I bought and bike form them recently and had the best experience. The staff is so helpful, ready to answer all questions! Even if you're asking the mechanic what the breaks do... my bike is beautiful and just as discussed. The lady at the front desk was so kind and helped me pick out the perfect bike for me. And they made my dream, an ebike cruiser. So happy with my purchase and look forward to returning for my bike needs. 10/10 recommend to any level of biker! read more

Alki Bike and Board - Bikes Near Me - Seattle, Washington

They charged me $30.82 for a SRAM PC830 chain which is already an absurd price, given that many other Seattle retailers have them for less than $12. They also did not sell it to me in the manufacturers packaging, it was instead in ziploc bag. After leaving the shop I double checked the price and went back to confirm I was charged for the right chain, thinking they rang me up for a 10 speed chain or something. The owner not only double downed that I was charged for the right item, but also he gave me a "deal". Credit where it's due, there was no fuss with processing the return from the owner. When I confirmed that REI, EVO, and Greggs all have this exact chain listed at less than $12(and in stock) he just told me, "yeah I'd pop over there then." I won't be back, but if you choose to do business here I'd be very cautious and check their work. read more

If you have a normal bike, I'm sure Alki Bike and Board Shop can handle it. If you have a mildly complicated bike, definitely go there. If, however, you have a questionably overpowered long-tail cargo bike running a custom Bafang BBSHD mid-drive setup that may or may not have been engineered during a caffeine-fueled "more capability and power is always a good idea" phase... these are your people. I rolled in with what can only be described as a mechanical riddle wrapped in an enigma of wiring harnesses and torque sensors. My Bafang BBSHD setup had become inhabited by a small tribe of mean spirited electrical gremlins. I'm capable with bike mechanics, but this had gotten over my head - I was bracing for a massive bill (maybe significant part replacements). Instead, the team at Alki Bike & Board just... handled it. Calmly. Confidently. No drama. No upsell. Just pure competence. The bill was less than 1/10 what I had expected. This crew is overseen by a guy called Dayton - I'm not sure if he is more Thor or Hercules. On one hand, he seems like he could summon lightning directly into a mid-drive motor. On the other hand, he has the calm, slightly amused strength of someone who has already defeated twelve labors involving stripped bolts and cross-threaded bottom brackets. Either way, the man is operating on a different plane. He diagnosed the issues quickly, explained everything in plain English (instead of "mystical bike wizard dialect"), and fixed the whole situation for a small fraction of what I was mentally preparing to pay. I didn't believe him when he told me. Bottom line: Extremely knowledgeable Honest pricing No ego, no attitude Dayton = certified bike demi-god If you are near West Seattle and your bike needs anything beyond a gentle pat on the saddle, this is the spot. 10/10. Will bring my mechanical chaos machine back henceforth! read more

I was leaving for a camping trip when I noticed my bike was not shifting correctly, I brought it in and they quickly diagnosed my problem and got me all fixed up the same day, great service, I would recommend Alki Bike and Board to all. read more

THIS IS THE BEST BIKE STORE EVER!!! I was wanting a bike FOREVER but I had a very specific vision on what I wanted my cruiser to look like. After looking around I saw this bike (in my picture) but I was told this bike had an owner. One of the employees (I'm so sorry I forgot your name!) offered to show me what similar bikes we could order online. The manager saw this and said they had that bike in the store now and told the employee it was for sale by its previous owner. Long story short not only did this store contact the owner to sell me the bike BUT THEY HELPED MAKE MY VISION COME TO LIFE! They helped me with my basket and got me the cutest helmet! When my bike was finally ready for pickup and I saw it, I seriously wanted to hug the employees for making my vision come to life! Coming from a first time owner, I REALLY appreciate everything you guys did for me! My cat loved it too! Thank you guys! 100% recommended! read more

I felt very helped by the staff at Alki Bike & Board today! My son's main mode of transportation had a seat issue I was proud of myself for getting by there to get it fixed but they were closed. They came to the door and let me in and helped Me anyways. A++++ for customer service and being kind for them today! Any bike or board issues big or small or purchases needing to be made this is the place to come! read more

