My fiancé and I recently adopted our puppy, Budgie (fka Prosecco), and couldn't be happier with our experience. After finding Budgie on Petfinder, I applied directly through See Spot Rescued's website. A few days later, I was contacted by a lovely volunteer, Raychel. The process moved quickly. We spoke that night, FaceTimed with Budgie and her foster parent the next day, and the day after that we were on our way to Budgie's foster, Dave, in Jersey City. Dave took such good care of her before we got her and spent lots of time with us before handing her off. Because of Raychel and Dave, the process was seamless and painless. We had been applying with many rescues but are so happy that our pup ended up coming though SSR. These days in NYC, post-Covid, the competition is fierce and this experience somehow made us forget that we had a bad taste in our mouth about it. Highly recommend!

Bodhi and Thor in their forever home. Thank you so much See Spot Rescued for bringing these two bundles of joy into our lives!

Super conveniently located off the ACE line too at Canal St. They provide all the materials and your preference and they help match you with a furry friend. They were advertising a specific pick up and drop off date for the animals for this program, but i wanted to participate for a bit longer so I called a few days before to see if they're able to accommodate. The staff who answered didn't know the answer so they took down my info and told me someone would call me back. Days passed and I didn't hear back so I had to make a trek down there to ask in-person so that was a bit inconvenient. I wanted some time to prep my home. Anyway when I let them know that I'm a beginner foster and would prefer a cat that is generally friendly with no behavior problems, they helped me match with an adorable adult cream kitty. I picked her up with no issues. They provided me with all the supplies (and more) that I'd need for my week-long foster commitment. They also provided a number that I could text with any concerns should any issues come up. My whole experience was very positive. I'm glad to see that they have now expanded their program with allowing folks to take a dog out for a walk. I've seen further Instagram posts posting about these excursion experiences, but I think you have to come early during the day as only a limited number of dogs are eligible candidates daily. I've done similar excursions at Sean Casey in Brooklyn (no appointment necessary) and ACC (booking required a few days in advance online) so I'm excited this opportunity exists here in a more centrally located place in Manhattan. The shelter also allows visitors to come and view and play with their cats. You just need to make sure you wash your hands before interacting with them. I love this but also hope this doesn't overwhelm the cats too much.

We wanted a playmate for our sweet 1 year old cat, and a friend recommended Best Friends. I came by and the staff were all so sweet and welcoming. They were super informative and encouraged me to play with the cats. During my first visit, I came across the cutest orange female (RARE!) kitten. I had dinner plans and couldn't bring her with me. I came back an hour or so later and she was in the process of getting adopted :,) happy for her but sad for me. It's ok! I just thought that maybe it wasn't meant to be. A week later, I came back to Best Friends with my boyfriend on a mission to adopt a cat. They had an additional room towards the back that housed kittens!!! There were so many to choose from. We chose Juni because she was very cuddly and had a little quirky mustache. The staff made the adoption process so quick and easy. They even provided us a care package with all the necessities (kitten litter, wet and dry food). I expressed my concerns about introducing Juni to our cat at home, and they provided a step by step guide. They even followed up 2 weeks later with our progress. The employees and volunteers here really love what they do.

Long story short I managed to drive after him and run out to grab him by his leash, the poor dogs paws were bleeding everywhere he was lost. I brought him to the Humane society since I was going there anyway, they helped us without thinking twice. Scanned him in hopes he was microchipped and he was !!! They contacted the owner and he was in an Uber immediately to the humane society. If that's not a story to show how they are here to help animals and the universe bringing me to them I don't know what is!!!! So thank you soo sooo much for this experience, it was my first time here and I feel so blessed and grateful for people like these to help in this crazy world we live in. I'm also happy the dog and his owner were reunited. You guys are amazing !!!!! Thank you ! He was super skittish at first and I could tell he had been through some ROUGH times by the coloring around his mouth and nose. We still got to spend some time together and I got a bunch of snuggles. Now we just keep coming back. This is a nonprofit, volunteer run cat rescue that also sets up adoptions. If I wasn't actually allergic to cats, I might've considered it. You can book half hour sessions to play with the cats, and you can get treats which make you the most popular people in the room. There are lots of really cool platforms and things mounted to the wall that the cats love to climb, and also cat toys that you can use to play with the cats. There are plenty of cats to play with, and a bunny, and mice, and turtles. We booked three sessions in a row and the staff was extremely nice and took us to the kitchen area in the back where they had some absolutely adorable kittens. Seriously, if I wasn't allergic and needed to pop an antihistamine before coming here, we probably would have already adopted a cat.

Humans are welcome, of course, but let's be honest--we're the main attraction. Over the years I've visited for several events, including an Italian Greyhound meetup and most recently the World Pup Cup. There's always something happening, whether it's movie screenings, comedy shows, trivia nights, breed meetups, adoption events, or seasonal celebrations. The atmosphere is welcoming and community-focused. It's the kind of place where you can strike up a conversation with another dog parent in line and leave with a new friend. They offer treats and food for dogs, drinks and snacks for humans, and regularly support small pet-focused businesses by hosting pop-ups and showcasing new dog-friendly products. It feels less like a café and more like a community hub for NYC dog lovers. One thing I especially appreciate is how many different dogs you get to meet during every visit. Whether you're social, shy, young, old, tiny, or enormous, there's usually a pup here who wants to say hello. If you're looking for one of the most dog-friendly destinations in New York City, Boris & Horton should absolutely be on your list. Dogba's verdict: Unlimited sniffing opportunities, plenty of fellow pups to meet, fun events year-round, and a rare place where dogs clearly run the show.
