I had a deeply upsetting and disappointing experience with this rabbit rescue organization, and I feel it's important to share--especially for other young, passionate animal lovers who are trying to do the right thing. A few years ago, I reached out to adopt a bunny through this rescue. I was incredibly dedicated, and I had the full support of my parents throughout the entire process. Unfortunately, the founder, Vivian, responded in an unnecessarily harsh and judgmental way. In her email, she told me I was too "young and irresponsible" and implied that I would treat the rabbit like a toy--which couldn't have been further from the truth. Rather than asking more about my preparation, support system, or experience, she dismissed me entirely based on my age. Instead of helping us adopt a bunny we were already excited about, she suggested my mom look for people who were moving and giving away their rabbits--which just felt like a way to push us off without a valid reason. I understand rescues want to ensure animals go to good homes, and that's incredibly important. But the way I was treated was condescending, rude, and discouraging, especially to a young person doing something compassionate and responsible. Her words had a huge effect on me, making me feel like I was not good enough to be a bunny owner. I attended one of the adoption events, and I was struck by how much care and attention they give to every rabbit in their care. They take the time to ensure each rescue is healthy, comfortable, and ready for a forever home. What really stood out to me was how seriously they took the bonding process when I was looking for a partner for my year old rescue, Milo. One day while volunteering, there was a new female bunny named Gracie that I hadn't met yet -- she had been rescued from a terrible, terrible situation. Once we knew Milo and Gracie were a potential match, the rescue provided me with everything I needed--litter box, carry case, and lots of advice for bonding. Volunteers were available by text and email whenever I had questions, making the process so much easier. Within less than a week (!!), Milo and Gracie, (now Roo) were inseparable. Bonding these two has been so beyond heartwarming and watching both bunnies get their second chance at life together, is just - the best. I'm so grateful to the rescue for their support and guidance. Early 2020, I was looking for a partner for my Netherland dwarf, Toffee, when I stumbled across All About Rabbits Rescue. I went to their website, read all the requirements and filled in an application. I had a chance to read reviews about this rescue prior to applying, however I didn't take them at face value until meeting the actual people behind it. And boy was I pleasantly surprised! From day 1, I dealt with Vivian, who was very professional, knowledgeable and eager to answer all my questions. She explained the adoption process point by point, and even taught me a lot of info I didn't know about rabbits, and how to properly keep them healthy and happy, while making my life easier (cleaning/ bunny proofing / setup suggestions, etc.). By the time the speed date came, I had 0 doubts about adding another bunny to our family. Her associate Wendy, the matchmaker, assisted the speed date as well, and made sure that Toffee got his perfect partner, lovely Maya, who caught my eye from the moment I saw her. It was a match made in heaven, and the 2 have been inseparable ever since. Both these wonderful ladies helped me through the bonding process, as well as post adoption, so it was as easy as it could possibly be. Overall, I am beyond thrilled I didn't listen to the reviews and I got a chance to meet the volunteers at AARR in person. I even occasionally help out with adoption events and rescues. I can wholeheartedly say all of their associates, not only care about the rabbits, but LOVE them, and go above and beyond to ensure they are taken off the streets or from abusing or hoarding situations, that the rabbits are healthy, happy, and go to homes where they will be treated like family members, not just pets. I would also like to address some of the previous reviews, based on my overall 3 year interaction with this rescue, since I'm not sure AARR does that. 1. AARR is OVERLOADED with bunnies, 90% of the time. Rabbits are not adopted fast enough as they get surrendered or taken in by the rescue. If you are looking to rehome/surrender your bunny, it will take a while before getting a positive answer. This is not a singular situation, ALL NYC rescues are close to capacity if not well above it. Regardless of your reasons to surrender your bunny, you need to understand the reality of rabbit rescue and not expect the impossible. 2. AARR encourages rabbit adoption, not breeding, and definitely not buying your rabbit. That is a conscious decision people need to take responsibility for, not blame rescues when they can't take their rabbits. Again, this is a reaction from most if not ALL rescues, rabbit or any other animal. 3. In an email or text, the tone can be very easily misconstrued. Face to face are even better than phone calls. With me everyone has been courteous and polite, and I have no negative experiences. Also remember everyone can have a bad day, and be kind and understanding. Note that this rescue has been in "business" for more than 10 years now, and dealing with certain types of people can be more than exhausting and draining. So whatever the tone you may perceive, it's NOT PERSONAL. 4. In order to fully and accurately assess a potential adopter, even foster, questions will need to be asked, some more personal than others. If it's something you truly don't want to disclose, just say it's too personal and move on. As an AARR adopter, I absolutely found the whole process non intrusive, and had I been asked more delicate questions, I would have truthfully answered as I have nothing to hide (I'm not saying or implying the people here did!). I understand the reason behind asking and I am fine with it. 5. This is a RABBIT rescue, not a customer service business. The animal welfare takes precedent to hurt feelings. And don't forget they are all humans, and they all have good days and bad days. So don't let one interaction ruin the chance of finding an ideal partner for your bunny, or simply changing the life of a rabbit in their care. Also please remember all AARR are VOLUNTEERS; they don't get paid, and they all assist in the rescue of these wonderful animals ON TOP of their regular 9 to 5 jobs. This means that sometimes stress levels can be pretty high. 6. AARR runs SOLELY on donations. Without their donors' help, the rescue wouldn't be able to take a single animal off the streets. So no matter how bad your experience with the rescue was, don't take away all