I have been coming here for at least a year, so time to write a review right? Found this place on ClassPass, and have only used this to book with. It's easy enough via the app. After I book with Classpass, they send me a text and email for confirmation before the appointment. And a thank you email after the appointment. The business itself is cutesy. It looks like an older renovated home, that was converted to a business. There is a relaxation room to enjoy coffe/tea/water post services. The lobby is always nicely decorated, especially seasonally. I dont think I have met the owner yet, but belive it may be female owned. The staff are pretty nice, the ladies that check me in and out at the front desk. I never have to wait in the lobby. As soon as u walk in, I get walked to the back to change. Services- I have only gotten massages here via Patty and she is fabulous. But they do have med spa services as well, which I have not tried. It's nice that they have the small relaxation/communal room. Where you can lounge after. I never feel rushed out which is important. I like that it feels like more like singular small local business rather than a large chain (big box) massage company. read more

OMG do not sleep on having Escarle care for your face! I was in town for business and was pointed to Alira where I got cared for in such a generous and kind way. Escarle evaluated my skin and discussed some options with me that addressed my interests. As a peri-menopausal woman: dryness, fine lines, firming and hyperpigmentation were my top areas. When I say Escarle knocked it out of the park, I was blown away by what she could do in about 90 minutes in efforts to make a difference. She's so informed and educated on the services she provides and you can really feel her passion for what she does in the room when she works with you. I discovered Alira via Living Social. They had a voucher for $99 for a VIP Body Treatment and Massage. As usual, I read the reviews on Yelp before deciding to purchase. Later that day, I had decided to purchase the voucher and LS was having one of those "if you purchase in the next few minutes, then your deal is only ($less than posted price)." So, I purchased the VIP Body Treatment and massage for $89. It was super easy to sign up for a treatment on their website and let them know I had an LS voucher. Once I came in, I had to complete their mandatory form (to release them of liability) and was taken to their small (9 maybe) locker area and was directed to their bathroom to change into my robe. Yes, bathroom. So, they lose one star because I really wish they had a locker room instead of a bathroom (which did have a shower). I felt cramped. I reminded myself of the colloquial idiom, "you get what you pay for" and proceeded to the relaxation area. Now, this was nice. It was quiet. I was given a choice between orange juice, water, wine, coffee or tea. So, I opted for tea. Soon, my therapist/healer, Escarle appeared and guided me to a dimly lit tiny room. I was given a little card that was my inspiration for the session, which read, "My Life is as Good as I Allow it to Be...(capitalization based on card)." This made me both smile and begin my introspection as I prepared myself for the treatment. Escarle has magic hands. This VIP treatment included basically an awesome back scrub and massage as well as some heat added to the treatment. I was all but a puddle of goo before she completed the treatment. Needless to say, I was slow moving as I went back into the relaxation area then the bathroom to get dressed and proceed with my day. I arrived on time for my massage appointment and there was parking out front - 4 parking spots in front. This place is a cute little house that they converted to a spa/salon and is easy to find cause the sign is right out front and easy to spot. I think parking might be a little tough when the 4 spaces fill since W Alabama is such a busy street and it would be hard to get in/out of the parking spaces out front because you have to back out into W Alabama. I went inside and the hostess greeted me at the podium out front near the salon area and told me I needed to fill out a questionnaire, she was friendly.. She took me out back to show me my locker and change into my robe and slippers. The locker was a nice touch but the changing room is the bathroom and you didn't have space to put your clothing. You are then placed in the waiting area where you wait for your masseuse - 3 couches and a fire place. I was not offered water or tea and had to get my own fruit infused water. I wish they also had tea and other items to offer - if they did, they didn't offer me any. My masseuse came to grab me fairly quickly after that. We started slightly after 5pm after the questionnaire and changing. She told me to lay on my stomach and didn't seem to know to go out of the room so I could de-robe, which made it a little awkward. Was I suppose to de-robe in front of her? I waited for her to leave and she gave me a SECOND to situate before she came back in, literally a second because I did not have time to cover myself up with the covers or situate myself on the table before she came back in. After like 10 minutes into the massage, she asked if the pressure was ok, which I appreciated and told her I would like a slightly deeper pressure. The massage felt rushed, she didn't have many techniques and kept repeating the same strokes, the massage was not fluid and at times some of the movements actually felt painful. I did not feel like she kneaded out my knots or got even close to doing so. She focused mostly on my legs and arms, though I specifically said neck, shoulders and lower back in the questionnaire, which makes me believe she didn't read the questionnaire before coming into the room. The massage ended right at 6pm, which was not a full 1 hour.. she left the room and I had to robe up to walk out and tell her that I had scheduled a 80 minute massage, not 60. She told me to get back on the table, did not leave the room while I de-robed again, and did not instruct me how she wanted me to lay. I asked her if I should lay on my stomach, and she said it was up to me what I would like to focus on. Again, I specified neck, shoulder and lower back. She had the same movements she did over and over again for the last 20 minutes, and she actually ended the massage earlier right on time. With the stop in between and ending on time and starting slightly later, I didn't feel like I got a full 80 minutes on the table. She did bring me a cup of water afterwards though. I felt like maybe the masseuse rushed through because the salon/spa closes at 6pm. I scheduled an 80 minute at 5pm and if they didn't want to stay a little later after close, they shouldn't have scheduled me at that time. I got the Travelzoo deal for this and paid $95 for the 80 minute massage. I felt like I could've done a lot better at that price or paid slightly more for something I would enjoy. Worst haircut of my life! I made an appointment online, when I got there they said there was no record, but they had "someone" available. (Nit the someone I read reviews about and selected, just someone) I should have listened to my gut and left then. But I really needed a trim, and I was already there. She didn't speak English, NOT AT ALL! Another reason to leave, but I was already washed and in the chair. Then, what was supposed to be just a trim became the "Rachel" cut on crack. Layers everywhere. There are layers in the back that are shorter than my bangs. I couldn't even say anything. I just paid and ran out. The damage was done. I feel like they asked the cleaning lady to cut my hair. I'll have to wear my hair up for the next 3 months at least. read more

