We tried PJ's before finding a Yelp review. Up north atmosphere, very large menu with over 25 different burgers. Food was excellent and the service too. We were here the wednesday before labor day, and the place was almost vacant. That is a shame, but other places in the area were closing early and were not open everyday. Help wanted signs were every where. Perhaps our foolish governor should have followed the Republican lead and stopped the "padded" unemployment early. No one out looking for jobs. This place is closing on the Saturday before labor day for "remodeling" and won't open until may. Sad! read more

Great burger selection with all kinds of unique burgers! I disagree with other review on here, these are clearly very generous, hand formed fresh patties and they are seasoned well. The ciabatta bun is soft and perfect. Husband tried the Western burger and said it was one of the best burgers he's had. I tried the Sticky Burger with peanut butter and surprisingly, it really works! Fun change from the usual. Fries are a step above your usual fries, and I like that they don't come all salty and you can salt to taste. We didn't have dessert but they had a nice assortment of homemade desserts like rhubarb pie, cherry torte, and pies. Our server was very friendly and attentive and brought a dog bowl out too. We really appreciated the dog friendly patio. Was very relaxing compared to the overcrowded places in downtown Minocqua. Plus they had Hazy Rabbit IPA on tap. $37 total for a craft beer, root beer, and two big, filling, unusual burgers with good fries, with a water view. We'll be back. read more

Stopped by and got 2 burgers to go. Mediocrity at best. For a 40 dollar bill it was very lack luster. Patties tasted like they were cooked with a propane torch with fake smoke added. Grill marks on one side with the other looking like it was boiled. Looked like a pre fab patty too. For being a "burger joint" one would think they could make their own patties and season them. Onion straws over cooked and just bad. Fries were ok, unsalted thats a bummer. Best part was the bun. Soft and grilled nicely. Rough guys, do better or people take your money elsewhere! read more

It's a place I want to love. The food was amazing (Highly Recommend the Wisconsin Burger) but the appetizers were meh. Kept getting refills without having to ask which was nice. You get a lot of food which us good. However I was sat with 2 other people near the bar, the chairs were a little slippery and hard and a bright light was on the wall next to the table. Absolutely fabulous food! I had the Green Chili Burger with Parmesan sprinkled chippers (homemade chip). Ohhhhhh YUM!! The burger itself was perfectly cooked & very juicy! It was topped with chili-seasoned green chilis, Swiss, onions, & tomato. The chippers were a perfect crispness topped with just the right amount of parm! Others had the Western Burger & the Pastrami Burger- both said they would order the same again... although there are so many options to try. Beautiful view of Lake Brandy! Indoor & outdoor seating. Peanuts in the shell on each table- beware if u have a peanut allergy. My only recommendation: new tables, or a fresh clearcoat on existing ones- they are sticky. First off I'll say the food was really good, from the party I was with, HOWEVER, the burger I had, "the chili burger" was bland and could have used some cheese, which I thought was on there but was mistaken..my fault...as we walked in we weee pretty much screamed at that there was no room for us (we had 10) and we would have to either sit outside or in the bar, OR wait 45 mins minimum, for some booths to clear out...we chose to sit at some bar tables, and were fine with that, the "waitress" then made sure to inform us several times how busy they were and our food was gonna take at least 45 mins to get, again we were ok with that...she was right, it was pretty much 45 mins or so till we ate...food was good enough and the waitress calmed down enough to be polite...THEN after eating we were informed that they put our whole party on 1 bill...and they VERY LOUDLY refused to split it up cuz "it would take to long and they are really busy!!" My brother in law and I just decided to split it down the middle and pay...We felt more of an annoyance than a guest in this place and even tho the food was good, I don't think we will go back to be yelled at, I've worked in restaurants for several years in my life and never ever is it acceptable to yell at customers when you are in the weeds...o would have gave it a 1 star but like I said we did like the food... read more

Accidentally stopped into this place thinking it was a different joint. This was a fortunate circumstance because the wife and I had a great lunch. The burgers were delicious, the potato chippers were also splendid and the service was fast, great and super friendly. The following day all my wife and I could think about were the burgers we had. We wanted more but sadly had to begin our return to California. Next year when we return it will be our first lunch when we arrive followed by a few more. read more

I'm giving this 1 star because my manfriend's "Sticky Burger" was good. My "Loaded Grilled Cheese ", not so much. It was burnt. I scraped off the burned part and ate it. I did that vs. requesting another one because it took 40 minutes to get our order. Get this, we were the ONLY people in there. WTH? If your the type of person that looks at the bill, I don't mean scrutinize the bill, just glance over it. The menu (in smaller print) at the bottom of the last section, you'll notice it says " if you order a 1/4 pound " it's a $1.50 less. Well, we don't care about the price, it looks like a reverse up charge on the bill of the $1.50 for 1/2 pound burger. We weren't asked what option we wanted. 1/4 pound vs. 1/2 pound. The price is correct per menu, however the $1.50 is a separate charge. Now, for our bartender.... I'll just say, she had the personality of a wet cat... her phone was more important than us. Tho there aren't many places to choose from here to eat, that are open on any given day. We will not return here. Oh.. side note.... There were three ladies waiting at front area to be seated while we paid our bill.. a good 5 minutes. No one acknowledged them at all. No server no bartender no owner... when we left and got in the car to go, the three ladies walked out. I can say.. OWNERS , you need to pay more attention to your staff and when potential customers walk in or as they did, walked out! read more

