They lost a $3,500 bracelet. I just got off of the phone with the owner of Eastlake Mail. They called me about a month ago and left me a voicemail saying my package had been returned to them. I was traveling and called a week later. The woman on the phone said she couldn't find it, but would call me back when she did. There was a $3,500 bracelet inside. I had not heard back and called again a week later. Again, they couldn't find the package, and would call me back when they did. I did not hear back and called again just now. The owner immediately got aggressive with me and said he didn't have the package and never had the package. I told him his employee called me and left me a voicemail saying that she had the package there. He then proceeded to tell me that he didn't know she called, it wasn't his fault that she called, and that they didn't have the package. He said that whatever they received was not substantive and would have been thrown out. I explained again that there was a $3,500 bracelet inside. He said there was no bracelet inside, but he didn't have the package. I asked why they open packages which are returned, and he said they don't. I asked how he knew the bracelet was not inside, and he again said because there was nothing substantive inside. He then said that they open packages to find identifying information... even though they had the label. Funny part is, I purchased the shipping through them. According to the owner, after a package sits there "forever" (less than a week), they throw it away. They also do and do not open packages which are returned to them. They also have rogue employees who leave voicemails about packages they have in their hand, which are lies? And they do it without the owners approval? woof. Ok....... He said I could sue him... not sure why. Was super aggressive which made me get angry. Offered no help, no accountability, and contradicted himself the entire time. Apparently I'm out $3,500? Woof. I can't say enough good things about this place. They can knowledgeably tell you the options for packages. They competently pack them and provide exceptional customer service. While I've long been a customer, I was particularly impressed by a recent experience during the busy lead up to Christmas. They were SWAMPED. The person advised me on the options and took the necessary info. Instead of fully processing everything (as that would have delayed an already long line), he competently put things to the side. Shortly after they closed, I received an email with all the tracking info and verification everything had been sent. Love this place! read more

But recently they've hired a dude (or he bought the biz) and now every time I go in there he finds a way to make me feel unwelcome. This was my companies mailbox for 20 years! I came to pick up mail here monthly, over the past 5 years. Just a little shop with very friendly staff. Was always nice to receive a smile when you stopped in. Love that they sell handmade greetings cards and all the local event posters on the wall as well. Nice to take a gander while you wait. Unfortunately, we recently changed locations but I will always keep Lake Union Mail on my radar. Definitely a great local spot for your shipping needs. read more

The mail is delivered to the box the same day they get it, they reach out when perishable packages come in, and know their customers by face (that's a lot of customers to know, and for sure give them kudos for being able to do this)! This is my first Yelp review as in general I hate "Yelpers" but I felt the need to write this. I knew if I didn't write this right away I'd probably never write it so here it goes (also posted on Google reviews). I went to Lake Union Mail to purchase 2 business size envelopes with stamps(total of 4 stamps). One was going to be self addressed to me so that the Pacific NorthWest Writing Association(PNWA) could send back my critiques of their yearly writing contest I entered. I explained to her what I needed and she said that she needed to know how much the envelope was going to weigh so she could charge me appropriately. Per the guidelines of PNWA, I told her I just needed to attach two stamps to an envelope so that my 8 x 11 critiqued printed pages could be sent back to me. She then asked me how much that was going to weigh. I told her I didn't know, but basically around 28 pages (my story was 14 pages and I get back two critiques back from established writers on how to improve my story/writing).I could tell she was getting annoyed so I suggested that we go 'overboard' with postage just to make sure it wasn't an issue. I was about to even suggest that we put literally 28 pages in an envelope, weigh it, and then charge me on that rate until her attitude changed. She became very standoffish and rude and basically gave me the "f$#% it" attitude and made me feel like a nuisance to their business. I then told her I needed two more stamps for the outside envelope and she annoyingly gave me those as well. After the charge of $3 bucks or so , she went to another customer as I stood there because I wanted to make sure I could leave it there so she could mail it. She then looked at me and said, "Oh, did you want me to mail it too?" "Yes, please" I said as she snatched it off the counter and threw it into the out-mail bin. I was having a rather good day up to that point: I had just won my rowing race at the Husky Open early that morning, and secured a 2nd date with a female interest. It's strange how sometimes random interactions can really crap on your day. So, to late 30's early 40ish brunette woman who was attending to me this afternoon, thank you for shi%#)% on my day and making me feel awful. I already feel like a second class citizen living in Seattle AND living in Eastlake; thank you for reminding me of why I don't like this city. I won't be bothering you again. read more

