I stop there weekly on the way home from the VA. Always looking for something different and they always have it. I always ask what's good and I've never been steered wrong. The food is always fresh and delicious and their prepackaged meals are well worth it and just as good as if they just made them. The place itself has that little Italy feel when you walk in with the hanging cheese and smell of fresh soups. The staff there are always happy to answer questions and make recommendations. My wife and I were in town visiting our daughter and wanted a light lunch before a boat cruise. My daughter recommended Cardona's and I'm glad she did. The market has that old time vibe of being part of the neighborhood. Amazing selection of Italian goods and some seating. Perhaps most importantly, a really nice selection of creative sandwiches, filled with high quality ingredients, that they can also put on a wrap. I loved the Rabe C, broccoli rabe, fried eggplant, provolone and hot pepper spread. Great flavor combo and a pop of heat from the pepper spread. My wife enjoyed a delicious roast beef wrap and my daughter enjoyed a vibrant pasta salad. All that plus a local orchard sparkling apple cider! Pretty ass. Went for the first time. They bumped our order for half an hour when they weren't even busy, gave us a hard time when we asked why we were getting bumped when walk ins after us were getting their orders before ours. Then they managed to screw the order up by forgetting sides and condiments that we were up charged for. read more

The past couple of times that we ordered subs, they got our order wrong.It's like they don't pay attention. Today was the worst.I wanted no oil on my sub.And my husband wanted oil on his and they put oil on both. It was a mess like they threw it together real quick. How do you get it wrong?When you just want mayonnaise , lettuce , onion and tomato. It was soaked with oil and it had hot peppers on it. For the price you pay , you should always get the order right?It's like they don't pay attention. This should be a 3.6, but I can see how this place can easily be a 4+ location. I ordered and had the Big D and the Fuh-Gettabout-It. The Big D sandwich was the star of the show, good cold cuts, bread was good, just a well put together sandwich. My only critique of that sandwich would be it needs more dressing, even if it was just some nice olive oil, don't butcher it with glaze, doesn't need glaze. The Fuh-gettabout-it though, what a different story. The chicken cutlet was sliced (perhaps pounded) WAY too thin, so thin, that it was severely overcooked and dried out, almost making it difficult to eat. the prosciutto, spinach, tomato, and mozz was a nice addition, but it couldn't save how over-done the chicken was. I'm a fan of ciabatta, but the ciabatta fell apart on this sandwich way too quickly. I love a good chicken cutlet sandwich, but this one was unfortunately not one of them, would not suggest this sandwich. I will order again from here, just not the fuh-gettabout-it. read more

