For the hundreds of dollars I spent a on a color, highlight and cut, I expected really good service. I had color all over my forehead and both cheeks. When I asked about the large circle on my forehead, I was handed a color off wipe so I could wipe the color off myself. Although the mark was more of a slight chemical burn. The stylist had completely forgot I booked a haircut until halfway through foils , so she did a quick dry cut after drying my hair before styling. I was there for about 5 hours and I left with a light shade of blonde in the back of my hair and a darker Caramel color in the front . When I got home I noticed I had some bleach bleeds in the back (she did not show me the back once) I showed photo and said I like ashy blonde and they toned me with 8G an 9NW - which means my hair was very gold/Carmel aka a tad orange. I don't mean to drag anyone in this review, but I want to be honest. There is nothing worse than spending a ton of money then go home and fix your hair, luckily in another life I worked as a hairdresser and am able to fix my hair , but not everyone can.

After Tim finished the haircut, a senior stylist and the owner Jo went over to make sure all the details were done correctly. She put a dirty towel that was on the dirty floor on my back and neck. I felt so grossed out. I was so shocked when this happened because I never thought it would be this dirty in a salon in Bellevue area. I thought I picked a good, reputable salon for hair color. She showed many unprofessional behaviors. The hair color result was not what I expected and I have been getting hair color at different salons for 20 years. (I changed hair stylist whenever I moved to near area in WA state. I often try to find a new hair stylist close to home or my work place.) I am not new to this process (hair coloring) at all. Normally I go to Aveda salon in other area and they were able to dye my hair from original black hair with grey hairs to lighter color in one visit without highlights. I told Mindy that I wanted the root to match the color that I had before. She said that she could do that but the color came out very dark, almost black. I could dye the hair myself dark color easily at home. The price for this was 200 dollars. -- Mindy argued that she had to dye my hair dark color to cover grey hair. My regular hair dresser at Aveda was able to turn my hair into beautiful lighter color and cover grey hair beautifully. -- I will have to go to my regular Aveda salon soon to get highlights to correct the color. -- Mindy was very talkative. She got frustrated at me because she said I moved my head a lot so I was trying to relax and not talk a lot to avoid moving my head. I didn't want to upset her. She showed that she was frustrated. However, Mindy kept asking questions unrelated to hair such as "Do you have a boyfriend?" and etc while she was washing my hair. She accidentally spit on my face a few times. She expected me to keep answering her questions even during the time she was washing my hair after she was frustrated that I moved my head, the experience was so uncomfortable for me. When I relaxed and didn't respond to answer her questions quickly, she said loudly so other customers and staff can heat that I must be frustrated with her. It was the weirdest experience I ever had at a hair salon. In 20 years that I have been getting hair color at salon, this is the first time, a hair stylist doesn't let me relax. I overheard she asked a male customer next to me about his romantic relationship and she told him to propose even when he said he wasn't ready. I don't know-- I just felt so uncomfortable with all these unprofessional behaviors. -- Her dog was very cute in the salon but that was about it. I will NEVER go back. Mindy kept blaming me for weird things. For example, after the coloring process was done, I asked her for a solution to help remove the color on my skin, it was not a big deal for me. I saw she used that solution to help remove color on my face but missed some spots. I know the color will come off when I take a shower. But Mindy started blaming me and told me that hair color on my skin was one of the marks I had on my face before hair coloring process. I don't have any abnormal mark on my face prior to this. Mindy also blamed that the towel she put on my back and neck fell off because I moved. (The towel was very dirty from the beginning. I am not even sure if it had been used with others before me.) I had to use a restroom to urinate since she left the hair color on me longer that it was supposed to be because she accepted other male customers who walked in for hair cut and perm. -- Mindy then deflected and started blaming me for scheduling an appointment with her, she said that she was kind enough to let me schedule an appointment on the same day. Then she had to take other walk-in customers and kept the color chemical compound on my hair longer than it was supposed to be?! It doesn't make sense at all. She was blaming me for supporting her small business. This is why this will be the one and only time I will do business with this salon. When I called her, it seemed like she didn't have any customer so she asked me to come in right away on Tues around noon. Then when other customers showed up, she was trying to get as many customers as possible and left the hair color on me longer than normal. Then she deflected and said she had been doing this for a long time. She knew hair. She said if I experienced hair loss, she would pay 500 dollars. SAD-- I don't want 500 dollars. I just wanted to have my hair color in a normal peaceful way. If you care about cleanliness and want a professional setting in hair salon, this might not be a place that you enjoy. I have been going to salons since I was in my early 20's because I have grey hair since I was young. Now I am almost 40. I never had issue with moving and causing a towel to fall from my neck. It was so weird that the hair stylist blamed customer for a dirty towel.

