They do have a pretty tasty salad bar though. We went here recently for Father's Day. My hubby ordered "fresh, corn on the cob". It was horrible. Not only was it not fresh, it wasn't sweet corn and it tasted like it had been reheated a few times. The whole experience was mediocre, and they weren't busy. It definitely wasn't one of their better days. It's a large old warehouse with plenty of seating. Parking, however, is always a crunch. If you're in the mood to cook for yourself, this is the only place (except in the privacy of your neighbor's grill). But, there are plenty of other places to get a steak in Peoria. read more

Love this place! Probably our favorite restaurant in the Peoria area. Steaks are delicious and the salad bar is by far the best and most well kept salad bar I've ever seen. I just moved out here from California and my cousin had a birthday party for her 9 yr old. When I first walked in the resturante I noticed my family and I were the elephant in the room. This resturante was mainly med-high class white of race ppl and we are the "arabs". So as soon as we walk in the workers there were just staring at us. Yes we were a big crowd 9 kids 7 adults but again it was a birthday dinner for a 9 yr old. We sat down we were served and our server was wonderful nice and patient with how the kids were. Towards the end she brought out the cake, mind you when at a resturante there should be at least 3-4 waiters singing happy birthday to the guest, but only our server came out. Must be a Peoria thing what do I know. We recieved our check and we paid the bill and ready to get out and gather the kids one waiter walks by and said "these fu**ing kids" walk away to stand next to our waitress and another gentleman. All three were looking at us and talking shit and we can hear them. One of them was saying " just remember those faces" with an angry look. Yes kids can be annoying and loud but they were not my childeren so I can not say anything since I have no kids and experience to strain childeren. Typically before we walk out we see our server and thank them and hand them a tip, which we did close 50$, and walked out. As I was walking out I felt a bad vibe as they were staring at us. I felt the need to address this with a manager. I walked back in to speak to a manager , then came out the manager who was the one that said " remember those faces". I addressed hom about the remark. It felt like a threat that if they remember our faces the next time they will spit in our food. He was like him and the other servers were talking about the tip. I said what about the tip, she said we only tipped the server 10$. I addressed him no we gave her 50$ in total. 10$ from the change on the bill and 40$ we handed her in her hand as we thanked her. I requested to have him bring the waitress and he refused. I told him for being a manager and conducting a business like this and judging ppl on how they tip or how the kids act he is an asshole and needs to be more professional and have better ethics. But this was a disappointing dinner caused by the unprofessional manager read more

Had a good dinner for five at Alexander's. For appetizer's, the fried mushrooms and the fried calamari were pretty good. The calamari were in an odd French fry-like shape, but were still tasty. The potato skins were nothing special, and I would recommend passing on them in favor of another appetizer. Alternatively, you could just go for another round (or two) at the salad bar, which is not super extensive but has relatively fresh ingredients--definitely a good step up in that department from your average chain restaurant salad bar like Ruby Tuesday's. We opted to kick in the extra couple bucks and have the chef prepare our steaks. I went with a medium rare t-bone that may have been a tad overcooked into medium territory. The steak itself was pretty large--maybe just a tad under porterhouse size pre-cooked. The steaks are apparently hand cut by in-house butchers but, possibly as a result, they'll only guarantee USDA Choice or above. The baked potato side is very basic--an uncut baked potato put on your plate. The hand cut Idaho steak fries looked pretty good--as simple as a couple of lengthwise cuts in a potato that are fried. The shrimp on the Jumbo Shrimp Skewer was short of being anything "jumbo" in my opinion, but it's still nice to have the shrimp as an add on. The vegetables on the skewer, on the other hand, weren't that good. If you like mushrooms at all, I strongly recommend getting the skillet of sauteed mushrooms along with your steaks. Dinner also comes with unlimited Texas toast--literally out of a bag like you would get at the grocery store, but the end result is actually really enjoyable after toasting the bread on the grill for a little bit. Even though we were all pretty stuffed, we decided to share a Skillet Cookie, which is a chocolate chip cookie served in a hot skillet with ice cream and whipped cream. I thought it was all a little over-hyped, but it's an okay dessert to share among a couple of people. Overall, Alexander's isn't the place to go for a classic steakhouse experience, but it's exactly the right place if you're looking to kick back and drink beers around a huge grill while cooking your steaks. The restaurant atmosphere is friendly, as is the service. I do like the fact that you can take a look at the different cuts in the fridge before making your selection. Except for the sauteed mushrooms, the food doesn't stand out among all the steakhouses I've been to, but, if you're cooking your own steaks, the experience is a little more unique than the rest. read more

It's not a fancy steakhouse but I really enjoy Alexanders. They have the best Long Island Teas (well worth the money). The salad bar I was disappointed with-the quality was definitely lacking and the lettuce was soaking wet which is a huge turn off to me. The steaks were good quality. Alexanders is one of my favorite restaurants in Peoria! I have never had bad service there or a bad meal. I have been dining there for many many years. The salad bar is great! So many options in the salad bar! The steaks are delicious and high quality. They come with a baked potato and Texas toast - yum! I usually order steak here but I have also had the chicken which is also delicious. Appetizers are not needed but the stuffed mushrooms are great if you need a recommendation. If you have the room, get the skillet cookie, yum!!!! You can have them cook for you but cooking it yourself (or have your significant other do it like I do) is more fun in my humble opinion. read more

