We have been coming here since they opened. Great vets - Drs Alex, Suzy, Leah are fantastic. Vet techs, office managers are very good, some have left but have been replaced with even better people. They are a primary vet and hospital, but not a full hospital like AMC or Blue Pearl (they are open regular hours only and can only fit so much equipment in that space). BACKGROUND - taking our 10 yr old cat and "pandemic" 4 yr old dog to Alison's since they opened. Convenient location. Easy to get appt. Dr Klein, Dr Ryan, techs (Beach) and the front desk have been kicking ass lately. Full disclosure - Service dipped during the pandemic which is entirely understandable based on circumstances - increased patient load, turnover, stress, etc. But as they brought in new people and got them up to speed it's clearly a stronger, better place then ever. Emails get answered fast. Appts are easy and they have follow up. JUST TODAY - walked in to pick up meds, noted to the team behind the desk that my pup had gnawed at her just discovered hot spot. They jumped into action and 3 techs/nurses came to say hi, check her out and got us set up in one of the rooms in a minute. Shaved, cleaned, staples with care, love and treats. After done, my pup gave them all kisses. Not sure what treats they have but my pup loves going there. Cat is a little more suspect. read more

Dr. Ryan is great , she is knowledgeable, caring and very thorough. After our first appointment she called ( because of Covid)and spent At least 45 minutes on the phone with me going through everything to care for our puppy. Unfortunately the technicians and the rest of our experience with the office Was not so pleasant. Our puppy could not get vaccinated due to a diarrhea issue. We were back and forth switching meds. One time we brought in our little guy to get weighed to make sure his stomach issue was not effecting his growth. One of the techs decided to cut his nail without our permission. She handed him back to us bleeding. When we asked her what happened " don't worry dogs tolerate pain well ". She did not even apologize. After months of going back and forth and setting our puppy back from being vaccinated and being able to go to the dog park to socialize and meet his milestones we finally decided to try another vet. Within one visit they recommended new dog food and his stomach issue was fixed. Months of torture and lots of medical bills later. Not sure if the techs were just playing doctor and never relayed the message to Dr. Ryan or not. Either way stay away from this place. read more

Dr Ryan was sincere and helpful. But the practice's shock and awe approach of having three people in the room just to see an animal (non-emergency) for the first time is overkill. My pet was anxious and frightened and having one of the vet techs talking very loudly without noticing the effect on the animal did not bode well for the future. Clueless. The same female tech talked up a (very loud) storm while the doctor was out of the room, about the costs and details of a medical procedure that the vet later told me quietly was unnecessary. I got a weird vibe from it, and won't be back. Be aware that the practise will also share your email address widely with insurance and pharmaceutical partners. I am still getting spammed. read more

I have 3 older rescue animals, one dog and 2 cats. I am in love with each one of them and they have all had their share of bruising, diarrhea and bad teeth as well as routine check ups over the last 13 odd years. They are not my first animals so floated around looking for excellent vet care prior to finding Alison Animal Hospital. Not sure what expectations are from those who have written poor reviews but all I can say is, not my experience AT ALL. I have seen both vets and have an enormous amount of respect for both, but it is as if Suzy Ryan sprinkles magic dust on my guys. Not only is she an excellent diagnostician and a most caring individual, she will go out of her way to show each one of my animals love and care as well as keeping me, the nervous owner, informed and involved. Plus, the animals seriously love her. Never experienced that before. I never feel as though there are extras thrown on to the bill for no reason and I trust her advice implicitly. I certainly never ever have felt that pricing procedures are anything other than wholly transparent. I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Ryan in particular. read more