I ordered the big D which came which cured meats, provolone, and Italian dressing. The bread it was served on was so fresh. The sandwich was filling and I ordered the smaller size. There is a great cheese counter too with lots of samples. Other offerings include cookies and a small prepared foods counter. Been going down hill for a while, but today was an epic fail. I think I'm done. It's at that point where it feels stressful picking up food there, waiting to see what's wrong. Sandwich for pickup with prosciutto as the protein....1 slice. Who puts one slice of any meat on a sandwich? But for months now they've been super inconsistent on amounts of ingredients and doing a half-assed job building a sandwich...not letting liquid drain from ingredients so it comes out a sloppy mess, putting all of one ingredient in one spot...even just wrapping the sandwiches well seems like a challenge sometimes. How hard is it to make a sandwich well? If your employees can't ballpark it, weight ingredients. It's not rocket science. When I visit family in Albany a stop at Cardona's is always a must. They have great Italian Food & Sandwiches. While waiting for our order I love tasting cheeses from all over the world. I love the smoked Gouda cheese & hard Goats Cheese. At this visit we ordered a build to order Italian sandwich with Turkey & Ham to go. We also got some miniature Cannolis & Italian cookies to take home. Everything was super delicious. If only I was not rush I would have enjoying eating there. Small of the eating area The cannolis did not make it out the door. We ate it all. The Cookie was authentic that made it through a 2 plane rides in one piece not much crumbs in our check in luggage. Can't believe I've lived in this area for 15 years and today was my 1st time here! I had a weekday off and knew I'd be in this area without kids and was looking for somewhere to buy myself lunch. I wanted soup! So here I was. The street parking was not hard to find. The staff were all so chipper and helpful. I picked a soup from the 4 choices offered. I also got 2 of the prepared salads (broccoli salad and antipasto). I couldn't decide what to get from the hot bar and ended up picked chicken piccata with penne from the menu. The best Italian market around is by far @cardonasmarket Our favorite hot sandwich is the Fuh-getabout-It but you definitely won't forget about it. It has the best quality ciabatta bread, chicken cutlet, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, tomato and spinach around. The bread is so thin but perfect. We like to add a balsamic glaze for extra density. A must visit in Albany. This charming little Italian Market is filled with fresh ingredients and prepared Italian foods and meats. I was like a kid in a candy shop. The market is in an older building and is immaculate inside. Masks required during COVID. Shelves of virgin olive oil and cases of artistic baked goods greet you. There is a coffee bar in the middle of the store. There is a case of prepared foods if you don't want to cook. Many locals stopped by to pick up a quick dinner of pasta and other hearty offerings. They also have a selection of fresh Italian breads. And don't let me forget to tell you about the selection of gourmet olives and cheeses. We picked up some local Alps soppressata ($20) (from Aurora, NY.) Also a Greek Salad, Italian sausage and enormous meatballs. The soppressata was out of this world. The salad was very good. The staff is friendly and helpful. The shop is tight and it's hard to distance, but everyone is good about wearing masks. There is street parking available. We parked right in front. Life is all good when you have a good sandwich. Considering this, Cardona's Market has the best subs that I've ever had. When I walked into Cardona's I knew this place would be great. To elaborate, the place is so comfy and the smell of cheeses hits you right away. I could have spent my entire day in this market, that is how much I enjoyed it. Bearing this in mind, I scanned the menu and the Cardona's Club caught my eye. The club is turkey, ham, bacon, mayo, lettuce, and cheddar cheese on a sub roll. As soon as I received the sub I knew I was in for a treat. I bit into the sub and my tastebuds exploded with glee. To put into perspective, the roll was toasted, crunchy, and absolutely fantastic. I could have cuddled up with it and used it as a pillow. In addition, the bacon was crispy and hot. The ham and turkey was incredibly fresh with tremendous flavor. Also, the cheddar cheese was rich and uplifted the sub into greatness. The sub was easily one of the best I've ever had. By and large, Cardona's Market has top tier subs and it is much better than its rival Andy and Sons. Simply put, Cardona's Market is the place to go for a great sub. read more

If you want to find the best Italian food in Albany this is the place to be. The space: this is an absolutely adorable space. It's easy to find and there's tons of street parking. You enter and there are a few places to sit but it's mostly for takeout. A few tables in the front and then a classic center bar style to sit in and eat your delicious food. The food options: You can shop like you're at the grocery store getting your fresh deli meats, pastas, cheeses, olives, breads and various pastries or you can get pre-packaged meals, or your choice of hot foods like chicken parm, meats balls etc or get yourself a classic sub! My food: my friend and I got the eggplant parm with penne, an arancini, broccoli rob, potatoes, ravioli, chicken franchaise and the tortellini and EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. This review is a few months late. I placed a large catering order for a holiday party. I called to confirm some allergens before I placed my order. The online order form was very easy to deal with. About 4-5 days before the party, I had to call the coordinator Jessica to ask if we could postpone our order til January (staff got Covid) and she was very accommodating. I got a follow up confirmation from her as the party got closer and the delivery went off without a hitch despite it being a snowy night. Their delivery driver was even a bit early. We got a few large trays- arancini, pasta, a salad, roasted potatoes and veggies. Everyone raved about the food and many people took leftovers home. This one hurts. I have been going to Cardona's for their subs for years. Always great, high quality ingredients and reasonable in price. I never understood why anyone in the are would go to one of the other sub chains when for a dollar or so more you could get an excellent Cardona's sub. Well that has changed. I went Saturday for an Italian mixed sub. First thing I noticed was an increase in price of between 2 and 3 dollars. That didn't bother me as inflation has hit everything. What bothered me is the sub itself. When I unwrapped it at home there was barely any meat or other things on the sub. It was all roll. I understand increasing your prices because of inflation but when you do that and also shrinkflation the food you are doing a disservice to your customers. It get two stars because the people working at the store were pleasant and professional and the side order of chicken marsala was very good. read more