Yasmilet has done several times my hair cut, I have another hairdresser closer to my home , however whenever she was unavailable and whenever I was at Alira I used Yasmilet and she was great. She applied and recommended to the Kerastase treatment conditioner and blow dry my hair with style, in a very delicate manner with out burning my ears!. She has great skills! i highly recommend her for coloring too! my other hairdresser told me the great job Yasmilet has done just to tell you how professional she is! Dayve at the front desk will always welcome you with a smile, she is attentive and professional so thats a great way to start! I had my massage with Alex and also with Yvette both masseuses were really good and professional - I really left the spa with a "feel good" mood - I will try Gaby's massages next time. I also had several facials with Gaby, very professional at all times and she is not trying to sell you products, she may give you recommendations on the products she used if you ask her. Gaby is always warm and attentive yet professional at all times. I also had a Kerastase conditioning treatment and later my hair dryed and straighten, Diego took the time to make it look styled without burning my scalp or my ears, the Kerastase treatment he used made my hair feel smooth and shiny. Jeremiah has done my eyebrows ever since I started going to the spa and he does a great job with my uneven eyebrows, given a good "frame" to my my small eyes! I had a body scrubbing with Yvette and the experience was also great! this scrubbing is followed by a relaxing massage with the application of natural oils , leaving my skin feeling smooth. I have used the products they have available, as recommended by Escarle at my request, the Sothy's line has worked well with my facial skin , a local butter scrubbing featured in O magazine, and other Kerastase hair conditioning treatments. The prices are either equal or less then the other lines I used in the past. I also attended an event held at the Spa promoting a line of make up from a local entrepreneur make up artist Jentrey , she was present at the shop to go over with you her make up line and several techniques on how to apply it to your specific needs. I don't use much make up and I have plenty from my last visit to Sephora but definitely this is a line to try since its made all of minerals ingredients. My sister, my cousin, my mother and my friends have tried their coloring, facials and massage services and we are all very satisfied with the results! Since my first and last visit I see consistency and improvements, a great dedication to what they do - I try to visit and have a ME time at Alira Spa at least once a month! read more

The good: really nicely set up boutique salon; great welcome service, very calming. The terrible, wish I never came in: my aesthetician ruined my face and I walked out in pain, with scratches, abrasions, and literally cuts from the microderm - see pictures. Before this, I've had many microderms, facials, etc and have NEVER had an issue, not even sensitivity. I walked in with unmarked, even skin and I'm horrified at the results. Be careful about facials, it's not worth this risk. You can see the line of scratches from the microderm dragging and all the marks are cuts on my face. Again, before, my skin had ZERO marks. Now, I'm praying it all heals and my face goes back to normal. read more