the good that it does by asking other not to support it financially. They can ask for donations, but in the end, if you don't want to contribute, they will not force you! In conclusion, AARR is really not the devil as the other reviews make it out to be. Reading other reviews it seems like this rescue is kind of hit-or-miss. Some have great, five-star experiences and others, like me, have shitty one-star experiences (honestly I would give even less than that if I could). I guess it depends on whether or not you wind up speaking to a nice fosterer. The one I spoke to, Wendy Thompson, was super nice at first then did a complete 180 the minute I couldn't meet one of her ridiculously high standards. Look I get it if you say, "I'm sorry, but we can't adopt to someone unless they meet x,y,z standard" but condescension and rudeness is SO uncalled for. I know people have bad days, and that this is a non-profit charity and everyone involved is a volunteer, but was it really necessary to rub salt in my wounds regarding the death of my previous rabbits? She basically insinuated that I was a bad owner, and didn't take good enough care of them! Just let me down gently, you don't have to go into this whole spiel about how I basically let my pet die. I spent the entire day crying because of that email, feeling so guilty and terrible about myself. I lost my previous rabbit only a month ago, so it was already a sore subject and, as often happens after a pet dies, questioning whether I could've done more. And then, to rub salt in my wounds by basically calling me a neglectful pet owner and implying I let him die? I found a bunny abandoned in the park and was recommended by a colleague to try AARR for help. I recieved 0 help but just condescending questions and statements for trying to do the right thing in helping a bunny. I called Vivian out on it and told her she was rude and unhelpful. She told me my email was nasty because I don't know anything about her, but I think her attitude showed me enough. She also can't write in complete sentences and I thought I was texting with a teenager at one point. It was very unprofessional behavior. I was extremely disappointed by my experiences with this business. My partner and I are looking to find a partner for our current rabbit, and did everything they said to: did several interviews, got new carpets, brought our rabbit to meet ups so she could meet other rabbits and then she really got along with one! Great, I thought. They were condescending and rude through the process but you could tell they really cared about rabbits and I was willing to look past personality to heart - or so I thought. They decided to deny me any rabbits because they decided I didn't have enough space, despite previously housing two rabbits very happily. They kept insisting that rabbits in the wild get 4-5 football fields worth of space. Okay??? We live in NYC! Vivian, I can SEE rabbits in small cages behind you during our zoom they clearly don't have 4-5 football fields worth of space right now. I don't understand why, if they're complaining constantly about being overrun with rabbits, they're refusing to allow people to actually take them in. When I called asking for assistant with my rabbit I quote she said just dump him to the animals shelter. When I question her comment she said she sorry she should of never said that. Honestly wish i could have done business with them. But the amount of disrespect from the employee/owner (Vivian) i believe i mainly spoke with was very discriminating. I currently have a Lionhead bun. He's a dream. Sadly he did not come from this establishment. I was put down then blocked for answering their questions. Due to COVID exposure my spouse and i thought it best he stay with his relatives so he would not spread to myself and our young one. So i applied with only my details on the adoption application. My partner and i spoke about it and agreed we can handle a bunny. I have over 12+ yrs with rescue dogs, fish & lizards. But this would be my first bunny. ¡I currently have no pets in the house FYI! My father had just passed due to cancer. My son and i were not coping well. I decided to end my ongoing (3+ yr) decision on investigating rabbits to go ahead and adopt one. But dealing with this company made my depression worse. How i was spoken to. Then blocked?! I know the difference between dietary food and snacks. My bun lives on mainly greens. With a quarter cup of pellets twice a day. He's still young. Snacks range from carrots, watermelon, blueberries (his fav), etc. but snacks i leave to once a week. His doc cleared him as healthy and happy. He is much bigger now and does binkies non stop. I want to give this company a chance. Since i planned on 2 buns. i now realize it was Vivian who was responding to my emails while i was searching for a new home for my daughters rabbit and she was beyond rude, made me feel almost like a criminal because I was unaware that rabbits were not supposed to be sold in New York City pet shops! Told me I should do the "useful" thing and find out the name of the pet shop and it's not so much what she said it's how she said it and than blatantly told me that they can't help me right now they're too busy with their own problems! My mind was already blown but once I told her that she was coming off rude she responded and added "OK is this better?" I hope they're actually doing some good work out there because this was not the experience I was expecting to have! I contacted AARR after seeing their social media posts about needing new fosters. I love rabbits but I'm not able to commit longterm at the moment, so fostering seemed like the next best option. I spoke to Vivian, who I believe is their founder, and she was very understanding of my constraints. Together, we worked out what was best. Since October 2021, I've fostered 2 rabbits and both have found forever homes. It was hard to let them go but I'm actually still in touch with both adopters so I know the rabbits are doing well. The process was straightforward and I liked that there was constant communication with AARR. I'm hoping to get another foster soon! read more

But I think it should be run by someone who is more PERSONABLE and less RUDE, CONDESCENDING and UNPROFESSIONAL. Instead of belittling people maybe take a different approach. She literally doesn't even try to hide her attitude. And she has one for no reason. People call this company for help adopting or rehoming their bunnies and she clearly makes EVERYONE feel lesser no matter what. And then has the AUDACITY to not ASK, but TELL you to donate. Extremely bad taste in who to have as head of the company. She has zero social and customer service skills, no humanity or compassion for others and thinks she knows it all.