I took my new (at the time) rescue from Sean Casey to Alison Animal Hospital, as that's who the rescue recommended. The staff was super nice and helpful including the techs and vets, which is why I'm giving two stars. The reason for my bad experience is that I feel their pricing procedures are predatory and misleading. While I had done lots of research, I told them several times this is my first dog so I'm new to all of this. I asked several times how much the visit would cost (very first visit, he had all the basic shots so we just needed flea + tick, a general exam, etc.) and the tech said "probably about $300." The visit ended up costing $400, and because of covid, I didn't even get to see the invoice before my card was charged. Every visit after this I insisted on being told the pricing of what they were recommending and viewing my invoice before I was charged. When inquiring about prices of things, namely elective vaccines, I was told "I don't know" and I had to actually ask the tech to go back and check. They were in general very dodgy about telling me how much anything cost. The tech also convinced me to get a vaccination for my dog that the rescue specifically told me I do not need because of our lifestyle, as did many other dog owning friends in the area. She told me it would be dangerous and my dog could get sick if I didn't get it, so I agreed. What she failed to mention is that the vaccine cost $500 all together! It was a two-part vaccine. When I tried to schedule the follow up, they told me to come in a month later. I asked if it's possible to get it sooner, as my dog had a health issue and I wanted to check up on that at the same visit, so if they had any availability as soon as we were eligible for the second shot that'd be preferable. They scheduled me much sooner but when I got there, the vet let me know it was "WAY too soon" for the booster, which was literally half the reason I was there at all. So I had to pay an $80 vet fee, then a $50 vet tech fee when we had to go in AGAIN for the booster. I sent a lengthy email to them explaining my experience and that I didn't feel this treatment was at all acceptable. They didn't get back to me for over a week. Their response was to refund me $50 (of easily $800 I had spent there that month) for the vet tech fee and that's it. I am not one to post a bad review about a local business, especially one who supports the rescue that brought our dog into our lives, but I felt so utterly disgusted and taken advantage of after my experience that I felt I had to share my experience. If you're a new dog owner, I would take my business elsewhere. read more

This is really tough to write, because if this review was based on Dr. Ryan alone, it would be 5 stars. That lady goes above and beyond, each and every single time. Now onto the bad and the reason we decided to go elsewhere. The communication with the front office and Dr. Alex has been very poor. It takes a very long time for them to get back to you, and they took their phones off the hook during our time with them in 2020. In addition, emails lack vital information, and answers to specific questions. The front office/Dr. Alex was very slow to respond, and did not provide us with more information when we had areas of concern. We've since changed to a different vet, where they have multiple people staffed in the front office, who respond very quickly, and an actual number you can call. In addition, they also write very detailed email follow-ups after each visit (multiple paragraphs). If we were only engaging with Dr. Ryan, this would have been a glowing review. Our only regret is that she is no longer our vet. read more

Never a bad experience here. The front desk staff is always pleasant and Dr. Klein goes into detail during the time of the examination. Unfortunately due to the pandemic I'm unable to go inside the office, but they have a waiting room area while you wait. Dr. Klein called me after the exam was performed with my pooch and the young lady at the front went over the medication for Lulu. Important context: The experience I am referring to took place during the COVID-19 lockdown. I had been a customer of Alison Animal Hospital for a little under two years when I scheduled an appointment for my 3-year-old dog, Ruby, who was experiencing signs of an ear infection. At the time, my previous experiences at Alison Animal Hospital -- mainly with Dr. Ryan -- had been positive. However, on the day of Ruby's ear appointment, I had the "pleasure" of working with Dr. Alex Klein, who displayed a level of arrogance and insensitivity that should preclude him from treating any animal again. For full context, my dog Ruby has separation anxiety and is generally fearful (she's a rescue). However, she has never expressed aggression, and at 30 pounds, she is very easy to handle -- especially in a clinical environment. Additionally, the staff at Alison Animal Hospital had addressed Ruby's anxiety adequately on previous occasions. Ruby's condition -- along with the medication she receives to treat it -- is documented in her charts. When Ruby and I (and my fiancee) showed up at Alison Animal Hospital, she was displaying her typical signs of anxiety (tail under the leg, skittishness). At the door, we were greeted by Dr. Alex Klein (due to COVID rules we had to ring the doorbell before proceeding in), who, when seeing Ruby's anxiety, slammed the door shut precluding any conversation while muttering "this is completely unacceptable." The door closing prevented us from entering the building and also nearly crushed Ruby's foot. Unable to enter the office, we waited outside. When Dr. Klein returned, he cracked the door open, handed us an unmarked bottle of pills, and said, "these are sedatives. I refuse to see you today, but if you come back, give your dog these before you arrive." We refused the pills and told him that we'd be taking our business elsewhere. Minutes after leaving, we received an email with Ruby's medical records and the text "best of luck" in the body. I happened to notice that Dr. Alex Klein often responds to the negative reviews on yelp with the same "best of luck" sign off. So, Dr. Klein, as you craft your spiteful response, I wish you the best of luck, reflecting on why you treat your customers with such contempt. Best of luck. read more

