I love Lake Hopatcong and have been dying to try Alice's. The restaurant is perched over the lake and offers amazing views. We chose to sit inside, so the view of the lake was blocked by our booth, but you can sit on the porch for 360 degree views of the water. I would definitely recommend this, as the views are the highlight of the experience. The service is also very polite and accommodating, as they indulged my request to add chicken to my dish. I ordered the Chimichurri Mushroom, and as mentioned, added chicken. The dish needed a protein, and would've been very light otherwise. Everything was cooked well, but my dish was swimming in oil. I was really turned off by this. I also found everything, including the Chimichurri, to be quite bland. Overall I had high hopes for this place, especially due to the location, but the food itself wasn't really worth returning for. read more

It was a beautiful fall day and the view of Lake Hopatcong was quite good. 5 stars. I rate the service we received as outstanding. 5 stars again. The food was another matter. Serving sizes for all 6 of us were plentiful and I was pleased that fresh green beans could be substituted for fries. I ate my burger and had tastes of others entrees then concluded that the food was nothing special. I rate the quality and preparation of the food as 3 (tops). So, enjoy the view and, based on my experience, expect top quality service. But don't expect gourmet food. read more

Okay, this review taught me not to judge a book by its cover! I came to Lake Hopatcong on a whim for dinner on a warm night looking to sit outside and without a reservation. No reservation was my first mistake. The restaurants in the area all have a beautiful view / sunset but are often booked. I intended to visit another spot on the water but couldn't get in, and ended up at Alice's instead. We climbed a big staircase to get into the main entrance and it seemed pretty small outside compared to what it looks like outside. Think they have a separate bar / dining room down in the lower area. But I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by my experience here. At first, the hostess told us that there was nothing available but then the other woman up front with her told us to wait a minute. Luckily, she came back and said she could get us a table. Finally, a win! For dinner, we ordered the Arugula Salad special which is we excellent. It has mandarin oranges and walnuts in it which I enjoyed together. I got the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna for dinner which was good. Though, I didn't love the noodles it came with it was still pretty tasty overall. We finished up sharing the Limoncello cake and dessert martinis. I'd normally go for an espresso martini, but tried the chocolate peanut martini which was like dessert in a glass! Our server was very attentive - service was fast, food was good and prices weren't bad. Plus, you cannot beat the sunset view if you get an outside table! Came here as a late Mother's Day treat for my MIL and I was super impressed with the menu. Food: we started with a nice appetizer of hummus (not pictured) which was refreshing and came with artichokes. I ordered a spicy fried chicken sandwich that was moist and perfectly spiced while my wife and MIL got fried fish tacos and sole meunière respectfully which they loved. We got a creamsicle cheesecake bar that we all split for which was not only delicious, but also gluten AND sugar free. Service: really great service provided by Joshua, super nice and accommodating. Aesthetic: we ended up going on a rainy day but I can imagine with a little sun and great weather it would be the perfect spot to look over Lake Hopatcong at. read more

We were there today, beginning service was ok, but after the order of 6 people was taken service didn't care again about our table. When orders came out 5 were fine, the last was not done as ordered. Sent back and told a couple of minutes, never happened, 30 minutes later we asked and the reply was I'll check. Never returned, the rest of us were done and when service showed up again we said forget about the food. Check came nothing said ,no apologies, no nothing, but did credit us for his diet coke. Restaurant was half empty , and while we waited we watched 3 servers and the hostess leaning on the podium scrolling through their phones. We stopped in for a couple of apps and a cocktail. We went to the bar downstairs since the upstairs had a private event. The downstairs reminded me of an old basement used as a game room. We were sat in their outdoor area. I found it a bit odd there was no table service once we were seated by staff; we had to retrieve our menus from the bar staff inside , as well as to give them our drink and food orders. Once our drinks were made, we had to get them inside as well; I wanted to grab the drinks for everyone, but we were a party of 5 and there was also a door to the deck that was not easy to open, so I grabbed some extra hands from my party. Once food was prepared, we had a pager that alerted us; we then had to go back to the bar inside to get our food, silverware, and napkins, etc.. Pretty much a self serve scenario which again, was not expected. We had martinis and beer, decent. We also shared Garlic parmesan fries and Totchos. The fries looked delicious, but were very bland, and the tachos were drenched and soggy. I had to give a credit card to hold the tab which made sense. The bartender said it was just to hold the tab and they would not charge anything if we wanted to split the tab, but when we went back in to pay and split the tab, they already charged my card the full amount for all five of us, so again, not very good communication. Went to Alice's Fish Lounge (the bar lounge of the restaurant) for an evening drink. It's a nice laid back spot with an outdoor area that has a nice sunset view, and they've got cornhole if you're hanging out with friends. Just a heads-up: the kitchen closes at 8, so if you're hoping for a snack with your drink, definitely go earlier. Our group didn't realize and ended up leaving earlier to go somewhere else. Still a good spot to visit and unwind for a casual night out. read more