Calling for an appointment was easy, the receptionist on the other end pleasant to speak with. I had to reschedule due to weather conditions. I left a message on the salon voice mail, unfortunately that wasn't checked or relayed because later that morning I got a call from my stylist asking if I was coming in. When I did make my appointment the next day. The salon itself is cute and has a lovely vibe. Before my appointment I was taken to a very peaceful waiting room and given a hand treatment while I waited. This was an unexpected treat. The rest of appointment went as follows: I met with my hairstylist and apologized for having to reschedule my appointment. He made a rather snarky comment about Houston drivers and in general scoffing at my apology and reasons. I am fine with that. I know often stylist are paid per service and my rescheduling cost him time. Also most people from other areas do not get why Houston drivers are so afraid to drive on ice. He then asked how I would like my hair cut. I explained I was having engagement photos the next day and getting married in 3 months. He said he wanted to cut my hair to above the shoulders or it would not look good. I said I understood but I wanted my hair to be a certain length for my wedding. I only wanted a trim and a color. He seemed to agree. He then put color on my hair with a greenish tint. I made a joke about it being green. He then told me he planned to dye my hair green since I missed my last appointment. Ha ha. I explained to him again what happened. He then asked about my day so far, commenting I wasn't chatty. Um... why would I be at this point? We'd actually had word about a tragedy within our friend group earlier that morning and we were all dealing with that too. I explained. My hair was washed and when back in the chair I answered texts from friends regarding the event I had explained to him. At some point he slammed the dryer on his leg and told me to get off my phone and uncross my legs. My legs were not crossed but I apologized for being on my phone. I know if you don't look straight head it can mess up the cut. When he was finished the color looked good, very good in fact. It was cut to my shoulders. More than four inches shorter than we had talked about. He said it just looked that way because he curled it under (turned out to not be true). I nodded, got the bill, tipped reasonably because of karma and got the heck out of there. Later that day I lifted my hair off my face and noticed the sides of my face had brown dye on them. I'm pretty sure that is not typical? It would not come off with soap and water. By the next morning there was a rash. Just in time for pictures! Luckily my make-up artist was able to make it look fairly normal. Definitely one of the worst salon treatments I've ever had. After it happened I had decided not to post this review because I take partial responsibility for this experience. I have noted that above. A friend recently went and was not happy with her stylist but loved her facialist. She said if she's seen my review she would have only booked a facial. I hope my comedic tragedy helps someone else! read more

I bought a facial as a gift (and my giftee said the facial was fine), but what made me upset was the facialist at Alira knew that the facial was a gift and tacked on an extra service without asking me. I signed up for a $100 facial, but when I saw the check it was for $130 (she had added a microdermabrasion without asking me). Since the giftee was standing right next to me I didn't want to start an argument so I let it go, but it really made me mad because the facialist must have known I couldn't make a scene with the other person there. I won't go back there any more and will tell my friends not to go there. Also, the place was nice, but nothing to write home about. And the prices are higher than nicer places in Houston. read more

I had a really amazing experience at this wonderful spa today. At first, I had a facial with Jeremiah. Not only was he an artful professional, who worked some magic on my severely impacted pores, he was a kind and generous person. His knowledge of skin treatments, and his range of skills and experience were truly impressive. After the facial, I had a full-body scrub massage with Kelly. She was attentive and sweet, and used perfect pressure, focusing on the areas that I requested (neck, shoulders and arms). I left the spa feeling beautiful, uplifted, and rejuvenated. It's been a few hours, and my sensitive skin has already greatly improved from the treatment. This was only my first time, but I can't wait to get the membership, and keep coming back to try all the other services this amazing place has to offer! read more

I was given a massage, facial and hair cut/style for my Christmas/ Birthday gift from my mother, bless her heart. I really appreciated the effort, but it was not the BEST experience ever. My massage was ok. Not the best I have ever had and the "aroma" therapy was not too aromatic, maybe it was the smell I chose (orange blossom). I was tag shocked when I went to the counter to clear the balance, but I guess it's the boutique experience you pay for. Next week I scheduled my facial and hair cut/style. Facial was great. Super soft touch. Loves, and the relaxation room is cute and dim. My hair cut was nice too. I like the technique and after washing it our it looks good and easy to style. A lot better than the tangles I came in with. I am very sad to report that my dismay came when my stylist severely burnt my forehead while curling my hair! OUCH. Literally I screamed (baby whine). It was My Birthday too! So all my birthday weekend I had to walk around with a GIANT burn on my forehead. She's very kind and knowledgeable, and she customized my facial based on my concerns and what I needed. I was sad when the treatments were over because it was soooo relaxing. She let me take my time, brought hot water for my tea in the lounge for me to hang out after. She made recommendations on what I need but wasn't overly pushy at all and I was given samples to try at home at the checkout. You never know how the service will be when offered through Groupon or living social, but I was so impressed at the prestige service and atmosphere. I'm spoiled and kinda and expert, when it comes to massages - I have been going to massage in NY, NJ for 20+years, and lately in Houston. Bi-weekly, or once a month, on average. So i know a good massage if i get one. Did i get some awesome experience!!! Massage by Marlene was out of this world. 90 minutes of bliss. You are all covered in warm sheets, blankets and constantly bombarded with warm oil and good strong massage (i did ask for strong - i am athletic, something always hurts and i need strong kneading, shoulders, etc).