The service here is awesome! There's always someone ready to help out & very easy to talk to, making it easy to ask questions. Pricing is well within reason & reflective of the quality of the bikes/products in the shop. I absolutely recommend you go here first for your bike needs :) read more

I prefer to shop local when I can and Alki Bike and Board is my "go to" bike shop in West Seattle. I've had my own mountain bike for 20 years and continue to be a Trek fan, but I have taken it to Alki Bike and board for accessories and repairs. I took my sons Trek Precaliber Suspension bike there the other day for a tune-up and they did a great job. I was wanting to update the pedals, water bottle and grips and I was really happy with the selection that they have there. The customer service is always superior and the people there take time to talk to you and understand what you're looking for, in order to best inform their recommendations. They generally get you in very quickly and do their best to get you out as soon as they can. I've considered buying a bike from them, but aren't super familiar with the brands they sell. I'm sure when I'm in the market again, I will strongly consider them. The fees that they charge are reasonable and I haven't had an occasion to see if they stand by their work, by bringing anything back to be fixed again, because they always seem to fix it correctly the first time. I can recommend highly. read more

Bought our 2 year old a glider and helmet here. Excellent service! We were able to try in store and bought something pre-built to go home with. Very knowledgeable staff. Prices are comparable to other online retailers, with the added benefit of excellent customer service, and being able to support a local business! read more

Always have had good experiences here. They tend to want to make sure you're happy with everything. I bought a Surly big dummy cargo and they converted to an ebike. I had some accessories on the back that weren't ideal and they refunded it no problem and ordered me the new product that I'm very happy with. Julian did the work, seems like a cool guy. read more

This place rocks. They did an extensive tuneup on a bike my father gave me, which has great sentimental and functional value to me-- they took a bike that's over a decade old and made it run as well as it did when it was brand new. Then, on a separate trip, my daughter found a used kids bike that they sold to us for a very fair price and tuned it up as well. To top it all off-- they're friendly and cool! A great West Seattle gem read more

I was what bike stores would refer to as a "worst case scenario." I watched a few YouTube videos and thought I knew what I was doing. I disassembled an electric bike all the way down to the motor's gearing and still couldn't find the source to my problem. Julian (in the service dept) basically took my frame, wheels and 3 grocery bags of ebike parts and called me backI two days later with a fully functioning ebike, including derailleur, battery mount, brakes, electrical components, etc. completely installed and ready to go. AB&B probably charged me half of what they should've so I delivered some beverages from a nearby Safeway as a well-earned thank you. I have already been spreading the word of their stellar service to my biking friends. They are my "go to" shop from now on! read more

Alki B&B was the second shop I visited on my hunt for an ebike (only because the first shop opened an hour earlier that day). Compared to my experience with their competitor, the staff at Alki B&B totally lived up to their claim of being "The Friendliest bike shop in Seattle." I ended up experiencing four of their employees before walking out the door with my new bike, and each one of them was totally nice, extremely knowledgeable and bend-over-backwards helpful. If just for that experience alone, I would highly recommend them. :) read more

Brought in a Trek bike that was in the shape of a downed soldier, left with a Medal of Honor. Wyatt and Chris went to town on it, decking it out with sensible fenders, cool lights, slick chains, and the longest handlebars and guy could ask for. Super fun and friendly dudes (lookin' at you Chris)! Helped me install my light on my helmet, even gave me a bell on-da-house. Just a joy, this life! read more

I've purchased many bikes from Alki Bike and Board for my whole family, and two e bikes for myself. I put 5,000 miles on my first one and then (as expected) I needed a new battery. Stu set me up with a new one and a tune up and I'm good to go. I always feel well cared for by the entire team. Drop in and check it out. Cedar read more

