We have lived in a number of condos and co-ops in both NYC and DC and the Alexandria House is, by far, the best. All our exterior walls are glass and there are amazing views from just about every location in the building. The staff are wonderful and, yes, it can be expensive to live in a building with a 24-hour staff and the other amenities the Alexandria House offers, like the rooftop pool, garage parking, individual storage units, and the newly renovated gathering room on the 23rd floor. But the staff and the amenities are a big part of what makes living here so easy. They do the work we don't want to do. The routine balcony maintenance project (that absolutely has taken longer than planned because of weather extremes), the pending updating of the corridors, and the completed kitchen plumbing pipes relining, are great examples of the commitment the owners have to maintaining and improving this unique and special high rise. Having had numerous single family homes in the area, I do not find the maintenance here any more disruptive or expensive than taking care of my previous single family homes. Homes require maintenance.
Alexandria House units have gone up considerably in value as the Old Town North Arts District has begun to attract significant development dollars and the area is taking on a new vibrancy. Apartments in the building rarely come on the market and the ones that do, sell at, near and, even, above their asking prices.
We love the Alexandria House lifestyle. It's a very sociable building for those who choose to engage and it's in the absolutely best and most convenient location in the Washington, DC, area. Life in the Alexandria House and in the Old Town North Arts District just keeps getting better and better. We feel extremely lucky to live here. read more
