The meal came with a baked potato, steamed vegetables, and two dozen steamed clams, all washed down with a cold bottle of Briar's root beer. Pub 199 feels like walking into a natural history museum inside a hunting lodge, surrounded by taxidermy and rustic decor. The service is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the prices remain very reasonable. Even though I've lived in the area most of my life, I had not gone to Pub199. It was late and super busy with large parties but there was only a 15 minute wait for a table. There were many places to sit at the bar and live music. If you aren't a fan of taxidermy, then don't go here, but if you are ok with it, all the animals (and there were many) were adorned with festive lights and hats. People were very jovial and families were celebrating together. It used to be cash only, but they accept credit cards for a small fee. The price of food is incredible! Missed getting reservation today at a place we never been to so we resorted back to what we loved. I figure since everyone was recommending steakhouses with outrageous prices when we knew Pub 199 had the best steaks and they don't need to break the bank. Tonight I ordered the 2 doz calms (always a must) and the steak and lobster tail. It was AMAZING as always. My normal order is the whole lobster but now that they offer 2 tails I always will get that. I'm excited to try the lobster bisque which I didn't try tonight. My only complaint tonight is the waitress came over with a dish of fries for my husband who ordered the baked potato (omg so good also order the baked potato) and apologized for selling out of the potatoes. 5 Minutes later we see the table next to us get their baked potato's with their dishes. My husband was so mad. Don't lie to people when we love your food. Fries could be better. (We left them). And their vegetables are always soggy and not worth eating. My wife was craving something different, so we took a nice drive to Pub 199 in Mt. Arlington for a late evening Father's Day dinner. It was our first time under the new ownership, and the food did not disappoint. My t-bone was cooked to medium well perfection, clams steamed just as good as we remember, and my wife loved her lobster tails. I'm glad we went later in the day, you could tell it was a very stressful day for staff and it was not as loud as it usually is for early dinner. Hands down, the best part of our meal was our server, Alix. She was constantly checking if we needed anything, and our drinks were never empty. Time for an update since it's been a while and menu has completely changed! For the better IMO! No longer offering a whole lobster with the clams. However; no issue though with the new version of twin lobster tails with choice of clams, shrimp cocktail or something else - I can't remember I already had my mind set on the clams as always. Added on variations of snow crabs with choices as well as steak. Apps completely expanded to add fried calamari which surprisingly was really darn good! Still have wonderful baked potatoes! You can still order a whole lobster or King Crab, but it wasn't a combo choice as it used to be. The portions were still gigantic! The clams still the cleanest we have ever eaten in our lives and remain to be. The lobster tails were actually better as many don't clean a full lobster when eating. One often tends to leave the body and legs. I was taught since a child how to break down a full lobster so it never stopped me lol. Service as actually better than it ever was as more attention to your table than before and waitress refills without asking. Kept checking if we needed anything. Truly still a fave pastime of ours and love the new menu. I sure do miss the old pricing though back when it was $22 for a lobster and clams lol You are now looking at $50. However the steak was like $35 but you literally got like 1/2lb shrimp cocktail. We were shocked! Not your typical 5 shrimp. More like 12-15 for $8 more. OK, so this is a tough one. The layout of this place is awesome. There are two huge dining rooms and a large oval bar. The seating is really nice. Plenty of TVs around the bar. The service is really good. They seem to hire a lot of young local kids, and they are generally very pleasant And they seem happy. I have been here before, so I decided to try something different since they have expanded their menu. The mozzarella sticks were good. The clams were excellent the bacon cheeseburger not so great a bit plain. The wings are really good, but they don't toss the wings in sauce, so the wings aren't covered entirely. They just put the sauce over top of them . The chicken cheesesteak was absolutely terrible terrible. The snow crab legs were very good. All in I know this place is more known for the clams crab seafood, and even the steak so I was trying something different. I've been coming to Pub 199 for a good number of years and I've always enjoyed the food especially the steamed clams & Lobster. Sadly the last few times my experience there left much to be desired. The prices have gone up quite a bit and the food especially the Lobster was dried out and lacked flavor as if it was old and just reheated and served. As for the prices, we were just 2 people without any drinks and the bill came out to $120.00 which I believe was a bit much especially without any drinks. I did not see whole lobster on the menu. Just taking a trip back in time. Was visiting family back east and they insisted we try this place. I will say, this place is unique. The interior is reminiscent of a cafeteria filled with taxidermy. The outside covered seating is more my preference. They can accommodate large parties and ONLY ACCEPT CASH! Service was fast and sufficient. Portions are HUGE and the price is fair for what you get. My qualm with this place is that although it's unique, it's kinda bland and nothing exceptional. If you want Cajun butter or a seafood boil this is not your place. If you want large portions for a good value, come here. So flavor wise, I wasn't impressed and it kind of got mundane. They are very upfront about that though. I would say it's mostly fresh, although definitely a little fishy. So nothing outwardly wrong but just didn't like this place, and that's ok. The place is quite nice with all of the taxidermy animals and the open seating I'm a fan of all that. The outside area is also looks very nice and would be a solid place to sit and eat. The service was pretty good and our server was very attentive and helpful, brining our food and drinks in a very appropriate amount of time. The food was pretty good but not the best, to start the wings were solid but didn't have a lot of buffalo sauce, a lot of meat though. The steamers and mozzarella sticks were also pretty good. We had 8 people 2 kids I would have loved if the kids have there food first they waited over 45 mins the food was over priced for steak and claims was $42 but the steak was chewy mine was filled with grizzle, my daughter has the porterhouse which was $46 he steak was good. We constantly had to flag her down, which is something I don't like having to do, as a server. After a long time of hearing about this pub stopped in yesterday for dinner. This place is huge with a bar in front with plenty of TV's and two huge dining rooms off to the sides. Loves the interior and was decorated pretty cool for the holidays. The menu is pretty straightforward....seafood and steaks mostly. Any appetizers are included with mains. There is a one during minimum. They do offer some burgers and sandwiches. The service was great. Our waitress was always available to refill drinks and was very friendly. The food was decent. I had the lobster tails with onion rings which came with shrimp cocktail. Next time I would try the whole lobster. Everyone else enjoyed their steaks or seafood. If you have a large party this place is ideal....plenty of space. There is a large parking lot as well. Pub isn't fancy and place settings and tables are no frills. tldr: down below I decided to make an updated review since this is my second time coming here After waking up from late night festivities hungover and hungry we decided to come back to Pub 199. Jordan made sure we had everything we needed. She explained the menu, made adjustments as needed and provided an excellent substitute for the baked potato. They say a great restaurant has to have these three key things; Food, Ambiance, Service. With Jordan as our server and the area we were sitting in, 2 of 3 aint so bad. Though still delicious, I won't let an isolated incident tarnish the rest of the foods we've eaten. Fries as a side was excellent. Crispy, crunchy, breaded? Im no expert but I'd get them again. The baked potato, was well a baked potato. But the clams? Oh baby, give me another order please! Clams were steamed to perfection. Paired nicely with the cocktail sauce and butter.
