Have taken my bike here for over 2 years- these folks know and love bikes. Feels like a real community store- they are truly interested in their customers needs. I am a daily commuter into downtown Seattle and was getting a flat tire about every 3 weeks due to the state of the bike paths (lots of broken glass). I was replacing my tires every 3 months- had already tried tubeless but still got lots of flats. They suggested kevlar lines tires- a bit heavy- but I haven't had a flat in over 15 months. Repair guy did do a good job. But I was offered an extra service over the phone--new tape on the handlebars. I assumed it would be a nominal charge--I mean, it's tape, right? I show up and the bill is $100 over the quoted price. This might very well be normal, but for amateurs like myself, it's pretty shocking. They really need to be clear about prices when just suggesting extras, otherwise they'll make their customers feel like they got bait and switched, and it reflects very poorly on the stellar work their mechanics do. read more

Took my bike in to fix a flat. Brought my own tube in. I think they charged me only like $10 to fix the flat (other places quoted $30+), plus on top of that, filled my other tire up, and did a check up of my bike after the flat was fixed. He found that the wheels were not quite right, so he trued up the wheels. Didn't charge me for any of the additional work. I ended up bringing my bike in the next week for a full tune-up because I really appreciated their great customer service and willingness to just provide value and ensure my bike was safe for me. Great service. Took 2 bikes in for tuneup. Fixed what needed to be fixed, didn't pad the parts or labor. Cost came in what they estimated. They even worked on my ebike conversation to fix a broken sensor. They couldn't guarantee it would work and I didn't expect them to, but I really appreciated the extra effort. I have been seriously considering replacing my conventional road bike tires with Tannus solid tires because I am constantly plagued with flats which always ruin my ride for the day as it's almost impossible for a guy my age to replace a tube on the side of the road. So I have to call my wife or relative to come and get me. So since Westside is an authorized Tannus dealer/installer I thought I'd stop by and ask a few questions. I don't remember the salesman's name, however, he was very helpful and answered every question I threw at him and didn't hold anything back. We talked for about 10 minutes and even though there were other customers in the store, his attention was focused on me and he did not appear rushed at all. Unfortunately, because of my riding experience and style, I came to the conclusion Tannus was not my cup of tea because they are a little heavier than a conventional setup, plus the rolling resistance (road friction) is higher too, meaning more pedaling effort is also required. read more

I am very appreciative of the technician who worked on my bike (I believe his name is Chad at Westside). However, when I dropped off my bike for a tune up I had my saddle pack attached with multiple tubes, CO2 carts, my clamps, and wrench tool. When I picked up my bike, the pack was gone and I do not have much confidence in the lost and found based on my experience. I thought they would replace the items that were lost while my bike was in their possession. Additionally, I was never asked if I had an account (I heard other associates asking other customers if they did), was never offered to join the rewards program even though I spent over $400 on my repairs (which would've been some nice pointage). Net - great techs, customer service was disappointing based on the feedback I got from others. read more

After shopping here a few times I think it's time to leave my review. When I first moved to west seattle I was stoked to have a shop that was so close to me. I literally ride past it everyday on my work commute. I may have stopped in at least 6 times for random things bike lights, tubes, cleaners, snacks, and onetime even ordered tires. I kept going in because I wanted my experience to change. However it did not. The one and only time I was offered any help out side of someone pointing to the area behind the counter I'm sure it was to make sure I wasn't stealing anything because the associate didn't even speak me. They just scoped the area I was in and kept it moving. The experience that led me to this was review was the time I went in to purchase cleaner. There was a gentleman who complimented my bike. We talked for a second then he continued to help the gentleman who was there purchasing a bike. There was another individual behind the counter who asked me if I was with the guy buying the bike. After I said no I walked forward to put my things on the counter thinking he would ring me up really quick, but he walked out from behind the counter to go make small talk with the gentleman purchasing the bike. There were two employees filling one online order. I guess it's super hard to locate a wheel set in the store I'm not sure, but I continued to stand in front of the register waiting to be checked out. When my patience finally began to run low after standing there being ignored. I was turning around to put the things back the young lady working finally ask me if I needed help checking out. I'm not sure if I need to be on an expensive road bike with a kit on to get noticed, or to spend large amounts of money to get someone to talk to me, but I will never support this location with my money ever again. To the two gentlemen who were stoked to see a fixed gear in your store. Thank you for taking the time to provide me with a level of customer service I expect when walking into an establishment like this. I had an absolutely AMAZING experience here, and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND my family and friends to Westside Bicycle. My husband and I brought our very inexpensive bikes here to be serviced so we could just have some fun and ride around town now that the weather is getting nice.. When we got there the store was closed, however, the owner brought us in and took care of us anyway! So nice and unexpected! We had great conversation while waiting for my bike to be repaired, we didn't feel judged for the low quality of our bikes- or pressured into replacing them with new bikes from the shop. Really exceptional service with unique expertise. I bought a new bike elsewhere with all the specs I wanted and was interested if the normally noisy hub could be made quieter, regardless of the price. I was told no at the other shop. No problem. Stopped by another well established shop a few weeks later, same answer. Did a little more research on the web and stopped by Westside, near where I live. They said it could be easily done, ordered the correct hub, and rebuilt the wheel (both quickly and for a minimal charge beyond the hub). My ideal bike. They know what they are doing. read more