You can hit the grill or have it done for you; I don't know about anyone else but I come out to be served not cook, speaking of which they have a great cookie that's on the menu (chocolate chip) if you're not too full after a great steak, the sides are average, fresh broccoli (or other veggie) baked potato, texas toast & salad bar, did I say bar? They have a great bar, the drinks are hit/miss depending upon who is doing the mixing, my go to is the long island iced tea, however visit before my last was STROng, this visit I reduced to half order which was perfect, it's a Peoria staple and great for just about anything you want to celebrate, casual or business, as noted by others read more

This place flat-out rocks for us Carnivores, but you've got to have a plan. First, you order up a tall, cold stein of your favorite lager. Then you select your slab of meat out of the cooler. Take a few steps over to the grill and throw the meat on the grill with a grunt(more of a 'Tim the Tool-Man Taylor' grunt than a 'dang, this meat is heavy' grunt). Right away, now, take a nice long swig of your beer(you didn't set it down, did you? Or, worse yet, leave it at the table?) Take a moment to admire your handiwork. Now you can either head over to the salad bar to graze for a bit, or you can stay at the grill and munch on a piece of you-grilled Texas-toast. After about ten minutes, flip your meat, after another ten or so(when your steak reaches your desired 'done-ness') order up another cold one so it's waiting for you at your table when you complete the final step before eating(see, I told you that you've got to have a plan): grab a potato, throw your steak on a clean plate, re-join your friends/family and enjoy! The prices are pretty reasonable, but if you're the type that's going to complain that it should be cheaper because, hey, you do all the real work, then maybe this isn't the restaurant for you. But if you're up for a fun evening of carnivorous dining then you've come to the right place. read more

Was in P-town over the weekend and brought the family to Alexander's. Food was great and the service was outstanding (ask for Lyndsay). My wife and daughter both had salmon (which they will cook for you without an extra charge) and it was amazing. Others in the group had steak which we cooked ourselves. I have visited with larger group of people (10+). The waiter seemed somewhat overwhelmed with our orders even though we had 4 kids and 3 salad orders in our group (not so difficult to remember). The salad bar on the lower level was okay, definitely does not offer as many choices as the upper level salad bar does. The lower level salad bar closes at 8PM or so, and any further salad orders are to be taken care of by the salad bar on the upper level. The place is quite large and can seat large groups. The prices are a little too high ($12 for such salad bar and otherwise about $20 a plate). They have an option of you making your own steak, but why go to a restaurant in the first place and pay premium for their meat? read more

Alexander's steakhouse normally prepares great meals. Unfortunately, that was not the case for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. Our waitress, while nice, neglected us. It took an hour to receive our meals. I expected the server to stop by our table and explain that the food would be arriving shortly, but this never happened. Once we received the food, one of the steaks was very much so over cooked. The manager did stop by the table to assess the issue. While he did refund the money for the one steak, I would've much preferred the food! Positives for the night include the salad bar and being seated without a reservation. The meat is good (not excellent), the ambiance is country, the wine chart is very simple, the beer selection is as anywhere else, the service is decent. The only thing I could recommend are the mushrooms. Now, if you want to host an event and you are looking for a corner where your party can mingle, this is where the value of the huge grills come handy. You can reserve a remote room outside the traffic of the other customers and carry your own party in semi-privacy. Unique and picturesque, located on the Illiinois River and you enter on Alexander Street in the warehouse district of the city. You'd never know this place was there unless someone told you and that's one of the first restaurants we were advised to visit upon moving to the Peoria area. Inside, it's huge with lofted ceilings and lots of old wood. Big grills stand in the middle of the first floor and you are given the choice of grilling your own steaks or they'll cook it for you for $1 more. Once we were inside, the smells were fabulous and the atmosphere fun and friendly. Standing around the grill with a drink talking to the other patrons is fun. We had good meals, not great and I think cooking it yourself is unique but something we can do ourselves. There's another restaurant in Wisconsin like this called Hookers and our kids always enjoyed cooking their own meat, choosing the selection etc. I think the best thing about Alexanders is the atmosphere, location and people. The atmosphere is unique. Not really accessible if you have difficulty with stairs. You can cook your own steak or PAY an extra $2.00 to have them cook your steak. I was still fine with the charge since I did not want to cook steaks for my whole family but I expected the steak to be cooked right. 1 out of the 5 steaks was actually cooked according to the way we ordered. Since it took almost an hour to get our steaks we didn't feel like waiting any longer for new steaks. On top of not being cooked properly my filet was CHEWY! They took off the cooking charge for one of the steaks. I have many more years of visiting of my kids at Bradley and I WILL NOT BE back. read more
