The selection of meat and seafood is definitely narrower than at the other market and the selection of canned goods and frozen items also seems smaller. But it's better organized so you're more likely to find what you need. (Try finding Szechuan peppercorns at the other place... I know where they are now but they're definitely not where you expect.)

We came on a late…read moreweekday evening (7PM) which turned out to be their one-month anniversary, and found it was completely deserted. This is a huge building that once housed the "Kosher Price Chopper" (which moved down the street). We passed several Asian and one large Indian specialty supermarkets on the drive over and I don't know if the area really needed another store this large. Time will tell. Upon walking into the large former produce area, we found gobs of empty space and a small selection of produce that didn't wow us. I suspect they have slower turnover then larger stores, and as a result much of the fruits and vegetables looked tired. They did have a nice selection of hot peppers. Also, upon entering I saw several signs advertising their pizza (!) and suggesting we order it while we do your shopping and then take it home to eat. I was certainly hopping that there would be some nice hot prepared food at this supermarket but I was not expecting pizza. If there were other options I didn't see them. There were two employees working in the pizza area, and I saw no other ones at all until we checked out. Moving to the back, all of their freezer and cooler sections appeared to be on although most were empty. Their meat section contained a giant liver, a huge leg of something (goat or lamb?) and little else. Maybe by 7PM it is all sold out, or perhaps it isn't a big part of their business. It seems odd to power up lots of empty coolers. We went up and down their grocery aisles and picked a bunch of things to try (pasta, prepared sauces, cookies, frozen samosas, naan, etc.) and in the process were completely perplexed. It seemed like the same items were on multiple shelves, with only the brand names being different. For example, we found Samosas in three different aisles. Are they sorted by religious distinction (Halal maybe), by brand name, or by ingredients? We don't know, and there were no staff to ask. Their ice cream selection looked pretty cool (see what I did there) and if it were hotter outside we would have bought some. The bakery section didn't have much in the way of specialty international baked goods, and for the restaurant section we were later told it is sometimes open if the owner shows up. In all, it was a very awkward shopping experience. We had lots of questions about products but no one was there to help us. The entire store could be condensed into about a third of the space which would make shopping quicker and easier. Instead, it felt like walking into an abandoned business. It was also colder than I would have liked, but I can't fault them for not turning the heat up for literally one set of customers. Will I be back? Maybe, but I need to give them time to grow. Until then, there is another international supermarket on the same street just a little bit east which I like a lot better.

The management has recently changed. You do get to buy stuff that you wouldn't find at Walmart or a local grocery store that are used in a South Asian household. My family goes there every Thursday as they get fresh vegetables and meat. The vegetables are purchased in NYC and brought here. You get the green chilis that are spicier than the one in your local store....I addition you get to buy tropical fruits jack fruits, green pumpkin, lychee and guava. I go there for my Mukwas (mouth freshener...soamp), Thums up (Indian soda) and mango kulfi.

The way you buy your meat here is to place an order through a window, which doesn't appeal to me because I like to see it first. Meat prices are also a bit high. But for other South Asian items this is going to be my go-to.

