Our Brittany had a growth on the roof of his mouth; and recently, our Red Setter had mammary gland tumors needing removal. If they are busy when you call, leave a message and you will always get a call back. I feel like they really care about the comfort of my dogs, too. I genuinely do not understand how this veterinary clinic has a 4.6-star rating. My experience here with my dog Theo was extremely disappointing and stressful. I brought Theo in for a rabies shot because his 1-year rabies vaccine had expired. Before the appointment, I made it very clear that Theo is a reactive and anxious dog. I explained that he does not bite and that he is comfortable with me handling him, and I specifically asked if they could show me how to do basic handling like taking his temperature so we could make future visits less stressful. Instead of working with us or even attempting to build any level of comfort, the doctor skipped everything and went straight to the shot. What made the situation much worse was the behavior of the front desk woman (who appears to be the doctor's wife). She unnecessarily followed the doctor into the exam area even though she was not assisting with anything and only increased the stress level in the room. She yelled at my dog, got in his face pointing her finger and saying "No Theo, no," and made multiple annoyed comments about him barking. Theo was clearly scared, not aggressive, and her behavior showed a complete lack of understanding of fear-based reactivity and anxious dogs. Yelling at a frightened dog is not appropriate or professional in a veterinary setting. When I asked if they had treats to help distract him during the shot, she acted annoyed, went to get something, came back, and never even gave it to me. They then instructed me to hold my dog in a tight chokehold while they administered the shot, which I have never been asked to do at any other veterinary clinic. Normally, vets take the time to calmly approach, build trust, and handle dogs in a way that reduces fear and stress. To make matters worse, they administered the 3-year rabies vaccine even though I clearly and specifically requested the 1-year rabies vaccine. This was communicated beforehand and ignored. Overall, this visit felt rushed, dismissive, and unprofessional. There was no effort to understand or properly handle an anxious dog, and the environment felt hostile rather than supportive. Veterinary clinics should be safe and compassionate places for animals, especially those who are fearful or reactive, and unfortunately this experience was the complete opposite. I will not be returning and would strongly encourage other owners of anxious or reactive dogs to look elsewhere. Oh and in addition to my experience, a family member of mine also had a very concerning visit at this same clinic. They brought their dog in because the dog had a strong, unusual smell even after being bathed and wanted to rule out any underlying health issue. Instead of performing a proper assessment, the doctor immediately insisted it was the dog's anal glands and expressed them. What made the situation extremely uncomfortable was that both the doctor and the front desk woman repeatedly tried to get my family members to smell the anal gland fluid, even after they clearly stated that the smell they were concerned about was completely different. Rather than listening to the concern or exploring other possible causes, they continued to insist it was the anal glands and focused on trying to prove their point. The dog already has its anal glands expressed regularly, yet there was no effort to properly evaluate other potential health issues or investigate further. My family members ultimately left and took their dog to a different veterinary clinic because they felt their concerns were being dismissed and the situation had become unprofessional and uncomfortable. After hearing their experience and going through my own, it seems to reflect a pattern of dismissive behavior and lack of proper communication and care. Pet owners deserve to be listened to and treated with professionalism and respect when bringing concerns about their animals' health. read more

So very grateful for Dr Mangat and Algona Animal Hospital for their peaceful clinic, expertise, friendliness, loving and gentle care for my 16 year old cat Panda. Just moving here from Colorado, Panda has been over grooming himself, licking hair gone on his inner thighs, possibly picking up on my stress for recent medical issues. I called yesterday and was able to get in early today, thankfully. From their first touch, I could tell Panda felt safe and in the best of hands and care. Panda's response was still, quiet and agreeable, unlike his other three vets in the past. Dr Mangat handled Panda like a cat whisperer, giving him a thorough examination, taking blood and updating his vaccinations. I have been a neighbor of theirs for a few years now. My dogs previously went to the clinic type of vets because I assumed they were cheaper. Boy was I wrong. I called Algona Animal Hospital and they got me in on the weekend to get yearly check ups and vaccinations for my dogs. It was the same price range that I paid at the other place. I was there for about 45 minutes total. The doctor and his front desk lady were very sweet and caring. They don't always answer their phones because it is just the 2 of them. Wonderful spot, we came in and were seen instantly. My little French was about 3 months old and gel on the grass from my lap. I panicked and thought she either broke or sprain a leg. I rushed down to AAH and we were seen immediately with open arms, zero wait. The place is clean, easy to find, most importantly run by very caring and nice people. Dr and his wife were really great with my baby, I was fully confident in the care and treatment. They advised me I could leave her but I preferred to stay there with her, that wasn't an issue either. Only thing is I wish I could or utilized a coupon, but what I paid was fair! If a need should ever arise, this would be by go to spot. Our dog got a pretty big dog bite from our other dog and noticed that he was warmer than usual. We called several animal hospitals to see if they can accommodate a walk-in, however, most of them had wait times of 1+ hour and ridiculous vet exam prices. That is until we came across Algona Animal Hospital. The lady on the phone said to bring our dog in right away so he can be seen. We were seen right away and the vet fee was super reasonable for the fact that it was a walk-in appt. Dr. Mangat is very personable, patient and friendly. He prescribed antibiotics and pain medication for our pup and was very thorough with his exam. My hubby and I really appreciate Dr. Mangat and his wife for letting us be seen, especially 15 minutes before they close. We even got a follow up call a few weeks later asking how our dog is doing. How amazing is that?! We had such a great experience with them and even though we're a 20 minute drive away from the clinic, the drive is worth it and Algona Animal Hospital will be our vet for our fur babies! read more