Our cat had been a patient at Alison Animal Hospital for several years. Over the years I have noticed a decline in the quality of the practice, but I kept going. Specifically, the office staff is disorganized and not particularly friendly. Recently, there has been difficulty reaching the office due to construction which affected their phone system, but their attempt at facilitating contact was poor. Sadly, our last visit this week was due to our Cat's rapid decline in health. We saw Dr Revenco who was very kind and straightforward in his assessment and options that were available to us, one of which was to euthanize our cat. We weren't ready that day so we chose a little palliative care and were told that we could come back for euthanasia services during regular office hours. When it became obvious to us that the time had arrived we called the office to arrange the visit only to be told that we had to arrange another appointment with Dr Ryan for assessment. They called it a quality of life appointment. Not only that, but they weren't sure if Dr Ryan would be able to see us that day. It had already been several days since we saw Dr Ravenco and we felt we had already reached our decision based on his assessment. I should add that Ricky was about to turn 16, no youngster. This inconsistent management made an already sad and difficult time even worse. We ended up going to another vet who treated us immediately with kindness and efficiency. Alison Animal Hospital was a great disappointment at a time that we needed some support and kindness. The office staff seemed confused and had no idea who we were or what we needed. It's been a complete 180 for my cat since I've been taking her to Greenwood Vet: her skin allergies are under control, and the vets are always very thoughtful about prescribing medications as needed. As much as I appreciated Dr. Ryan, leaving Alison Animal Hospital was truly the best thing that could've happened to my cat. Another thing of note: you'll find lots of five-star reviews praising Dr. Klein from accounts where it's the only review they ever write. This is very hard for me to write, both because I like Dr. Ryan as a person very much, and because reviewing the details makes me so angry that she allowed my cat to lose half her body weight and so angry at myself for not switching vets sooner. So I'm just going to post the email I sent them 3 days ago - still haven't had a response. I also want to add yet another medication that my cat is now on that Dr. Ryan never mentioned: Elura, an appetite stimulant specifically for cats with CKD. And Dr. Klein please keep your standard insensitive, self-gratifying snarky comments to yourself. I'm already in agony that I did nothing while my cat wasted away from substandard care: I brought Savannah to Animal Kind on Friday after multiple vets at Chewy expressed concern at the recommendations that Dr. Ryan was refusing. They started her on vitamin B injections which I had asked Dr. Ryan about months ago. Contrary to what Dr. Ryan said, there are no contraindications with Savannah's health issues. They increased her doses for both mirtazapine and cerinia which I also had been asking about for months but was only prescribed in April. Like many of the vets on Chewy they think weight gain could help to stabilize her liver enzymes. Poor Savannah is now down to 6 pounds. She lost an additional pound in 5 weeks. The vitamin B Dr Ryan refused to prescribe is also an appetite stimulant. They put her on prednisolone which again, I asked about months ago and was refused. They said that yes it could be a risk so they provided guidance on how to monitor Savannah's breathing to see if it starts causing heart problems. Meanwhile, she is benefiting from the treatment. They think she has inflammatory bowel disease which is part of why she is losing weight, because of difficulties absorbing food, and the steroid will address this. Finally. If she does well on the steroid they will consider the SubQ fluids which they also agree would be helpful, obviously, because Savannah has kidney disease. Savannah is now eating Rx renal diet food which Dr. Ryan said last fall she wouldn't eat, back before her kidney disease hadn't escalated to stage three. Kidney damage is irreversible and can only be slowed. We could have started that process almost a year ago but Dr. Ryan advised against it. Animal Kind also requires masks indoors so people don't have to choose between their own health and that of their pets. And they allow people to accompany their pets into the exam rooms, properly masked. And unlike Allison, they haven't had to turn patients away for a week because their veterinarians are out sick. I like Dr. Ryan a lot. I think she genuinely cares about the animals and people she sees at Alison. I have no words to describe how upset I am that so many measures could have been implemented last summer, or even earlier this year if Alison didn't lift the indoor mask requirement and tell me that I, a client with multiple disabling conditions, would have to wait outside in the sub-freezing weather. Savannah is now taking denamarin every morning. Maybe she wouldn't be jaundiced if I had started this last fall. Maybe if the email I sent begging for an appetite stimulant because she was wasting away hadn't been ignored she wouldn't have deteriorated this much. Maybe if I had put her on the renal diet last fall her kidney disease wouldn't have escalated. Thankfully I decided to put her on a low phosphorus diet so her phosphorus is still low; Dr. Ryan said to give her whatever she would eat so now the only wet food Savannah will eat is fancy feast, which I only gave her out of desperation to get her to eat. I wouldn't have become so desperate if mirtazapine (appetite stimulant), cerinia (anti-nausea), vitamin B, steroids, had been prescribed to her earlier and prevented months of deterioration. The renal and liver support supplements Dr Ryan finally recommended in April, after I had to cancel my first vacation in 2 years because Savannah's health crashed, might have been eaten and helped if I had started them when Savannah still would have eaten them. read more

