Twas the Saturday before Christmas - rough time to shout Post offices closed...I needed an out. ...jk not doing that.... I did need a way to get packages out quickly on a late Saturday afternoon after 3pm. Not only were they friendly on the phone and gave the exact right support needed when I came in, they shared more details on the post system when it came up (shipping to military base overseas a little complex) and gave moral encouragement when we accepted that my delivery would not happen in time. Don was super and the place feels like family. Friendliest USPS service in my life. #boom read more

This is a nice place to have out in the neighborhood. I'm not much of a package mailer, but they definitely saved my bacon by having a notary public there on hand when I needed one, like quick. Well, this mail center is more of a 3.5 stars kind of place for me! I do enjoy the one stop cute cards/coffee/mail the package convenience the staff tends to be hit or miss when it comes to friendly dispositions, unfortunately. PROS: -give you shipping options -family owned and local business -adorable, local made cards -coffee made to order -cookies and scones available CONS: -friendliness is dependent on who is working -parking is limited (corner of residential area) I absolutely love shopping local, even when it comes to purchasing stamps and sending packages. This is one of my favorite places to grab a cup of coffee, especially since it's in walking distance to my house. They don't mind if my pug comes in while I wait for coffee, and they usually have a biscuit for her to snack on. I would never take a package anywhere but here for delivery, either. They have friendly neighborhood service, and lots of little gifts, too, if you're looking for West Seattle swag or a funky greeting card. I've never needed a mailbox, but if I did, this would be my spot. They have wi-fi if you need to get some quick work (or non-work) done. I've never had a bad experience here. read more

This is my second review of Alki Mail. This small business is by far the best managed small business I have encountered in the past five years. After posting a negative review previously (about five years ago) the owner took the time (in 2012) to have an authentic conversation about my dissatisfaction. I have used Alki Mail for 15 years and am in full support of the new owner and ownership transition, however staff seem very disinterested in customer service (indeed resentful that people come in and pay to have sundry office needs met) and many of the machines are down or broken or are running slowly, with weird pop-ups or "update requests" when you're paying by the minute to do your own printing (which is hard to do because one of their printers is perpetually broken), etc. Under prior ownership, when equipment was more maintained, the staff could be a bit attitude-y if you had questions about their machines because the machines actually worked (ie, staff could assume you don't know how to operate the system/program you have opened and, to be fair, they're not there to teach people). However, now that their machines are harder to use/slow/weird/broken, they're still flipping the same attitude at customers. On Sunday, 10 minutes into trying to open and print a Word doc (on the alternative printer since the usual one was down), the staffer told me to start over on another of their computers (here's an idea: if a computer doesn't work, put a sign on it). I had sent the doc to the printer a few times at this point, and had pointed out to him (in what I can only describe as a normal but I'm-hoping-to-get-done-soon tone) that it didn't seem to be working. He came over to me and said I was giving him a tone he didn't like when he is just trying to help me (?????) and I became very uncomfortable. (Am I now going to get yelled at because Alki Mail's equipment doesn't work?) He had also spent most of my time while I tried to print telling another customer how he hadn't had a day off in a long time, poor him, etc., which I thought was sort of good-natured ribbing but maybe he was truly fried from being there and a Xanax away from losing it. Anyway, I told him I was going to leave and I'd pay for my computer time and go figure out my printing somewhere else. He said he wouldn't charge for the computer time, so I thanked him and headed to the door. He said, super sarcastically, "Have a nice rest of your day!" So I said, "Look, I don't know what your deal is but I'm sorry you don't have today off and are taking it out on customers." He screamed at me, "What are you, a 12 year old?" Then he went to the side exit on 47th Ave. SW and glared at me while I started my car, which was parked there, not leaving the door and continuing to yell at me (I don't know what, I was frightened he was going to come at my car) until I drove off. I felt very shaken by this employee's temper and by having to ask him for help on the f'd up machines -- not only did I not manage to print a word doc but I got yelled at for not having the time to try his solution (switch machines, log into everything again, download again, and try printing). I feel unsafe going in there alone again if this person (younger guy with goatee and olive skin) is working without any colleagues. God forbid a person have a question he cannot answer! I considered telling the new owner about all this, but don't know how to reach her directly. Long/short, Alki Mail staffers should not a) be yelling at customers, ever, or b) glowering at them as they get in their cars over c) equipment that doesn't work. I don't want to walk on eggshells every time I walk into this place. read more

