This place came recommended by a true foodie! Just a few short blocks from the 4 train is this busy shop. The wrapped line didn't worry me since I could see it moving quickly, and it made me excited to try this for myself. While in line I decided on the curry goat roti-- now here's something to note: I ordered it buss up and thought it meant the fixins' but it actually creates a more deconstructed roti than what one would normally find! I also ordered the eggplant fritter baiganee and that was also delicious! I did accept the pepper sauce and tamarind drizzle on both. I think the next time I come, I'll be on an emptied stomach- I loved it all and ate as much as I could. To wash it down, I tried their homemade orange and grapefruit juice which was refreshing! Luckily we were able to sit in the modified lounge style seating they offer. A long bench with individual tables and chairs that break up the seating for multiple parties. The music! This shop is one of the reasons to live in New York. It is truly flavored and messy and will stain your clothes and your fingertips. I came on a good day and the line wasn't too long, and they had everything on the menu. I got the double and the shrimp roti. Both were delicious and flavorful and the shrimp roti had the perfect amount of spice! I was able to make 2 meals out of the roti and it reheated very well. read more

I passed by this spot multiple times and finally decided to give it a try. I got the doubles and added the pepper sauce. For only curry chickpeas and roti this was really good. For $2 each it's pretty filling. The service was not bad and the restaurant is pretty spacious. I would've never thought that chickpeas would taste so good like this. The soy chunks provided a deft impersonation of meat, with spinach offering a more traditional vegetable performance. My mouth is watering just thinking about the chicken roti that I got from Ali's. When I walked up to the shop someone was blasting Caribbean and R&B mixes and was singing at the top of their lungs. Not gonna lie the mix was fire and I'm kind of sad I didn't ask for a copy. When I walked into Ali's it smelled sooo good... and they thankfully still had a lot of options left. I got their chicken roti with potatoes. They definitely don't skimp on the portion sizes so I was able to eat this as two meals. I also got a banana cola and mmhm mhhm, I could eat here everyday. I had a music video shoot call time of 6:00. Got there, but decided to wait until 7:45 since it is a night shoot. I asked for a good place to get some food. I was directed to Ali's First thing I do is look at the cleanliness of a business. As soon as I walk into a place, I check out how clean it is and I always look at where the food is at. The food was well presented and it wasn't sloppy and food all over the place. Everything look neat and clean. I also make a quick rundown of the workers. I look at their outfits. Are They wearing gloves and so on. The food was well presented and the staff answered questions. She even when it's far to ask if that what I chose looked good. It did. . The person in front of me ordered rice and chicken with macaroni pie on the side. When he got to the counter, the man didn't realize the macaroni pie was part of his order. He told him don't worry about it just put it in the bag. I thought that was super cool. I paid for my order and asked if he had any non-carbonated drinks because everything in the cooler look like soda. He gave me a drink for free from behind the counter. There's a fountain there. Again super cool. Especially as a first time patron, this is a wonderful memory I ordered pasta with curry chicken on top. It was good. Not very spicy and not very salty. A lot of times these places drown their food with salt. It tasted good and I left none. I got roti skin with it, because how can you eat this without roti skin of course. The roti skin was warm and soft all the way through. Every bite was a delight. I almost definitely hit this place up again when I'm in a neighborhood. It is now on my list! read more

Let me start by saying the line is long. Once you try some doubles or the Roti, you'll understand why. I elected for the Beef Roti and doubles, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They do NOT skimp on the meat or Channa. The place is spacious and has great music in the background, so it makes you want to stick around. The only thing I would want to add to my food is more pepper sauce or Mango Amchar. I'll be back to try more items on the menu. read more

I was in Brooklyn and decided to pick up some Trinidadian food to go. It was about 2pm. I went inside and there was quite a long line but I decided to wait and after about 15 minutes, I finally reached the front of the line and the server took my order of 8 doubles, a goat roti and 2 orders of pholourie. It took a couple minutes for her to gather my order because there were other servers preparing dishes for other customers at the same time. At the register, I requested some tamarind sauce on the side for my doubles and was told that there wasn't any to give on the side which was disappointing. I paid for my food and left. The doubles are definitely a great price and they were good. The roti was ok. I would visit again for the doubles with tamarind sauce. I recommend working on their customer service. read more

The meat was tender and moist. The roti wasn't wrapped great. There was an area with a lot of dough/skin. And an area where the meat kept flooding out but outside of that! Honey! Finger licking good. I am officially done with Ali's Roti Shop. Upon entering the person at the register was running he cash register and serving food. Wtf! When I took off my head phones I finally hear a group of employees enjoying a conversation and laughing out loud with customers in the store. One actually looked out and continued the conversation. Of course my accent hits "what foolishness is this? Allyah does put customers last until business shut down Stupppssss." Of course no apology but the situation escalated when I asked for what I desired, a doubles with extra tamarind sauce. Her response, "Ms we don't have doubles today" my response, "as of today I will no longer support allyah business and I promise to share my experience" I walked out pissed and praying they fire all the staff or sell their business to another person more capable of offering professional services. Ali's has been a mainstay in Crown Heights for as long as I could remember but I've gained a new appreciation for their food. Growing up, I used to only get doubles--which they would always sell out. Since moving back to the area, I have been ordering chicken roti. The roti skin is delicious--never dry or crumbly. I never can eat the whole thing in one sitting so I'll eat the other half the next day and still taste fine. A friend of mine told me that the bussup shut is better at the Ali's on Fulton. I've never tried the bussup at this location but I will say that the roti at this location is better than the Fulton location. The service is good and they are adhering to COVID restrictions. If you're in the mood for roti, you can't go wrong here--except, they need to start taking cards. They have a sign that says their card machine is down...I think that sign is a couple of years old. read more