A couple years back, I took my 3 year old cat here because he had bruxism (he was grinding his jaws very badly). They concluded without any testing that it is probably a dental issue and that I need to bring him in for a sedated examination, then further treatment. So I dropped him off before work, and they said they'd call me at 1pm before they move forward with any treatment. We specifically coordinated time because I had a work meeting before then. I did NOT get a maximum quote from them, they said they wouldn't know until they took a look. They called right before noon. I missed their call because of a work meeting. I texted the number to say I would call them back. When I called them back at 1pm (the time we agreed on) they said they had gone ahead taken an x-ray to confirm it wasn't TMJ, extracted 5 teeth, ground down 1 and performed another two periodontal procedures. The bill was $1200. I was a student intern making $11 an hour. When I went to pick my cat up I confronted Dr. Klein, because I had specifically told them I can't communicate with them before 1 and they had said it wasn't a problem. I asked him for reconsideration considering the fact that they performed multiple procedures on my cat without my consent. He said they would give a discount out of good will, but then the office manager came in and flipped the narrative -- saying they can only provide a 5 month payment plan. The craziest thing is HE WAS STILL GRINDING HIS JAWS. I contacted them again and they agreed to reexamine him, but later I realized he had only been seen by the vet tech, not Dr. Klein. She told me with a straight face that "He's just a funny fellow that grinds his teeth." The next vet I took him to diagnosed it as a symptom of stomach issues + acid reflux and treated him accordingly. The grinding went away. In conclusion, I spent $1200 on this place that has no idea what they're doing. They are poor at communicating, and are ok with dumping multiple unnecessary procedures on your pet without proper consent.. And then they'll try to guilt you by saying that it was "in the interest of the pet." read more