I usually come here to drop off UPS or FedEx packages and everyone is very friendly. This morning I needed 2 stamps and was told 2 stamps would be $1.18! I was thrown off because I only brought a buck in with me, there must be a surcharge here. I will continue to purchase my stamps from the USPS to get the correct rate and not be overcharged for a stupid stamp! read more

I've kept a mailbox subscription here for years, and Alki Mail has consistently provided very friendly, convenient service. There have been times where their printing/internet cafe services have come in very handy, and they go above and beyond to help their customers. This Christmas, for example, I ran out of wrapping paper & ran to Alki Mail last-minute hoping they somehow had packaging for awkwardly shaped presents. It was a busy pre-holiday afternoon and despite the fact that they're not a gift-wrapping business, Don took the care to help me figure out an idea to package the presents appealingly without wrapping paper as well as searched through his back storeroom to give me a bunch of kid-friendly, biodegradable packaging to help me wrap the gifts I had still had left. The Dispatch also sells assorted local & Alki Beach-related clothing and knick-knacks (I bought my little niece a pink Alki onesie & hat for her birthday that has since become her mom's favorite reminder of Seattle). Also, it's nice to grab a coffee & pastry on the fly while handling your shipping errands. Highly recommend this local business :) read more

It's called Alki Mail and Dispatch. One would think that dispatching mail would be the one thing such a business could do effectively. It's kind of fundamental to their supposed purpose -- and yet... Drop off package on a friday afternoon, around 2pm. It needs to be overnighted to Portland, very important, Saturday delivery. $66.00 and 24 hours later, where is the package? UPS doesn't know, because Alki Mail and Dispatch lost it sometime between when I dropped it off and when UPS came to get it! How does this even happen? Where did it go? No one seems to know. If you can't keep track of customer shipments while they are still inside your shop, it's probably time to really rethink what you're doing with your life's work. Update since Owner Response: ______________________________ I see that the owner has responded to my review. I'm more than willing to amend my ratings based on subsequent information / interactions, etc. However, in this case, I will decline. It is not appropriate to accuse the customer of providing false information in their review. The information I provided in my review accurately reflected my experience of the situation. I had my colleague in Seattle send me a package. I was unable to ascertain what happened to the package both through phone calls to UPS and to Alki Mail & Dispatch. UPS assured me that they had never received the package. If the owner had bothered to inform me that there was relevant followup to this experience, I might have amended the review. However, since he instead decided to accuse me lying, I'll just let both the review and his response stand as a testament to the type of customer service one can expect at this establishment. read more

Was treated as if I had absolutely no idea what I was talking about when it was the absolute other way around. I won't be returning to Alki dispatch for any reason.... please step up your customer service. Went there for a notarization and the lady working said that she couldn't do it because I needed to sign in front of her, although the declaration clearly stated that it only needed to be 'acknowledged' that I had signed it. Tried to reiterate the instructions to her so that I could get it notarized but she still would not notarize it and directed me to reprint everything so that I could resign it in front of her. Left discouraged, went to another notary up the street, and had it notarized promptly, without any issue. read more

Do not ever take your FedEx package to them unless you have a account. I was just charged $10+ more per package than what FedEx quoted me online. When I asked if they had a surcharge, they lied to my face. Ended up getting charged $40 more on shipping 3 packages than if I'd done it thru an official fedex location or USPS or UPS. Just spoke to FedEx customer service, and they said that this should not have happened. Went through each package again with the official weight and dimensions, and each package was charged 33% more than what it should have been. Should have taken it to a Kinko's/FedEx where I know they do not fudge with the numbers. read more

Needed to drop off a UPS package early morning before a flight. Unlike Fedex, there are not a lot of early morning places, this one came up as 6 am both on Yelp and their website. Go there at 6:50 (almost an hour past open) and the place is closed, only sign on the door is their hours, which of course show 6 am. Two other people even showed up in the few minutes I was there. Pro Tip: if you advertise hours that early, actually be open. read more

