After work, I discovered that I was locked out of my home. I requested their services to gain access the following morning. I received a text message that they would contact me in the morning with an exact time. No communication in the morning or after I re-texted about their arrival time. I called a different locksmith who arrived 30 minutes later thankfully but by this time it was 1pm. I emailed the following day to inquire about service and still no reply. AI bot shows many times available but since I submitted text request with auto bot no reply, human or otherwise to question I asked Friday. I gave a WS address which AI would no is near the Admiral location actual human locksmith used to work. I wrote the AI bot asking if an actual direct employee of the company works in West Seattle. No reply yet Sunday night to Friday mid-day question. It is written on website their schedule is very busy near Christmas time. Understandable. I have been to this place of business in the past with great service, unfortunately, I fell victim to the bait and switch. I walked in with my lock which did not have a key to it. That key was lost. I brought a key from my front door and asked if it could be rekeyed for this specific key and what would be the price? I was quoted $30 plus 4.99 for each key and it would be done that afternoon. This was on a Tuesday morning. They didn't call. I went back on Wednesday and it still wasn't done and they would call in the afternoon. On Thursday morning my friend said he would go check on it. Before he got there, she called and said it would be $60.00. There was an extra $15 feet to pick the lock so the work could be competed. I told her that is not the quote I received two days prior. My friend paid the fee. If I would have known it was going to cost this much, I would have bought a new lock. BEWARE!!! read more

He admitted it was a very unusual key/issue but custom filed it down to where it worked!! In the past Alki W Seattle Key and Lock has been my choice of locksmiths...however my last experience has changed all that. I ordered two key blanks that were not in stock and was told they should be arriving in a couple of days...It's been over a month and they are not here. One employee stated that any ordered keys are just ordered by type and not by the name of the customer....another employee stated that they do keep the customers info and would call when the keys came in. One employee told me they don't do car key fob programming the other employee stated that yes they do and that they are the one who does the programming. The employee looked at my fob and said no problem and that they would put me on the schedule and call me when to have it done....no calls in over 2 weeks now. So I'll be looking for a new locksmith where the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. read more

On the day our house was listed, after we had moved out of town and left things to the realtor, the lock on the front door broke. It's an antique lock that came with the house and I was worried we would have to replace the entire door since the lock is so old (and I know from a previous experience that these antique locks can have specific parts that make repairs difficult). Top notch! I had my front door lock and deadbolt replaced during a remodel about two years ago and lost all of my keys. Well, my short term roommate did but who is counting. Really appreciate Stan's professionalism and expertise. A deadbolt failed and his first available appointment for a house call was a week out. The woman who took my call tried to walk me through the process of removing the cylinder so I could bring it in and have it repaired that day. I wasn't successful but it wasn't for lack of trying on her part. I made the appointment for the house call. Stan arrived on time and quickly determined that the cylinder needed to be replaced, showing me what had broken. He told me the reason was that the door jam and deadbolt didn't line up perfectly, putting stress on the now-broken part. He didn't have the specific cylinder in stock so ordered it. Before he left for his next appointment, he checked all of my locks to see if they lined up properly. Most of them did not. He corrected them and charged only $22 more for this, even though it took extra time. A few days later they let me know that the replacement cylinder was in and we set up the appointment. Every aspect of his service was perfect. They will be the first place I'll call for key and lock services. It's a relief and GREAT to find a truly reputable locksmith here in West Seattle. read more

Ben was terrific! Honest as they come....helped to explain how I could replace my own deadbolt that was...well, dead! This is to a guy who is challenged when it comes to changing a light bulb!! I did it myself, instead of having him come out, but he was more than willing to do that as well....he told me what his rate was (and at 15 minute billing!!) which I thought was very reasonable. Scheduled them to come change the locks at a new house and install one keyless lock on one of the 3 doors. Showed up with no equipment, after I went into the store the day before and picked out all the hardware. He Had to go back to the store, and then forgot the keys. Eventually sent him home without doing any of the work because I needed to go back to work. Got a call a week later from the store asking if I wanted to reschedule. I had already found someone else to do the work for cheaper. No apology for their mess up. Poor customer service and on the expensive side. Would not recommend. read more

The technician, Eric, came within 20 minutes to my location in West Seattle and was friendly. When he got upstairs, he informed me that he couldn't do the easy picking the lock because he had his equipment stolen out of his car. So he had to do the more invasive $60 additional fix of drilling in the lock. Why I had to pay the additional $60 for this procedure because he got his stuff stolen out of his car, I have no idea. He had to go back repeatedly to his car to get more drills and didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. I wouldn't recommend Alki W Seattle Key & Lock to a friend. read more

A neighbor who was out of the state and in the process of putting her house on the market called in a panic on a Friday afternoon because her old front door lockset broke when the realtor tried to open it the day before her first open house. I called up and got Ben, he was out of the shop but heard her story and agreed to meet me back at the shop an hour later. I took him the lockset and he was able to repin and add new springs which I was able to reinstall from there. From the time I received the panicked call to the time it was fixed and installed was less than two hours and for a very reasonable price. Your mileage may vary in that kind of responsiveness as I was blown away by that turnaround, but I was super impressed with Ben's willingness to help and the effortless work he did to get the lock up and working again. Better than the best customer service ever! The owner performed the impossible on a lock that was unfixable according to the manufacturer. What a day...the front door would not lock. I needed it to be fixed the same day. The manufacturer said that the lock could not be repaired, and the replacement would be over $700 and would take weeks to arrive. A spring had broken inside the mechanism. I removed the whole thing, handles and all and took them to our experts at Alki W Seattle Key & Lock. The owner Stan was there. He pulled out a bag with handles, lock and all. It was for the wrong side, and the lock said "Not Reversible" on it. Stan, undaunted, made it work. You should have seen all the parts and springs in there. Stan personally helped me carry all the handles and old parts to my car a block away! I would drive 50 miles to Stan and his staff before going elsewhere. By the way, call them for advice on what locks [not] to buy. read more