I'm new to the biking world, I had purchased an ebike a couple weeks ago and of course I have been riding it all over town on the weekends. last weekend I drove to the ferry and cruised Vashon. It was a lot of fun. On my way back...just past Alki something seemed funny and I stop and check to see what the problem was. Sure enough, back tire is flat. Crap... what do I do now? I'm not experienced enough to fix it myself, and I don't even have the tools or accessories to do it. My buddy comes by in his truck, picks me up and we are taking it to my place but as we approach California Ave I call to see if they fix tires. They do and I arrive in about 2 minutes. The tech fixes it in about 20 minutes and I'm good to go. What a relief. I was so grateful that they were open on Sundays and basically he dropped everything to fix the tire. I have also bought a few things there and obviously should pick up a few more things for safer travels. read more

I recently purchased an electric bike kit (Bafang BBS02) for my mountain bike at Alki Bike and Board. It took me over a year to make the leap to an ebike, and I'm so glad that I did. My only regret is not having done it sooner, as it is RIDICULOUSLY FUN to ride an ebike! Having hit middle age, and acquiring some health issues along the way, it was hard to keep riding my bike regularly, especially on the "tired" days. Since transforming my bike to electric, I am riding more now than I have in a decade, including commuting to work. I look forward to riding every day now, knowing that I won't be a sweaty, tired mess when I arrive at my job. I can put as much or as little effort into cycling, depending on my energy level. Stu, the owner, and his son Julian, are my official bike gurus, having answered the dozens of questions I had about ebike kits. They are both polite, super knowledgeable, and very passionate about bicycles. All the good reviews here are well earned. They offer an excellent warranty on their ebike kits, and follow through on the after care. I had a minor issue, which they addressed promptly, and without any complaint. Not only did I make the right decision to get an ebike, I also found the right place to install it. Lastly, I called several shops about kit installation, and Alki Bike and Board had the best prices, by a lot. read more

I've been to a lot of bike shops over the course of 35 years, and I love this shop so much. Stu and his staff are really knowledgable, up-front and accommodating, and their service prices are really reasonable. If you have a minor issue they do all they can to squeeze you in for a 'while you wait' service if possible. The atmosphere is very casual and warm, no pressure at all to purchase something you didn't ask for. Simply great advice about whatever you need, whether affirming or dissuasive as needed. They'll guide you in the right direction. Totally authentic people, not snooty or pompous about biking culture. When there you typically see a large number of long-term clients stop in who they know by name and have a great relationship with. They treat first-time customers the same way. Friendly with my 12yo, she digs going there and scoping the goods. Very highly recommended. read more

Fantastic customer service A++++++. I brought in my disabled friend's walker that was having issues, and the great guy in the shop came out, said "give me 10 minutes" then delivered it to my car, to the joy of my friend. I really wanted to buy my 3 year old's birthday present here. I try to make an effort to shop local when I can so I stopped in. My daughter has asked for a pink bike and we thought we'd surprise her with one for her birthday next week. I don't know very much about child sizing and online charts seemed to suggest she's in between sizes. I was pretty excited to walk in and see a 12" pink bike as soon as I entered. However, it was like pulling teeth to try and get answers out of the employee about whether it was the right size. After probing, I was able to gather that "it would probably fit" and that she "doesn't need a fitting". Upon asking the price I was told it "probably cost $180-200". I asked if they had a 14" to look at... "no". No offer to order one if that was the size I wanted. I asked if i should measure her inseam and come back to get it and he gave me some vague answer and went back to eating his lunch. Gah! Such a painful experience! I was fully ready to drop a ridiculous amount on a child's bike to support a local business, but the experience was so frustrating that I decided I'd go home, research how to measure her myself and buy it online. I did appreciate that they had what I wanted in stock AND put together, but I couldn't bring myself to shop there. Such a disappointment read more