Yesterday, I got a flat tire right between Fauntleroy/California Avenue. I had to walk from California Ave to Admiral Way and the only bike shop in that area was closed. So, my next stop was going to be, again walking, to Westside Bike shop which I knew well. Got there just as they were closing. Tried to call a taxi but they did not have the van to haul me and my bike, Tried Uber but they only had small cars available. My husband was out of town, so I had no choice but to continue walking with the goal of reaching home on QueenAnn. Just as I was ready to cross the low bridge heading toward Seattle, this wonderful cheerful guy says "oh, you got a flat, I can help you". Turns out he is a mechanic at Westside Bicycle and I believe he said his name was Erin. He was quick and did a great job, which allowed me to ride home to QueenAnn rather than walking. Best service ever. Due to COVID I hadn't ridden my bike as often as I used to. I took my bike there to see if needed any tlc and was expecting to pay $100 for a tune up. Yo my surprise they filled my tires with air and taught me what to do with my bike. Cost me a whopping $7 to get lube for my gears. They were warm and friendly! Cannot recommend them more. Well, although I might have caught them on an off day, I had a somewhat different experience just yesterday. Last week I called to see if I had to set up an appointment to get a shop-only update to my bike's firmware and to talk about buying a new, analog only bike, as the e-bike is getting cumbersome as I am getting stronger- 2600 miles now. I was told to drop in anytime, and it would be no more than plugging in the bike to a computer to update. So yesterday I did stop in on my way home to do just that. I knew this was likely a low priority for them, so I waited a bit as they attended to other customers. The young man I spoke to behind the counter seemed a bit flustered when I said what I wanted to have this update done. Checked his computer and said he might be able to squeeze me in on Friday... After explaining my call to check on this, Chris stepped in to assist and was quite friendly. I asked about some of the road/gravel bikes I was interested in and didn't get any response for some reason. After the update, I was asked if I bought the bike from them, and I emphatically replied " I wish I had!", and truly do wish they had inventory in August. For the 15 minutes my bike was hooked up to the computer, I was actually charged $40 for this. Software update from Specialized that I could not do myself, and because I couldn't have even bought this from them, I get charged the tourist rate. I posted a question on the Turbo Vado users group about how much others had been charged for this no-parts no-tools update. Most replied that this is free, of course, and they didn't get charged anything. I get it- I didn't buy THIS bike from you, but if you want to sell a bike to someone that spent $4k on an ebike and now wants to get another, from YOU, I would think not charging for a simple firmware patch would be a simple call. What do I know, I am just a stupid ebike rider, yeah? What happened to the kind service that I had gotten in previous visits? Time to find another local bikeshop? Updating rating. read more

This place is amazing and the owner truly cares about his business. I had him come out to my home to make adjustments on my Peloton bike because I was starting to get some consistent knee pain. Once he came out and made the very concise adjustments to my bike and gave me some amazing inserts for my shoes I no longer have ANY pain AT ALL. Since then I've referred several friends and they all were very happy with the attention to detail and wonderful customer service. Just curious why your company is functioning like there is not a pandemic or encouraging social distancing? I run by your shop every day and almost always, it's packed inside and outside creating major congestion on the sidewalk. Yay for having business and encouraging activity, but come on. I'm tired of having to run into the busy street, being cut off by the bikers, as well as being surrounded outside the shop.
