This place was recommended to me by Pacific Supply off 12th after trying to get a copy made of my '70 Honda scooter key. Which was the only copy I had at the time, and it was slightly bent. So, on its last leg for sure. When I got there, the gentlemen initially helping me at BL search extensively through their catalogs of key models to find it, but to no avail. As I was about to leave the shop a gentlemen by the name of Robel walked in to behind the counter and ask the current clerk what the situation was. After inspecting the key, he had me write down my information and was going to contact me after he got home to look at old motorcycle key blanks he had in his collection, possibly make a copy with. Which was already going above and beyond to help me. I was grateful and wrote my information before I began to shove off. As I was about to hop on my bike to leave, Robel ran out and stopped me, asked to wait a couple min. After a few trips of him coming in and out to inspect the bike's ignition with other key blanks, we found one that would work if he cut AND thinned out by machine. It was amazing to see this man work this level of magic. I am truly grateful for Robel and the staff there to exist in this city and to have that level of expertise made available. To say they went above and beyond to help me out is a understatement. Go there for all your lock and key needs. We made 3 copies of a key for our storage room, using a vending machine at the drugstore. They looked fine, but when we got home they didn't work. Actually one barely worked but the others just wouldn't turn. Today I took them to Broadway Locksmith. There was no wait. He took the original and 3 copies and went to the back. I have been looking around for a locksmith that could cut barrel shaped Ilco padlock keys. I called Broadway after a different locksmith told me to "Call Broadway, they can copy everything", and sure enough, they cut my barrel and Schlage style keys in the blink of an eye. Clearly you get your moneys worth, they were able to make 6 keys of each for a fraction of the cost of others I called. Definitely come here is you are cost conscious (but still expect a quality product). Parking is a bit tough, that's about the only downside, but there is usually ample street parking if you aren't visiting during rush hour. Thanks for the great service! A++++++ read more

I had the worst experience with Broadway Locksmith. Bjorn, the man who came to install door hardware and hinges, didn't have the skills to install the hardware. He told me that I was sent the wrong hardware but I found out later he just didn't install it properly. He stripped the hardware and scratched the finish. He then told me half way through changing the hinges that he had to go and left a couple hinges off the door. I was left with a door I couldn't open and hinges that still needing to be hung. read more

I was heading home from work and accidentally dropped my keys in the car while putting my dog in the car. I didn't realize that in doing so I had bumped the lock button while doing so. I knew as soon as I shut the door that I was in big trouble. I called Broadway Locksmith and they were able to head down immediately. It only took about 10 minutes or so for them to arrive. They entered the garage that I was parked in and had me in my car in about 5 minutes. The locksmith (whose name I can't remember, unfortunately) was fast, friendly and courteous. I started walking up the steps at 5:27 and there was a guy in the entrance getting happy hour started early sipping a whiskey on the rocks. I had a vexing problem with my door key for my ancient van- the big box store copy wouldn't open all the doors, just the drivers, and I'd lost the original. I thought I was up-a-creek. Broadway Locksmith let me drop off the blue beast and they fixed the key problem while I was at work. I was out the door with 3 copies of the ignition and door locks for $62 bucks! These guys are old school and know their stuff. Another Capitol Hill locksmith that will remain unnamed told me that I'd have to replace all the door locks and have them re-keyed. I tried to find another locksmith in my neighborhood the other day, but it seemed like all of them were closed forever. I'm not sure why I even bothered, Capitol Hill is just a few miles north of me and since they're open on Saturdays, I really didn't have an excuse not to. I think I was just being straight-up lazy. These guys can do keys for you at their place, or they can come out to re-key your house. Whatever's clever. You could go to Lowe's to make keys, but their key selection is really limited. Broadway can create keys for those random things like the cheapie vertical cabinet keys at your office (that is, if an IKEA key from some other lockbox doesn't already fit in them.) I'm pretty sure any IKEA key can start your car for you. I found out about these guys from work a long time ago, and I really don't go anywhere else normally, unless it's only one key at the hardware store, and I already need to pick up a chainsaw...and duct tape. For business purposes, they will accept a PO if you meet their criteria, and take all other forms of payment too. When I made a couple of keys the other day, I remembered that I needed to do one more on my key ring. In a flash, the key was done and when I tried to pay cash for it, he said, "Don't worry about it." Just threw in an extra key, just like that. Wow. I want to pay it forward now, so I am looking for other keys around the house just so I can make a copy and use their business more often. There's a small parking lot that can hold two cars max, but considering how fast they are, you could almost leave your car running (but don't do that.) read more

We called them to come out and rekey our home. They did the work flawlessly, however, they nickle and dimed us, including charging us for work that didn't need to be done. Specifically, they charged us a fee to drill larger holds in our doors to install a new deadbolt, when, come to find out, the deadbolt comes with a feature to install in smaller holes. If I could go back in time, we could have saved over a hundred dollars by just going to Home Depot. Update: to Eric @ Broadway Locksmith. You misunderstood my concern, I love local, highly trained professionals. I hate it when I'm charged $30 to drill a bigger hole in my door, when the same feat could have been accomplished by removing the sizing plate in the deadbolt with a single screw. read more

