Seven times out of ten, we have been disappointed and frustrated, but they are often available in emergencies, which is appreciated. They will scan chips of found dogs, which has helped us significantly with reuniting families in the area. Another pro is that if they do not have the exact amount/ bottle of meds needed, they will send you with more rather than less. Unfortunately, the staff is extremely disorganized, always late, and several times we've had to come back and pay for a second appointment there or elsewhere because our animals hadn't received everything they needed. What is offered and the price will vary based on which staff person you are talking to. Anticipate being charged more than quoted. If someone doesn't show up for work, everyone is going to hear about it - sounds like a pretty toxic working environment and that the staff does not get along. **Beware** We had a horrible experience taking our cat to this vet for a routine teeth cleaning. They pulled four of his teeth without calling me or asking me first. Actually they didn't tell me this information until I went to pick him up and asked about the extra charges on my bill. I was absolutely horrified. I understand extra things may need to be done during a dental cleaning but I was assured during the initial exam that I would get a call if anything by at all extra was recommended. Completely trust worthy! Our family has been with McMullen small Animal hospital who have provided care for our puppies, to end of life. Dr. Dan is a no nonsense right to the point of the good bad and ugly. His heart is pure gold and staff has always been kind and compassionate. They are mindful concerning costs, Nothing added that is not needed. He is the "Dr. Pole of Orting". The office may be busy at times, Emergencies always take priorities as they should. I'm actually very disappointed with how the vet management handles and addresses an incident. My dog was given a cocktail of vaccines by staff members who are clearly not fully trained or aware how to administer shots. My dachshund was injected 5 times in the same spot with different shots. The person giving the shots had no idea what to mix when making the shots and injecting my dog with them. Which caused him to bleed and anal gland. A few hours later I had to rush my dog to the emergency vet and the doctor was alarmed with what my dog was given an how it was given. I do not believe the techs here have a license so they should not be giving shots. Ive been bringing my dogs here for a long time and will not be referring anyone here or coming back. read more

Can I post 0 stars? Let's start by saying I have been in the Pet business for over 50 years. I have been on both sides of every counter in both service and retail. I have worked with over 25,000 dogs and their owners along with multiple other species and their owners. This means I have worked with multiple vets throughout my lifetime. I would have to say this was probably the worst experience I've had. I actually had a friend that I referred there have an appointment before mine and she came away crying from hers. So I was very skeptical when I came in. I don't have a lot to say about the staff other than they could have introduced themselves when they came out to the car to bring us in to our appointment. The room that they put us in to wait in was in the middle of the traffic area behind the desk. I was not told the doctor's name I had to ask who was going to be seeing us. And when he came in, he also didn't introduce himself. I felt like he really didn't want to be doing his job anymore. This was my dog's first time seeing him, and he didn't even examine my dog by looking in her ears or taking her temperature. I had mentioned some things I wanted him to look at and the first thing was, he started looking at the wrong eye, and when I told him it was the other one he said, that the other eye look like the problem to him. All he did was keep telling me about products that I should use. It was almost like he didn't even want to touch my dog. (She is short haired and clean.) Also while we were waiting I looked down at the floor which had crevices where if an infected animal spilled blood, vomit or diarrhea on the floor there would be no way to clean it up or correctly disinfect the area. I kept my dog beside me as I didn't need her sniffing around everywhere. Wasted money unless I say well at least I know where I don't want to go now. read more

I just want to preface this by saying that I've brought 6 different animals here for wellness exams, spay/neuter surgeries, X-rays, etc. Im just like y'all & like to come to the reviews for a place just to get an idea of what I'm walking into and/or the expectations. I've always had a good experience with the vet and staff, very straight forward and to the point, AFFORDABLE, doesn't bombard you with additional services unless you inquire about it and they always mean WELL. If I could leave zero stars I would. I had an appointment at 10:40am and was told to wait while they took care of other patients. We ended up waiting almost two hours in an examination room for the Dr to see my dog who had an open wound on his eye. We ended up not being seen and left due to them saying my dog's injury wasn't as severe to be seen right away and that we would have to wait. My boyfriend who was at work called and asked about it and the gentleman on the phone was incredibly rude, saying that we would have to wait our turn and if we would want other animals that had more severe injuries to wait so our dog could be seen first even though we were already waiting two hours to be seen. I am incredibly disappointed in this animal hospital and their staff for their lack of empathy and concern for my animal. Do better. read more