The staff cheerfully and efficiently packed my items, determined that UPS would be the least expensive service for me (and for way less $ than I feared) and had me back out the door in a few minutes. This is a really lovely local business. Living in Eastlake, I usually come here to drop off prepaid return packages. They accept and ship via all shipping carriers--USPS, UPS, Fedex, and DHL--so it can be extremely convenient. In my experience, the employees have always been unfailingly pleasant and friendly. On one occasion, about two years ago, an employee (whom I'd seen a few times before) even helped me carry a box to my car. The box wasn't overly large and not even particularly heavy; I certainly could have managed it alone. But it was such a wonderfully kind and friendly gesture, that I always recall it whenever I think of this place. The genuine air of friendliness is why I make a point of giving them business whenever I can (stamps, postcards, greeting cards, notary services), or recommending them to others for any shipping/postal needs. One can also have personal packages shipped here, using Lake Union Mail's address and under one's personal name, a service I've utilized a few times. Last time I checked, they charged just $1 USD for each package that you have shipped here. They will call you to notify you when you have something to pick up. There's usually some street parking, and there is also a small car park next to the building. It can get busy at certain hours, but I find that most people are in and out quickly enough, so the chances of securing parking for a quick pop-in have always been fairly good, in my personal experience. And--I don't know if this is technically related to Lake Union Mail or not--but there is a little "mailbox" a few steps down from Lake Union Mail's front door. It contains a little book library, and anyone can borrow a book from it. I've made a point of donating any unneeded/unwanted, but read-worthy and in-good-condition books to this mailbox. This mailbox is one of my favorite things about Eastlake, and it happens to be right next to Lake Union Mail. I sincerely hope this place will stay around for many years to come. read more

He could have just let my box be. I had to return shoes to 6pm.com and the box they had sent the shoes in was pretty big. I had to pay for return shipping. Instead of having me pay for the size box that was sent, he opened it back up (it was already sealed shut), rearranged everything, and cut the box down. It saved me almost $15 on shipping! Thank you, Lake Union Mail, for helping mail-challenged me out! Not even thinking much about it, I grabbed two priority express boxes from the downtown post office to put my holiday crap that I was sending to Hawaii inside. My thinking was like, "Oh, well, a box is a box and I probably will end up spending over $10 a box anyway!" I walked these boxes over to Lake Union Mail to deliver and the fellow told me it would've been way more expensive to ship it via priority express (as in $40 a box!) than just regular priority. He helped me transfer the contents of my priority express boxes into regular priority boxes. He even removed the address labels I had made and transferred them to the regular priority boxes as well. So instead of spending $80 to ship these two boxes via priority express mail, it was $29.50 by regular priority mail! If I had gone to a USPS branch, they seriously would've made a pretty penny off of me. This makes me definitely grateful for the friendly and helpful service at Lake Union Mail! It's so nice to not have to dread dealing with postal things! Every time I go to the post office, there are long waits, grouchy employees, and usually some type of issue preventing me from doing what I want to do. Not at Lake Union Mail! The employees are always cheerful and happy to help. They're always ready to give you all your options, comparing price and security for you. They are even ready to suggest you go elsewhere when they don't have the best product for you (like suggesting usps.com for pretty wedding postage stamps!). You can pretty much go anywhere and spend the same amount to send a package, so why not patronize a place that's locally owned by super nice and competent people?? I live about two blocks from this business, but I've only had reason to actually come in or call a couple of times. On each occasion, every staff member I have encountered has been exceedingly polite and friendly and helpful. I think having this awesome service, where they accept and send out mail and packages for several different services (USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc.) is super convenient and such a great advantage for our neighborhood where there really isn't any other post office or mailing service nearby. It seriously brings me joy stopping by this place. I used to hate mailing things out, but now I don't mind at all! If Seattle had a kind of virtual Mt. Rushmore of business types as represented by the presidents, I'm thinking that Lake Union Mail would be John Adams AND John Quincy Adams. Most overlook the Adams Family as both presidents and as a wacky, inane, situation comedy starring John Astin. But no one could overlook Lake Union Mail because if you did, you would miss out on what I consider to be probably the best place to get your mail EVER. I'm talking the Pantheon of Mail Getting Places. The one that the others were fashioned in the likeness of. But don't ever quite match up to. Hyperbole? Shmyperbole! I know these things to be true because I have been on the mean mail-place streets and they are harsh. But then came LUM. And thus, I was elevated to what mail and the concept of mail, and myself as a male, could and should be. Oh maybe that was kind of overstating it but i'm on a roll so. Anyway, i was moving to Eastlake and got a mail place that seemed ok... But when push came to shove, and i needed help with getting packages sent, i walked into Lake Union Mail and it opened my eyes. Because, as it turned out, Lake Union Mail and the staff, run by Jules and his able cohort, the fabulous Miss K., neither of whom knew me from shine-ola, but were able to without a word of ill-will or complaint, lighten my wagon of oversized, irregular, and even soggy boxes -- all while sparring good-naturedly about the weather, the commonly held misconceptions held by modern astrophysicists, and the historical significance sodbuster women had during the land rush of the mid 19th century. Perhaps it would be too much to wish for all mail places to be this good--and i would be some nut-tard who fell off the haywagon on my way to a fantasy world habitated by brightly dressed midgets, but I would brave lions and tigers and bears, or gangs of houseboat-browsing tourists convinced Tom Hanks will just pop in to pick up his Eddie Bauer catalog, to be enveloped in the Holy Light of Mail Heaven that is Lake Union Mail. read more
