Food: We started with garlic bread that was absolutely awesome, followed by grilled octopus with a perfectly balanced, succulent marinade. I had shrimp with pasta, while my mother-in-law enjoyed a fillet of sole stuffed with crab meat and my wife had the cavatelli with broccoli. Everything was flavorful, well-prepared, and satisfying. We were hoping to sit at the bar but it was pretty full for midday on a Sunday. We sat at a booth in the back and our server was so sweet. She came over right away with a bread basket - I was shocked. Most restaurants these days don't offer bread so I was very pleasantly surprised! Must try: the short rib grilled cheese. The food here was excellent. The smothered chicken earned its hype. The fig martini was a perfect blend of sweet and sour. The baklava was harder than I expected and not the best. Food is definitely higher quality and more flavorful than standard tavern food. Would definitely return to try more items from the menu, but I'd probably sit at the bar. A gentleman introduced himself as my waiter, took my drink order, then I never saw him again. A series of waitresses would drop my items off/take my order. It felt like I was an after thought, especially compared to other tables. I wanted to order more but they dropped my check off while running by, so I didn't get the chance to speak to them. Stopped in for a mini family dinner at this mediterranean restaurant. The bar looked so nice and inviting. Maybe next time we'll get there early for a drink. Our server was awesome! Our drinks came out fast. She was so helpful with the menu and gave accurate descriptions of the dishes. Needless to say we ordered based on that and were not disappointed! If you love seafood I highly recommend the Seafood Risotto. The picture does not do it justice. It was creamy delicious and fresh! If you're looking for a good spot to stop near the hotels around Stanhope, this is the place. The inside is setup exactly how a tavern should be, with dining around the outside areas of the bar. My waitress was very nice and had some good recommendations. Additionally, the drinks were delicious and I ended up getting the French onion soup to start which was rich in flavor. This little gem of a place has some really good food and they give you plenty. I met one of the most Awesome waitress I've ever encountered her level of attention and friendliness was beyond the realm of any Waitress ive encountered she was the best of the best this young lady was great no hesitation of going above and beyond. There was 9 of us. I must say we all had this young lady going back and forth and not even one complain she was really a hard worker and friendly and smiling. Like you really don't see this type worker that much. Her name was Dalton. The ambiance here was fantastic. I love the dark wood cabin feel with vaulted ceilings. I thought that this was just a basic tavern restaurant. I really had no expectations because we were hungry and just pulled in because it looked like a happening place. There were a mix of booth seating, tables plus bar seating. It is a large space and it was a busy night. There were so many people having dinner some who came in for dinner on their own, couples, families plus there was a small party. We were seated right away and we had a very attentive waitress. We were immediately given warm focaccia bread (yummy) which was perfect because we were all hungry. They did offer the basics like fresh ground burgers, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, I was pleasantly surprised that there were some Mediterranean options like grilled octopus, spanakopita, plus more. We started with their zucchini chips (ranch dip my choice, delicious), fried calamari (fresh and very large slices) and we debated over their grilled octopus which we did not order. What a big mistake (definitely a reason to come back). When I looked around there were people who did order the octopus and it looked delicious. For dinner we had the short rib grilled cheese, BBQ baby back ribs (literally tender fall off the bone), Stifado (pasta with chunks of short rib), and smothered chicken. Most of the time when I have a huge appetite going into a restaurant, I end up grading on a curve. Not this time, unfortunately. I came here with one of my top-tier chums and Honorary Young Pup on Saturday around 3PM. I'd just wrapped up a very long walk/hike and was famished, and this happened to be the closest sit-down establishment to where I finished. There aren't a ton of options on this stretch of 206, especially since Salt closed, so Stonewood has close to a monopoly - it's mostly strip mall pizza around here. I loved the interior of this place, especially in the bar area by the entrance. It's a lot of high, wooden rafters with an upscale barn vibe and very spacious. By far it's their biggest selling point based on what I experienced. If I ever came back, it would be to hang out at the bar, soaking up that atmosphere. Super comfortable in that regard. Both my top tier chum and I decided to get a drink; I went with the white sangria, and she got a Mediterranean mule. My drink was perfectly decent. I had a white sangria a week or two ago that was pretty good, and this one was better. Her mule was honestly one of the worst I've had - super heavy on the ginger beer and barely drinkable. It's rare for either of us to send anything back, but it crossed my mind (and in hindsight, I think we should have, if only for the constructive feedback that could have benefited future patrons). I felt the Stifado