Dr. Ryan and her staff are fantastic! I trekked here from upper manhattan (yes, seriously) because of the glowing yelp reviews and I am so glad I came. I was running very, very late (horrible MTA issues...what's new) and they worked with me to find an opening. When I first got there, I was really nervous - I actually thought the front desk was unfriendly at first - but as I started to work with them I realized everyone here was kind. They have a keurig machine in the waiting room, and since I had a very long wait (due to me missing my appt), they let me hang out in an exam room with my cat to let her stretch out her legs! Very kind of them, and I really appreciated that. Dr. Ryan was so good with my cat. You can tell they really love animals here. She was extremely informative, non-judgmental, and open about pricing (I always feel awkward talking about money, but I appreciate that it was no big deal to discuss here!). The base fee / first appointment fee was $65, just for any readers wondering. Overall, I had a really pleasant time here, and I feel like I found a place I could trust with the health of my little cat. Took our dog in for a 9:30 echocardiogram appointment (that we had to prepay in full, btw, to make the appointment). Arrived at 9:15 and was the second pet in the waiting room. By 10 a.m. the waiting room was packed with cats and dogs (about 9-10 animals) but the person in charge of the echocardiograms still had not arrived. When the they did arrive, animals were being called in one by one but not my pet. I did go up to the desk and ask when we would be seen as we had been there an hour and was told that they do all the cats first. But when a dog that arrived after us and had an appointment for an echocardiogram after us was called before us I voiced my displeasure. (At this point, there were only 4 pets and owners still waiting to be seen, it was an hour past our appointment time, and we had been there for an hour and fifteen minutes). We were the next pet called and the echocardiogram took all of 5 minutes. Also, they took most of the pets in without owners. Neither the person who performed the procedure nor a veterinarian ever spoke to me (or anyone else whose pet was taken without them). The office manager asked all the questions when we arrived and relayed information back to me after the procedure. Not my preferred way of doing things. (Further, I write this review over a week since the appointment and we have yet to receive the results - not a phone call, not an email). read more

The folks at the front desk are always attentive and communicative. We always chat and make jokes. The same can be said for the rest of the staff, from technicians to the vets. My 6 year old sassage queen needed her teeth cleaned recently after never having it done and very little brushing over the years. We prepared for the worst -- extractions, decay, etc. But low and behold, she emerged with spotless and healthy teeth after surgery. A very affordable bill clocking in under $400 before discounts. Updated review: I've been bringing my dog here for five years and although the vets and vet techs have all been wonderful and I've been happy with their care, I always end up having issues with the front office part of this business that have been exacerbated by their new procedures during COVID. I honestly almost never write reviews. But this was just so gross I don't want other people's dog's to suffer as well. 1. I brought my dog in for an annual exam and a ear infection My dog is older now, has floppy ears and is prone to ear infections. And she has always been given an easy to use and apply antibiotic that pours into the ear. I can hear it. I can even feel it when I massage it. It works At this vet, the antibiotic that my large dog was given was a very unusual one that was highly inadequate for her size. It was an extremely small bottle, with an extremely narrow snout and the antibiotic itself was very thick. It would not come out without squeezing extremely hard, and even then only in very small amounts, with no noise. Of course this squeezing could only be done when it was pointed down into the ear canal, to be sure my dog's ear received the medicine. So there was no clue what antibiotics made into my dog's ear. And I could not hear anything when massaging. Also, I use an ear rinse and I bought the wrong one by mistake. It had made a real mess of things (might have contributed to the crazy level of infection). So I asked, is it safe to get her ear cleaned/groomed. I was told no. But they also did not clean out her ear even though she was caked with this weird cleaner. It was terrible. I spent the next week wiping the outside of her ear with alcohol swaps, to avoid a bath out of fear--EXTREME fear created from the energy from the vet. She had actually made me cry and feel my dog was almost dying. 2. I brought my dog back a week later. My dog still had her ear infection. When we arrived they wanted to take my dog from me. Understandable. COVID. But it is also understandable my dog barked. She was nervous. The vet came out and yelled "no barking." Seriously! And made us go outside, and told her technicians to treat my dog outside!!! WTF? LOL! Her technicians (thankfully) instead opened a room downstairs and me let me stay with my nervous dog. I told the technicians that there was an issue with the antibiotic choice, and that my dog still had an ear infection. However, my dog did not see the vet again. Instead it appears the vet told her technicians that the issue that my dog needed an ear cleaning and I needed a "lesson.OMG!!! Seriously!? I was at least glad that they cleaned my dog's ears this time. The technicians squirted a one-time antibiotic into my dog's ear and told me to return in two weeks as that was how long this antibiotic would need to work. Again they told me my dog couldn't be groomed (it was really REALLY gross). 3. I canceled my next appointment as I ended up with covid (flu level not hospital) But it was two weeks later my dog still had an ear infection. I realized I had zero faith in this vet and did not reschedule the appointment. I instead have found a different vet. 4. I did bring my dog back for her scheduled second round vaccine shot another two weeks later While I had zero confidence in the vet, I figured a shot is a shot, and I had already paid I had been told that I would not have to pay again. Instead, this vet charged me $120 for a vaccine (a shot that should of been around $40, and I already paid for). I called to have it corrected, and the technician told me that was the cost. Up until this point, I had suspicions, but I been holding judgement. However, at this point it is very clear they had been letting my dog suffer to boost profits. I was furious. My dog needed antibiotics that worked--not some drawn out process for profits. When I went on to explain just how terrible their care appeared to be, the technician then lied on the phone and told me that they had only given my dog one antiobiotic. I guess she felt a need to justify her vet's terrible care?? I get that she might be defensive for her employer, but it is her job to handle these situations. Not lie and make it worse. If what you want is a drawn out process, in which you overpay so you feel you must be doing right, at the expense of your dog's health, go here. Otherwise avoid!!!! read more

