The pasta is at best disappointing. I've been here twice before years ago and this has become a tourist trap. We made a reservation in advance. I'm an old Hollywood fan and I wanted to visit Alfredo's because there are old celebrity photos all over the place. First impression: this restaurant feels so vintage and has good natural lighting. I ordered fettuccine alfredo, of course. They prep it tableside and I enjoyed watching the process. The pasta is deliciously cheesy. Alfredo's seem to have an good wine list, but this is not my area of expertise. The staff accidentally overcharged us (see my photo). I assumed the charge, which was more than we paid for food and drink, was some fancy Italian restaurant charge. I asked someone I know who has spent significant time in Rome about this and she said that it wasn't right at all. She can write in Italian and she sent Alfredo's an email on our behalf. They responded by email and my friend returned the next day to talk to the staff about it. Our server gave a dramatic reaction and refunded her in cash. I hope it was a mistake and nothing intentional, but I recommend you review your receipt because apparently they enter the service fee manually and that's how they overcharged us so. Note to Alfredo's: A friend has since informed me that the photo display outside of the restaurant doesn't show celebrity patron Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., who came with Mary Pickford and started that long history of celebrity visits, but his son Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. when he was dressed to look like one of his father's characters. Please look into this and amend it the next time you are going to update your sign out front. read more

Felt obligated to visit this place while in Rome due to it being the birthplace of Fettuccine Alfredo. Though I'll say that I was not all that impressed. The food was okay, but I've had better elsewhere throughout Italy and even in the US. read more

"Where there's smoke there's fire" Having read the mixed reviews we shouldn't have gone but a family friend recommended we go.... So we did for our last dinner out in Rome. We were SO disappointed. The atmosphere was beautiful, the history of the restaurant was charming - and that is where it ended. The food was overpriced compared to other restaurants in Rome and the food wasn't nearly as good. The Alfredo was WAY too cheesy (I agree with another review - only get 1 for the table... one bit will be more than enough). The food was way oversalted so you really didn't experience any unique flavors. Lastly they took our order in the beginning and we basically never saw our wait staff again. Our drinks were empty half way through and stayed that way. Upside - the desserts were great - specifically the Pavlova. read more

Don't bother eating here. It's the birth place of fettuccine Alfredo but it's ok. You can find better elsewhere. Waiters are rude and talk to customers in an arrogant and disrespectful way. They will try to add items to the bill without you knowing so if you do end up eating here check it adds up. read more

So, I've been here each time we come to Roma. This was our third visit. Third is the charm. We were terribly disappointed . We felt so pressured into getting the course dinner by our waiter to the point of feeling pressured and guilted if we missed it. So we gave in. What a terrible choice. The appetizer was only fair. The meatball was shredded meat. Uh . Ok the hi light why we come for the Fettuccine Alfredo. Table side. He made it great served it great. Tasted it ugh pasta mushy overdone and watery that it was fast dripping off the pasta he added to much water as the flavor was lacking it's unbelievable flavor. He noticed as nothing was hardly eaten off our plates. Asking nothing he cleared our plates. Dish two why may I as why would you serve your second course yet another pasta dish oh ok red sauce with meat so crunchy it turned to powder just about. Pasta was much to Al dente compared to the mush of the previous dish. Then an over fried lamb chop with no seasoning no sauce and chicory and dessert 80€. Yes that's right. We can not get over the disappointment. You ask why did we not say anything, we choose not to because the dining room we crowded and did not want to cause a scene as we don't want to cloud others experience. Because Alfredo's is an experience. Well for us it unfortunately was not. I did notice other waiters making the fettuccine perfectly and was zealous. I had made a reservation online for 6pm which was a mistake because that's what time they open. When we got there, there was a huge line mixed with people that had reservations and people that didn't. That obviously lead to some tension in the crowd with little direction from the staff. In my opinion, they should create a line for people with reservations and people without them. Once we were sat we were promptly greeted. We of course ordered the Alfredo and we also got a salmon appetizer, a tartare appetizer, fried artichokes, and pork chops. We were impressed with everything besides the Alfredo. It tasted like a mushy ball of cheese. The noodles basically turn into mush and there is wayyy too much cheese on it. Obviously this is why we came here so it was kind of a bummer but the service and the other dishes made up for it. This place was absolutely amazing. We had a reservation and we got there 30min early they sat us right away even tho they had a long line waiting with no reservations. We ordered the cheese sampler with pumpkin jam which was OMG delicious. Just try it! I promise you won't be dissatisfied. Wife & I had the Alfredo which was 10 out of 10 so yummy & cheesy. The noodles are a lil softer that I would've liked but still good. We had a bottle of moscato for $26 it was delicious!!! I totally recommend this place it definitely beats Olive Garden. read more

I had a bad case of food poisoning. Not to enter into detail, but it let me out of combat for the entire day today, after having dinner there last night. I wasn't able go to visiting any sites or eating anything. The whole day in bed at the hotel. I am sure it was the lamb from the tasting menu, as it was the one I had to deal with the whole day. The food was okay. Not bad, but nothing to rave about. The 1 star is for our waitress. (She didn't say her name but her hair was blond and wrapped up in a bun) was not friendly or helpful AT ALL. She made the sign of the cross after greeting us to a co-worker acting as if she needed to say a prayer to take care of us. (3 people in our party are bartenders/ service industry so it's not like we were going to be a complicated table.) She never asked if we wanted a 2nd round of martinis or more food when I said we wanted more, and barely even paid attention to us or helped us until the bill came to take our credit card. We asked for more water and oil for the bread and she ignored both requests. A 2nd waitress came over with a smile, swapped our plates out and took our 2nd round of pasta order. She had a longer braided ponytail and answered our questions gracefully and picked up her coworkers slack for-sure. I thanked the 2nd waitress at the end for fixing it but the first one was rude enough to make all of us uncomfortable. Definitely not the best birthday dinner for our mother and definitely put a damper in our evening. Didn't bother staying for birthday dessert. Disappointed to say the least. read more

