My boyfriend and I fostered a puppy several months ago through a different rescue, and when she was adopted we were surprised at how heartbroken we were to say goodbye. A few weeks later we decided to start looking for our own pup to adopt. Our experience at MPR was incredibly positive -- the staff are highly communicative, kind, patient, and honest. They organized a meet up with our puppy's foster and answered all of our questions. They provided her medical records which were detailed and organized, and helped with our puppy's first vet visit. We would recommend adoption through MPR to anyone we meet, and are so grateful for our new baby Nova

Just an amazing organization. Incredibly organized, kind, and caring. I've been fostering with them for a year and just recently adopted one of my foster pups. Both experiences of fostering and adopting were amazing. Trust that every penny of any donation you give them is well spent.

As a first time dog owner, adopting can feel frustratingly like applying for a job. In order to get one, you have to have experience. But how do you get the experience if nobody will give you a chance?! Thankfully, Muddy Paws was fully understanding of my situation. As long as you're conscientious and ready to do your research, you won't be excluded. After submitting an application, I heard back fairly quick about scheduling a phone interview. The interview lasted about 30 minutes and she took good notes to make sure they knew what kind of dog would best suit me. Within a day, I received an email saying I was an approved adopter! Here's where the real challenge starts -- checking the website as often as possible so you can be the first to email about a pup. Shockingly, it only took me two-three weeks before I saw my guy. It was about noon on a workday and I happened to refresh the page and see a new doggo. They're constantly adding new pups so check back all day! I had previously emailed about five or six dogs, but was either too slow or was told the dog wasn't a good fit for my lifestyle. The adoption process for Marcel was great. We did a zoom with the foster and I got to ask as many questions as I wanted. Afterwards, I received his full medical history and a bunch of great info about how to prepare for his arrival. I couldn't be happier, and even though it's only been a week with my sweet boy I have muddy paws to thank!

I adopted my dog Archie from Muddy Paws earlier this year and I only have great things to say about them. The registration process was incredibly transparent and went quickly, and the process to move forward with adopting Archie was straightforward and informative. They had all his medical records and information ready to review, and provided me with a ton of resources post-adoption. The volunteers that I worked with were all very helpful and clearly have every dogs best interest at heart. The team and volunteers are passionate about dog rescue, and that really shows throughout the entire organization!

This rescue org is hands down the best in the city! After applying online to a few rescues and not heading back, I scheduled an appointment for an adoption event with Muddy Paws. The process was so seamless and thoughtful that I applied, got approved, fell in love with a dog and was able to take her home all within an hour. I couldn't recommend this rescue more.

    Such a regal pose

I had great experience adopting my dog Jackson through Muddy Paws Rescue. I first met Jackson at a Saturday adoption event and he definitely took a shine to me. I told several volunteers that I would be adopting him soon, but I didn't realize quite how soon. I wanted my husband and our previously adopted dog, Calamity, to meet Jackson before making a commitment, so we all went to another adoption event that Thursday for full family introductions. Jackson and Calamity started playing immediately and we knew they would be fast friends. The Muddy Paws volunteers walked us through all of the adoption paperwork and gave us some great recommendations on how to welcome Jackson into our home. In total, the whole process took less than week and we're so happy to have welcomed Jackson into our home and our lives.

    Rolling around

They have been very helpful and patience with us trying to pick the right dog for us and I couldn't be more happier to have found my little baby girl! I'm in love! I Never did an adoption before and the communication and me understanding the process was all there so thank you muddy paws rescue for giving me another best friend

NDLB is an incredible 501(c) (3) non-profit and their global mission of rescuing dogs and cats from immense suffering and complete abandonment, along with their exceptional care and concern for each survivor (no matter the gravity of each animal's injuries), is nothing short of outstanding. The dog we happened to adopt is a Japanese Akita Inu and happens to go by the name Romeo because he happened to be saved from slaughter on Valentine's Day (on February 14, 2020). The founder of NDLB , Jeff Beri, and his crew actually risked their lives twice to save our dog. Once (due to the strict Covid-19 Restrictions in China at that time and a second time to challenge the people who were about to slaughter him). I personally found all of the NDLB staff I interfaced with during the adoption process very personable and easy to connect with. More importantly, I found the staff demonstrated great care and concern for their animals throughout the adoption process. While waiting for Romeo's freedom flight to New York, we received multiple videos and photo's along with ongoing communication from the NDLB Chinese staff who were with him daily. The New York staff made sure I (along with my husband), understood all the possible challenges that came with adopting a dog from overseas and wanted to make sure we were up for this type of challenge. All I can say is Romeo has completely changed our family's life. Our family over the years has had three dogs. Romeo was our first overseas adoption, by far, he is the most considerate dog we have ever had the pleasure of owning, and is always looking out for our well-being. One last positive has been, over the past months, being able to maintain on going contact with Romeo's team in China, and being able to send photos and videos of him here having all sorts of fun in the USA. (See Romeo enjoying sunbathing below).

I remain profoundly grateful for this organization and for the people who do this extraordinarily difficult work. Oliver came to us with a complicated history. He is a senior rescue who had already experienced a failed adoption and had spent years learning that human hands were not always safe. KK9R did not minimize his history, rush the process, or try to make him sound easier than he was. They were honest with us about his needs and thoughtful about whether our home was the right one for him. Since his adoption, I have been reminded again and again why KK9R's process is as thorough as it is. Rescue is not simply about getting a dog out of a shelter and into a home. It is about doing everything possible to create a placement that can be permanent, and one in which the dog has a real chance to feel safe, be understood, and have a joyful life. Oliver has now had significant dental work and eyelid surgery, and we are slowly building a life around safety, trust, consent, and predictability. He is funny, stubborn, deeply sensitive, and increasingly joyful. Watching him discover toys, enrichment, comfortable places to sleep, and the simple pleasure of being understood has been one of the great privileges of my life. I am especially grateful to his fosters, his trainers, and the medical, adoption, and administrative teams and volunteers who cared for Oliver before he became ours and who trusted us with his next chapter. The work they do is expensive, complicated, emotionally demanding, and often invisible. If you are considering adopting from KK9R, my advice is simple: take the process seriously. Follow their guidance. Listen when they tell you who a dog is. Understand that the requirements exist because these dogs have already endured enough uncertainty. We did not need KK9R to make adoption easy. We needed them to help us make it permanent. Thank you for Bari. Thank you for Oliver. And thank you for trusting us with both of them.

Often times, you see organizations with adoptable animal pictures asking for application, after you submit lengthy application, often you don't hear from them, and animal is no longer available. And since application is needed for each specific animal, you have to go through the process all over again. KK9R is different; they ask for your application to vet you. You can apply for particular animal or general to get approved. They are very thorough about vetting applicants and very responsive. Then, after you get pre-approved, you can visit the animals. Which makes the process more streamlined and efficient. They do great work with local rescues as well as oversea rescues; particularly from south korea. The dogs are adorable and great quality. Some dogs are rescues from puppy mills, that sells to pet shops. They are also very honest about medical history of the dogs, and what to expect. After adoption, they also do follow ups.
