shelter and he had a few mats in his fur. We tried many times to brush him out or cut the mats out (which he really, really, REALLY hated) and eventually we decided that it was time to go the professional route. We didn't want to take our extremely grumpy cat to a chain grooming place and decided to call around to a few privately owned and operated groomers. The first couple I called were either too pricey or didn't groom cats, but then I called Alexander's. His price for cats is one of the lowest in the area, and he seemed very confident - even when I told him about how grumpy our cat can be. He was able to schedule an appointment for the very next day. The space that they are in is a bit small and unassuming, but don't let that fool you, these guys seem very talented. There were several dogs who were getting groomed while we were there and they all looked freaking adorable. Our poor, old, grumpy cat who was all matted and unhappy now looks hilarious with his new lion's mane cut! The important thing is that he's mat and tangle free and seems much happier and more comfortable (probably good for him with the warmer summer months coming up). AJ and the staff were very friendly, helpful, and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to bring my cat back for grooming again. FYI: I believe it only says "Pet Grooming" on the building instead of "Alexander's Pet Grooming," and I wasn't sure I was in the right place at first, but they are in the strip just west of Shane Co. read more

My husband and I adopted a big, grumpy, fluffy cat a few months ago who had some big mats in his fur. I had attempted to brush them out myself and even resorted to cutting a few out but we could not stay on top of them. We decided to get him shaved and I did not want to take him to a chain like Petsmart or Petco. As soon as I walked through the door to Alexander's, I could tell these guys love animals. They have you fill out a questionnaire to help them get to know your pets and take great care. There were things on the questionnaire that I might not have thought to tell them about - like my cat's poor eyesight - I'm sure helps them when handling animals they are unfamiliar with. They were not phased when I told them that he is grumpy and growls like crazy, they said they had plenty of experience with vocal cats. I had a good feeling when I left and when I picked him up they told me how he did and they got rid of all of his mats and gave him a cute lion cut! To be blunt, my cat is my life. I would die for this animal, do you understand? My not so little girl, has been with me since I was a little girl. Being that she's a senior now (18), I hate the thought of having to put her through even a second of discomfort. I've been to grooming salons that looked like the Waldorf Astoria, and didn't feel welcome nor comfortable. This is not the case at Alexander's. I would much rather go to a simple, basic, salon and have my cat be treated well any day, over the alternative. And I know she was treated well, given the fact that she came home in a calm state. They did an excellent job on her shave. She is not only old, but incredibly small. She has consistently weighed between 5 and 6 pounds her entire life, which has always made the prospect of me trying to groom her myself exceptionally nerve wracking. I told them exactly what I wanted, and they delivered. Is there really much more you could ask for? I guess you could ask for fair pricing? Which they certainly have. And I guess you could ask that it be timely? No problem there either. I'm over the moon to have found a great salon that just so happens to be local. We will be back! read more

We took our 1 1/2 year old Mini Schnauzer to Alexander's for the first time today. My husband and I could not be happier! Our little man tends to get nervous and boisterous (putting it lightly) in new situations, but especially at the groomer. Normally when we would pick him up from the groomer, he would be beside himself to get out of there. It was so stressful for us & him. When we walked into Alexander's today to get him, he was roaming around behind the counter asking people for pets & loves, which they so kindly gave him. When he saw us, he was happy but there was no freaking out, high pitch spazzy barking, scratching to get outta there. He was so chill and calm! He looked great too. Espen did such a good job! Our dog, Oliver, is a nightmare to groom. He's nine months old and been groomed three times in the past, all of which have been pretty rough and have left him looking rather scraggly. I read abut Alexander's on Yelp and decided to give them a try. I called and explained that he is very difficult and they said they'd do their best. We just picked him up and he looks adorable!! They said he was a little difficult but nothing out of the ordinary. He doesn't seem nearly as distressed as he's been in the past. This was our 3rd time visiting Alexander's pet grooming. It is the only place I have had my 1 year old yorkie groomed at. Our first two visits were okay- my little Lola's first haircut ever I chose too short of fur length (not Alexander's fault!). Her 2nd visit, I showed staff a picture of how I wanted her haircut (her ears were cut extremely uneven -this was Alexander's fault!). Our 3rd and probably final visit ever was a disaster. We dropped Lola off at 11:30 AM on Saturday. Alexander's claims to never have your pets longer than 4 hours. Well, my husband called to check on her around 4 and they told my husband she wouldn't be ready until 5:30, that's SIX hours people. When my husband got there, they were still working on her. The staff was extremely rude to my husband and claimed that Lola was matted which is why it took longer. First of all, Lola is only 5 pounds. I brushed her literally the night before so she wasn't that matted. He finally got lola back and she was still wet. We paid $67.62 (with tip). When Lola got home, I was examining her and they cut way too close to her eye. It has been bothering her since Saturday. I am not impressed with their customer service and have not really been impressed with the cuts either. I will post pics of her haircuts and her cut in her face. read more