This place is economical and does things differently from big corporate money charging places. I called about a week earlier and was given a date and time for arrival. Upon arriving you sit in the car until the vet tech comes and gets you. Dr. Emerson is not your ordinary talk story vet. He's a no nonsense vet that gets to the issue and tries to solve it all the while explaining to you what he is doing. My dogs were a bit apprehensive at first as it is their first time which is understandable, but they warmed up to his quiet and effective way of practicing vet medicine and wagged their tails out the door. I would give above 5 Stars if possible! Dr. Emerson is a wonderful teacher and explains all information regarding the vet visit and anything you. need going forward with you pet's care. He does not waste your time and gets right to the point of the visit which is very appreciated. If your pet needs something right away, he takes care of it and does not ask you to come back for another appt. ie: my young German Shepherd came in for updates for her vaccines and while there I mentioned that I felt a lump on her shoulder. Of course I suspected cancer. He did not ask me to come back for an excision as I have had some vets do. He took care of her right there on the exam table. He asked me first if I wanted to stay in the room or step out if I was queasy. I said no I wasn't and so he Numbed it, excised it, cut the lump into and looked at it. It was a sebaceous cyst.. Not Cancer! It was straight forward, I was holding her the entire time. Normally, vets will take the pets "in the back" and do the procedure so you never know for sure. No sending it to pathology so you have to wait for an answer not to mention the cost of the labs. I am sure that if he suspected something worse that a fatty lump, he would send it off for a pathology lab to look at it but being a retired nurse, I too could see it and recognized it as a sebaceous cyst. I have taken so far 2 cats to him and 2 dogs, one a puppy. He gave me all the feeding information I needed for feeding, wormed him and gave his vaccines. Quick but in a caring fashion. It is less stressful for the pet that way. Puppy left the office wagging his tail and got a treat "to go". :). So if you are looking for a caring and straight forward Vet, you should consider Dr. Emerson at McMillan Vet Clinic on the Orting Hwy. My small, senior dog is very sweet and friendly and has never snapped at anyone but she did with this vet. He was very rough with her, and very gruff/rude to me. I've taken Noee to McMillian Vet. Since I got her in 2019, had her spade, chipped, and all her shots. Then had her teeth cleaned and some pulled. She always gets excellent care and his prices are reasonable compared to my last Vet. I will take her back in August for her annual check up and shots. read more

The staff was super nice. The Dr however wasn't. He made me feel stupid for coming in about my dogs limited mobility saying she just sprained her leg and gave me a prescription. Wouldn't do an Xray. I went to a different vet and come to find out my dog was suffering from arthritis. She now takes a monthly injection of Librela that has changed her life. I would recommend this Vet office to anyone I know. I have a 4 year old Chihuahua mix who is not the friendliest pup out there. Although it's not uncommon to have an unfriendly dog, every vet handles it differently. I love that McMillin is not a branch of practices. It's a singular smaller practice. The staff are intentional, the Doctor is accommodating, straight forward and very trustworthy. Prices are great here, very affordable. Despite some reviews saying Dr. Emerson isn't the most chatty or outgoing guy you've met, he really does seem to enjoy his job and care about his patients. It's been a year since we took our cat to this clinic. The only reason we did was because our regular vet was still not letting us go in with our cat and we wanted to be with her. The Dr was very abrupt. Not at all caring. We brought her in because she was losing weight. He asked questions but didn't even take her temperature. He felt her body and that was it. We also had her mats combed out. I was surprise that the Dr did it instead of the tech. were shocked at rough he was with her, as if he didn't want to bother. There's plenty more but that's enough. Took my dog in for hot spot that was not responding to home treatment. Dr was to the point and did not try and sell me on a bunch of unnecessary things. Price was economical... a lot of the bad reviews I see are because this vet is not talkative he is very to the point not overly friendly BUT he did answer all my questions and got us in and out which I appreciate. I recently took my two puggles (ages 12 and 13) in for a dental cleaning. I am extremely happy with the results of their cleaning and the whole experience with the doctor and staff at McMillan. Everyone was very kind and reassuring when I told them that I was nervous about having my dogs under anesthesia due to their ages! They called me as soon as they were done with the cleaning to let me know that everything went well and that I could pick up my girls whenever I was ready. Took our dog in for a check up. She wasn't eating. Had diarrhea issues, bloody nose and had lost a lot of weight. Dr. Did a not so very thorough check and only did blood work, checked her heart, said she had a slight murmur but wasnt concerned. Prescribed antibiotics based on the blood work and sent us on our way. 3 days later we were heading to an emergency vet clinic because she was having breathing issues. A few test later our dog was diagnosed with cancer. All the signs were there but McMillan didn't seem to really care. No other testing offered, only blood work. Not the 1st time we've gone there and had a very wrong diagnosis for our pets. We will not be returning to them ever. read more