Our little fur baby was crying in pain and we didn't know what was wrong so originally we went to sumner animal hospital but the wait was at least 4 hours!! That's crazy.. Thank God for Yelp!! I searched and found Algona Animal Hospital!! Drove there in about 8 mins and walked in and they were about to close. Dr said it's ok, I will help you! He quickly turned everything back on and looked at our little pup. He was so great and took his time to look at everything. Our fur baby is a toy multipoo so she is all of 3.4 pounds. He was very gentle and caring with her. He told us that she has an ear infection and have her some ear drops and a pain shot. He even sent us home with medicine. He was beyond great!! I will always come back here if ever I need to bring any of our fur babies. Best thing that deserves a 10+ star rating is ... he called us the next day to ask how she was doing!! I have been seeing Dr. Mangat since 2005 when he worked at another practice. Even though his new practice is a bit further, I still take my pets to him. During a time of financial hardship, he was kind enough to help with a surgery that my dog needed badly. This shows how caring he really is when it comes to the pets he treats and the customers that come in. And when it came time to let go of a dog I had for 14 years and later a cat in kidney failure, the compassion him and his wife showed was of great comfort. You could tell by his actions he cared for the pet even to the end and that it effected him as well. For this, I will continue to use his services and would recommend him highly. read more

My dog was hit by a car and I called them around 6:50pm. They told me to bring him in and treated him until well past their 7pm closing time. They were friendly and the vet took his time to explain every step and procedure. I'm not sure if they're an emergency hospital, but they did an outstanding job. I took my little dog 10 lbs tops covered in blood and possibly a broken neck. I ran in the door in quite a hurry, the woman behind the counter looks at me. I told her my dog was attacked and possible has broken her neck. Now mind you my shirt is covered in blood and obviously this is urgent. Her response was well the dr is with someone right now, you'll have to take him somewhere else!!!!!!!!!!! I am somewhat new to the area so I said where do I take here? Her response, there is one in Sumner off of Auburn way!!!!!! Seriously!!!!! Then she says you should go quickly, she doesnt look good. Well the 15 minutes it will take me to drive there hopefully does not kill my dog after taking the time to GPS the place. As of now. My dog is in surgery at another animal hospital, it took 2 hrs to get her stable just to be able to go I to surgery. Thanks for nothing!!! I have a usual vet in federal way that I go to, but I woke up one Sunday morning recently to my dog not putting any weight on one of her front legs and our vet isn't open on Sundays! We were supposed to go out of town that day so I was FREAKING out! Mostly I was afraid my baby had broken her leg! I called a couple other vets in federal way, they were either closed or couldn't see us until much later in the day. When I called Algona I was ecstatic they could see us right away! I was greeted by (I believe) the owners wife, she got my information and showed me to a room. I then saw the vet tech who was very pleasant and nice, then the doctor came in as we all examined my dog thoroughly (my dog is very nervous and not good with strangers, especially touching her) but they were very understanding and let me help hold her so there wasn't any issues! We couldn't find anything externally that was hurting her, so they gave us some pain killers and anti-inflammatory. My dog also has cushings which is very $$$ so I really appreciate when they only charged me for 1/2 the dr's visit because it was fast (normally $65) they had the medication right there for us to take and after the visit and medication my total was only $85!!! We opted to not do x-rays right then because she didn't have issues with touching and twisting if her foot/leg like you might expect. The dr suspected a sprain most likely. The next day my dogs toe was red a very swollen. I was glad we had the anti-inflammatory AND the pain killers,the pain killers made her drowsy and really helped me keep her off her feet! (She was trying to tri-pod around so quickly she'd trip and fall) after the 3rd day my dog was looking better and putting a little weight on her foot. It was all smooth sailing from there out. I can't say how thankful I am that Algona Vet was there to help us! They also called the next day and checked in with me to see how things were going! If it wasn't for my living further away I would switch and make them my full time animal health care facility! If you're in the area please go see them! read more

Our dog was not feeling well at all on a Saturday, and the clinic we had been to before could not fit her in. They said that Algona was the clinic that they recommend, so we called them. This is a great place. I really trust them with our pets. They are very kind and answer ALL of our questions and make sure that everything is covered. More importantly, our 2 house cats feel very at ease in their presence which is very odd for one of them who is scared of strangers. Our ferrell cat is afraid of everyone but my wife and I and they have taken just as good of care with him as our other two. my fur baby pit has been patience since algona animal hospital opened almost seven years ago. it's the best thing that ever happened to the city of algona and the surrounding cities. it's a great hospital it's family owned and they care..the doctor is amazing just amazing goes through every detail with you if it's something that's needed he will advise you that you know you should do this or if it's not necessarily needed he'll also advise you other ways that maybe help keep the cost down and he runs it with his wife and the wife works in the front office and she also is amazing i have a pitbull and he has a lot of allergies and she can squeeze him in either that day or the next day, i love that she can do this because it takes less stress it takes the stress away from knowing that your baby sick and they can't talk to you and tell you why but the doctors there to tell us why. read more

I went to Algona Animal Hospital for the first time today. I absolutely loved it. They were so nice and friendly there, I can't say enough about either of them. The place I had been taking my dog to in Kent was always so crowded and took forever, especially on a Saturday and because of their hours and my work schedule, Saturday was the only day I could go. At Algona, I was able to make an appointment and we were the only ones there. They have great hours and I'm able to take my dog there after work, if I need to.
