Now, that was a pleasant surprise for Lulu and me last Saturday. We stayed sitting at one of the tables, watching the games. But there's more here; it's a children's playground, several trails throughout the wooded areas, and the paths are cleared of debris. It's a really clean park, the tables aren't stained. There are plenty of garbage cans throughout. It's plenty of parking; even on Saturday, when the park was packed, we still got a place. I like that the big trees block out more of the sun, giving Lulu more time to enjoy her walks and being nosy. As you can see in the picture, there's a little bookhouse, and I bought some books the other day to drop off. That's the least I can do, my way of apologizing to the ducks and turtles for Lulu barking and wagging her tail at them.

I was hiking alone on a trail once in 2023 and a light green snake rose from the ground and intensely stared at me. This snake was taller than me and I'm 5'6 for reference. The specific trail I was on was connected to the playgrounds. This was a terrifying and honestly traumatic experience; but I wanted to share my experience as a warning because I know lots of people bring their kids and pets there. Please be safe if you choose to go; but no matter how beautiful it is I can't recommend due to safety issues concerning the wilderness. I only walked away from the snake incident unscathed by the grace of God.

In addition to the beautiful view, this park has sand volleyball courts and plenty of open space. Many people bring dogs, strictly on-leash, and when the weather is nice, there will be picnics and photo shoots everywhere. I love to take a book and walk my dog here. It's tucked into Buffalo Bayou, pretty close to the Cistern. Street parking is available, with some extra off of Sabine Street, just a short walk from here. Would definitely recommend stopping by, my spirits are always high at this park!

The only issue I have with this park is the SAFETY at the bathrooms. Why is men & women bathrooms right next to each other? There is no door to restroom entrances. Who designed this?!? Considering there are all ages on the field. Suspicious people wandering in front of women bathroom. There is security but they are too busy on the field watching games. I'm not quite sure if that's part of their job... I would not leave unsupervised children to go to bathroom. The children I was with reported suspicious behaviors with an unstable man roaming nearly going inside the women's restroom.

The pickleball courts are open play style: That is, they have a rack that you put your paddles in to be randomly assigned to the next game. If you want to play with your friends just put your four paddles together. Water and bathroom are located just outside the courts. It's a lovely community offering AND the courts are illuminated for night games. I stayed with some friends from 7-10PM on a Saturday and there were only two other groups there, so we got plenty of game time. Love having a free spot available to play!

If you're looking to get some cardio in, the track is great--it's about 0.8 miles (or just a bit over), and I've walked it plenty of times to shed some calories. Another huge bonus is the free weight room. You're not going to find 600 lbs of plates in there, but there's more than enough to get a solid pump going. The indoor basketball court has a couple of loose boards, but considering it's been there for 40+ years, it's still a classic spot to play. The outdoor courts also hold so many memories. I really wish they'd open the pool back up, but even without it, the park is a gem. Plus, there are so many great lunch spots nearby to hit up after a workout. As some others have said, it is a private Kingwood residence park and you must have a K sticker to park there, you can park out on the road and walk in though. There is a boat ramp and lots of spots to fish, a long wooden pier runs up the inlet, there is a pier next to the boat ramp, too. The forest area has a disc golf course and there are soccer fields across the pedestrian bridge. There are also several spots with playground equipment for the kids, picnic tables, grills as well as some covered pavillions, but you need to reserve these in advance for a picnic or party. The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset, there is an electronic gate, if you get back from a boating excursion late, the gate will open for you when you pull up. There are snakes, some poisonous as well as the occasional alligator. Lots of birds for birders so bring your binoculars or a camera.

We were able to take some nice photos in the park of the Houston cityscape. Saw a few folks jogging, and some folks riding their bike. Make sure to be aware of your surrounding when you are here. Our friends almost got ran over by cyclists. I probably would have liked it better if the water was clean. With the water being so brown, it was not very attractive. Just looked like dirty water. Overall, the park was okay. Would not go out of my way to visit, though.

Sesquicentennial Park connects to a couple of bayou trails. Along the east, the bayou trail which will eventually lead you to Buffalo Bayou Park. On the western end, you'll hit the Buffalo Bayou Greenway and UHD, and can eventually head north to the White Oak Greenway. Amongst the features of the park is the "Big Bubble," a hidden red button which creates bubbles in the Buffalo Bayou. Unfortunately, it has been out of service since 2019. Parking is best found in the parking garages nearby, but will come at a cost.

Don't get butt hurt if you lose a disc on this whole. You may just find another as you continue to play. The course has benches throughout and shade along the way. After the front 10 the shaded spots are fewer. It's a great meeting spot for the group I play with.

White Oak Bayou Trail You might see trash flying or lying around this park and the pool looks like someone might've drowned in it. Never seen anyone use the pool before (weird). Also no portable or working restrooms nearby as one reviewer pointed out. Such a shame. Since the White Oak trail is next to my home, I find myself jogging/running through here a few times. As much as I like the view at times, this park leaves more to be desired. A lower rating would be in store but the disc golfing and dog friendly environment make up for it.
