We are staying in Minocqua for the evening and wanted to grab a bite to eat. We walked past Alexander's, which is located 0.2 miles away from the hotel we're staying at, and decided to eat there out of convenience and we were hungry. The staff was friendly but the restaurant was quite noisy and busy with children. My husband rated the pizza a 3 and I rated the pizza a 2. He thought the crust, although very thin, was still too "bready" and filling. I rated the pizza a 2 because it was very greasy, I didn't care for the crust, and it gave me instant heartburn. *Also to note, the restaurant doesn't have any windows and the women's restroom only has one stall. You go to a pizza place for pizza. Atmosphere is a bit dark with no windows. It was clean so that's a positive. Video games included crappy old shoot em um game marketed towards deer hunters. Also there were a few bins with old stuffed animals with the crane which looked like they were there from 1990. Atmosphere: 2 We ordered 3 pizzas, 1 cheese, 1 half pepperoni half sausage, and one deluxe. They asked if we wanted canned or fresh mushrooms on the deluxe, which I thought strange but some kids don't like the texture of fresh. The sauce tasted like from a low quality jar sauce; like something you would find on a shelf in a gas station convenient mart. The pizza was served in the square cut fashion. Crust was thin and a bit over cooked. It's the type of food you eat when you are hungry and need something to eat or you've had too many drinks to care. The fresh mushrooms ended up being the only thing that tasted good. Food quality: 1 Any frozen pizza in better than this cuisine. Overall if you are real hungry and you're already sitting down, order the minimum to not be hungry. Pizza is decent- not memorable but certainly adequate. Our kids love the arcade games to keep them entertained during the wait. My biggest complaint is that pizza is the only item on the menu. Both Minocqua Pizza and Monical were closed today, so we ended up at Alexander's. It has a really unassuming storefront and I thought it would be just a carry out place or maybe have one or two tables. The place is huge! It could easily accommodate really large groups of people. The staff was super friendly. The many booths and picnic tables were spotless. The carpet, though, is ancient. I saw a banner on the wall that said they'd been around since 1972. I'm afraid that carpet has, too. The menu is short and sweet. We ordered a 10" Big Al (meat lovers) and a 10" Supreme. My husband was really impressed that they asked him if he wanted canned or fresh mushrooms. There are two pool tables, a foosball table, and several video and crane games to keep the kiddos busy. It's too bad they don't have background music - only a jukebox. It's on the expensive side, $24 for two small pizzas. They were good, though. Hand-tossed crust, really good sauce (and a lot of it) and plenty of toppings. I just keep thinking that if you were to add drink prices and then quarters (dollars, in some cases) for games, it could end up being a really spendy night out. read more

We have a cabin up north and have been going to Alexander's for years. It's a great spot to get together with family and friends and spend an evening. They both deliver and offer pick-up, so even if you want to eat at home you can enjoy this wonderful pizza. I personally recommend the cheese fries! After coming to Minocqua for years we finally tried the staple pizza joint that has been around forever. I feel as though the pizza was centered around the crust, which was very tasty with a nice crisp to it. However, the rest of the pizza was underwhelming. Barely enough sauce to even see, much less taste (which my wife was a fan of, but I prefer more sauce). Also, we ordered a 3 topping pizza and I felt like it was a 1 topping pizza with 3 different 1/3 choices, as there were pieces without any toppings on it and they were stingy. Again, the crust carried it or it would've been really disappointing, but all in all I expected better. read more

I was born and raised in Minocqua and Alexander's has ALWAYS been my favorite pizza place aside from Mama's (now closed) so many memories have been made there with me and my family. I give this place two stars based on the cute downtown location and family environment. I ordered our staple, pepperoni and mushroom. The mushrooms from a can, probably from China too. I'll be honest and say that I was pleasantly surprised when I tried their pizza for the very first time. Their thin crust had a crispier crunch to it than I thought it would, which I have to say was the highlight. The cheese/sauce were decent, and the toppings could've honestly been a bit better. Honestly, I recommend this place. At first I had a bad feeling about this feeling then I liked it, they have video games, arcades, candy machines. All sorts of whistles and bells. When we got the pizza we tried it, out of everyone I probably liked it the least but it was ok, the candy machine also has mostly bad candies. But sometimes they have sugar sticks, Smarties, and some others. And then we finished. The place, 9 out of 10. The food 7 out of 10. The games 9 out of 10. And the crane machines, 6 out of 20. I give this place a solid 3 stars, and they do deliver within 5 miles of the restaurant. The pie is good, have I had better? Hell yes, have I had better service? Ordered delivery - 3 small pizzas. Delivery was on time, though they forgot a small side we ordered. Overall we were disappointed - went to the hotel restaurant to get some hot sauce to give the pizza some flavor. Crust was crispy but bland. Agree with previous "cardboard" reviews. All toppings are placed under the cheese - placing them on top allows for more water evaporation and concentration of flavor - maybe that would help? Or maybe the quantity is too low. As soon as I walked in the employees greeted me with big smiles, and made me feel welcome. When I ordered my food I sat down, and before I knew it they brought it straight to my table. The pizza was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed every bite. After I was finished they offered to box up my food and bid me farewell. This place is a throw BACK to the 80's. It feels like the owners are trying to provide a hangout for the loud hunter youth of the area. We had ordered some pizzas to eat while we watched movies. They came in good time and smelled delicious . Kids dove into their cheese. We started to eat our garbage(sausage,onion,green pepper and mushrooms). I then noticed a coarse dark brown hair in my slice. I called the resturant and they told me it was cheese.? This WAS not cheese. They sent the driver back and he looked at it. He tried to break it as a piece of cheese would, nothing happened. He said he could refund our money if he took the pizzas back. Well my kids ate theirs, so no refund. Regardless something should have been done I did not want my money back, I wanted some good pizza. I am from Chicago, and we go up to the northern woods every year. We always go to this place. They have a very good pizza, a great atmosphere pitchers of pop, and the staff has been great, a great little picture machine for couples. I recommend a stop in if your in Minocqua. read more

My wife and I went and had a pizza at Alexanders last night. I've had their pizza several times before, and it was always very good. I don't know if it was because we were there right before closing, but on this particular evening the pizza was not as good as it usually is. If I could give the place 0 stars I would. We walked in and a family didn't know that the place doesn't box up the leftovers for you so they had to walk up to the counter and do their own. After I'm assuming waiting for some time. They were not happy. Should have been a sign for us to turn around and walk out. The girl at the register said they never box food because she doesn't feel comfortable touching others people's food. We order a 12in pizza. My son is playing games. My husband and I wonder what's taking so long after a table that came in after received their food...... What was taking over 30 min and being 1 of 3 tables.... Is because the kids making the food were to busy eating their own pizza in the kitchen instead of making ours. After we said something we requested our money back. However my husband said he tipped them after we left the restaurant. He went back in and requested the tip back and the girl said she didn't charge it.... Time will tell when the transaction clears my bank acct if she charged the $2 tip or not. Will not recommend this place to any one. read more

U will eat off paper plates with plastic silverware, be outnumbered by video games, be greeted by employees that have zero charisma or care, deal with the loud noise, and sit at a table that has been minimally cleaned at best.