I love these guys and this store!! They are all laid back and way cool, and, most importantly for your biking and boarding needs, they are really knowledgeable. The store is owned by a husband and wife- Stu and Gabby. They are super sweet, and Gabby even helped me find an awesome place to stay in Orcas (is that her job title?- no!). Stu is completely and utterly devoted to helping his community and is really environmentally savvy. They also promote various biking events throughout the area. I highly recommend this store for a new or used bike- I scored the fiance one here for $200- and he is 6'6"! Way to accomodate! Also, I cannot wait to rock my ski outfit from here- I got a jacket and pants for $100! Watch out on the slopes (especially once I try snowboarding-- it will be my first season at that!). Lastly, if you take the bus and want to bring your bike, they have a bus rack that you can practice on... That way, you are not nervous about your bike falling off the bus, or even about taking too long and ultimately getting run over (okay, morbid I know). Check out Alki Bike and Board- you will be happy that you did and you will love it! read more

I wanted to write a review for the wonderful tune up I had on my bike in March. I was a little leary at first because they upsold me to the mid range tuneup and then wanted to charge a shop fee for rags and such. I thought that was strange but, I must say, I've had two other tune-ups on this bike and this shop was the ONLY one to be able to fix my shifting problems. I feel like I have a new bike. It is so amazing. They cleaned up my bike and it looked brand new too. I liked that they had a 90 day guarantee on their work too. This is my new place for tune-ups. Check them out! read more

I will not go back. Ever. First time: I brought my mountain bike in for service. Asked for a tune, put a little air in the shock and make sure the gears are shifting smoothly. Got the bike back, drove 80 miles to my favorite trail...the shock was soft and the gears were still way off. Day wasted. Grrrr. Second time: I brought in my old Kona with top mount Suntour shifters. Got the bike back and they had broken off the D ring on the shifter and now it would not shift. It shifted when I brought it in....they actually broke the bike. Super grrrrr. When I brought the bike back in, Stu blamed me. They eventually fixed it but the attitude was AWFUL and I never got a 'sorry!". DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE HERE FOR REPAIR! read more

Incredibly friendly service, but I find I'm having to check their bike repair work. For the past 3 repairs/servicings, I had some issue left behind. Once I fixed it myself, once I brought it back to them to fix, and one I just tolerated (after calling Stu's attention to it.) So this is a great place for the casual rider that isn't bike commuting several miles a day or riding the STP, looking for friendly service and a laid back attitude. read more

Alki Bike and Board are OPEN! Since all schools are closed for the time being my elementary age kid and I have been riding our bikes a lot. My kid also got a highly coveted basket for their bike. Thanks to Chris and the young woman at the cash register for their friendly service! read more

6ish Month Update! The rear wheels and tires Alki B&B sent me home with have held up well over the last 6ish months of commuting and fitness rides. The tires have worn very well, and while the rear wheel has been knocked out of true from time to time by Seattle's abusive roads, it is tough as hell and hasn't gone bendy. Rear hub bearings still spin freely and seem to be holding up, so thanks guys on the recommended commuting wheel and tires. Good value pick. Fun Part! A few weeks after taking the bike in and sorting out what had gone so-so with the work done, riding it to work and back, I decided to try out some riding for speed and fitness. I put my tires up to and past the 100psi pressure level for the first time, and I immediately noticed a pulsating rub on the rear wheel. I checked the brake pads, clear; checked the true and round, fine; then checked for debris in the seat mast, found none, but noticed that my tires had sub-millimeter clearance from the seat stay top. I could barely see light! Whaaaaaaat....? Why mount a wheel and tire combo that is going to leave so little clearance when the tire is at higher pressure levels that even the finest particles of whatsit that litter the local roads can't make it through without scraping? I don't know... I get that it's an outdated race bike and not a cyclocross bike or something, but this thing wasn't going to be in the velodrome, might have checked this after installing the tire and thought it over. Seems like a professional would. So, again, head honcho seems good people, bike mechanics, eeehhhh. I have since been to other places in the area and can recommend whole heartedly Cycle University or Aaron's Bicycle Repair. read more

Decent bike and ride shop. The only thing is it doesn't have any parking. Literally. You have to sneak into Jack in the Box's or Safeway's lot just to get in there.
