They literally told me they wouldn't work on my bike because it was a race bike and poorly kept. (news flash: at-least I ride it). I presented them with a clear description (& videos) of the issue: creaking bottom bracket and screeching rear hub. I even sent receipts of what had recently been replaced on the bike, so they knew what they did not need to do. If you don't want to chase the problem, and aren't confident you can fix the issue, convey the response to the customer in a more tact way (which does not insult the owner). Similar experience with my wife's bike, who separately brought the bike in for service without me involved. They over-charged and set her up with garbage tires that won't stand a chance on seattle city streets. Equally garbage grip tape. Understanding your customers, and their use case, is the number one key to a successful business. Polka Dot does not have this understanding. Look elsewhere. read more

Absolutely great staff and management. Right off the burke and near shopping / restaurants' it's q great place to take a break from a ride, or to chill while getting repairs done. They are extremely helpful if you need advice or a quick fix. I came in with a frozen chain, when I didn't have the tools to deal with it during a ride (mine were stollen from my condo parking garage). They took care of me right away for free! Of course I came back for tune up and they did a great job for reasonable $ and faster than REI would have done it (and possibly better) PDJ is a small owner/operated shop so you're not dealing with a faceless business where you don't even know who manages the place. I went to this shop to have them fit me for a custom built Co-Motion bike. I ended up with an $8000 bike that doesn't fit. The fit process was lacking and I didn't feel they listened to my concerns and instead talked me into something I didn't want. Extremely poor customer service. Matt doesn't return emails and is usually "out" when I called to ask questions. It took him forever to get anything done and to get back to me. I ended up dealing with CoMotion directly and they were somewhat better. I wasn't happy with this experience at all. I have had two Rodriquez bikes built by R&E in Seattle and ended up going back for a third after the failed experiment with Polka Dot Jersey and CoMotion. I recommend R&E over them any day. read more

Excellent service! He staff here is awesomely friendly and not a hint of pretentiousness is to be detected like other bike shops in the area. All too many times I've walked in to cycling shops as a novice rider without a massive spending budget to only be treated as second class by elitist, enthusiast types. A true neighborhood gem! I was riding along the lake and had a problem with a loose water bottle cage. I went in looking for a bolt and they said they wanted to come out and take a look. The mechanic then proceeded to change out the bolts I had for allen wrench compatible ones that he said you had better purchase on and were more reliable. He absolutely wouldn't take money for it. Then, we were riding by again and had a problem with our drum brake. Same story. They did a 10 minute walk through of the brake and did a bunch of testing. In the end, it was a manufacturing defect, so they helped us figure out how to mitigate for the ride home. Again, wouldn't take a cent. Such great people. read more

Nice shop, no muss no fuss. Did the winter overhaul, for $150 they stripped the bicycle down to the frame and cleaned and put it back together. I didn't recognize the bicycle when I got it back, it looked new. But that's cosmetic and 14 or so rides later and it looks like it used to. What's really important is the work, and these guys did a great job, and they guarantee all the work. I say go there, support the little man. read more

I am not impressed with this shop. It is the closest to my house, so I want to be able to go there. But when I went in they treated me like I didn't know anything because I was a girl. I got a flat and asked to borrow some tools and they condescendingly said "Oh, that is a common problem. I can help you fix that." After I explained that I have changed a tire over a hundred times, I was reluctantly given a wrench. Then, even though the store was empty, I was asked to finish fixing my flat outside when I was almost done anyway. I felt insulted when I left this shop. This shop seems to be for those with bikes over $1000 and bikers who only ride on weekends in full gear. For people like myself, who are everyday bike commuters, they will treat you like you don't know anything and you need a mechanic to do the simplest tasks. I would not recommend this shop. read more

Duh dude. Then I asked him if they had shot blocks or some type of nutrition. Bro with the hat turned backwards say "I think we have some scraps around". Ah great bro. Thanks for your table scraps. Then when I went to pay, I was taking out some cash. Again bro with the hat turned backwards say "we don't take cash since Covid" I was like... ok then can I just use my phone? You have tap or Apple Pay? Nope, we don't have that, he says. Then I said "so you're not going to sell me these at all? Bro with the hat turned backwards says, "sorry man". So don't go to this store and expect excellent service. You'll just get a bro with his hat turned backwards and they offer table scraps. Plus retail price on a package of shot blocks is like $3. I had the money. And a whole carton costs the store wholesale of around $24. Even if multiple people who need a little push on a long ride were to ask for free stuff, the store would lose a whopping $24. He and Bob also worked with me every step of the way in building up my bike. When unexpected issues with parts arose, they took care of it. good mechanics are hard to come by. good mechanics who are honest and will tell you what you need and are affordable are like unicorns... i have used PDJ for years as my main mechanic despite living across town in West Seattle I will always take my bike for all repairs and servicing. I took my bike in for a general maintenance and tune up to include having the wheels trued. What I got was described as their deluxe maintenance package. What I received was a bike with essentially two flat tires, chain and sprockets which had not been cleaned except maybe whiped down with a rag, and a foot clip hanging by one loose bolt- all for a $145. There was a clear lack of attention to detail. Every other bike store I've ever used has done a thorough cleaning of chain and sprockets in a general maintenance. Bob, the general manager of the store, explained that he was not responsible for the service area. I wanted to use a close, neighborhood bike shop but came away disappointed. read more

Great service! They did great work on my commuter bike. Andrew, the head mechanic, took all the time needed to explain what options I had available. They're in a wonderful location to cater to hard core cyclists riding the Lake Washington loop but I felt entirely comfortable rolling in with my old beater that needed some fenders installed and some cable work. It's a cool scene on Sunday mornings when many cyclists gather nearby at the coffee shop and stop in to inflate their tires. I'm very happy to have an enthusiastic owner in this shop in a great location. read more

My fiancé and I drove into a garage this morning with the bikes on the roof rack. It ripped his saddle off his bike. Sunday morning 9 am for a 10 am group ride start time. The only bike shop I knew open at this time was PDJ. I called up and Matt answered. I asked if they carried the particular saddle we had broken. Upon learning our situation he encouraged us to come and use a test saddle to get us through our ride knowing it wasn't the same type we'd likely buy. He looked over my fiancé's bike and slapped the test saddle on with a smile and genuine kindness and patience. He looked over my bike to make sure it was safe to ride, found the saddle rails were bent and spent 10 minutes bending it back and repairing it. All for zero payment and no purchase by us today. All with the utmost friendly attitude. This is incredibly uncommon these days and I would recommend this shop for their kind and knowledgable employees and service to anyone. I've been in here a few times this year. Every time, Matt has been extremely helpful. There's none of that stereotypical snobbery you run into sometimes in bike shops. Today he diagnosed a problem on my friends bike (at no charge) - and then quickly fixed a broken spoke on my bike and got us back on the road. I just wish I lived closer, this would be my "go to" bike shop. It's also pretty amazing that they open at 8:00a on weekends. Cycling needs more shops like this. read more

This is a great local bike shop - it maybe the best bike shop in Seattle. Its not fancy but it's in a very fancy hood'. The bike service quality, pricing and knowledge base available from Matt et al is excellent. Nice people.... Extremely overpriced! I was just charged $38.50 to install a headset! As a former bike shop employee I was amazed at the bravado you would need to charge that much. The installer even took the lazy route and installed both cups at once. He was done in 5 minutes. This was not a complete headset install. It was pressing in the cups only. That works out to a shop hourly rate of $420.00. Back to 20/20 Cycles for headset installs for me. read more