I wasn't going to write a review at all but I saw a couple bad reviews so I decided to MAKE IT FAIR AND REPRESENT what this salon really stands for. To me, Quyenne isn't really a business person and she doesn't speak perfect English but she's all about giving her best. So, it is inevitable that miss-communication would happen. I have been going to her for a while and I'm satisfied every single times. Before All About Hair salon, I have had some bad hair straightening experiences. I had gotten my hair straightened a few times, paid a lot, and then after the first wash it was either straight in some places and not others or just went from frizzy curly to frizzy wavy. Now I have hassle free hair. It took me a while to find the right place, technique and technician. But now I have, and I'm never turning back. She's great with haircuts, coloring, straightening, and waxing. Thank you Quyenne for being so awesome! I would also recommend you to read the bad reviews as well. I've lived in Bellevue for almost 8 years. I could not find one hair dresser that she can make my hair done as I want to. I am very picky girl....lol..I went most every salons in this area. Finaly, I found Quyen at All About Hair salon. I found this salon searching on google. All About Hair is amazing place. I have now seen All About Hair twice for Japanese Hair Straightening and she is great. Her experience with hair straightening was quickly apparent.She made sure I was comfortable the whole way through. She was very friendly. I saw they have greate deal on Brazilian Blowout. My sister came over for Brazilian Blowout. Quyen did her hair. My sister finally got to wash her hair after 3 long days and the results were amazingg. It looked super heatlhy and smooth. I will try this very soon. I can't wait to feel my hair healthy and smooth as my sister hair. I have finally found a place that consistantly does a great job on my hair. Quyenne takes her time and does my hair how I like it, unlike other places that have styled my hair to their preferences no matter what I've said. I love the highlights and lowlights she puts in my hair, again, she listens to what I want. She never tries to sell me what I don't need such as full color instead of a partial foil. I have had both keratin treatments and brazilian blowouts and have been completely satisfied with both. My hair stays straight for months and I have long and very thick hair. I also like how she thins out and layers my hair without leaving lines. I went to Quyenne to fix a bad haircut with definite lines that I couldn't get my previous hairstylest to fix. I will continue to go to All About Hair to have Quyenne take care of my hair. It's a very relaxing no stress time for me and well worth the drvie to get there. read more

My experience was great!!! I got the Japanese hair straightening treatment. It took about 5 hours (I have fairly long hair, most times it wounldn't take as long). This was the first time I ever had anything done to my hair, other than a basic hair cut. Quyenne and Danny are amazing. Thhey both came in on Sunday (their day off) when the salon is closed so they could only focus on my hair. When I fist came in my hair was unmanageable, after the first treatment it was smooth and shiny. Since my hair is different than most Quyenne is having me come back in 3 days so she can be the first to wash my hair (no charge to me); she wants to see how it turns out. I would recommend All About Hair in Bellevue to everybody I know. They have real experience and know what they are doing. read more

I bought a groupon for a Brazilian Blowout at All About Hair. When I arrived I was greeted by a very friendly staff, who had a great humor about an understaffed day while their receptionist was delayed. I was advised upfront that my service would be an additional charge due to the length and thickness of my hair, but this was outlined on the offer I bought and I have extremely thick, long, and difficult hair. Quyenne did an amazing job and really took her time to give me a quality service that I am extremely satisfied with. You can tell that her quality of service is consistent due to the number of regulars that come in. I will definitely be making the 40 minute drive again- well worth it! read more

