2015 Corvette Stingray Z51, 3LT, w/ 40k miles…read more Truly awful service experience from Corvette Motorsports and Joe (the owner). DO NOT take your Corvette here! I picked up my car from Corvette Motorsports on May 1, 2020. Services I had performed included: Replace front brake pads and rotors, brake fluid exchange, replace coil #5 and spark plugs, transmission fluid exchange, and replace all 4 shocks. Price quoted was fair and Joe came off as knowledgeable via email initially. After picking up my car and beginning my drive back home to DC, I expressed via phone call to Joe that there was an extremely loud rattle coming from the rear left of the car during my drive home. There was also a large scratch on my leather dash that was not present before dropping my car off with Joe. I've attached the picture for reference. There were also boot scuff marks on the inside door panels. To this, Joe responded, "Mystery to me...All I did inside was drive the car..One hand on the wheel, the other on the shifter..Try some cleaner on it perhaps it's just a smudge of something." As far as the rattling, Joe expressed that he didn't know anything about it, but he'd be happy to take a look as he offers a "12 month/12k warranty" on all of his work. I knew during my drive home there was no way I could possibly bring the car back to Joe, warranty or no warranty. He had clearly proven himself an incompetent/incapable mechanic by handing me back a car that sounded like it was going to fall apart ($3,800 later), leather damage included in that price.. I needed to take my car to an actual CERTIFIED Corvette technician. Never making that mistake again... Once getting back to DC, I decided to drop the car off at Jack Winegardner Chevrolet that same day to get a second set of eyes on the work performed. I've attached their invoice for reference that details exactly what they found... "Customer states rattle coming from left rear while driving (Customer states struts and shocks replaced at another facility) Performed diagnosis, checked suspension, nothing loose. Removed left rear interior panel, found clips not secure, clips and retainers missing. Reinstalled clips, retainers, reinstalled panels, NOISE REMAINED. RECHECKED SUSPENSION. FOUND TOP BOLTS AT 35 FOOT POUNDS. SPECS ARE 74 FOOT POUNDS. RETORQUED REAR SUSPENSION. COMPLETED RETORQUE ON SUSPENSION AND RETEST. RESOLVED CUSTOMER CONCERN." Labor: $420. It turns out the shocks were not installed and torqued to specs (74 foot pounds) by Corvette Motorsports, thus causing the rattling! It took the dealership 4 hrs to pinpoint the cause of the rattle, but I'm glad they did! The service manager at Jack Winegardner Chevrolet recommended I forward the invoice to Corvette Motorsports and should be able to receive a $420 credit since they did not perform the services properly and to spec. Joe, of course, declined, and stated his "warranty" as the reason. Joe's "12 month warranty" and "fair" prices hold ZERO water when he doesn't actually know how to service your car to spec! He torqued my shocks down to only HALF the foot pounds they required! Maybe he is better with C6 and older corvettes? Certainly, don't even think about taking a C7 to Joe! This is not his field of expertise. On top of it all, the scratches in my leather dash and scuffs on the door show a general lack of attention to detail and carelessness. Again, prices appear fair, but TAKE YOUR CORVETTE ELSEWHERE! You truly get what you pay for here. Avoid the frustration, lost time, and future expenses of the incomplete work.

****Update 8/14/2023**** Since my initial review 5 years…read moreago, I have taken my 67 Mustang back to Pro-Speed many times. And each time they hit it out of the park! Their knowledge and professionalism are second to none. New work that they have done since my initial meeting with them: Wiring Harness 347 Stroker Crate Engine Wildwood Disks all around Edelbrock Pro-Flo EFI Each and every time, Pete and his guys explain in detail about each installation, what to expect, what to look out for etc. There are no "Assumption of Expectations". They lay it all out in front of you beforehand. My car went from a tired, old cruiser to a 100% street sleeper! Looking forward to the upgrades I have for her in the future--which I have already gone over with Pete. I trust my car to no other speed shop.