There's more parking in the back. It's a lot larger and homier than it looks on the outside. The Spring & Summer months are especially nice, they have little seedlings of starter plants on the pavement out front & a community cork board up front. There's a lot of selection of frozen mandoo (dumplings), Melona ice cream bars, fresh Kimchee, soft tofu, a small but fresh section of vegetables (chives, oyster mushrooms, napa cabbage, burdock root), LOTS of family packs of Instant Korean Ramen (Ramyun), a Back room of Korean Home Goods (decent prices, nice glass tupperware, the have THE green "Italian bath towel" scrubby mitts for $2.99! THE best exfoliation that Instagram tries to sell similar mitts for *much* more). There's aisles of snacks & candy, cooking sauces, flour & yam noodles, Korean gim/seaweed, Chili powder, Frozen seafood & rice cakes, bags of rice, dried kelp & anchovies for stock, barley & Cintron tea, banana yogurt drinks. The prices are a little higher than other Asian Markets in the Capital Region, so I usually just go for specific items: Yam Noodles for a Japchae recipe, Chapaghetti black bean Instant Ramen, a seasoned Seaweed crumble topping for rice, A small pack of Chinese-Korean black bean sauce for JaJang noodles (perfect size for a solo chef, haven't seen this size portion anywhere else). Oh and Yes! You can buy a Neoguri Ramen & Chapaghetti Ramen and make some noodles like the film Parasite. ...didn't see if they had frozen beef. Not sure if it's due to the pandemic, but sometimes they're out of stock on things, so it's better to call ahead. I realized that Wal-M--t carries Shin Black Ramen now because they were always out. That changed today when the female proprietor accused me of stealing. Several times she asked me if I needed something before following me to the back of the store to ask me again. Her reasoning was "I was returning to the same spot several times" -- it was twice (I couldn't decided which size ziplock bags I needed). Both my partner and I felt very uncomfortable and decided to put our items back and leave. The female proprietor followed outside to say we could still shop there. I responded she made us feel unwelcome and we left. About 20 minutes later, I returned to discuss the situation with the female proprietor. I had been shopping at the general store for 4 years- and honestly didn't want to stop shopping there. When I walked in, I asked the female proprietor if we could talk about the situation, her response: "I'm standing right here." I started by saying how long I've been shopping at the store and always enjoyed my experience. Today, it felt different and I felt very unwelcome. You know when someone already has their mind made up and nothing you can say changes it? That was this situation. The female proprietor said that she was just checking in and did nothing wrong. When I responded that it felt like she was insinuating I was stealing, her response was "I'm sorry you felt that way." Which everyone know is the screw you of apologies. The conversation continued to go round and round, until I finally said that it seemed like she didn't want to take ownership and that I didn't feel comfortable shopping there anymore. Her response? "That's fine, we have plenty of other customers. We don't need ones like you." Just to clarify - wasn't stealing nor would every. Full disclosure, this is where I (hopefully understandably) got very frustrated and said I was going to tell people of the experience. It was then that another female worker told me to get out, followed by the female proprietor saying the same thing. I left the building, and slammed the door - which I shouldn't have. I honestly have never been treated with such disrespect before. It was overwhelming. When I got to the car (visibly upset) my partner then went in to the store. While I was not there, the gist of the situation was he was greeted with the same disrespect and after more conversation, was told to "leave or we will call the sheriff." For two people who were just trying to patron a local store, this was a terrible situation. I understand that shoplifting is a problem there -they had signs everywhere. Which ironically minutes before this happened, I said to my partner "who would ever steal from a local store like this?" To be treated with such disrespect is so disappointing. After 4 years of shopping here, they have made it very clear - people like me (who was just trying to get a few items, and said she felt uncomfortable by their actions) were told never to return. I wish that the food handling had better glove cleanliness and cross-contamination awareness, and also that there wasnt rotten hamburger patties in the meat case the day i was there. I was impressed by the holding temperature for the meatballs and sauce. They were piping hot....Like PIPING for real. The meatballs tasted good and the sauce is good too. They cut the meatballs in half on the subroll and arranged the halves on the bread by gloved hand. The same gloves had touched deli slicers, scales, deli meat, a switch in the side of the oven and many other surfaces while I stood in line. Ive eaten at sketchy places before (too many according to my husband) but my brain was begging me to reconsider my choice this time. However at that point I figured I had already committed to the 6" meatball sub i had ordered. I shouldnt have. Less than 2 hours later it turned into a disaster.

I also bought frozen pirogies a few weeks ago and got home (a 5 minute drive) and opened them to find them all clumped frozen together in a huge thing of frost - they clearly had not remained frozen at one point. I know it's probably not easy being a small store in a rural area but sadly I will only be stopping in for last minute pantry items if needed - I won't be buying fresh food anymore - food poisoning is seriously not fun.