We took our new Lab here last month. We're new to the area. One of our other pups had a back injury and we tried a place closer to our home when we first moved in. Felt like we were just a number.McMillin followed the same Covid protocol. We were just in for first vaccinations but the person who came to our car for Emmi was super nice and asked the vet our questions then returned with answers. They were also willing to clip her nails since groomers weren't working. The other place said they would clip our Doxies, charged us but didn't clip them. We have been going to this veterinary clinic for many years. And I have always been very happy with the doctor and the stuff. And I have felt that we have always gotten excellent care. However, the last year or so I do not feel that the level of care is the same. And I find it very upsetting in the reviews that I have read that I woman who posted a review had a pet that had a dental emergency and they were able to get in and get the situation resolved within 2 hours. I call this morning upset thinking my cat is dying and they will not let me come in they are full and they do not take emergency or urgent care appointments. How did the one woman who posted a review about a dental emergency with her animal get in within 2 hours the situation resolved and I can't get in and I think my cat is dying????? This is the WORST vet I've ever been to. I brought my puppy here because she was nauseous and I was worried something was wrong. The woman at the front desk was nice however the veterinarian was VERY RUDE and should not be a veterinarian due to the fact that he cannot deal with people. He gave my puppy two shots one was for her nausea and the other I still don't know, he also did an X-Ray which was unnecessary.(my puppy was fine later that night). Low quality service for a low price. If you are okay with your animal and yourself getting treated like a piece of garbage go on ahead and go here, but I would never recommend this place in a MILLION YEARS. Dr. Emerson is the best! My 5 month old puppies were sick. I was worried and wasn't sure what to do. It was Sunday. I figured I'd have to wait or go to the ER. I called his cell phone. He called me right back and told me what to do. I stopped by the next day to pick up some medication and the puppies recovered beautifully. What vet calls on a Sunday? Terrible experience. Took my pup in for her last vaccination. I wanted to transfer her records so they were on file. The receptionist did not know the email address and didnt seem to care. So I wait for the dr. He comes from the back to the lobby holding my pups vaccine and looks at me and asks if I can hold her down. No introducing himself to myself or my pet. (Still dont know his name). He stabs my girl in the back without even pinching her skin. My pup started screaming. He stopped and left the needle in her. Then grabbed it. All while my poor pup was screaming. After it was done I was traumatized and said how she had never reacted that way to a vaccination. The receptionist said it was a 'defence mechanism'. Absolutly was not a defence mechanism. I was going to start taking our fur babies there since it's so close to home. I will not be taking any of my pets there. EVER. What happens behind closed doors? Save yourself the money and anxiety and take your pet somewhere else where they are not treated like a piece of trash. Not sure how they are still in business. This is a reasonable priced vet that is straight forward and doesn't do unnecessary test or give unnecessary medications. We have 4 pets and we bring them all to this clinic. This is a hometown vet who yes is a little old school but is very reasonable with pricing and very knowledgeable! DO NOT!!!!! I REPEAT do not take your animals to this place. I have been a licensed VTT for over 20 years and I would not tell my worst enemy to their own there. They have "killed" or "we are so sorry we dont know what happened" just going in for a check up. This happened to my Aunt when they first moved to the area. I wanted to give an honest review of this veterinary hospital after my two visits. Dr. Emerson is a Veterinarian who has been practicing animal medicine for many years. This is his practice. When an animal is brought into a clinic it's usually under special circumstances where your pet is ill or injured, or could be just for a checkup. Going to the vet for most pets is very stressful, so for mine, I want a good experience for them. Dr. Emerson may be skilled but he lacks empathy and some beside manner. He went straight to the exam and seemed a little short with his tone. I had never encountered a vet like this. Every vet shows care for their patient but it seemed as if my dog was "just a dog" and that was even stated by him. My concern for my pet was strong and I was looking for some comforting feedback but instead felt belittled in a way because my dog "is just a dog" and I shouldn't be so emotionally attached. I thought perhaps maybe it was just an off day, however I have read other reviews on a local site with many stating the same as my experience. I went back for another appointment only because I needed medication and didn't want to pay a set up fee at another vet office just to get medication. I felt uneasy about the dosage as it seemed extreme. I called and they confirmed that I should just give my dog all 5 pills at once to treat the issue. I still didn't feel right so I contacted my old vet up in Snohomish and they were alarmed and said the dosage exceeded 4x what I needed and that I should be cautious in the future with medication fills at this location. I went back into the office to express my concern, at that point they discovered I was in fact correct. I got a quick apology from the Vet and was refunded the money I overplayed. There was no sincerity to his apology. Another staff member seemed irritable that I had brought this to their attention. I was livid because my small dog who weighed 7 pounds was prescribed medication for a 75 pound dog. This could have been extremely harmful if not deadly. I was very calm and polite during this entire process when I'm sure many would not have been. I previously wrote a review in hopes that this will be brought to their attention but nobody had ever reached out or apologized or addressed the matter. This is my updated review. If you love your pet and are emotional and concerned about their well-being, this may not be a place for you to go because you will not receive the compassionate care you'd expect from a vet office. I truly hope that there is change as I have read a lot of similar complaints in the town feed about this location. It's just not for everyone and every pet. On the plus side though, he does offer vaccination appointments on a certain day of the week which saves money in not having to pay for a full appointment but just for the vaccinations.
