Back on 2019 I had an irrigation system built by a landscape company in Portland. I recently…read moreneeded some work on it and called them but they indicated they no longer do work in Vancouver, but when I asked if there was anyone they would recommend, they said Simple Lawns. I had a problem with two leaks in the irrigation system. You could see water getting into the valve boxes when you turned on two of my zones. My suspicion was that the water pipes coming out from the valve to the irrigation tubing had broken when I had a contractor install a pumped sewer system last fall. The trench for the sewer pipe went across the water outlet pipes from the valve boxes. I called Simple Lawns to see if they could come work in fixing the leaks. They were able to schedule a visit by their irrigation expert within a few days. I paid a deposit which was for the service call to diagnose the problem and assess how much it would cost to fix. The employee came and looked it over and was able to fix it right away. He had it fixed within an hour or two. I was surprised it was possible to fix it so quickly, and he indicated the cost would probably be just the service call fee or a little more. The one slightly odd thing was I didn't get a email from the company to indicate the job was completed and that there were no additional charges. But the repairs were successful and they didn't send any additional bill, so I figured that was the situation. I was dreading trying to get those leaks fixed and I was amazed how quickly they fixed them and that it cost way less than I expected it would.

Communicating with AI is extremely unhelpful, frustrating and very off-putting. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HUMAN CONTACT. PERIOD. No one called me back when AI "Daniel" or whoever it is said it would have a human call me. Finally someone did call and say the tech would come on Monday 6-22, but did not give a time. It has been extremely frustrating trying to communicate with this company. HIRE ANOTHER SKILLED TECHNICIAN, People!!!! And hire another HUMAN to speak with potential customers. And let me TRAIN them in communication skills.

They were able to clean up, remove one of the arborvitae's in front and back, mow, and edge the lawn in record time. I hired Green Zone to dig a ~45' trench to a shed in my backyard at 2' deep for electrical conduit. He initially bid the job at one day and $810. I made the mistake of assuming he had a trencher and other equipment for this task. He showed up on day 1 with a gas auger for post holes, not a trencher. After a couple hours on day 1, he said the cost would actually be $1500 , nearly double the original cost because of some unexpected difficulty with rocks and other debris. He spent a ton of time trying to get the auger to start/restart throughout the day. Of course he wasn't able to finish that day, and said he'd come back with electric tools more appropriate for the job. On the second day, he came back with the same gas auger, though it seemed to be in somewhat better running order. About halfway through that day, he said he wouldn't be able to dig a straight trench because of debris. He eventually got someone to bring an electric saw he used to remove this debris, to his credit. At the end of the second day, he said he was going to come back with a mini excavator to finish the job. On the third day, he did come back with one, but it was extremely large for the space and resulted in a completely destroyed yard surface, a damaged structure in the yard, and concerns about the shed foundation.

First year Tom and company did my backyard, including designing and installing a waterfall that all of my neighbors would kill for! Lisa and her designer created something that matched the rough thoughts we had, but went several steps beyond, making it better than what I had imagined in several ways. We started with some tired, neglected landscaping containing a lot of (sick) grass, and some drainage issues, and from that they created a mini nature park in our backyard, including a river-rock-filled dry creek bed, a packed gravel walkway around it, built-in drip irrigation, lighting, as well as a plan for trees and shrubs that will invite birds, bees, butterfiles, etc. This plan was executed by a company she frequently partners with - Oregon Outdoor Living - and they were great to work with as well. The workers are highly skilled and diligent. We're looking forward to see how it grows out! Communication has been excellent all of the way through. Josh and Kyle were methodical in the process of supporting the porch, removing the old beams and installing the new ones. Since there were 6 beams, the process was done in two stages. The team demonstrated excellent skill in installing the metal anchors in concrete and then cutting the beams to fit perfectly in place. This was a very technical renovation and we couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism and skill of the construction crew. The renovation was also a very fair value. I highly recommend J's for your outdoor custom projects even if it isn't technically landscaping!