was in order based on the description, which cited short ribs and pappardelle (one of my favorite dishes). When it got to the table though, it turned out to have marsala sauce on it, which I'm not a fan of and frankly ruined the dish for me. They absolutely should be providing more details in the menu item description for this entree; if I'd know it was coming out with that type of sauce, and not a tomato-based accompaniment, I flat out would not have gotten it. Huge miss in my book. To add insult to injury, the short ribs were not very tender and some of the pieces were a bit gamey. I didn't come close to finishing it, and threw away the leftovers when I got home. The service was VERY mediocre. I've been trying to figure out a way to describe our waiter, and the best I can do is that he was a blink and miss him server - he'd stop by to "check" on us, and before we'd barely finished a sentence, he'd already be gone to check on another customer or back to the kitchen. He was not invested in our experience at all, which was very disappointing. Literally three different times we intended to get more bread (I'm not claiming the bread is insanely good, but it definitely hit the spot for me when we were there), and each time as we remembered to ask, he was gone. Someone needs to remind the servers that they're not just checking a box when they go to a table - they need to have an actual exchange with the patrons. It also wasn't busy at all, so that's not even a potential excuse in this situation. If we'd been seriously thinking about desserts or more drinks, he would have likely missed out on the extra money there because he simply wasn't at our table long enough to receive additional instructions. I was very hungry, but if I'm in this same situation again? I'm sucking it up and having my top tier chum drive further away to a place with better hospitality training and food. read more

Just so ya know you never melt mozzarella on top of muscles marinara unless you're trying to hide something! The muscles were oversized, old and chewy sauce was bland and watery then topped off with tons of mozzarella?! Ya never dump melted cheese on seafood people! Not good, Couldn't finish. Entree: Penne à la Vodka: bland, boring, average at best ate it to be kind. Wine: Fantastic. Service: was rushed not personal. Sit, Eat and rushed ya to get out. Two couples went for dinner on a Friday evening at 7pm. We had a reservation and were quickly seated in a booth (which we requested). We ordered drinks which arrived as expected (2 beers, seltzer and martini). No appetizers were ordered since they gave us some butter garlic bread. I ordered the "Pork Chop" and it was very good (not dry). The ladies ordered the "Smothered Chicken" and it was also very good. My friend ordered the "Just Chicken Parm" which he really liked. My wife ordered her dish with penne pasta instead of whipped potatoes and she was glad she did since they don't ask if you want another option. Otherwise the waitress was great. It was a little loud because there was a large table and the kids were screaming but after they left all good! All sides were very good as well. Portions are large and so the prices are reasonable. For quite some time I've been meaning to go to Stonewood Tavern, it's only a few minutes away from my home and I've seen good reviews and it just sounded really good. I took the initiative & offered a date night with my husband; we ended up going to the Stonewood tavern. We were immediately sat, we were asked if we had reservations, and we didn't but no issue because there was no wait. This was a Thursday at dinner time, so you can picture it . I don't know why I thought there was a patio with a waterfront seating but there wasn't. They did have a patio but it wasn't opened, nor offered. We were sat in a booth by the window & greeted promptly by our waitress, very nice waitress we had! She brought us some water to start & complimentary bread. I asked her a question about the menu and she did not even hesitate to help me out, (brownie points!!) I appreciated that a lot. She even welcomed us since it was our first time dining there. For appetizers we ordered the Spanikopita. I love spinach, I love Greek food so there's a high standard when it comes to Spanikopita. To drink I ended up drinking a seltzer with lemon & lime and my husband went along with a beer flight you can choose 4 beers on draft for $10. For our dinner selections I picked the Stifado & my husband picked the skirt steak dinner. Now mind you the prices at the Stonewood tavern are a bit pricey. I was looking at their dessert menu. It was the generic dessert list: cheesecake chocolate cake, carrot cake, apple crisp, nothing spectacular. We received our appetizer the Spanikopita... when we looked at it it was 5 pieces of very small Spanikopita. They looked like little bite, basically for $11 I thought that was a little pricey for just spinach, feta and filo. At this point now we were looking at each other thinking what's dinner gonna look like. Finally our dinners came out and let me tell you they are pricey because they are BIG. My Stifado was this great big bowl of pappardelle pasta with braised short ribs with a brown gravy, my husband's skirt steak entree was a skirt steak with brown gravy, grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes.....the plate was big. The food was steaming hot and it looked amazing.... plated very nicely. And the steam coming off of it was WOW Now one thing my husband never does is add salt to his food and this time for his