I really wanted to have a good experience with Universally Modified…read more I appreciate They are a family run and worked business of brothers and Ryan's wife. But they will not properly torque fasteners. There had been a metallic rattling since the first time I had them install the front sway bar. I drove it that way for six months or so. They always said the reason for the metallic rattling was because of the BMR components I had them install not having the rubber bushings. Then when me and another guy put my 2022 Mach 1 up on a lift and started looking it over and working on it we were disappointed to find Universally Modified destroyed my front sway bar end links due to not torquing down fasteners and using zero thread locker! I asked them multiple times to use the proper thread locker on all the fasteners. So after fixing the sway bar properly, the car is silent now! Um multiple times have not torque down or at least used a thread locker to keep fasteners from totally backing off. Universally Modified also did not tell me about an exhaust leak we found. I have put a lot of thought for weeks into thinking about/processing the information to make sure I am doing the right thing. They also couldn't get my wheel weights to stay on my wheels. But the plus for them is they did suggest a good place to go and have my Wheels properly Road force balanced. Each time something was not done right I tried to be calm and decent about it when I communicated with them. when I told Universally Modified about each issue, they did not apologize and didn't say what can I do to make it right, didn't say it would not happen in the future, nothing. I feel unsafe using Universally Modified due to them, causing my car to lose control on the street or on the track, and kill or enter others and myself! They will not answer or return my phone calls I tried calling multiple times to communicate with universally Modified in order to speak with them and get their side/viewpoint before I posted this.

So I decided to give UNIVERSALLY MODIFIED a chance to service my vehicle and other(s) moving forward if this experience works out. It wasn't long to find that this shop is extremely overrated and overpriced and THEY CAN'T PROVIDE WHAT WAS PROMISSED! My issue on my 1969 Mustang was the vibration and hesitation on acceleration, I was estimated by Troy initially for $4952.62 of recommended services! I was shocked to see them write this estimate, and to SUM it all up, they wanted to put bigger holly carbs, new starter, and tune up the car. Put in mind that it's a pristine 1969 Mustang Mach 1 which is up for sale for $90K, by no means this car needed anything like this kind of service, I explained how we replaced the Harmonic Balancer and that that didn't change vibration and I left the old Balancer in the car for them to see. After we agreed on the services above, I was promised this vibration and hesitation was going to be eliminated. Upon pick up, the Mustang Road like garbage! I immediately contact Troy explain my concerns, after paying him $3486.23. Troy responded by saying "owe yea we put the old Harmonic Balancer back in the car and vibration a lot less now? He also after my distressed concerns, he actually said that the car "might need a new engine because if that the vibration can be something internal" I was outraged to hear any of this after the FACT! "This was NOT told to me prior pick up or paying for this outrageous invoice. I expected him to warrant his repairs and to correct his mistakes. So I left the vehicle with Troy again for the second time on 5/11/2022 at UNIVERSALLY MODIFIED in Sterling, Troy sent me message afterwards to tell me - HIS WORDS! Hey Sean this is Troy, We actually found the issue. After inspecting the flex plate (trans removal wasn't required), we found that the flex plate and harmonic balancer were actually the 28oz imbalance. Since they were indeed matched, we proceeded with removing the oil pan to look at the crankshaft and discovered that the crankshaft was indeed internally balance and shouldn't have those parts on them. We were able to remove the counter balance on the flex plate and we swapped the balancer with an internally balanced unit and the vibration is gone!!! I also have more great news on the engine internals that are definitely going to boost the price/salability! It's a fully forged bottom end, Ford Performance SVO Block and Hydraulic Roller Cam. That's some big money in the Small block ford world. The engine is probably around 15-18k new" - HIS WORDS! Nothing ever mentioned at one time that he was planning on charging you another $1654.10 to replace the Harmonic Balance AGAIN! $1200 of that was labor! It's a external part on the outside of the engine where pulleys are located! This was the final insult for me, He charged $38 for another oil filter, $20-$30 of gaskets for FORD MUSTANG?? Seriously!?? I pay $12 for PORSCHE high end oil filters, how does FORD cost more?? My conclusion is that this shop LOVES to Surcharge ever nickel and dime that they can from there clients! COMPLETE SCAMMERS! Thank you for reading this you have been warned to STAY FAR AWAY FROM UNIVERSALLY MODIFIED in Sterling VA.

Niko worked with me to get my exhaust shipped out to their shop in VA and have a slot for my installation within a week. They worked 5hrs straight to get my exhaust on and once I heard my RC F sing, I couldn't believe it it was my car. Night and day difference. PTuning does quality work, that's why they will be installing my headers next month!

For example, they've diagnosed problems and risks before the local dealers have and didn't do any pressure sales. Just a heads up and watch item, with occasional suggestions about what to do, even including DIY options. More recently I had an adaptive headlight fail. Where the dealer would have wanted a full new OEM replacement at their labor rates, James and team took a lot of time and care to identify the root cause, isolated the issue, and found quality used parts to use and saved me thousands in the process. And they were giving almost daily updates on their progress and findings. Great group of folks. Sure, you can get some strong performance additions from the shop and no doubt they're great at it, but don't overlook them for fixes and other needs. You'd be selling you and your BMW short!