Both Dr. Ryan and Dr.Klein are very nice and extremely helpful. They explained everything and for those reviews saying Dr Klein was abrupt or rude I found the opposite. He was as nice as can be . The only thing I'm glad they now allow you to go in with your pet. During Covid I could understand but it went on way to long. Dr Klein is truly the most wonderful vet! Our dog, sylvie, has struggled w a number of issues -- she has mass cell tumors that she needs to get removed and she has also needed abdominal surgery a few times for ingesting stuff she shouldn't have ingested. Dr. Klein and the vet techs at Alison have been by our side every single time we've needed them. They've seen sylvie through a number of difficult procedures and they've seen us through all our anxieties. Dr. Klein is consistently responsive, helpful, and kind. TRULY our dog would not be alive (many times over) without him and we trust him wholeheartedly. I'm not sure how anyone could hate on Dr K or Alison Animal but I know they've been wonderful for us and for all of our friends (we've recommended Alison to everyone we know). read more

Please note, that despite Alison Animal Hospital's failure in providing proper care for my dog, Kori (male AmStaff), and my subsequent decision made on July 28th to have him treated elsewhere going forward, I did not at first intend on submitting any review. In fact, this is my first Yelp review. It's not my preferred tactic to demonize people or businesses, but after their egregious and passive aggressive "termination letter" dated July 2nd (see attached), I am left with no choice but to warn the community about this altogether incompetent individual, Dr. Alex Klein, and his fledgling practice. Dr. Klein is by legal standards a licensed veterinarian, but in my opinion, he is a man of highly questionable moral turpitude and psychological soundness. My most recent experience with his practice was a crash course in exactly what not to do as both a veterinarian/veterinary practice. I brought Kori in on Monday, June 25, in fear that he was having a bad reaction to Bravecto (flea and tick medication). He had never taken the drug prior, and began vomiting the day after it was given; a common side effect of the drug. Considering his otherwise healthy profile, my assumption was grounded. I explained my concerns to the Practice Manager and Staff Vet. Blood tests were given that Monday, and again on that Wednesday (6/27). Both tests came up normal, and so the link to Bravecto was discredited. I still had my doubts, and to be fair, the possibility of Kori having a blockage was initially addressed that Monday, and again on Wednesday by Dr. Klein. But despite my skepticism, I vehemently deny the implication that I rejected any course of care, as propounded in their "termination letter." Kori does not hold still for X-rays, and so I had apprehension for him to be sedated given his weakened condition. Dr. Klein did not contest my concerns, and at which point he suggested I have him taken elsewhere for an ultrasound, which may be achieved without sedation with greater success than a traditional X-ray. FYI, AAH claims to have an ultrasound machine on site, but can only be administered via technician, by appointment. Upon leaving, I immediately made an appointment elsewhere, in hopes of scheduling an ultrasound. Although an ultrasound was still not achieved at the following practice, their staff vet who treated Kori stated that despite his weakened state, sedation for X-ray would not be an issue since his blood work was normal. Kori was then given X-rays, which were not conclusive of any blockage.  The next day (Thurs, 7/28) Kori's condition did not improve and so my concerns intensified. He was then twice administered subcutaneous fluids and treated with anti-nausea medication, at two different animal hospitals, neither of which were AHH. Although he seemed on the mend for most of Thursday afternoon and evening, his vomiting returned aggressively by Thursday night. By Friday, I took Kori to VERG-North, where he was examined by two veterinarians. At this point, I still had my concerns that his failing health was linked to Bravecto. A suggestion which both vets took into consideration, without judgement. Within minutes, they arrived at a diagnostic process, starting with an ultrasound. No more than ten minutes later, the ultrasound was conducted with conclusive evidence of a blockage. Emergency surgery was then performed, and the blockage was removed. I was advised to pick Kori up the next day (Sat, 6/30), where he's been under my care since.  VERG succeeded within minutes at what Alison Animal Hospital failed to do over the course of several days, which is to quickly implement and take action on the diagnostic process. To add insult to injury, Dr. Klein noted on the "termination letter" that I inhibited their ability to correctly treat him [Kori]. This is nonsense. Again, to insinuate that I would take any course of action that would prevent my dog from being properly treated is absurd. I can disagree with his claim that Kori's condition was not linked to Bravecto, and he can still make a proper diagnosis, these are not mutually exclusive propositions.  Furthermore, and contrary to Dr. Klein's assertion, AHH inhibited their own ability to correctly treat Kori, as exposed by their response to my concerned email from Tuesday, July 26, where I stated: "We're now past the 72 marker of no food, so the situation's becoming more dire. Please advise." In which they replied: "At this time, all vets are comfortable with waiting until tomorrow to examine."  Dr. Klein's clumsy approach to treating animals is both flawed and dismissive. But what's equally if not more concerning is how Dr. Klein placed more of an effort to deny responsibility by drafting an aversive and obnoxious letter, than he did to arrive at a proactive solution to properly care for my animal. One who deflects accountability and adequate performance with passive aggression simply lacks the solvency to be a practicing veterinarian. read more