Disclaimer: I didn't actually hire Broadway Locksmith Inc. to do our security because we had already installed a security system when I called them. I simply called to inquire about installing a new deadbolt and door locks and they provided me with enough information to help me on my way. I spoke with the owner and he talked my ear off for 20 minutes, providing me with honest and helpful information to send me along my way. He didn't try to sell me on anything but he provided me with the information that I needed to make my purchasing decision. I didn't use any of their services and I didn't buy any of their products but by educating me on the phone, the owner saved me time and gave me piece of mind when selecting my security solutions. My mailbox lock was always persnickety and recently my boyfriend broke a key in it. Luckily, our friendly postman showed us how to remove the lock. We went to Home Depot at first, but they only had one lock option and when we got home we were disappointed to find that it didn't fit. We should have just gone to Broadway Locksmith first! I showed the broken lock to the gentleman who helped me; he took it to the back and came back in a few seconds with a perfect match. He kindly explained the best way to ensure that it would work well for us, and I was out the door within five minutes. The only disappointment was that the lock cost about $20, $14 more than the Home Depot lock - but hey, it actually works! I was able to install it myself in a few seconds and now we have a lock that's way better than the one we had before. read more

They were the ONLY locksmiths that had a Kawasaki Ninja 250 Key Blank AND the ability to cut it for $20-something bucks (I had my own OEM key blank). I had the seat lock with me to verify right away if the key worked, and it did! You can't beat that when most will charge $40-50. I couldn't even find any that were able/wanted to aside from Bulger's who didn't have access to the cutting tumbler. Location & Parking: It looks like a house converted into a business, which fits the Capital Hill vibe. While it's not very spacious inside, you could fit probably 5 to 6 people in their lobby with some room to spare, it's got some really cool vintage locks to look at and a cheeky sign on what they charge. This is more of a disclaimer than a negative: it's not the greatest location if you travel by car. They have a designated area to park, but it's kind of dangerous to back out since you're in a blind corner and the entrance is also the exit. Needs Improvement: They get minus one star because they gouged the plastic housing on both sides of the key :( I didn't notice until I got home. Overall: The whole process took maybe 5-10minutes. Friendly, Quick, and Helpful. I hope next time they're a little more careful, but will still recommend. read more

Wow, talk about incredible customer service. I had the unfortunate experience of having my purse stolen out of my friend's trunk while we went for a run in the park. Purse, wallet, phone and yep, house/car keys gone. So, we had to make an appointment to come have our locks re-keyed. Had an appointment for 1pm today. 12:59 my doorbell rings. It's always awesome when a business is on time. Sol is the person who came to change our locks, and I have to say, he was awesome. Very friendly and courteous, but also he went above and beyond what we even needed done. When changing the lock on the front door he noticed that it didn't latch well. Which we have known about and have found really annoying, but didn't know how to fix. Sol fixed it for us without even asking! Then when he came upstairs to change the balcony lock, he noticed that the deadbolt was really tight, and it was hard to actually lock the door. Another thing that annoyed us. He went to his truck and got a drill and fixed that for us too. No charge for either. I know it was probably something small for him to do, but for my husband and I, who are clueless when it comes to home improvement, it was super nice of him to do. Overall he was a very quick, friendly guy to work with. If I ever need a service like this again (fingers crossed I don't) I will definitely use this company. read more

Lets just say I got a yelp account just so I could give these guys 5 stars. I set an appointment with Broadway Locksmith on Friday after calling a few others who didn't work over the weekends. As someone that works during the week, I do not have time nor would I like to take time off work JUST to change my lock. These guys are GREAT. They work over the weekends (Satuday) and provide fast service. The locksmith coming to my house called 3-4 hours before to ask if he could change his arrival time versus showing up late and making me wait an hour for him. He was also very friendly and got the job done super fast. He also fixed other things that were wrong with my door and left me the last bit of his lock easing oil stuff. WELLP- one of my stores was broken into and they took off with the cash drawer. FORTUNATELY- there was absolutely no cash (not even change) in the drawer, BUT there was two security keys for a drop bag in there. LOLZ stoopid thieves, LOLZ. HOWEVER, the lolz was partially on me- I had to replace those keys, which are actually hard to come by. After making some calls around the city- I learned that Broadway does actually have these specific keys, so I made my way to the hills, ermm well, up to the hill. A tip if you need a lock rekeyed (for example if you just moved into a new house/condo): most locks are easy to remove yourself and you'll save a lot of money by bringing it in - it's only about $10 per lock, whereas if you ordered service to your door it'd be $60+ (with this or any other locksmith). read more

My friend asked "Do you have the key? Are you sure you have the key?" I responded "Yes", and I did have the key when she asked. Then I realized I had forgot something inside, went back in, left the key on the table, and proceeded to lock the door handle and close the door behind me. Smooth move on my part, so I handled it. I called up Broadway Locksmith on Saturday afternoon, left a message, and got a call back from Bjorn before my phone got a chance to go to sleep. I was quoted how much it would be, and a 15 minute arrival time! In my head I thought "15 minutes, yeah right"... 15 minutes after being hired my phone was ringing... Bjorn was here to rescue us! I would recommend Broadway Locksmith Inc to anyone. I thought/think their price was high for a lockout that took longer to bill than unlock, but when you are a professional who is trained very well, super nice, and is what you do for a living, I honestly can't argue the price. I believe you get what you pay for, and I did. No hidden anything AND Bjorn gave me a heads up to see if my rental insurance would cover it! I would have never thought of that!
