Schooners is a perfect little hole in the wall with a mighty fine kitchen! There's no frills to be had; the menu, while hilarious, is pretty basic. They do have something called a "horseshoe" though and the Illinois classic pork tenderloin. Food is exactly as described and a lot of it is hand/scratch-made! Everything hit the table hot and ready for consumption all at once, after hardly a wait at all. My party was six people and we ordered two orders of wings, a tenderloin, a ham horseshoe, onion rings, corn fritters, and mozzarella sticks. Everything was delicious. The tenderloin was perfectly crisp and hilariously huge. The horseshoe was messy and silly, a fun novelty as well. Service was absolutely great and the vibe inside amongst the patrons is jovial. I've been going to Schooners since I was probably younger than 5... so probably over 40 years. They've always had great food there. The wings, onion rings, burgers are all great. My son got a horseshoe and enjoyed it as well. The servers are always friendly, I'm not sure what her name is, but she's been our server the past 6 or so times I've been there and she's super nice. Always attentive and friendly overall. The atmosphere of the place... it's a bar/restaurant. It hasn't changed much in the time I've been going there aside from it being a non-smoking establishment now. Their beer garden area is great to eat at when it's nice outside as well (service is also very good out there). I don't have anything to complain about... I go there for nostalgia, the food, and to show my younger son that the old 'hole in the wall' places are some of the best to go to. read more

Review Visit: February 18th, 2015 You can have a schooner while on a Schooner! That word gets silly looking after you type it a few times. A schooner is a tall glass of beer and it is also a big ship with two or more masts. So you could, in theory, have a beer while on a ship. I think I have a new bucket list item! I have drove by this place many times and finally tried it out! I was split on whether it should be labeled a Bar/Pub or a Restaurant since it is a fine split on what it is, but a Restaurant is what it shall be labeled. So I have been here twice as of this writing. One visit was with a friend for a beer/burger lunch and the other time was with other times. On the lunch visit, my friend and I got a burger and beer to enjoy during lunch. I don't remember much about the burger, which is a good sign that it wasn't bad, but it didn't floor me, so I would say it did it's job of filling me up without disappointing me. The second visit was a full dinner with some friends. I think I got the burger again, which was great but nothing to write home about. Each time I have gone, we have had great service with a friendly staff. If I recall right, there isn't much nautical stuff inside, despite the name referring to a ship term. The interior is more of a normal pub feel. It has some sports and alcohol memorabilia up on the wall. Now the cool secret about this place is that it is attached to Gebby's Family Restaurant. From what I am told, Gebby serves breakfast and early lunch. Then they shut down and Schooner's takes over the lunch and dinner portion of the day. I will be doing a blog post for Gebby's here soon! Schooner's has pretty good food and is a friendly place to go. You wouldn't be disappointed if you and some friends swung by to catch some brews and sports while eating Now if you are fun, you could try and have a schooner while ON a Schooner. great experience we did the outdoor seating on a pleasant afternoon even with the outdoor seating our server was very attentive to our needs. The food came out quickly and the beer was ice cold. We ordered an appetizer of corn fritters to our surprise they where coated with powder sugar which is different but to be honest it was really good next we moved on to the entree I had to go with the Pork Tenderloin because after all they are famous for it and I will tell you it didn't disappoint big enough for 2 or in my case leftovers since I didn't want to share. The tenderloin is a typical local food and the approach is innovative: give someone a 18 oz (estimated) size, which is truly enough for 4 or more. let the customer choose the number of buns (we chose 4), and go to. at abut $10 it's not cheap, but on the other hand, you are not buying 1 but 5 sandwiches. The chicken was far less interesting. Some seem to like it, but it seemed neither novel or good to me. The atmosphere is good to great, and it's next door/connected by a walk way and probably financially to a diner next door, where they serve a junior version of the tenderloin. well worth visiting in Peoria. I have been coming to Schooners my entire life and it is certainly one of my favorite restaurant/bars in all of Peoria. The food is tasty, the beer is cold, and all of it is dirt cheap. This place does an excellent job of recruiting great help and I've never once had a bad experience with the service there. My only warning is that if you are a fancy person, this may not be the place for you. Schooners is a hometown bar that serves cold draft beer and tasty bar food. Holy delicious wings, how have I gone so long without experiencing this place?!?! Big mistake, HUGE. I was surprised how small the inside was, and also how busy it was on a Sunday mid-afternoon. One table was open and waiting for us though! Definitely a place full of regular, we got a lot of looks from the bar and a couple tables since we were new to the scene! Domestic beer only but it must be super cheap because we had 2 large beers, 2 small beers and a pound of wings and didn't even crack $20. The Wild sauce on the wings was just the exact right level of spice, not overly saucy and the wings were cooked to crispy perfection. On 3/13/21 I called to place an order and was on hold 15 minutes before the man came back to the phone to take my order and was laughing as he apologized. He told me it would be 20-25 minutes and asked me if I would be coming to get it. I told him yes, I'm placing the order aren't I? Long story short, I got there and and waited another 20 minutes. During the summer and fall, its the place to go following a softball or football game and even on a deadly cold day in the winter, like today, it hits the spot when you need a good ol' serving of grease. I went in with my wife and folks for a pork tenderloin and boy does it hit the spot. The tenderloin is served either with 1 bun or 2, and really, you could make 6 sandwiches out of one order. There is plenty of meat on these things, not just some thin loin breaded and fried...We also got some onion rings, which while a bit greasy, are the homemade type that makes you want to eat the little cracklins they leave behind. My favorite eatery in Peoria. I've been going here for 25+ years. I always get the screamer hot wings. Just the right amount of heat. Not overpowering. I had the tenderloin supreme with no lettuce. The wife and I split it. The tenderloins here are HUGE! The supreme come with pizza sauce, cheese, onions, and lettuce. No bun, it's like a pizza. Can't go wrong with the Schooner burger either. Caution: I may not be the best resource for this, because I basically only order the same thing over and over. Having said that, Schooners has the BEST garlic "wild" wings! I love garlic and I love hot, and I can't even do their hottest wing option (which I find is impressive). Side note: they are never stingy on the garlic.