I brought my dog in after she spent the day before in an emergency vet as on Sunday allison is closed nor did they respond to my e mail of having a sick dog. When I called on Monday they wanted to give me an appointment for Thursday i said my dog is sick, NOT EATING and it cant wait. They begrudgingly gave me an appointment at 330 pm They charged me 444.00 for the visit $244.00 was the treatment and they added $200.00 for same day appointment fee. Where do I start ? Dr.Klein is absolutely amazing at what he does. I am a proud pet owner to 2 Pitbull mixes and am very over protective of my girls. When I found out my oldest needed knee surgery I panicked and went to 3 different vets for opinions. I battled with the options of different procedures to choose from and was pretty much having a meltdown from the anxiety of over thinking everything. After speaking to Dr.Klein several times and running his suggestions through my head I finally said okay I feel comfortable with this doctor. His confidence and knowledge of my dogs orthopedic Concern was very reassuring which was exactly what I needed! I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. He performed the knee surgeries on both of my dogs this past summer and they are doing amazing. Naturally, after the surgery I watched my dogs aftercare like a hawk and had some questions along the way through their recovery. He was ALWAYS a phone call away to answer every question and concern I had. Even after the recovery time started to come to an end and i knew they were going to be okay Dr.Klein called to see how they were doing. This type of thoughtfulness and true passion for animals is hard to find and I'm glad I have him to be my dogs doctor. I HIGHLY recommend this veterinary office. If your looking for a personable and knowledgable caring doctor this is where you need to go! I wish him the best with his practice and many years to come! Hands down Alison Animal Hospital is the best choice for a vet in this area! I'm writing this because I was the one scrolling through millions of these reviews before making appointments in the area so I know how hard it can be to find the right vet, especially when your pet needs urgent care. I recently moved to the area with my cat and she very quickly contracted an eye issue, which turned out to be a corneal ulcer. I went to a different vet nearby first and was very unhappy with their services. When I came to Alison I had been stressed for a week after that initial appointment elsewhere, giving my cat eye ointment 3 times a day while keeping a cone on her, and was praying this would be a better experience. They blew me away! I saw Dr. Ryan was recommended on a few online forums so I made an appointment with her and she is the best. The whole team did an amazing job making my cat and I feel comfortable while performing thorough and compassionate care for her. Dr. Ryan explained everything to me fully and made thoughtful recommendations for my cat's overall wellness. They take the time to give your pet the best possible options and they're owned by the other vet at the practice--a world of difference from these other vets that are bought out by corporations and price gouging. Update- I'm so so so glad that the "manager" never called me back and my cat when on immunotherapy. The certified allergist told me it would take a YEAR to see if my cat responded to this. My cat does well on antihistamines but she does excellent on an extremely low dose of prednisolone (steroids). read more