Let me tell you about today. I was feeling a little down because it's getting colder but I had no idea that my heart would be warmed with a shrimp doubles from Ali roti shop. I thought I had double before. I really thought I did but this shrimp double with a little cucumber and tamarind was a blatant reminder that there are other doubles in this world and there is one that reigns supreme. All hail to Ali roti shop doubles. It need to be exhausted on a food pulpit somewhere with its own two hour sermon. It was worth it. Have you ever bought food and got immediacy upset that you didn't buy more. I am still going through the same feelings now. Due to covid-19 there is no dining in and only five people are allowed in the restaurant at once. It was worth the wait. I also order the lunch special which came with fried rice, red beans, salad, potato salad, Bbq salmon and Mac and cheese and callaloo. At $18 it's enough to feed three people. I placed an order for 2 buss up curry goat today with two drinks(orange and grapefruit), the order came WRONG using grubhub app. I received two regular curry goat roti and NO drinks. If there was no buss up I should have received a call to let me know this and ask me if I wanted regular roti. I contacted grub hub and then grub hub is now telling me that they can't do anything for me and they escalated it to a team which will take 7-10 days. After spending $67+ dollars on the meals and receiving wrong item and no drinks I should have to wait so long for a resolution. Wow wow wowwwww. Where do I begin. This is the first time I've been back to Ali's since 2010, and I must say NOT A THING HAS CHANGED. Great customer service as I remembered upon stepping in. It also seems as if they did renovations to the place it all looks great. I ordered 2 roti's today. One with chicken and one goat with tamarind sauce on both . I could not wait to get home with my husband to EAT. First things first the roti sizes are HUGE. Of course I had to take the first bite out of hubby's chicken roti lol. The roti was soft, the meat was tender potato was yum and the tamarind sauce gave the umf flavor . Now my goat rotiiiii spectacular. Tender meat, good sized potatoes and that tamarind sauce (don't sleep on it) gave it the sweet tangy pop. For both roti's the total was $26, outstanding pricing for all that you get with this roti meal . 1 roti can definitely be spilt for 2, but I definitely would not share mine lol . Let me start by saying the women who served me was very rude. I wait in line for 20 minutes and asked for pepper in my Chana a second after she closed it and she scolded me for 5 minutes. Customer service needs work. The Chana was also under seasoned and the roti s little greasy. it's okay food but packed because it's the only place really around. Will not be returning. read more

Took a taxi here from my hotel. Visiting New York we were expecting some good Caribbean food because it's so heavily populated with Caribbean people. We asked around and a couple people mentioned this place and a couple people said no they are not the same like they used to be anymore. But because it was the closest in proximity, we decided to give it a try. Lol why TF did we do that?.. Too much attitude behind the counter first of all. They didn't have dining in because of Covid so we actually walked to a nearby park and ate there. Or tried. The food was NOT good. The salad was even soggy. We threw the food away. I hardly do reviews and it's been awhile since I've posted about any business, but for me the experience has to be either very bad or very good for me to post and take the time to really post "no in between." I was pretty hesitant at 1st going here, I must say this place has the worse Roti and/or bussup in the Crown Heights/Prospect/Lefferts Gardens section of Brooklyn. I normally stick to cuisine I know, no time for wasting or spending money in exploration with hopes the food may taste good. I must say this time I took that chance. I have definitely regretted taking the chance with great disappointment in my countries Roti. This shop should be closed/shut-down down as people seem to, or may get it confused with Alis Roti shop which is undergoing renovation on Fulton street near nostrand Ave in bedstuy. I took one bite of their Roti and it seriously tasted like egg. I eat Roti with Chana all the time but this Roti with Chana was the worse experience tasting Roti I've ever experienced in my life no exaggeration. This is one Roti that may give you the bathroom trip if you're looking to get cleansed, eat it. I threw it out immediately after my 1st bite. If I could give no stars I'd give no stars. I don't understand what they serve that may taste good or what peoples taste buds are tasting but I know my wife wanted to throw the bussup at me she's Guyanese and she said babe what in the hell is this? I could only shake my head and apologize for messing up her appetite as a Trinidadian, they are a disgrace and a perfect example of where to not take someone who hasn't ever tried roti and doesn't know or have an idea of what roti or bussup/bussup- shot tastes like. This is Not a place to take a friend or loved one if you're truly close with them or cool with them. I SAY IT AGAIN THIS ISN'T A PLACE TO TAKE ANYONE THAT WANTS ROTI OR BUSSUP that's never experienced good tasting roti or bussup. It's as if you're eating raw egg yolks with no flavor whether this makes sense to you or not, try to make it make sense. If you can put 2 and 2 together and good with reading between the lines I don't want to curse on here but Think about a watery #2 in a wrap or in a dish to go, that's exactly what you'll feel if you get this.