This review is for PJ.s burger barn in Arbor Vitae. we called to see if they were wheelchair accessible, and they were. old building, still not finished with rehabbing, but it looks like it's going to be great. waitress was very accommodating, polite & attentive. Gave us no grief for staying past closing and took a party of 6 at the last minute. Burgers we're delicious. Chippers we're excellent. Good selection of beer. Overall success. read more

These guys should stick to serving bottles of beer. Hard to f that up. Walked in to find a month's(?) worth of peanut shells on the floor. Broom broken? We opted to sit outside to avoid the mess. After 20 min, she brought menus and stood waiting for our orders. Then asked for drink orders. An hour later, a little food came out, then a few drinks, after asking for them, then a little more food, then the rest of the drinks. Then a while later, the rest of the food. BURGER BARN? Sign should say BAR WITH BURGERS. It became quite apparent why there were only two cars here when we got here and I'm pretty sure they were the employee's. I think it would be safe to say that the locals probably don't frequent this shitshack. Don't waste your time. read more

Traditional bar setting. VERY friendly, courteous, kind, accommodating, knowledgeable staff. When me & my family drove by, it smelled soo very delicious & tempting. So we went there for dinner. They have over 30 different types of burgers which amazed me at the different combinations. Each one is unique. Everyone's burger was cooked to medium, & everyone's burger was cooked right & juicy. All the burgers come with fresh homemade Kettle chips, which are 20x better than fries & taste so delicious! The waitress even accommodated us by splitting a burger in 1/2 for my 2 younger boys back in the kitchen so each of them got the same amount. I would recommend coming here to anyone, as I will be returning to here in the very near future. read more

I don't usually write negative reviews because I feel constructive comments are most useful to people when given in person. This place is by far the worst I've seen in the north woods. My first trip here was met with disappointment as the frozen burger was presented to me at a "burger" restaurant. We hadn't been back in a few years but decided to give it another chance. My family and I waited at the "please wait to be seated" sign for 10 minutes. I then tried to get the bartenders attention away from the three customers at the bar but she was much too busy to pay any attention to us. It's hard to believe they can get by with only seating two tables at a time, but I guess they are satisfied with that turnover. A helpful tip for this place... keep driving half a mile and enjoy your meal at Culvers! read more

Over 30 burgers to chose from and even substitute turkey or chicken breast! They have another book with over 100 more burgers! Even their homemade pizzas are wonderful! Burgers & ciabatta bun were very good - Wisconsin w/cheese curds & onion straws and just a basic cheeseburger. Asked for grilled onions, got two slices of raw onions. Lettuce, tomato & onions were all extra prices. French fries and chips were good. Paid cash otherwise additional 3.33% for credit card. No Social distancing inside & out and servers were not wearing masks also it was not posted on the door for guests to wear. read more

We have a gift certificate to PJ's Up North and do not want to be embarrassed by trying to use it at the wrong place, if they are not the same. Stopped in for an early dinner after missing lunch; this will probably be the last visit here. The server who took our order could not have been more unfriendly; never came back to refill our drinks and practically tossed the platters on the table. My husband got a mushroom and Swiss burger; the mushrooms were cold and so affected the whole burger. My 1/4 lb burger was okay, nothing special. Not sure what has changed with the chips, but nowhere near as good as the last time here. read more

I've never written a review before, but after this experience I felt I had no choice. We stopped in because we liked the fun burger logo. We were greeted by an extremely unfriendly waitress. She would only deliver things to one end of the table, and expect us to pass everything out. She never smiled or thanked us for our business. She never came to see if we needed any more beverages. We stopped in for dinner. I had a Philly burger, my husband had the patty melt. We always split half and half so we can try eachothers. The Philly was good but bland. Definately needed some pazazz added. The patty melt was good. The thousand island tasted fresh. the service was okay as well. They could do without the peanuts on the floor. Four children running around with no supervision did not enhance the dinning experience either. Thought someone was going to get their hands smashed in the door . Asked for burger to be medium. To me that means a little pink not bordering raw. Bottom of bun was soggy from sitting on plate in pool of blood/ drainage top of bun was dry / hard. Not a very good experience all in all. Delicious, delicious, delicious!! Best burgers, simple but relaxing atmosphere and the peanuts are always a plus. The potato chips are the best anywhere and we generally go there several times while we are in Minocqua. Word to the wise, generally the burgers are so generous, one is enough to share but so yummy, you will want to save the leftovers for later on. read more