The folks at Alki Mail & Dispatch are helpful, polite, and certainly multi-task when needbe. They are humorous, and know their stuff. They are the tops in how they deal with their customers. If they were ever to have a problem with a customer and they turned them away it would be for a very good reason. I'm in there every day and see all of the customers at different times. They handle all contacts with respect and ease rarely getting "rattled." And, they have good coffee and love my pups. What more could one ask for? read more

Suckiest customer service I've ever experienced. Not only do they overcharge for shipping, but the staff here is so incompetent that you've a 50/50 chance of them actually getting your packages sent out on time. I went here over christmas to ship something to canada. Walked in with wrapped gifts and told the customer service people I needed the gifts to ship to canada. Spent 10 minutes filling out all sorts of information for them to use to draw up rates, then waited another 5 minutes for the dead-in the eyes dude behind the counter to look up the shipping costs. This was 10 days before christmas and delivering to BC. He quoted me $200 to ship 3 boxes and said he could get them there by the 3rd. The 3rd! They were wrapped in christmas wrapping paper with little santa clauses on them, dead-in-the-eyes dude couldn't be bothered to take this into account and ask if I needed them sooner before doing his initial quote research. he took another 5 minutes to research a new quote based on the reasonable delivery time of 10 days for christmas delivery. Frustrated and having invested so much time in getting these prepared there I paid for the service and considered it a done deal. Two whole effing days later I get the packages returned to me at my home, only to find out they messed up the shipping cost, charged me more for a different box and then shorted the actual postage cost but shipped them anyway. & since the postage wasnt paid in full (short $10) USPS returned to sender. Furious, and SOL for getting them to Canada in time, I took the returned packages back to Alki Mail & Dispatch only to find dead-in-the-eyes dude manning the counter. After explaining that he'd ruined a christmas for My sister and her nephew's getting gifts from me, he tried covering saying that he had called, had left me a message on my phone (which didn't happen) about the issue, but offered no apology or sympathy for the circumstances (as that would constitute human emotions). I got a refund and vowed never to use their shitty service ever again. Take my advice, if it's important, and you need to ship it out with certainty - go elsewhere. read more

It would be helpful to customers if you would put signage near the computers stating when one of the printers is not working. When I printed something with the color printer and realized after it printed that it was not working I showed it to one of the employees. I was surprised to hear that she was already aware it was on the fritz. When I went to pay for my computer time I was again surprised that she wanted to charge me for the color print. Furthermore, I would not have even used the computer if I had been made aware that the printer I wanted to use was broken. I was just trying to be nice by paying for my wasted computer time and definitely could have gone without the slight attitude I was given for suggesting I not be charged for something I cannot use. Overall my experiences in this establishment have been hit or miss. Some staff are very friendly and helpful and some are not. Computers/printers/copies are not reliable and I believe it is good business to not charge for unusable work- and common sense. read more

Oh my gosh, I hate this place. Two packages have mysteriously disappeared and the staff was less than helpful. I have also been overcharged more than their standard upcharge. Recently, I took a package to the post office, discovered I'd forgotten my wallet and went home to get it. On the way back, I saw a friend at Alki Mail and decided to mail it there-despite my prior misfortune which I had not totally figured out until this incident. The price was twice what the post office wanted. It was the standard policy when I was a customer there to have a slight upcahrge but double was a bit much. When I was a customer there, mail for others was frequently in my box so I assumed my mail was also elsewhere. The coffee was really overpriced and I noticed they had not lowered their prices. My boxes disappeared, were broken into and the staff was less than helpful. I will not go there again! read more

I love this place! SO much better than waiting in line with a zillion cranky people at the post office, especially around the holidays. The staff is super friendly, they offer a huge array of shipping options (and prices!) and their hot chocolate is amazing. Bonus points for their super cute shop pup. This is a great one stop place for mailing, printing, and snacks. It's not known for printing, but they have computers and printers/copiers for simple DIY printing needs. I've always had great customer service and no trouble parking, but I go in the middle of the day when it's probably less busy. Their printing and copying prices are very reasonable too. We've had a box here for years and have experienced really great service. Not only does it give us peace of mind having our mail and packages sent to a PO box for our business and personal life, but we like the ease of it. The people who work here are always smiling and knowledgeable. The prices are higher than going to the Post Office, however. I agree with other reviewers that parking isn't ideal, but this could be said of the California Ave Post Office as well.