My dog and I left NY one year ago to move to California. I knew it would be a challenge to find a vet as wonderful as Dr. Klein as I was right. Have yet to find someone even close to his caliber and have already been to two vets and one ER vet. There are things I took for granted with Dr. Klein such as advising me on how to long to give pain meds and getting medications in pill form (last night for a torn nail, ER vet prescribed both in liquid form and Coconut Dragon tried to kill me when I administered it). Had to call around to six vet offices before someone gave me advice on how to get this stuff in pill form. Had I been in NY and called Dr. Klein's office, they would have gladly helped me immediately. Believe me when I say Dr. Klein is the unicorn of vets. Wish I could find someone close to his kindness and expertise in Los Angeles. We miss you Dr. Klein and your wonderful staff!!! Words can't express my gratitude for the staff and the follow up for our little Henry. The service was fast with so much in house, we had blood results in 30 min, pup back in our arms after xrays and tests in 20 minutes and the place was clean, bright and beautiful. I will never go anywhere else in NY and the act that doctor sent the xrays for another look over with radiology was priceless. We were explained in great detail what they recommend and why and the Dr Klien sent the results via email to me at 2 am. read more

Definitely going to be my go-to for vet services. The wait time wasn't that bad and everyone was really apologetic for me even having to wait at all. When we went into the room, the nurses were so kind and took care of my cat very gently and at his pace. The doctor came in and he took a couple minutes just to sit with my cat and make him comfortable before proceeding with the check up, which I super appreciated. He was very thorough, asking a lot of questions and considering all options as it concerned next steps. Price is pretty reasonable for NYC. First time visits are $80 + cost of treatment such as shots, etc. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a new vet. read more

I've been going here with my dog since I adopted him from a shelter --recommended by them -- 4 years ago and I can give nothing but praise to Dr. Klein, Dr. Ryan, and the whole staff. They all work incredibly hard and have been extremely accommodating when/if I've ever needed a last minute appointment. Some things I appreciate: 1. Their holistic approach to animal care. 2. Their combination of knowledge, practicality, and humor. 3. They are friendly and call my dog handsome. This review is mostly for Dr. Klein. Dr.Ryan is our regular vet but we saw Dr. Klein when she was away. In both instances we saw him we were charged for maximum amount of tests and medicines yet not provided any clear answers about our pet's health, rather shuffled along to another vet. We tried to reach out to the office on multiple occasions to get more information and recieved either no communication or extremely slow responses that disregarded the pertinent questions we were addressing. Never did Dr. Klein pick up a phone and explain anything to us... In two separate instances now, it seems that his pattern was to charge you as much as possible and then push you out of the office so another vet can deal with the issue, all the while ignoring you in the process. Really disappointing, in the meantime our pet is in critical need of care but apparently that is of no concern to this "vet" - Dr. Klein nor Dr. Ryan as it seems. Since they have now pushed us out of the practice. What saddens me the most is we have been loyal to Dr. Ryan for 10+ years, coming to see her cross town even though it was a big inconvenience for us. After this singular horrible experience with Dr. Klein, instead of sorting the situation out she just tossed us out. Shows how much she cares about her patients and right when our dog is in most urgent need of care. She has been our dog's vet for since she was a baby and it is sad that she is now abandoning her when she is getting old and sick. Avoid this place, they don't care about animals. Do NOT go here if your animal is really sick - just head straight to an emergency hospital. The staff here is lovely, but the slow and unclear communication could be the cause of a very serious issue with your pet. We didn't even get to talk to the vet after our pet was seen. He is now in the emergency room, and hopefully will pull through. read more