I arrived at this restaurant with my son just a few hours after we had eaten a full course meal at another restaurant. It's our very first day in Rome: However, my son stated he really wanted to try the pasta here. As you know, teenage boys are like a dump truck...they can eat, eat, eat. I decided I would have a cocktail while he enjoyed the pasta. After taking my son's order and my drink order the server told me I had to also order an entree. However, it does not say this anywhere on the menu, website, in front the restaurant, etc. Also, the place has to go orders and does home deliveries, so what was the issue? It's not like I was not going to purchase anything at all. I typically have 2 cocktails in a dining setting which would have easily equaled the cost of a meal. However, I refused to purchase food when I truly was not hungry. The server's whole demeanor changed when I explained that I would not be eating. He could not give me a reason why I had to purchase my own meal. I assured him I wasn't eating from my son's plate either. I was NOT hungry. He was rude, rolled his eyes at me and at that point I calmly told him we would be leaving and I offered to pay for the still water. He said "no it's whatever, rolled his eyes and walked alway:" I am definitely NOT coming back here again. This server needs to learn better customer service. Also, is this how PAYING customers are treated? Or just tourists that look like me? I do NOT recommend this place anyway, way lower reviews than i expected for all the hype.... We split an order of Alfredo 5 ways because we just wanted a taste. The noodles are so delicate they practically melt in your mouth and the Parmesan flavor is strong but delicious. Definitely regret not trying out the other pastas after tasting the Alfredo. Beef entrecôte was delicious and definitely recommend the calamari. If you want a solid piece of tiramisu this is the place to get it at! After finishing probably one of the best plates of pasta I've ever had, I ordered a serving of their Tiramisu to satisfy my after dinner sweets craving and let me just say it was delicious! The cream is on the fluffier side if you prefer that and there was just a small hint of espresso. Overall a 8.75/10. I prefer my tiramisu with more espresso flavor but that's coming from an avid double shot drinker! Highly recommend ordering a piece of tiramisu to end off a perfect dinner here. read more

After a couple of locals recommended this place, we decided to give it a try. Really wish we didn't listen! The ambiance was nice, place was clean, and the staff were friendly. However, we were disappointed with the food. Not only were they pricier than other places we've been to, they were not as good. We had the fettuccine (decided to try it since it's the birth place for fettuccine), seafood ravioli, fried meatballs, and clams with spaghetti. The ravioli and spaghetti were kind of cold when they served them to us, which was a nuisance. Food was bland except for the fettuccine, which was salty, perhaps from all that cheese. This is THE original Alfredo place, and I'd highly recommend you review it based on the Alfredo. All the other items were decent, but, the Fetticine Alfredo was creamy, a bit tangy, and not as heavy as the American fettuccine Alfredo is. They make it in front of you, and there are tentatively plenty of people trying to get in without reservations (but they can't) so please get a reservation before showing up. They give you the history of the food while going over it, and seeing all the photos makes you feel like you've transported back into the past 30-40 years ago. The one thing is when you have multiple people, just remember one person gets more sauce, and the saucier dish is not as tasty as the one with less sauce. read more

The setting was okay -- we ate outside, but it was a fairly high traffic area with cars going down streets on either side of us. Service was fairly typical for Rome, not bad but not great. The food was so-so. For the self-proclaimed "home of fettuccine alfredo," the fettuccine alfredo was, honestly, pretty bad. The rest of the pre-set menu was okay but didn't come anywhere near the quality of our meals at other local restaurants the two previous nights. As mentioned, we did the pre-set menu and prepaid online. When the meal was over, they charged us for our two glasses of wine and two glasses of Fanta (€6 for a soft drink!), and then they tacked on a previously non-disclosed €40 "service" fee. A dinner for four was €470, and it was half as good as the €100 dinners we've been enjoying. read more

We chose the Roma tasting menu: Meatballs were delicious, the original fettucine alfredo was soo cheesy and good, the tomato pasta with bacon was delicious, the meats were ok (smaller portion) and dessert was not great (bread was really hard and we ended up eating just the whipped cream) . Reservation was made at 9:30 pm, we did not get seated until 9:45 pm. From the moment we got seated we didn't feel welcomed, they literally sat 3 of us at the very back corner at 2 person table, feeling very very crammed. I ordered the Alfredo pasta, my partner had Cacio e Pepe and both did not sit well in our stomachs. Our friend ordered lamb, which was supposed to be cooked medium, but it was cooked well done. First off make sure to get a reservation. This place is very popular so there was a line outside the building. The service was good, took about 45 minutes from sitting down to get my food. They brought a wine expert to help chose which I appreciated. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo of course. It was pretty good, as an American the flavor was not was I was used to but I can appreciate a good dish. If you are from the USA, it is going to have a different flavor than you are used to but it is tasty. One thing you should know is it is quite pricy, but if you are in the budget for a restaurant like this I would recommend it. Also, if you are coming here make sure to be very hungry. If I could I would leave 0 Stars. This was the most underwhelming meal I have ever been excited for. We were recommended by our taxi driver on our way into Rome. When I made the reservation it forced me into selecting the courses menu at 80euro a person. Of the 5 courses 3 of them were fried.and the other two were some of the worst pastas I have had. The service was as bad as the food and they charged an extra 33 euro for a service fee. The final course was a single lamb rib deep fried like a chicken nugget. AVOID THIS PLACE read more