mashed potatoes he needed to add salt he sprinkled a little bit over the steak BUT the mashed potatoes were in need of it. My entree was tasty I did add a little salt but that was just my preference but my dinner was good as it was. My husband ended up finishing up his whole dinner .....I couldn't I couldn't finish it was too much so I took it home. Which by the way reheated nicely the pasta didn't absorb the gravy it was still as good. My husband looked at the dessert menu he saw that it was the generic desserts he decided to pass on it. The restaurant is very clean & Very beautiful inside..... I love the lighting and made it a cozy ambiance to have dinner in. I recommend you go and have dinner at the Stonewood Tavern! We were part of large party celebrating at the restaurant with 30 of our family. The staff were very accommodating. The Bloody Mary was fantastic. I loved that they do the garnish with olives and pickles. It makes an awesome treat to have more than the standard celery stalk and lemon wedges nice touch. You must try the donut holes as a table share experience if you're there for breakfast. Our group got several of these and devoured them all. The ricotta pancakes were fabulous. (Light and fluffy and full of lemony goodness) we also ordered the breakfast quesadilla another huge hit. My spouse ordered the chicken and waffles and I was not aloud to touch the plate, it was that good. Service was a bit slower but we were a huge group. We went while visiting my sister and bro-in-law in Newton. It was a pleasant surprise. My relatives were were very familiar with the owner who is apparently a veteran of the Greek diner business. It definitely has the Greek diner vibe but in a more restaurant/tavern setting. It was very comfortable sitting inside and a very homey atmosphere. The booths are especially comfy. The portions were more than plentiful and we left with the uneaten portions. A good diverse appetizer list is available and the dinner menu has that diner feel with several cuisine options. You can get sandwiches, wraps and full dinners. Food order to service time was good. The service was excellent and we were checked on just the right amount of times as the server was attentive but not obtrusive. We took my Grandpa here last weekend and it was delightful. The food and drinks were okay- a little pricey more upscale than most restaurants in town, but it lacks unique food and cuisine. The cheeseburger was nothing new and the drink menu was again mid. We did make a reservation, but the Hostess let 10 more couples ahead of us in before seating us. The ambiance was fine but again it felt like it was lacking something. I will give a star for the beautiful mirror by the bar- that was a lovely touch. If you want to spend a lot of money for a very basic meal but still feel like you're on a fancy date- this is your spot. The place looks very cool, kind of like an old barn architecture. The server was also friendly. The problem is I found the food very underwhelming. We each had a bowl of clam chowder and split appetizers of spanakopita and spinach and artichoke dip. The soup was very bland and the spanakopita pieces were nothing special. The dip was the best food we had there. Another thing I disliked was that even though we ordered everything together, the soup was served before our drinks. What place does that? My husband wanted to try a local restaurant and unfortunately chose the Stonewood Tavern. I am giving it 2 stars only because the waitress was very nice and the service was speedy which helped because I needed to get out of there as quickly as possible. We tried the grilled octopus which was recommended by the waitress. She said people come there just for that. It was OK. The table bread was delicious so I was hopeful. My meal was suppose to be short ribs over pappardelle. Not sure if I'd consider the meat short ribs. More like pot roast chunks. The beef gravy I'm certain was jarred Hentz beef gravy. And although my husband liked his steak it was extremely fatty and smothered in a sauce that I also believe was bottled. As to the ambiance, I guess I would consider it a casual atmosphere as no one blinked an eye at the young mother strolling in wearing only a bikini top and mini skirt as she pushed a baby stroller. Went there for my son's 23 birthday. There were 13 of us. I ordered the Greek gyro platter which I was so amazed by the portion alone n the tziki sauce was homemade and amazing!!! However, I rate it 3 stars because of the food. My table had the calamari appetizer and I ordered a French onion soup with the smothered chicken. The calamari appetizer had a very tasty sauce different from the marinara. The french onion soup also had a good amount of cheese which was great but the soup itself was just ok. My only gripe is the smothered chicken came with a huge side of mashed potatoes that were extremely bland. Probably one of the worst mashed potatoes I have tried in a while. The chicken itself though was juicy and the sauce that came with the chicken was tasty. Again what ruined it for me was the mashed potatoes unfortunately and the rest of the food was not great enough to compensate for the huge side of bland potatoes I received. read more

The reviews were good n we made a good choice. We ordered the kale salad, fried calamari, roasted beets, grilled octopus,, keftedes, gyro platter sand skirt skirt. They were all delicious and portions were good. And to top it all had the yummy chocolate cake, cheese cake and apple crisp. Oh my deserts were out of this world.
