I've had nothing but good experiences here, but have seen some folks wait in line beyond their tolerance threshold and walk out angry with a complete loss of emotional control. This is normally during times when there's only one staff member in the center probably due to COVID or similar. It's a rough situation for small businesses like this. read more

While very friendly, the prices are so overpriced its crazy. I spent $85 to mail a box here. When I had to send a second box to the same address the following week, I chose to pay and print the UPS label at home, then drop it off. It was only $35 ($55 cheaper then Pony Express - a 157% markup). There really is no excuse for charging so much. read more

I cancelled my account, This is our first Christmas in Washington state and Pony Express not only lost/stole letters with sensitive financial and medical information,  but also all our Christmas cards from friends and family,  and scrapbooks I created as gifts for grandchildren and my husband.  As if that weren't enough, they verbally insulted me and said it was somehow my fault. I first came here when I moved to Redmond in 2008 to get a mailbox while I was looking for an apartment. The guy who served me, Ray, was super friendly, helpful, and I later found out he is the owner and been in the mailbox/shipping business for 20 odd years. Needless to say, 6 years later I'm still a very satisfied customer and always find them to be prompt, fair, reliable and *always* treat their customers with respect. I've dealt with Ray, his wife and a guy called Tim and they are all consistently fantastic. Over the years I've referred about ten people here and they've also been happy with the level of service they received. By far I think they are the best value around for mailboxes and offer 24x7 access at no extra charge, they'll also box up and forward your mail to you while out of town: you can schedule this or ask them to do it with a phone call. This is one of a very few places anywhere that I consider a: Highly recommended locally owned and run business. read more

The owners and staff are wonderful people; friendly, quick and knowledgable! They offer many services from mailing packages, purchasing boxes and having them wrap and ship it, large selection of birthday, thank you cards, etc.. to notary. I like that they show you mailing options and costs for example fed ex vs. usps. Stopped by on a Saturday to mail my xmas box with no wait. WOW!! Was sad to hear they had to move however the good news, it's only 3 blocks from their currect location. Stop wasting your time at the post office - come here to Pony Express! read more

Went in to get a quote from Ray on shipping some sensitive camera gear across the country (camera gear I have shipped previously with no issues). From the moment I began to place items on the desk Ray seemed less than enthusiastic about helping me. Firstly he didn't grasp that I wouldn't be shipping the gear in a large Pelican case I had brought it all to the store in, even after being told by myself and my wife three times that it wouldn't be going. He then proceeded to tell us that was a bad idea, even after being informed that was simply not an option as the person we had sold and were shipping the gear to did not want to pay for the expensive case. Instead of listening to what we needed to say, or maybe even offering up some suggestions on how we could pack and ship the gear, he just kept interjecting commentary about what a bad idea idea it was to not ship it in the Pelican case. We then offered up that we could remove the foam from the Pelican case and use it to ship the smaller items all in one box. He continued to take an extremely negative view of the situation and it was obvious his only concern was for his potential liability and pointed out that he was the owner so it wasn't going to ship without his ok, as if we had any interest in shipping our expensive camera gear in a way that was less than safe. It really was a remarkable how negative he was during the entire experience. At that point I decided I'd had enough of my intelligence being insulted and being condescended to and decided to pack my stuff up and go in search of someone not at all like Ray. While beginning to pack up I pointed out my displeasure at him acting like he didn't want to ship any gear. He took the opportunity to admit that he, in fact, did not want to ship it. We travel full time and thus have to use shipping companies all over the country very often. We go to small shipping businesses like this in order to get expertise, creativity, and good customer service. Otherwise, we might as well go to the USPS if we want crappy service with a side of negativity smothered in condescension. We've been here once before when we needed to mail some postcards and get a few envelopes (another experience that wasn't great but that passable because it required almost no thinking). If all you need is to buy are stamps or drop off a package, Ray is your man. If you're expecting to ship something particularly expensive or need some assistance with packing, Ray lacks the requisite people skills to make that experience a pleasant one. He will, in fact, over complicate the situation by making assumptions and jumping to all sorts of conclusions before allowing you to even fully explain your request. It seems he is to shipping what finger painting is to art. read more

Updated: I just learned that this Pony Express owner didn't include the customs list in my 4-pound FedEx package to India, so India's Customs won't release the pkg. She also typed in the wrong address and misspelled the receiver's name and my name. This Pony Express owner refused to change the spelling, insisting on just hand-writing the correct information on the packing slip. When I had to forcefully explain that the receiver cannot pick up her pkg without her correct address and name typed on the shipping form, she reluctantly typed in the correct information......but didn't delete the original, so India has TWO tracking #s and believes there are TWO pkgs and, therefore, TWICE the declared value! I was only the one of two customers in her store when I entered mid-afternoon. After one and a quarter hours, I was finally finished.......after strapping my pkg closed myself when she impatiently refused to do so because there were other customers there by then. Colossal, expensive mistakes all around. If they aren't straightened out, India will charge $66 to the receiver because it will take more than a month to sort this out......if ever. If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm now writing the Better Business Bureau, the FTC, and Pony Express CEO, Douglas Stone at 46 Cullens Run, Pittsford, NY. read more