We had a really fun time at Alice's last night! There's a bar downstairs called The Big Fish Lounge where we started off. Cozy bar and Friday night karaoke was a great way to relax with friends and enjoy some laughs. After we went upstairs to the restaurant for dinner. It was a casual menu and the food was good. I went with the bacon cheeseburger sliders which were tasty. All of us enjoyed our meals. On a Friday night in March, the place was pretty quiet. Friends have told us that it gets pretty packed here in the warmer weather. The setting is beautiful, right on the lake. Fun place! read more

I have never posted about something like this, but I felt compelled to because we all are lake establishment consumers. I went to Alice's for brunch today, my husband and I ordered 3 bloody Mary's, 2 of which were doubles. We ordered a menu item with over easy eggs (as stated on the menu). The eggs were well done and fried to death, so we asked for 2 over easy to replace them (not a big deal). When we got the bill, I saw that we were charged $3.00 for the celery in our drinks, and charged $5.00 for the eggs that replaced the overcooked ones. We have lived for years on Nolan's Point and are local patrons of these places. I had to argue with management and explain that charging for a garnish in a drink is unacceptable. Ultimately, they adjusted the bill, but tried to justify it as a result of increasing food costs. Sad, really. I now have the Alice's ick. read more

Unless you enjoy overpaying for a so so meal. Moreover, when you're downstairs you serve yourself. So you're over paying for an "eh" meal, then on top of that, you have to serve yourself. read more

Disappointing - the menu, the food, the service. The only thing going for them is the view. There were 4 of us and we sat there for about 20 min just trying to find a menu item that sounded good. It was definitely lacking and just didnt make a whole lot of sense. It's like they dont know who they want to be. I finally picked the lentil burger as a healthier option. The others got burgers. My "lentil burger" was like baby food squeezing from the bottom of my bun. Messy to say the least. The beef burgers were thin and had more lettuce and onion than meat. My husband said he could have definitely made a better burger at home. The staff was slow and we weren't able to sit on the veranda because of reservations; however those tables stayed open the whole time we were there. I think for the prices they charge and the location, they really need to elevate their menu and quality. read more

My first time here and I will be back!!! Our server Madine was the absolute best. She made our experience perfect. The ambiance is gorgeous. Asked to be seated outdoors, but clearly logic with a sense of time is not a strong suit to this restaurant. High atop a mountain in Lake Hopatcong, Nj, sits this restaurant regally overlooking the lake. The views from here are beautiful, especially if you are lucky enough to sit outside in the patio, like we did. Great for people watching, boat watching or just plain old scenery watching. I imagine it would be even more gorgeous to see the sunset from here. Serene and relaxing, the patio itself is very nice too. Although it is open air, the patio is completely shaded from above so the sun never bothered us. There is a downstairs lounge with games like cornhole and Jenga, but we didn't get a chance to check it out. The food was good. I had the house burger with cheese and it was deliciously charred on the outside, while nice and juicy on the inside. The crispy chicken sandwich and the wings were also good choices. The only thing we didn't like was the kid's pasta with marinara sauce. The pasta looked overcooked and the sauce wasn't the best. Service was good. Our server checked on us several times and was quick to respond. Great food, good atmosphere, beautiful scenery. What more can you ask for? read more