I went for Keratin hair treatment, I got the deal from Amazon. I had to pay extra due to length of my hair. But the staff was very nice. They did pressure me too much to buy their products but gave good advise. I felt not being rushed, It took 3 hours but it was a good experience. This is worth raising a red flag at least for the next unsuspecting Jane Doe. Particularly when you bring in an old photo **of yourself** with a haircut you liked well, but she insists would not work on your hair (?!) Not taking any time to consider how my hair fell and felt *when dry,* rather shooing me off to the hair-wash basin should have been the first red flag I wished I had heeded. Rushing a customer through is also noted by other reviewers here. Jayme should have taken the time to consider hair texture while dry, listen to concerns, offer a hair cut strategy and get concurrence from the customer. But, nope. While at the wash basin I tried to describe my unequal hair volume on both sides of the head (thanks to fall out). She may have been listening with half an ear. Very nonchalant, and seemed uninterested. Oops did I mention I did not pull up in a Porsche, Mercedes or BMW. Once in the chair she trimmed my underlayers to meet the crown layers so that the previous choppy mismatch was corrected...and yet I noted she didn't blend the ends in order for it to sit with a neat profile, it sat with a blunt edge. I know my hair curls when dry so it needs a shaping for the edge profile-- otherwise it is very severe. I showed her a photo of me, in a past haircut that I liked. I wanted the front to be shaped so it wasn't a severe straight curtain of the same length as the rest of my profile. She resisted cutting my front portion to shape a gentle frame around my face. It was impossible, she asserted, because my hair would spring up too high. How would she know? She barely look at it or touched it when dry!! The worst of it is that I spent well over $100 for a haircut that does not look symmetrical on either side of my face because...she didn't hear me about my thinner left side of the head. So the "fuller" right side is technically the same length as the left side, however, because more hair, it looks longer. Heed your gut and just avoid a hairstylist who doesn't seem really into you as customer.

This place has the best balance between quality, time, and price. Despite the generic sounding name (the only downside to be honest), this place is NOT a chain, and it is owned and operated by Sandy. It is recommended to call ahead, but there is usually not a wait. But keep in mind only 1 customer can be served at a time. The haircut is fantastic quality. Asian hair can be tricky for folks who aren't used to cutting it, but Sandy is super experienced and it definitely shows. I've had other good haircuts that have taken 45+ minutes, but Sandy can always do mine in half an hour flat. On the other hand if I go to a cheap chain, I can also get my hair done in that amount of time, but it would look bad. I would have to hide inside my house (I guess not an issue during the pandemic) for at least 3 days for it to grow out enough so that I don't look embarrassing. The price is a little bit higher than the generic haircut chains, but SO worth it. And it's still way cheaper than going to a fancy salon. Definitely recommend trying this place out.

5-Year Regular Customer Treated Like S--T by Owner "Ly" (Lee)…read more See my 5 Star Yelp review from June 2, 2023. Replace that with today's review from July 13, 2026 below. I have been getting my hair cut at Hair Excel for about 5 years. My nephew has been going here for about 20 years, so I decided to give it a try in 2023, since I live only two blocks away in downtown Mercer Island. I usually make an online appointment with the "next available" barber in the shop, because they are all very good, but today I had returned late in the day after running errands and decided to stop in for a quick haircut on my way home. I put my name on the sign-in roster, and sat down to wait. And wait. And wait. After waiting 30 minutes, watching a dozen men walk in after me and get promptly served by the 3 barbers working, I decided to leave. As a courtesy, I went to the desk to scratch my name off the sign-in roster. I found that my "completed" page of the roster had been tossed aside by Ly to the left of the register, with my name still open at the bottom of the sheet. He replaced my roster with the new "active" sign-in sheet which already had 4 names of men waiting, who were now ahead of me. Ly never called my name as he tossed my roster aside. He didn't recognize my name as a 4-year regular customer, so he didn't care who the last name on the list was. This demonstrates how little the owner of Hair Excel cares about his recurring source of income. I will never return to this shop due to Ly's condescending treatment.

While washing and conditioning, she gave me a very relaxing scalp massage. All of these above-and-beyond touches made me feel like a princess getting some much-needed self-care.