I've been using Pony Express for more than 10 years now, and the service has been outstanding every time I've needed to send a package, pick up a package (they'll sign for them - very convenient!), get help with anything related to my mail. These guys are right by Microsoft Redmond campus. Which is where I do a lot of my work, and it's by my kids' dance school Premiere Dance Center, and by my Rite Aid and Safeway. So, I can stop by this location and ship stuff, and I have a private mail box there for my LLC. I have 24 hour access. The staff are genuine, competent and surprisingly funny for a bunch of people bravely standing on cement floor all day! read more

I've used this location for over 12 years and never had less than stellar service. I've shipped internationally, shipped nationally, gotten postage for envelopes and used the notary services. I generally avoid the lunch hour, since any place like this gets busier then, so I've never had a problem with a long line and have never waited more than about 5 minutes. Generally seems to be at least 2 employees working in the afternoon when I go in. read more

I've been a long time customer here. They have all my info in the computer so when I mail packages I don't have to remember all the addresses. They remember my name and ask after my kids. Two years ago they packaged and shipped 6 mason jars of fresh homemade pickled herring and it got there all intact in good time. The next year we used Amazon to mail it as my husband worked there so it was cheaper. Every bottle arrived broken, all the herring was wrecked. This year I took the herring back to Pony Express, they packaged and shipped it, it arrived all bottles in perfect shape and in record time. They are friendly, and helpful. read more

We had to ship to CA a large steel wire wheel rim that included a fragile aluminum backing plate - it weighed just over 40 lbs. Ray at Pony Express modified a standard box and did an outstanding job of protecting the gear. I was told by the business that serviced the wheel that it was the best packing for that type of shipment that they had ever seen, and they have been in business for over 30 years! read more

I have been a customer of this business, in one form or another, for over 15 years now. When I leased a mailbox, Ray and/or one of his employees would see me coming and pull my mail for me. In recent years, when I have had (often urgent) needs for notary service and express mail service, he has done his best to assure my needs are met under time pressure. Ray is very personable. Been a customer for over 20 years. They have always taken my packages that need to be returned. Today, I had a large package to return. There were 3 customers in the store. When it was my turn I was told that there was no room for the package and that they only take returns as an "accommodation". News to me! The person at the counter decided to take the package. I carried it into the back room and there were 3 packages waiting to go out. "No room"? Really? I am sorry to say Pony Express in Overlake has lost a good customer. read more

I don't know why anyone would use Pony Express even if it is convince it is still worth the extra time to go to a UPS or A USPS Don't use Pony Express especially this one. This is the email i sent in on Feb the 6th. I called in on the afternoon of Fed. 6th because i was directed to your shop when i was going through DHL locations around Kirkland and Redmond. I called to ask about a shipping issue, i hadn't received my package that was supposed to be delivered on Feb. 5th. the first women i spoke with seemed irritated as soon as asked about the DHL affiliation. I then tried to ask about my package she seemed clue less as to how to help me. She took my tracking number told me it didn't exist I told her that on Amazon which i had purchased the item from was able to track but only told me it was at a DHL in Redmond. and in a search yours is the first to pop up. She then said i should try and call DHL express. i Called DHL Express gave them the tracking number they said it was at a DHL in Redmond WA. So i thought i would call back see if my new info would matter I think the same women answered as soon as i identified again to her and gave her the info from DHL Express she started to get upset telling me that they don't have it and that it isn't there responsibility, then i proceeded to ask if she could give a number to someone who could help me or if she would call DHL Express and confirm the info i gave her at that moment i could hear the anger in her voice she tells me no she wont do that and I said so your just leaving hanging then and she Actually hung up on me. So i Called back got a different person and i started to say i was just speaking to someone there a moment a go and he said no you didn't i was listening to you yell at her, i continued by asking him the same thing i ask the lady i just spoke to he also respond with some hostility and the following" I do not do customer service for DHL I can't help you" i Asked can you give a number that might help. he again responded with i don't do stuff for DHL. And he also hung up on me. I would never use your services because of this treatment. I was trying to locate a package that had not arrived on time from DHL, I'm still under the impression that your company is affiliated with DHL. This is the saddest display of customer service. They didn't even try to help me with my problem i wouldn't say the half assed it they didn't even give that much effort. read more
